Can't Reinstall 10.6.3 DVD in my Macbook6,1 with 10.6.8

Good Day Apple Community!
I can't reinstall my Mac OS 10.6.3 DVD on my Macbook6,1 late 2009 model with 10.6.8 on it... the install always says "Mac OS X Snow Leopard can't be installed on this computer.".
Please help me... reformat my macbook.
Please teach me how to properly install it.
Thank you.

Do a backup, preferable 2 separate ones on 2 drives. Boot off the DVD. From the Utilities menu, run Disk Utility Verify/Repair and Repair Permissions until you get no errors.  Reformat the drive using Disk Utility/Erase Mac OS Extended (Journaled), then click the Option button and select GUID. Then re-install the OS.
When you reboot, use Setup Assistant to restore your data. Then update your software using Software Update. The combo update will save some time.

  • Satellite L300-19U - How can I reinstall Vista without working DVD drive?

    Hello
I have a big problem with my notebook Toshiba Satellite L300-19U.
I did installed 1month ago Windows XP on it and now is my DVD-ROM broken, it didn't read DVD just CD's. So I can't use my Vista recovery DVD to reinstall Vista. Did anyone had the same problem?
I heard there is a partition (hiden) where the recovery is on it. How I can find this partition? And if I find her, can I boot directly from the partition to recover Vista? If no,is there a other chance to recover it?
Please help me to reinstall the Vista recovery partition!

    Hi!
The hidden partition that you mean is a Windows Vista feature but you cant restore Vista with this partition. The point is that the partition is also deleted because you have installed Windows XP on it.
Restoring Vista without recovery disk is only possible if Vista is still installed on it. Then you can go in the advanced boot menu and select repair my computer. Then you can choose the Toshiba HDD recovery option. This is a feature that restores Vista from the second partition.
But as I said only possible with installed Vista.
Just one question: Why do you dont go to an authorized service provider? If your notebook is still under warranty you should get a new CD/DVD drive for free. Normally it should only take few days and then you are able to install Vista again! :)

  • Can't reinstall CS3.  "All Components Fail to Install"

I had been running CS3 on Windows Vista 32. First received, out of the blue, the dreaded error that licensing had stopped working.  Was not able to rectify by the long list of ususual means.  Finally was instructed by adobe tech support to uninstall CS3 and reinstall.  Uninstall apparently successful (confirmed with Microsoft Fixit Tool that did find and fix some registry errors).  Can't reinstall CS3 either from DVD or from desktop.  Receive status report after install script finishes:  "All Components Failed to Install."  I have spent over 23 hours on this problem to no avail.  PLEASE HELP!

Thanks for the reply, but I did all that already.  After much research and seeing what's worked for others, below is a rundown of what I've already tried...  (much of my process below came from http://na-na-sa-ra.blogspot.com/2008/06/how-to-re-install-adobe-cs3-after.html which I too had found and had hoped would help.)
After attempting to uninstall CS3 from the control panel, I ran the Adobe CS3-5 cleaner, numerous times selecting various listed options during the script run.  After running each time, I ran the MS Fixit tool (http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_and_Uninstall) that reportedly will "fix problems with programs that can't be installed or uninstalled".   After each run of the MS Fixit tool, I attempted to reinstall CS3 - the install script would run for a good long while, showing (slow) progression of a status bar, but in the end give a status report saying that all components failed to install.  Even though complete installation failed, Adobe CS3 would be on the list of programs in the control panel, so I would repeat an "uninstall" from the the control panel, and rerun the MS Fixit tool.  Sometimes the MS Fixit tool would find/correct problems, othertimes it would report that no problems were found.  I repeated this procedure for all the options given in the CS Cleaner Tool script without success.  Thinking it might be a problem with attempting to install from the DVD (which has never been a problem before), it was suggested to try installation from the desktop (copied all DVD files to a desktop folder).  Repeated the entire above process using the "desktop files" instead of the DVD.  No luck.  (...and phoning Adobe tech support was not productive - they sent me here to the forums.)
Really appreciate you trying to help.  Have any other suggestions?

  • How can i reinstall cd/dvd drive - Satellite P100 PSPAD

    Hi
I have Satellite P100 (PSPAD), and my cd/dvd drive (I dont know how or when) suddenly disappeard, it does not appear in my computer or device manager,
I tried this but coul not find the lowerfilters so i delite the upperfilter and restart the computer but that did not work.
So can I reinstall it somehow and how do i do it?
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
Caution There can be many instances of the registry subkey that is mentioned in step 2.
You must make sure that you are in the appropriate registry subkey before modifying the UpperFilters and the LowerFilters values.
To verify that you are in the appropriate registry subkey, make sure that the Default data value is DVD/CD-ROM and the Class data value is CDROM.
    3. In the right pane, right-click UpperFilters, and then click Delete.
    4. Click Yes to confirm the removal of the UpperFilters registry entry.
    5. In the right pane, right-click LowerFilters, and then click Delete.
    6. Click Yes to confirm the removal of the LowerFilters registry entry.
    7. Exit Registry Editor, and then restart the computer.

