Can't reinstall Aperture

For no obvious reason Aperture (version 2 - can't yet afford the upgrade) stopped working and whenever opened displays the spinning beachball. So I trashed it and reinstalled from disc along with downloaded updates, three times. No luck - I still get the spinning beachball when it's opened. Does anyone know how to do a completely clean reinstall? Trashing it seems not to have been enough as the reinstallations must still be corrupt.

When you said you trashed Aperture, did you also Empty the Trash?
Not sure how you are starting Aperture but have you tried by dragging your Aperture Library onto the Aperture application icon? That might help.
If "Yes" to the above and still no go, then you may have a problem with Disk Permissions on your boot drive (likely named Macintosh HD). You can run Disk Utility to Verify Disk Permissions and Verify Disk to see if all is well. Some of the so-called error messages are normal and can be ignored. If you need to actually Repair Disk or Repair Disk Permissions, that function may need to be run a few times to fix everything. If you are doing repairs on your internal hard disk, you must first boot from your Install DVD and when the install panel opens, go up to the menu bar and select Utilities -> Disk Utility.

  • Can't access Aperture 3 previews in iLife Media Browser

I know this has been posted before but I don't think I've seen a resolution yet ....
Since migrating all of my data etc from my MacBook to new iMac I can't see the Aperture previews in the Media Browser. I've tried reinstalling Aperture and previews are set to be shared with iLife (in Preferences).
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance.

Thanks for this - it didn't work, but something else did!!
Turns out there's actually a Knowledge Base answer on a similar matter (discovered after calling Apple Support). Just open Aperture from the dock whilst holding Option + CMD and then select to Repair the library - middle option. Worked straight away!
    Thank you

  • ITunes can't see Aperture Library - iMovie can't see most videos in Aperture Library

    Issues:
Nearly all of my videos in the Aperture/iPhoto library do not show up when I select iPhoto library option in iMovie and iMovie is unable to locate them in any other way.
iTunes does not recognize my Aperture library, and I get the following message:
"Your Aperture Library could not be found. Open the preferences window in Aperture and enable the preference to share previews with other applications."
After reading through forums and multiple Genius Bar appointments here is most of what I have done:
Created multiple new Aperture libraries, selected them in Aperture, rebooted, switched back and forth - Note:  iTunes DID recognize the new blank libraries
Booted Aperture with the Command + Option keys and run all three options to repair permssions and even rebuilt the database
Booted Aperture with the Option key and selectedthe library I was using all along (this worked for someone in a forum)
Opened iPhoto (not Aperture) and selected an option to share photos
Run "Verify Disk Permissions" many times under Disk Utility
Run "Repair Disk Permissions" many times under Disk Utility
    Reinstalled OSX
    Reinstalled Aperture
    Reinstalled iTunes
Run a virus and malware scan (no issues)
Verified that Aperture was set to share previews and had a Genius go through all of my options to ensure they were correct in iTunes, Aperture, and iPhoto
Have ran "Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs" from the Command + Option + R recovery partition multiple times.  Each time it just hangs for hours, the latest attempt ran for over 24 hours before I finally stopped it.
Oh yes, and I found and deleted the file com.apple.iApps.plist
None of these things fixed either of my issues.  According the the Genius at my last appointment, now I have to call Apple Care and pay to get support.  I must have misunderstood what the Genius Bar was about when I bought my Mac and why I purchased the One to One training.  Before I call Apple Care, I was hoping someone might have run across this and can help me.
I asked the Genius if I now need to just create a new Aperture Library and move all of my content to it (that was the last resort for someone in a forum); however, he was concerned that even if this might work that I probably have deeper permission and/or other issues that need to be addressed and that doing so would not fix the root cause.
Thanks for taking the time to read through this issue.

It was suggested that I post this in the Aperture forum, so I did.  I didn't know that you couldn't delete or edit your own posts on this site.  I apologize for the duplicate post and this can be deleted if an admin is so inclined.

  • Reinstalling aperture 3.4 (on OS 10.8) from DVD version 3.0

Having issues reinstalling Aperture onto Mac with OS 10.8. Aperture running absolutely fine til yesterday when got message saying "error with library." Trashed aperture, then reinstalled. Now getting message that says: "the library in X cannot be loaded because it is from a newer version of Aperture.
What is the best way around this? I have DVD install disc, version 3.0
I saw something about needing to install trial version and then upgrade to 3.4 and THEN try to open application. But apparently apple no longer offers trial verison.
    Any help very appreciated!
    Thanks.

