Can't Register Quicktime

Question

I got a new Mac Mini last week. For some reason, Quicktime never showed up on the preference pane, therefore I cannot add the code I purchased to upgrade it to Pro.
I ended up going to another site, and it said a quick fix is to reinstall Quicktime. I downloaded quick time again, opened the package and it will not let me install it. It says I already had it. So I deleted Quicktime, and emptied the trash...tried to reinstall it and it still says I already have it so I cannot download another copy.
So I decided to reinstall it from he install disk from the optional installs folder. Each time I do that the download fails and tells me to contact the manufacturer.
So this poses 2 questions:
Question 1: How do I get Quicktime back?
Question 2: If I get it back and still can't find it in the preferences pane, how do I update it to Pro?

Okay ... okay how do I register it?
As I said, via the Registration command in QuickTime Player 7 (not the QuickTime Player in the Applications folder).
Wow...that's crazy. So if you don't have the disk...you are out of luck then.

The QuickTime application from the applications folder.
If you don't have the 10.6 install disk, you're hosed as far as QuickTime Player X is concerned. There is no download for QuickTime X, so you have to get it off the original 10.6 installation disk. If you don't have the 10.6 disk, there's no way to get back QuickTime X Player.
That's the first thing I tried...but nothing happened after I clicked on registration under the Quicktime menu. But then remembered that QuckTime preferences was accessible from the preference pane on my old Mac Mini...but not so on the new one.
Again, there is no QuickTime preferences pane in 10.6.
If the Registration menu command doesn't work in QuickTime Player 7, make sure you're entering in both the user name and key code exactly as in the email Apple sent you. Any error in either, including leaving off a salutation (for instance, if the email says "Mr. John Smith") will cause the registration to error. Once you enter in the user name and key code, press the Return key. If your user name and code are correct, that should do it.
This of course presumes that your key was for QuickTime 7, not an earlier version, and for Mac rather than for Windows (QT keys are not cross-platform).
