Can't reinstall XP with Bootcamp 4.0.1
I'm trying to reinstall Windows XP with Service Pack 3 on an '08 MacBook with OSX 10.7.2 and Bootcamp version 4.0.1. My MacBook doesn't recognize that the Windows install disc in in the drive. The disc and drive are both otherwise just fine. Any thoughts?

Lion doesn't support any other Windows installation than Windows 7. http://support.apple.com/kb/SP629 You have to install Windows XP with Boot Camp 3.0 in Snow Leopard before you upgrade to Lion.
Boot Camp
supports existing Boot Camp installations with Windows XP Service Pack 2, Windows Vista, or Windows 7. New Boot Camp installations require Windows 7 (sold separately).

I do not mean the entire ITunes folder but, rather, the contents of the ITunes folder prior to September 29th. (90% of the media is missing, along with all playlists) The media that remains says it was added on 9/29 although I know most of it was added many months or even years earlier. There are no playlists listed at all, before or after 9/29. (I know for certain that I added non-iTunes purchased songs on 10/6 although I had not created playlists for them)
I have my iTunes folder backed up on both an external drive as well as Time Machine.
I run iTunes off of an ITunes folder on my computer rather than from the external, if that's what you mean about how I have it set up.
Is it OK to drag the entire iTunes folder from the external drive onto my laptop's drive and see if that fixes it?

I created a partition and installed Windows through bootcamp. But I need to increase my partition size due to me needing more space on the windows side. Can I do this with bootcamp, and how do I do it?

Can't partition HD with Bootcamp Assistant on brand new iMac
I just got a 27" 1TB brand new iMac three days ago. After copying over all my files from my previous computer (PC), installing some software packages and configured the Mac the way I want it, yesterday I wanted to partition 80GB out of remaining 330GB with bootcamp assistant to install Windows 7. After one hour it stopped with an error message that it wasn't able to move some files and I would need to re-format the HD and start again.
Is there really no other way? It took me two days to get to where I am.It should only take less than a minute.
So just use OS X software to clone what you have to another hard drive, then do an erase and restore.
And backup before starting is at the top of the list of things to do to prepare.

And you really do want bootable clone image of Mac OS anyway, in addition to or in place of TimeMachine, so no loss in doing so. It isn't as if you will lose or have to redo.
It needed contiguous free space and no files at the end of the disk. But installers and updates do scatter files and fragment free space a lot and can leave files locked where they can't be moved.

PS Elements 3.0 can not reinstall/repair with original cd. how can i fix this?
i am trying to repair Photoshop Elements 3.0 by reinstalling it. The computer is launching the home page off of the CD and allowed me to install Adobe Reader 6.0. When I tried to install Adobe Photoshop Elements 3.0 from the same home page I get the pop up box: ADOBE PHOTOSHOP ELEMENTS 3.0 INSTALLER INFOR... Please insert the disk: 1 OK / CANCEL. the disk is already in the drive so i click OK and i can hear it running but then i get the same pop up box asking to insert the disk. i have opened the drive and closed the drive but that didnt help. i have opened the files and tried to manually run the setup.exe but i still get the pop up box asking to insert the disk. How can I reinstall/repair my PS Elements 3.0 without the disk? ( I also updated to 3.0.1 and this didnt help)
if the disk wasnt reading for a repair/reinstall will it read for a regular install?
if i uninstall and reinstall will i loose all of my tags? -
I recently recieved a macbook that I was told was broken. She didn't know what was wrong with it, but she told me I could keep it if I wanted to get it working again. Its http://support.apple.com/kb/sp579 this model. I got the laptop to power on, but the apple logo and the spinning wheel under it kept spinning forever. So with me and my "Amazing" knowledge of Macs, I thought it would be best to reformat the drive on my PC via sata cable to FAT32 (which I was told is a format that mac devices can read/write on) and install OSX from usb. So I have a .dmg file and used TransMac to format the usb and make the usb drive bootable with the .dmg.
I formatted the drive to FAT32 and plugged it into my macbook and I get a folder and a question mark blinking on the screen. After looking at some forums online, I found that the error occurs when you don't have the correct filesystem to boot or something along those lines. So I try rebooting the computer while holding C, to boot from an external device (such as USB). Nothing. Again the folder and question mark blink on the screen. I look at some other boot option keys and try all of them. Shift for recovery mode, D for apple hardware test, Control, option, P, and R for resetting NVRAM and PRAM. Everything! The only things that differ slightly are when I press Option for startup manager, N for NetBoot and Option+N for internet default boot image. When I press N and Option+N, I get a blinking globe for about 5-10 seconds and then the folder and ? blink again. When I hold Option for the startup manager, I get a white screen and my curser, which I can move around the screen, but there is nothing to click on, its just white.
Currently I have a USB flash drive plugged into the macbook with a .dmg OSX installer on it via TransMac and for some reason, my macbook doesn't want to try to load it. Either I have the wrong file format for the installer, or my macbook is having problems. I read that the hard drive may be the problem, except I can use it on my PC so I know that it works fine.
If anyone has any information about how to fix this, or any ideas. Please let me know! I would very much like to get this macbook going again.The correct format for Mac OS X is not FAT-32.
As the computer shipped with an install-restore disc DVD set that could be used to start the computer as an emergency disc and use the Utilities on the Installer, without running the Installer itself, to format, attempt repair, and perform a few different system installs or reinstalls, this is where the correct format would come from.
Was there documentation to confirm the build year and model information, such as to refer you to the product page link you posted above?