I would first make a backup copy of your library. Then there are a number of things you could try:
    1. Start Aperture 3.4  holding down the option key and create a new test library. There will be nothing in it. Then try to import your photos from the questionnable library. This might work. If it does, then continue using the test library. You can eventually rename it.
    2. Do you have an up to date copy of iPhoto around? If so, try opening the questionnable library with it. The program libraries are now cross compatible. If iphoto opens it you may be able to save or export it as an iphoto library and then import the pictures back into Aperture. My aperture sometimes hangs on opening the library, but iPhoto will open it.
    3. Trash Aperture and all associated plists. Reinstall 3.0 then update to 3.4 and try again.
    4. Repair your disk and permissions, try again.
    5. Reinstall Mountain Lion over itself and do software updates. Try again.
    6. If none of this works and you've already repaired your library it may be damaged. You may be able to recover your photos by "showing package contents" in finder and drilling down until you find them, but this is normally not recommended.

  • Can't open Aperture 3.2.4 after upgrade from 10.6.8 to 10.9

I just upgraded from Snow Leopard to Mavericks and everything looks fine, except for the fact that I can't open Aperture anymore. The dock icon is crossed out and when I click on it, I get the message "You can't open the application "Aperture" because it is not supported on this type of Mac.
I am running Aperture 3.2.4 which was the latest supported version under Snow Leopard 10.6.8. I was under the impression that I could upgrade to the latest version of Aperture under the new operating system....
--> What does that mean? My Mac was able to upgrade to the latest operating system but the applications are not??
Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks!

    I tested this:
Reinstalled Aperture 3.1 from the Trial Installer.
In some way it seems to be working. But the whole thing is a scary Chimera.
It can create an Aperture library. I can import and edit images, even in Graphic Converter ias an external editor.
But the Media Browser does not show the aperture Library that I created.
The versioning is inconsistent. The library appears as an Aperture 3.4 library in the Finder.  Aperture 3.5 seems to be able to read this library and to upgrade it to 3.5
The Applications folder is showing the application as version 3.4 and as compatible. Spotlight is showing it as illegal.
When opening the chimera Aperture, I see plenty of warnings in the Console window:
    An Aperture "Hang" report
    xpcproxy assertion failed
com.apple.IconServiceAgent: main failed to composite image
    quicklookd: Warning
and more ... the hang was critical. I had to force quit Aperture more than once.
So be careful. I would not trust any important Aperture library to this patched application, without testing thoroughly. Be careful with your  precious photos.

  • Can't load Aperture from my purchase list

    Hi,
tried to download the last update of Aperture 3.6 from the App Store.
I see it in my list and can klick "update" - but nothing will happen :-/
    Any help here?
    Thanx & Regards
    Ralle

Unfortunately Apple has removed Apeture from the App Store due to the release of Photos for OS X.
THis may be the cause of why you can't reinstall it. Additionally, in osx 10.10.3 support for apeture may now be unsupported
I am not 100% positive of this though.

  • Problems reinstalling Aperture

I first installed Aperture 2.1.1 (dvd) on a Macbook Pro running os x 10.5.8.
I then purchased the dvd to upgrade to Aperture 3 and I recently downloaded the update 3.1.2  (no more updates available for os x 10.5).
I just installed os x 10.6 (sorry for delay) and updated it to 10.6.8, and here is the problem: Aperture doesn't open anymore.
I tried to disinstall Aperture following these steps (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3805):
" On Mac OS X v10.6. Snow Leopard:
    Open the Applications folder.
Drag the Aperture application to the Trash.
Open the Utilities folder within the Applications folder.
    Open the Terminal application.
On the command line, type the below command (which is case-sensitive) and then press Return: sudo pkgutil --forget com.apple.pkg.Aperture
When prompted, enter your user password and press Return.
Insert your Aperture disc and install Aperture.
When finished, choose Software Update from the Apple () menu to update your software to the latest version.
For further information on settings or installation, please refer to the Aperture documentation available on your installation discs. "
but, after typing " sudo pkgutil --forget com.apple.pkg.Aperture ", and putting the password, I get the following error:
    Unknown error Error Domain=NSCocoaErrorDomain Code=4 UserInfo=0x10025f3d0 "“com.apple.pkg.Aperture.bom” couldn’t be removed.".
    Forgot package 'com.apple.pkg.Aperture' on '/'.
Does anyone know what I should do? Can I go on reinstalling Aperture 2 and then upgrade to 3 using the dvd I have or may I have some problems in the future?
    Really appreciate any help.
    Ric