    Hi guys
    Just one question;
Are you able to boot from the bootable disk like Toshiba recovery disk, Windows XP CD, Vista DVD or Linux live CD???
If yes, then you should try to reinstall the OS.
If not then this would mean that the CD/DVD drive malfunctions.
    *@BlackJack_1*
You said the CD/DVD drive has been recognized by BIOS.
Do you see the whole CD/DVD drive title/name or you can see just the CD/DVD drive option.
You should also test if you can boot from one of the mentioned disk and to ensure that this is not a hardware issue!

  • How many times can I reinstall CS4 if I inactivate it?

    Hello
How many times can I reinstall CS4 if I inactivate it before I make a new installation on the same computer?
    Regards
    Mikael

    Mikael,
Not really, because it made me go to slipstreamed installations that proved even better. It takes some time to make a slipstream, but in the end it proves even better IMO. When Win7 comes out, one of my first steps will be to make a slipstreamed version and post a guide here on how to make one tuned to your needs. This is a very old screenshot, way outdated, but it shows what a slipstream installation can do for you:
Just insert the DVD and have some coffee. When you have finished your coffee and the PC has finished it's installation, you are ready to roll/edit. All tweaks will have been performed, logon scripts executed, etcetera.

  • I want to reinstall OS on my 2012 MacBook Pro. It shipped iwth 10.8, but now runs 10.9. Can I reinstall to 10.9, I do I have to reinstall 10.8 and upgrade again to 10.9?

I want to reinstall OS on my 2012 MacBook Pro. It shipped with 10.8, but now runs 10.9. Can I reinstall straight to 10.9, or do I have to reinstall 10.8 and upgrade again to 10.9?

Best to install 10.9 straight up. If you still have your OS 10.9 downloaded file you can use that, or you can go to the app store and download it again. It will be in your previous purchase history. Or you could even upgrade to 10.10. If you want to start from scratch you will need to boot from USB or DVD and initialise (erase) your internal HD. To do create a bootable USB thumb drive with OS 10.9 or 10.10 follow this guide
Create a bootable installer for OS X Mavericks or Yosemite - Apple Support
And heres a how to on installing a fresh copy of Yosemite (OS X 10.10)

  • I want to replace HD with SSD... how can i make an OS installer DVD?

I've got an SSD drive on the way, should be here in a few days.
But the mac mini didn't come with any OS media - is there an easy way to burn myself one so I can use it to do a clean install on the new drive? I do have an external  (USB) DVD writer that works fine with the mac mini... (I used it to install win7 bootcamp).
As you probably can guess i'm a total mac NOOB, the machine is set to boot into win7 by default and I havent really had time to even poke around in the Mac OS ( its my wife's machine, actually).  We bought it because we wanted to have a SILENT machine that didnt take up a lot of space. I have to say it does the job amazingly well ( runs win7 very fast). One of these days we're gonna try out the mac OS...

You will have to retain the HDD because you need it to prep the SSD.
    Drive Preparation
    1. Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
Next, you want to install Lion on the SSD:
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Reinstall Lion:
Select Reinstall Lion and click on the Install button. When the installer prompts for the target disk click on the Show More Disks link and select the SSD as the target drive. The whole process takes a while because the Lion installer takes while to download.

  • Can't install from application install dvd and i can't update to 10.6.8 after i restore my macbook pro from mountain lion

can't install from application install dvd and i can't update to 10.6.8 after i restore my macbook pro from mountain lion. when restart and i press command it still has recovery mountain lion show on my screen.

What model is the MBP? Did it come with OS 10.6 or a later OS? Is the install DVD one that came with it or something else?
You can't run an OS older than Mac on it.
But if came with 10.6 installed & you have the system discs, you should be able to erase the drive & reinstall the original OS.