And to be able to restore the basic OS X to that level, official replacement discs for that computer should be ordered from AppleCare; to facilitiate obtaining correct ones, you should find the product serial number. There likely would be a fee involved. The replacement disc set may have a different number than the one in the information box above, but would match the hardware series by Apple standards. And a replacement disc may not have the original extra applications that shipped with the computer when new. Those original discs are part of the retail computer, an essential part number, like the power adapter, and should be included with the computer even after an OS X upgrade, since they allow basic access without using the internet.
The remainder of the Snow Leopard 10.6(.8) would be a download Software Update Combo v 10.6.8, either direct from Apple servers or through the computer's running Software Update. Once the computer is up to date in Snow Leopard, 10.6.8, then one could visit the Mac App Store, App Store, and iTunes Store; from the Mac App Store, and you could check/get the latest upgrade to Mac OS X, 10.9.2. An Apple ID is required to access.
The computer may not support Mavericks 10.9.2, or may be able to, but could use an upgrade of RAM capacity.

The newer OS X systems that can use a Recovery HD partition on the hard disk drive, can start from there to repair their hard disk drive, and reformat the section where the Mac OS X runs, and reinstall that. Since there is no likelihood of that still being on the drive once it was FAT-32 reformatted, it will not be present to assist in attempts to reformat the drive; if the computer had been upgraded past Snow Leopard 10.6, to a later system that would have used the recovery partition, or the later internet recovery system. That goes to Apple Servers to use OS X Utilities and reinstall the system, helpful for computers without optical drives or system media. Your MacBook with 10.6.8 installed, then had to access the Mac App Store, to get 10.7.5, 10.8.5, or 10.9.x

Anyway, the hardware in the computer may need some inspection, troubleshooting, and maybe repair; but the original DVD install-restore disc has an Apple Hardware Test on it, for that series build model macbook. That could help in troubleshooting some aspects of the computer. Could be the hard disk drive failed; or if someone tried to upgrade the RAM, the system may not have worked correctly. Hard to say how it was messed up, at this stage. There are several possible causes.

