Can't reinstall system

Hi,
can't reinstall system (10.4 ). i have trouble reinstalling my printer driver. instalation starts but then just stops about half way. apple and canon both recommanded system reinstall but i only get as far as choosing the language option for the install. none of the commands then works. i also can't erase my harddrive with the startup disc utility. any ideas?

Have you run Repair Disk?
Steps for using Disk Utility:
1. Insert your Mac OS X CD-ROM disc or Restore DVD disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key until you see the spinning gear..
2. Once started up from CD or DVD, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu.
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from disc to access Disk Utility.
3. Click the First Aid tab.
4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
5. Select your Mac OS X volume, if necessary.
6. Click Repair.
If you repair errors run it until no errors found.

Ibook G4 not accepting disks, can't reinstall system software

Hi, I have an early 2004 ibook G4. Last week, my computer had a repeating kernel panic, probably due to a new application overwriting hard drive data. I tried using disk utility and disk warrior to repair the damage, as well as numerous other things, such as zapping the pram and nvram and resetting the PMU, and it did not fix the drive. So I used disk rescue II to successfully get everything on my hard drive onto a backup firewire drive. I then erased the drive with disk utility using target disk mode from my new mac mini (intel)
I want to try reinstalling the system software from the install disks that came with my ibook. My ibook is now rejecting any disks that I put in the dvd/cd rom drive, even when I start it with the C key, and when I start with the option key and try putting the install disk one in, it spits it out. I tried using target disk mode, but when I put the installation disk for the ibook into my mac mini, I cannot start up the install disk program.
Is there anything else I can try without putting in a new hard drive?

I didn't see that you were using 10.3.9, so you may want to look at Knowledge Base Document #106464 on Your Mac won't start up in Mac OS X (Mac OS X 10.3.9 or earlier) and Knowledge Base Document #58042 on A flashing question mark appears when you start your Mac if you haven't already. You may want to try reseting the PMU (Knowledge Base Document #14449, which covers Resetting Powerbook and iBook Power Management Unit (PMU)).

Can't reinstall system.......there was an error please try again... mesaage

I am having a problem installing and re-installing system soft (Tiger) on a macbook pro 2.2ghz I bought in november. I purchased filemaker pro 9 and tried to install that on my other macbook pro 2.4 GHz Leopard,but that failed , called support and was instructed to re-install system , so I tried installing filemaker on the tiger machine first and how that would go, same problem keep getting message on both machines that there are missing files or damaged files and to re-install, but now when I try to re-install tiger from the original disks on the tiger machine I get the following message there was an error installing, try installing again....i tried this 4 times and now I have a dead machine MBP 2.2ghz (no operating software on it)???any ideas what to do here???

Boot from the Leopard DVD (I assume you are installing Leopard since you've posted in the Leopard forum.) After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. After the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the left side list then click on the Partition tab. Select one partition from the drop down Partition menu, set the format type to Mac OS X Extended (Journaled) from the Format drop down menu. Click on the Options button and be sure the partition map is set to GUID (GPT) then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button. After the partitioning has been completed quit DU and return to the installer. Proceed with installing OS X.
If you choose to install Tiger follow the same procedure as above except boot from the OS X Installer Disc One that came with the computer (assuming that is Tiger.)

HELP ! I think I will go mental ! Can't reinstall system software ----

First: I tried to start the old drive (2.66 Hz single Intel core) machine with the original OS X disks that came with it (OS X v 10.3.7). The original install DVD wouldn’t boot holding the “C” key.
Plan B: I wiped out my old MacPro hard by linking my new Quad Core running OS X 10.5.8 fire wire and running 7 pass delete via "Target Mode" to the old machine.
I unlinked the fire wire and restarted the old machine with the original DVD (OS X v 10.3.7) - I hold "C" key - no luck – the DVD spins up and then I get the “fold/? icon. I tried "command, shift, delete, C" - no luck either. The fire wire is disconnected and I have tried unplugging the machine, I zapped the pram several times – no luck.
Plan B - I have wiped the drive again with the new computers "Disk Utility" (OS X v 10.5.8). (I know that you can't install the OS X v 10.3.7 from the new Mac to the Old one).
However I still can't get the old machine to boot on the original DVD (OS X v 10.3.7) no matter what I try. I just keep getting that stupid "folder?" icon on my the monitor.
If I re-link the New machine to the Old the drive comes up on the New machines desktop.
I'm stumped, on how to reload the original DVD on this old machine (OS X v 10.3.7) - I want to ebay it soon and this is a real pain!
Anyone know what I need to do?

