Safari won't install on my my 13" Macbook Pro HD running Mac OS X (10.6). I keep getting message stating this update requires Mac OS X 5.8 or higher. Please help.
Thanks.

Install it from the Mac OS X 10.6 DVD, using Pacifist if needed.

  • How do I get my macmini running Mountain Lion to see my Canon USB printer connected to my Airport Extreme? I have a macbook pro running leopard and that works fine. The versions of airport utility are different and I can't even see the printer from new 1

I am having trouble seeing my usb printer from my second gen airport extreme using the newest version of airport utility under Mountain Lion. UGH! And while I can see and network to my Canon IP5000 from my macbook pro running leopard, I can't from my new macmini running Mountain Lion. Any help would be appreciated in configuring my macmini so it can see the Canon IP5000 on the airport extreme. Don't want to "share" the printer from the laptop because that would be a cludge. Thanks ahead

I solved this one based on another post. Turned out I needed the snow leopard IP5000 driver. I had just copied over the leopard driver (I had saved my .dmg file) and installed that but it didn't work. So I downloaded the latest driver which turned out to be for snow leopard and I am guessing since it is 64bit that is why it worked and the leopard driver didn't. Anyway, I also had to hook the printer up via usb to the mac mini to get it to work locally before the O/S would see it over Bonjour via the airport extreme.

Can't connect external projector to MacBook Pro running Windows7. Any suggestions?

Did you try a cable? The point is you did not provide any information about: what projector, how you are trying to connect, what happens when you try, error messages if any, does an external monitor work, what computer you have, what OS, etc.

  • Hi, I have macbook Pro, running Leopard OS X. I partitioned my hard drive a while ago to install windows and only allowed myself 10 Gig of data. Anyway, i deleted windows and want another OSX on there instead. How do i make this partition bigger please??

Hi, I have macbook Pro, running Leopard OS X. I partitioned my hard drive a while ago to install windows and only allowed myself 10 Gig of data. I deleted windows after i realised i wasnt enjoying using it at all and wasted my hard drive. I now decided that i want another OSX on there instead yet i have only allowed myself 10 gb on the partition. I have ben thru some programms but am struggling on making this partition bigger.
I only want it at 20gb but cant seem to make the partition bigger, only smaller or split it into further partition.
Is there a way to do this, i have all installation discs from original OSX so think this could help.
Any help please would be fantastic.
    Thanks Chris

Hi, dragging the partition will only make smaller, not larger. In disk utility you can only split or make smaller the partitions. Yes i booted from installation disks also but still no help.
And Brody, I am willing to erase the disc completely, infact jus started doing a backup in order to do so but that failed also. And the information you gave on partition a hard drive, Although very simple and i already know how to do this, but it wont let me make the partition bigger, and i dont want to make a new partition, just enlarge the one i already have, which i dont see possible from disk utility.
Getting really frustrated now, even backing up is saying no to me. **** external being a douche.
I dont mind erasing the hard drive but surely this must be doable without deleting the secondary partition back t a single volume, and re partitioning into 2 volumes again.
    Thanks again

  • Pleeease help! cant boot macbook pro running leopard!

i am having a huge problem with my macbook pro running leopard. i was originally trying to partition my hardrive for windows with boot camp but that failed cause it "couldnt move files" so i ran disk utility with the installation disk to fix the harddrive.
anyways next thing i know i boot my computer and it stops at the blue login screen before it has the option to login with the spinning wheel and does a loop of blue screens with spinning wheel. wont boot in safe mode and it always stops at the same screen. so i looked around on the web and it sounded like a had to archive and install. so i did that and then half an hour in it told me i had a corrupt file and i had to restart.
so i restarted and then it brought me straight to the leopard installation screen and told me that "mac osx cannot be upgraded to v10.5 on your computer" because "macosx 10.4 or later could not be found"!!! i used the disk util to repair the hard drive but it said everything was fine. i cant safe boot, it wont give me the option to archive and install again its only giving me the option to erase my whole harddrive!
pleeease help! i have not backed up in 2 months! is there anyway to get this to start up or back up some files from this point?

Hello and Welcome to Apple Discussions ...
Ok... if you have another Mac, you can do Firewire Target Disk Mode
    To transfer files using FireWire:
Shut down the computer to be used as a disk. Leave the other computer on.
Connect the two computers with a FireWire cable.
Start up the computer to be used as a disk, then open System Preferences, click Startup Disk, and click Target Disk Mode. (Or, start it up while holding down the T key.)
A disk icon appears on the desktop of the other computer.
Transfer files by dragging them to and from the disk.
Eject the disk by dragging its icon to the Trash. (While you drag, the Trash icon changes to an Eject icon.)
On the computer you used as a disk, push the power button to shut it down, and then disconnect the FireWire cable.

  • MacBook Pro running Leopard has suddenly thinks audio CDs are blank.  Also not recognized in Itunes.

MacBook Pro running Leopard has suddenly thinks audio CDs are blank.  Also not recognized in Itunes.  What should I do to determine whether it's a hardware or software problem? Or is there something unusual about these CDs?

I have the exact same issue.DVD's work perfectly, but audio cd's have stopped working.  I think it's pretty recent, but can't confirm it because i don't use audio cd's daily. So I think it might be software related instead of hardware related. I Have a Macbook pro 15" mid 2009 running the latest OSX release.

  • Safari 6 makes macbook pro run hot.