  • Uninstalled MediaSmart TV, Now I can't reinstall it, Please help

Hello, I have a HP HDX X18T-1100 CTO. My TV audio was out of sync, so I did an update for the TV. Then error messages for the TV kept coming up, so I decided to uninstall the MediaSmart TV from the control panel and reinstall it using the HP drivers. The HP driver sp37430 failed to install saying that I have a new version on the system. I've also tried sp42505, sp43648, sp43595, sp43747, and sp4877, and some other sp files to no avail. I'm using Vista Home Premium 32 Bit. Please help me reinstall the MediaSmart TV. By the way, the other MediaSmart applications are working including the MediaSmart DVD, Music, Video, and Photos. It is just my TV that is gone.  Thank you in advance for your help.
If I can't reinstall the MediaSmart TV. What other programs can I use to use my TV Tuner. The TV Tuner shows up in my control panel.  Thanks

First of all, this forum is not very helpful. It doesn't look like there are any HP technicians assigned to support the forums.
Anyway, I was able to fix my problem by myself. The MediaSmart system is not as straightforward as other typical programs.
Here was the solution that worked for me. I did a system restore and was able to get the TV feature to return to the MediaSmart program. However, it was still not working, although the option was back. Then I ran sp42505 and it fixed the the TV. It also seemed to have fixed the audio sync problem.
sp42505 was not even offered in the software files available for my notebook. The update that was available from HP for my notebook was what caused the problem in the first place. Actually, it was the problem with the audio sync that got me to screw around with everything. Then the update caused the resident program failure issue. Thanks HP for providing faulty software and then offering updates to make it even worse. And finally, not provide any guidance to fix the problem.
    KUDOS to me.

  • 10.6.6 update - can't boot, installation OS from DVD fails

    hi all,
I have updated to 10.6.6 yesterday and since then I can't boot my MBPro. It freezes at the initial grey screen with Apple logo and "loading" wheel spinning (initially an installation progress bar appears, but vanishes after a while).
I tried reinstalling Snow Leopard from DVD, but it fails "The content of this disk can't be changed. Mac OS X couldn't be installed on this disk." I tried verifying / repairing the hard drive using the Disk Utility, but here I also get an error: "Disk utility can't repair this disk..disk, and restore you backed-up files".
I ran the Disk Utility verification of my HD about a week ago, all worked OK then.
Any ideas how I can get to my hard drive?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Was Boot Camp or File Vault ever used?
    Do you have a backup?

  • WIndows 7 reinstall without original installaton DVD

    Hello,
I bought a year ago Thinkpad SL510 which came with preinstalled Windows and Poduct Key but NO recovery media.
Now I want to reinstall it, so I have to make my own recovery disk (I have the Win 7 Professional 64 bit ).
I have a partition on my harddisk called "Rescue and Recovery". I tried to burn a recovery cd, followed the instructions through and at the end I had 3 DVDs. The first one with a file in .WIN form, size about 200 MB, the other 2 DVD about 4 GB each, with files in .SWM format, first one has the files from Nr. 1 to 10, the second has the files from Nr, 10 to 17.  I assume these are  maybe the Windows installation files, but how am I supposed to reinstall my Windows with 2 SEPARATE disks?
Can someone plese tell me a simple way to burn a Win 7 recovery disk so I can reinstall it on my own? How do I burn a utilities recovery disk, do I need one? How do I install all the lenovo typical tools (inclding the Thinkvantage tool) and all other utilities after I reinstall Windows? Would appreciate any help!
Also, I heard some people accidentally wiped away their "Rescue and Recovery" partition when they tried to reinstall Windows.  I don't want to lose this partition, how can I prevent this from happening?  Thank you in advance!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Those disks aren't just to reinstall Windows, they will reset the computer to factory settings, including Windows, drivers, Lenovo tools, etc.  Once you have those recovery disks that you made, you don't really need the recovery partition anymore (I deleted mine) but it's probably better to keep it, don't delete it unless you have a good reason to.  To use the disks, you use one to boot from (one should be called boot media or something), and I believe it will ask for the other two disks as they are needed.
If you just want Windows by itself you can download it from anywhere and install with the key that came with your laptop, just make sure you download the correct version (eg. Windows 7 64 bit Home Premium, or whatever).  After that, you could get all the drivers and Lenovo tools from the Lenovo website, and essentially have the same thing as if you use the recovery partition or recovery disks, but using the recovery disks is probably easier than doing it yourself.

  • Erased mac book pro (2009), how can i reinstall osx?  it won't recognize any old system disc

erased mac book pro (2009), how can i reinstall osx?  it won't recognize old system discs

    Did you try:
Install or Reinstall Mavericks or Mountain Lion from Scratch
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
OS X Mavericks- Erase and reinstall OS X
OS X Mountain Lion- Erase and reinstall OS X
OS X Lion- Erase and reinstall Mac OS X
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.
If you don't have the original discs that came with the computer, then you can install the retail version of Snow Leopard:
You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mavericks if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s iCloud services; fees and
               terms apply.