Installation Process
• With computer shut down insert install disk in optical drive.
• Hit Power button and immediately after chime hold down the "C" key.
• Select language
• Open Installer and begin installation.
• Select installation option
• Choose to Customize and deselect Foreign Language Translations and Additional Printer drivers.
Optional: Check box to install X11 (Tiger and later) BSD Subsystems (Panther & earlier).
• Proceed with installation.
• After installation computer will restart for setup.
• After setup, reboot computer.
• Go to Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility.
• Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in left side bar.
• Select First Aid in main panel.
• Click Repair Disk Permissions.
• Connect to Internet.
• Download and install Mac OS X 10.5.6 Combo Update (Leopard) or
Mac OS X 10.4.11 Combo update (PPC) (Tiger) or
10.3.9 Combo Update (Panther)
Computer will restart.
• Repair Disk Permissions as previously.
• Go to Apple Menu > Software Update.
• Install all updates.
Computer may restart after updates.
• Go to Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility.
• Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in left side bar.
• Select First Aid in main panel.
• Click Repair Disk Permissions.

IMac doesn't let me reinstall system

i have the same problem with using disk utility. press disk repair but nothing happens. have to forcequit to get out of disk utility.
i did the single user with the fsck command and volume is fine!
but still can't reinstall

If you're having this much trouble, there may be a problem with hardware somewhere. Is EVERYTHING unplugged from the computer except the mouse and keyboard? I might even try using a different mouse and keyboard. The worst problems I ever saw with a computer was when an airport card went bad. There were all kinds of nasty errors and problems... we thought it was a bad hard drive or a bad logic board, but once we pulled out the airport card, everything worked perfectly. If you can remove the card, try it. Also, if you've installed any extra memory, try removing that.

The net is that the initial support for Oracle VM Manager with Oracle VM Server for SPARC only supports NFS for repository (and virtual disks). A later release will permit virtual disks from FC SAN, iSCSI, and local disk as well as NFS. The linked not provides more information and a link to beta code. regards, Jeff

Install or Reinstall Mavericks or Mountain Lion from Scratch
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
OS X Mavericks- Erase and reinstall OS X
OS X Mountain Lion- Erase and reinstall OS X
OS X Lion- Erase and reinstall Mac OS X
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
            because it is three times faster than wireless.

Adobe Reader and Adobe Acrobat are two different programs. The first id free, the second isn't. If you buy the non-CC cversion of Acrobat, you can have it installed in two computers provided you don't use it both copies at the same time. Also, you can uninstall and reinstall it as you please, provided that you properly unistall it from one computer before installing it on another. I am not clear what the situation is with the CC version.

Yes the original Install Discs can be replaced for a nominal fee. Call AppleCare, you will need a credit card and the serial number of the machine. You can use the AppleCare Contact Info for the phone number on your part of the planet.

Can't reinstall photoshop after system restore

After I installed lightroom 5 and photoshop cc I had to do a system restore. The CC application shows both are installed but photoshop CC is not anymore and I can't reinstall it because the app show it already is. How do I reset the CC app so I can do a clean install of Photoshop CC?

Can't reinstall Tiger after doing System Restore

My G5 went into meltdown mode today--everything froze while my mom was using Firefox, and the crash forced me to run the System Restore DVD. Now I'm back to 10.2.7, which means not much will work...but for some reason, I can't reinstall Tiger! Early on in the re-upgrading attempt, I get "There were errors installing the software", and I'm forced to quit. Is something wrong with my copy of the Install DVD? Could it be damaged? I've been using 10.4.5 since last week, along with Security Update 2006-002 v1.1, and things were just fine until today.

Though this may sound amateurish, I have everything backed up to a series of DVD-RWs using Retrospect 6.1 . My family has never used the computer so much or stored so much on it that we have ever needed to backup to an external hard drive, though that would have been more prudent.
As for the main system, other than the model listing below, it's set up like this:
Main HD: Single HFS+ partition, stock configuration, 160GB, Journaling enabled
RAM: 512MB stock
Added internal peripheral: Pioneer DVR-110D SuperDrive (replaces stock DVR-106)
External peripherals: Kensington USB keyboard and mouse, HP DeskJet 842C printer, Motorola SURFboard SB5100 cable modem, Cambridge Soundworks PC Works speaker/subwoofer set,
was using Epson Perfection 1260 PHOTO scanner until recently, APC Back-UPS RS 800 battery backup, Belkin powered USB hub (attached to keyboard), SmartDisk diskette drive, USB cable for Palm PDA
Major non-Apple system utilities: Symantec Norton Antivirus 10, Allume StuffIt Deluxe 10, Tech Tool Pro 4, DiskWarrior 3.0.3 (not installed, on bootable CD only), EMC Insignia Retrospect 6.1.204
Hope that's not too extraneous.
I'm aware I'll have to reinstall the utilities if I manage to get back into Tiger. I'm waiting for a Retrospect 6.1 Disaster Recovery CD to arrive before I proceed with the reformat, since the only copy I have now is from a download.

Can't reinstall IPhoto and IMovie after reinstallation of the operative system.

I made and reinstallation of the entire operative system of my Mac. But now having the MAc oS X Lion 10.7.5 I can't reinstall some apps as IPhoto and IMovie. They said I need the 10.9 version.
How am I proceed?

Download Mavericks from the Mac App Store, or install those applications from a DVD; iLife 11 DVDs are available from sources such as Amazon and eBay, and if your computer's incapable of running Mavericks, it'll have come with disks which can be used to install them.