Hello, this is my first post in this forum.
I've noticed that often Safari makes macbook pro run hot. The fans speed up even though I don't have that many applications open and only a few Safari tabs open.
The only way to slow down the fan is to quit safari and open it. Did anyone else also notice this?
Also I have noticed that Safari doesn't display texts (especially in facebook chat) properly.

Try trashing the Safari cache more often ...
From the Safari menu bar click Safari > Reset Safari
Select   Clear History  (also empties the cache)
Deselect the remaining boxes then click Reset.
Quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If that doesn't help, check Safari > Preferences > Extensions
If there are any installed, turn that OFF, quit and relaunch Safari to test again.
Emptying the cache and deleting history may also help the Facebook text issue.

  • Managing an iriver H300 mp3 player on a MacBook Pro running Leopard)

    I have an iRiver H300 MP3 player.
I want to manage it from my MacBook Pro (running OS X 10.5.2). I am not using iTunes for this, so maybe this is the wrong place to post this (apologies if that is the case).
I have a bunch of .MP3 files I want to copy to the H300. When I plug the H300 into my MBP it shows up as a drive (formatted FAT32) and I can copy folders with MP3's to it. Also, I can delete files. So far so good.
PROBLEM: I cannot reclaim the garbage space (empty the trash) and the MP3's I drag over include a bunch of files that start with "._xxxx" that are empty. Then when I try to play the new songs they won't play because they first try to play all of the empty files.
For now, I can fix the problem because I have an old WinXP machine around that allowed me to locate and get rid of the extra files, but I would prefer not to have to use it every time I want to add or replace music on my iRiver player.
How can I see all of the files on the H300? And, manage it like any other hard drive so I can copy stuff to it and also erase stuff from it?
    Thanks for any suggestions.
    yours,
    Bill

If the MBP came with Lion, it most likely won't boot with SL. Easiest thing to do is create a bootable backup/clone of each to an ext HD, partitioned to hold each on a separate volume, ensure that the original machines can boot with their respective clones, and finally, try booting the other machine with the other clone. Images are useless since you can't boot with them to test them out.

  • How can I reinstall Pages on my MacBook Pro? I only have the "open" option in the App store

After installing Yosemite, Pages would not open on my MacBook Pro anymore, so I uninstalled it, with the idea of reinstalling it, but now I cannot. The App store under "Purchases" only gives me the option to open Pages.  How can I install it?
    Thanks

    What version of Pages?
What version of Pages did you have before you installed Yosemite?
    How did you uninstall it?
If the App Store shows Open that means you probably have Pages 5.5.3 installed in Applications.

  • Can't Reinstall 10.6 on MacBook Pro with Original Disc!

Ok, so I bought a new MacBook Pro and am giving my old one to a friend; it's a late-2009 MB Pro 13" with the original grey discs.  I upgraded the hard drive with a new one, as well as deauthorized it from my Apple account (I had to do this to register my new one...not sure why).  After I correctly formatted the new hard drive in Disc Utilities, I noticed that it says "OS X Utilities."  In the menu options, I see Reinstall OS X, and this obviously wants to install OS X Yosemite.  If I do click continue, it gets an error and says try running the application again.  I'm assuming this is happening since I deauthorized the computer, but I could be wrong.  Also, where it says "Choose Startup Disk," there is nothing to select.
I also tried to simply install from the grey disc by holding Command+C, but it doesn't do anything yet sounds like it's reading the disc, and then a gray folder with a question mark begins flashing.  I'm honestly not sure what's going on, so maybe someone has a suggestion?
    Thanks!

I just reset both and when I restarted, I connected to my wifi and then got a globe with an exclamation point within a triangle, with the text "apple.com/suppot" and beneath that "-1006F" ha

  • Can I transfer data between a MacBook Pro running Snow Leopard and a MacBook Pro running Mountain Lion via thunderbolt to thunderbolt?

I was hoping to easily transfer data from one MacBook Pro to another. Would this workout ok?

    Yes.

  • HT1338 My MacBook Pro (running Leopard 10.5.8) won't allow keyboard to type an upper case 'C' using the shift key...works fine with caps lock, or, with my Typinator workaround using double-typed lower case c (not always best). Any ideas?

My MacBook Pro keyboard won't type an upper case 'C' using the shift key... only with caps lock. Workaround has been to use Typinator by typing a double lower case c, not always the best solution. Mac is a refurbished model, which initially was fine. Apple tech helped me correct the quirk when it first appeared, but now it has returned and refuses fixes. Any ideas?

I'm willing to bet that this has something to do with iCloud.  I've been facing a frozen computer nearly every time I go into it.
In Activity Monitor I have seen two programs associate with iCloud that take up about 2.5 GB of memory (I only have 4 in the computer) -- causing everything to freeze.  One of these is called "iCloud Helper" and the other one is something like "Address Book Sync helper" -- I see parts of these names in the stuff you have posted.
I am at my wits' end with these and have written to Apple asking them to do away with these or fix them.  To get rid of the Address book sync thing I have gone into system preferences for iCloud and unchecked Contacts -- but then spontaneously it gets rechecked.  And oftentimes after I Force Quit the iCloud helper, it spontaneously turns on again.  My conclusion --- the iCloud is basically unusable.  It turns a Mac into the most useless, clogged, sluggish PC.  If this is happening to a lot of people's computers -- and I see no reason why yours or mine should be an exception -- these programs just might destroy Apple itself.
So -- I'm about to completely give up on iCloud, and I suspect that others will too unless this gets fixed.
    Cheers,
    Bob
