Can't reinstall Acrobat from CS4

Hi
Here are my symptoms--for some reason Adobe PDF 9.0 wouldn't work. So I figured that the best thing to first try is uninstalling Acrobat Pro 9 and reinstalling it. I used the uninstaller to uninstall, then ran the installer from CS4 Design Standard. The installer hangs at "Preparing to Install..."
I looked at http://forums.adobe.com/message/2196993#2196993, in which Bob Levine refers to http://forums.adobe.com/thread/467529?tstart=30. But I can't figure out which solution he is referring to:
* The (uncited) reference that "According to the Adobe KB, the blank installer alert dialog is a result of having Safari 4 installed."
* The suggestion to quit Safari (not applicable to me)
* The suggestion to Safe Boot
I'm off to Safe Boot and reinstall (why did I think I was going to get some work done today, rather than f-ing around with the Adobe Installer?). If that doesn't work, I guess I'll go call Mumbai.
Bob, if you are reading this, and you have some more clues to leave us about the installer hanging, we would love them
A
PS--If it matters, I installed CS4 last week, and then installed OS 10.6, and now Adobe PDF 9.0 isn't working (perhaps related, not sure).

Well, I went through the process of deactivating, uninstalling CS4, running the cleanup script , and then reinstalling from scratch. At least I now have Acrobat running again, but I still can't print from Adobe PDF 9.0. Sigh. I'll go over to another forum and see if I can find any clues.

    Hi,
Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.
Open Console in Applications>Utilities & see if there are any clues or repeating messages when trying to open CS2.

  • Reinstall Acrobrat Pro X. Can't reinstall Acrobat Pro X after computer crash

I am trying to reinstall Acrobat Pro X after a compter crash. I enter the correct serial number but then get asked to select a prior product, in my case Acrobat Pro 9, and enter the serial number (this is the number that appears in my account), but there is nowhere to enter the serial number. And if I try to reinstall Pro 9 it won't let me. Do I have to deinstall Pro X first, or what? ALl input welcomed, thanks. Shanter

Thanks Bill, that seems to have done the trick. I am now successfully
    reinstalling Pro X.

  • Reinstall Acrobat from CS5

I just upgraded to CS5 Premium. It came with a separate install disk for Acrobat 9 Pro. I already have Acrobat 9 Pro installed from CS4 (9.3.3). Is there anything different about this new one that came with CS5? Do I need to reinstall it from this CS5 disk? According to the instructions I must uninstall previous versions of Acrobat before installing the one that came with CS5 and if I do not have to do so, I'd rather not. TIA

Thanks so much for your quick response.

  • Need to reinstall Acrobat from CS6

We purchased CS6 back in December from a local retailer. Acrobat X Pro was a part of it. Our new iMac doesn't have an optical drive, so we had to download CS6 from Adobe and enter our product code, etc.
The other day, Acrobat started acting bizarrely (kept asking me to agree to the terms of use repeatedly), so I uninstalled it (not the whole CS6, just the Acrobat portion of it). Now I would like to install Acrobat again but I don't know how. Do I have to redownload the entire CS6? It takes all day long. Is there a way I can download only the Acrobat X Pro that came with CS6 and enter my serial number?

In order to install Acrobat X you need to launch Setup(.exe or .dmg) file for Adobe design Std/Premium and there you will get check box for acrobat x you just need to select the check box for acrobat x only that will install acrobat from you.
If you don't have a download for CS6 you can download it from Download CS6 products.

  • Can't reinstall Acrobat in Adobe CC

Acrobat XI Pro was crashing repeatedly on start up. Eventually would not open - uninstalled it.
Now when I go into Application Manager, I can not reinstall it, it says that Acrobat is 'up to date'... but the application is not even on my Mac any more (OS X 10.6.8).
Also, I can't get the CC Desktop App to even install - it won't get past Adobe App Manager, that opens up and installation seems to falter.

I have now managed to get rid of all traces of old Acrobat install (had to run the uninstall again), but teh issue with CC manager is still not fixed.
The Adobe Creative Cloud Desktop app will NOT install. I download it, launch the installer, it initializes ... then it simply opens up the existing/old AAM and stops. I get no install, no CC icon in teh menu bar, no CC in preference panel.
The above link you sent is no use because it assumes I have the Adobe Creative Cloud Desktop app already.
Please advise how can I get this installed so I can accurately run the entire suite of software I am paying for?

  • Reinstall acrobat from creative cloud

how do i reinstall acrobat when the app manager says it's up to date

thanks. as it turns out, when i uninstalled using the uninstaller in mac utilities (rather than the one in the app folder) the download started automatically from the app manager. so i did not have to use the cleaner tool afterall. problem fixed.

  • Can't reinstall Acrobat X via CreativeCloudClient

    Hello,
    I have a monthly subscription to CS6.
I recently uninstalled Acrobat X Pro with the unistaller because it looked like I did not have the full version - the Tools menu wasn't present for example.
I thought something may have gone wrong with the initial install, hence uninstalling it with a view to reinstalling it.
However, when I go to my AdobeCreativeCloudClient it states that Acrobat X is already installed - even though I have uninstalled it and there are no relating files to it.
    So, I have 2 questions:
    1. How do I reinstall Acrobat X?
    2. Why did I have what looked like an uncomplete version, with no Tools menu etc?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Graham

    Hello,
    Thanks for the reply.
Unfortunately, I have already used the unistaller, which unistalled the software and deleted appropriate files. But my AdobeCreativeCloudClient still states that Acrobat X is already installed.
Considering I'm paying Adobe for my subscription, I want to re-install Acrobat X but it's not letting me.
Does anyone know how I can get in touch with Adobe perhaps?
    Graham

  • Reinstall Adobe Acrobat from CS4

    Hello.
This is the first time posting about this issue.
For a few months Acrobat 9 Pro has not allowed updates and after reading what causes this, the best idea is probably to reinstall.
However, I was wondering what the best way to go about reinstalling actually is, since it came to be on my computer from the CS4 discs.
Is it possible to reinstall just one program from out of everything on the CS discs?
Any help with this would be really appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Ben.

Acrobat 9 Pro will appear as a different product in Control Panel. You can remove it from there.
Yes, you can install only one software using the CS disc.

  • Upgrade version acrobat from cs4 design premium

Please, we have the product cs4 Design Premium and need upgrade to last version Adobe Acrobat XI, it is possible?

    132998045 wrote:
Thanks, but we only need upgrade the last version Acrobat, it is possible?
Not from Design Premium CS4, no.
As Mylenium says, you can only upgrade a suite to another suite. You cannot upgrade the individual components of a suite (in your case just Acrobat).
    Your options:
Upgrade your Design Premium CS4 to any CS6 Suite before 31 Dec 2012.
After that you will lose all upgrade options due to Adobe's new "one version back" upgrade policy which takes full effect from 1 Jan 2013.