After upgrading to os x 10.6.8, I opened Aperture (version 3.1.2) and got a message saying Aperture and the os x were not compatible.
Ric, did this message contain something like "certificate expired"? The older installers on the installation media sometimes are not accepted by the newer MacOS versions - security issues. If this happens again, change the date in the System Preferences, so MacOS thinks it is still before February 2012, then the installer should work.
But great that you could solve your issue, and now have a working Aperture 3 installation!

how to reinstall aperture 3.3 lost when reinstalling loin

If you purchased Aperture from the Mac App Store, just RE-DOWNLOAD it, from the Mac App Store. The re-download should be FREE.
Mac App Store: Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
If I have already downloaded an app from the Mac App Store, can I redownload it for free?
Yes. You can redownload apps from the Mac App Store as long as the app remains available. You may be asked to enter the Apple ID and password you initially used to download the app.

  • Reinstall Aperture 3 to be legal

I was using Aperture 2 illegally, I didn't pay for it. I purchased Aperture 3, installed it and moved 27,000 photos easily. After I was done I realized I was not asked to enter the serial number. I am thinking my Aperture 2 was upgrade with the borrowed serial number. I want to use the serial number I purchased so Aperture 3 is properly registered. Can I delete Aperture 3, keep the updated library and reinstall Aperture 3? Is the library a standalone database that will work with the newly installed Aperture 3? Thanks for your thoughts.

  • Reinstalling Aperture without paying again

    Hi,
I purchased Aperture back in 2010 upgrading from the trial version. My HD died and I didn't back up the old installer. Now I'm having to reinstall Aperture, but it seems it only exists in the App Store and I'm only presented with the option to buy it again.
    Any advise?
    Thank,
    Nic

I was using Mavericks and the current latest version of Aperture
The latest version of Aperture is 3.5.1 and is only available from the MAc App Store.
When users upgrade to Mavericks there were able to switch their Aperture license to the MAS and download 3.5
So if you were running Mavericks and the latest version of Aperture you should be able to download it again from the MAS. Just make sure you log in to the MAS with the same Apple ID you used when you upgraded to Mavericks.
If you were not running 3.5 then you will need to wait and see if Apple can help you.

  • Why I can not open aperture 3.4?

After update first mountain lion 10.8.2 and after aperture 3.4, I can not open aperture app. Can someone help?
    Thanks!!!

What exactly is happening? If Aperture is crashing, when you are trying to launch it, deinstall Aperture by removing it from the Applications folder to the Trash. Then reinstall it from your original installation media (if you bought a retail version) or by downloading from the App Store, if you bought it there.

  • I can't get Aperture 3.4.3 to setup Flickr

    Hi All,
Any ideas why I can't get Aperture 3.4.3 to setup and authorise against my Flickr account? When I press the Setup button, it opens the browser, logs me into my Flickr home page and then does nothing else. I have tried three different browsers; cleared cookies; cleared cache. I've even checked my Keychain based on information from other questions of the same nature.
I've even tried reinstalling Aperture, but no luck. I've tried this from Lightroom 4 and it works with no problem at all.
I'd be grateful if anyone could suggest something else to try
Incidentally, it authorises against Facebook again with no problem. It's just Flickr that's the problem.
    Thanks

    To your other question:
not even sure where the photo library exists on my hard drive...or is it proprietary to the Aperture?
By default the Aperture library will be created in your "Pictures" folder. It will show an icon like a  "Fan of Pictures".
You need to update Aperture version 3.6, to be able to run Aperture with Yosemite. When you call Apple Support, they will ask for a proof of purchase for Aperture to be able to send a redeem code. This document describes, what counts as a proof of purchase:  Pro Application Replacement Serial Numbers

  • How do I reinstall Aperture with only serial number?

I had to have a new hard drive installed and due to software corruption on my old drive I had to erase any software.  My photo library was in Aperture and I can not access any of my images.  I upgraded from a free trial and only have a serial number for version 3.2.4.  How do I reinstall Aperture without having to repurchase the download?  Thank you for any advice!

Try if this download link for the trial version still works: if yes, you can install Aperture 3 from this link, then unlock it with your serial number:
    http://appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite.net/content.info.apple.com/Aperture/061-8328 .20101020.AprE3/ApertureTrial3.1.dmg
Then use software update to upgrade to 3.3.
Keep a copy of the Trial installer, just in case you ever need to reinstall.
    Regards
    Léonie