Portege R100 - can I reinstall WXP with USB floppy & USB drive?
I have recently corrupted my R100 through a virus attack. In spite of belatedly cleaning things up with Norton it now goes very slowly and I believe the only way forward is through a total XP reinstall.
I have the original recovery CDs and a USB floppy drive but not a PCMIA CDRom. As luck would have it my USB CDRom is broken. How do I get out of this situation? I am about to throw out an old desktop and would be happy to use the XP retail on the R100 if needed. Moreover is there any way to start the format & install process from a bootable floppy and then install the bulk of the OS from a USB drive - having been populated previously with copies of CD contents? Desperate people dream up desperate methods!
I have read some other threads on XP recovery issues but they are not entirely coincident with my circumstances. Any help on this front would be very gratefully received.
Thanks in advance.If you can get the setup files onto the R100 HDD using a FAT32 partition, you can install Windows from the HDD after booting from an MSDOS boot disk. (MSDOS cannot see NTFS drives).
You can use a 1.8" USB HDD Adapter to copy the Setup files to the R100 HDD from another PC. The Adapter wouldn't be expensive. -
Can't install vista with bootcamp
I have a 20" iMac with OS 10.6.2
Before Snow Leopard came out I partitioned my drive to 32 GB and installed Windows Vista. I need more space on my Windows partition so I deleted the partition today and re-partitioned it to 60 GB or so. I inserted my Vista cd and started the installation but once the computer shut down and re-started I never made it to the install screen. It was stuck on a black screen with an underscore "_" then it extended to a long one "__" . After that nothing happened and as expected I wanted to throw the machine at the wall. I went back and re-partitioned it again back at 32 GB to see if I could get anything to happen. Instead of an underscore showing I now had "M76XT B22504 MXM GDDR3 256M 680e/750m" popping up on the screen. I tried restarting using option to get to the boot screen. I ejected the disk and reinserted it and tried booting again from the windows disk but it did nothing. So here I am asking you guys if you know anything that I don't know!! Only variables I changed were the Apple OS version (10.5 - 10.6) and the size of the partition. The Window disk isn't scratched or anything so I'm at a loss.Boot Camp is for Intel Macs only. The Boot Camp Assistant won't be installed on a PowerPC Mac such as yours, and if it's somehow present, won't open.

Later I removed windows 7 with bootcamp and it also worked.
Now I'm reinstalling windows with bootcamp and I'm not able to create a partition that I can use for Windows. Bootcamp creates a partition I formatted it to NTFS.
But when I am installing windows it prompts: can't create partition.
Please helpBe aware that EFI boot has issues with Graphics and Audio on Windows 7, but not on Windows 8+.
If you are using EFI boot, create a Free Space partition and let it be split by the Installer, into MSR and MSD. On Mac models which are considered preUEFI models, it may not work properly. Check your Model Identifier (System Report -> Hardware) against this list. preUEFI models do not understand the MSR data partition and will return Boot Device not found. -
How can I install winxp to bootcamp on imac with bad optical drive?
I have a mid-2007 20" aluminum Intel-based iMac and I'm having trouble getting a clean install of MacOS10.5.8 and Win XP (through Bootcamp) on a new drive.
The problem stems from the fact that I have no internal optical drive. My Superdrive began acting up a while ago (couldn't recognize, read from, or write to DVD). I replaced the drive, but the problem persisted. Calling Apple Support, they determined (guessed?) the problem was the logic board, and, as the machine is out of warranty, isn't worth replacing. No big deal - I've been using an external USB optical drive when needed.
However, my hard drive is beginning to experience issues (SMART Failure), and I want to reinstall everything MacOS, Bootcamp/Win XP on a clean new drive. The problem is that I cant resinstall Win XP to Bootcamp without an internal drive (which seems unlikely to ever work). I've tried creating a bootable USB key with the XP installation files going through the Bootcamp installation process using the WintoFlash/rEFIt method, but to no avail (won't recognize boot from USB).
Is it possible to remove the internal hard drive, boot from MacOS (10.5.8) on an external drive, and connect the optical drive to the sATA port where the internal drive was? Or is there a second sATA port on these logic boards? Or can I somehow connect the USB optical drive in a way that the iMAC thinks it's internal? I'm not afraid of digging into the iMAC (changed HDD and Superdrive already).
Is there anyway to test the pATA connection on my logic board to find out if it's really the problem? If it's not, maybe I can install WinXP on a second Windows formated drive, to take the space of the internal Superdrive.
There must be some good ideas out there somewhere. Barring that, my only other option is to use Parallels and take the performance hit that comes with running a virtual machine. UGH!Actually, when I followed that link, one of the related links in More Like This was a real find! An actual download of Aperture, albeit a trial, but that would have solved my problem too. I tested it and although it's embeded in a support article, the link to the trial version of Aperture still works.

Can I run XP AND Vista 64 with bootcamp? Or does it only allow dual boot?

Reinstalling Bootcamp. Want to use Vista 64 for faster Mental Ray rendering on 3dsMax, but I still want to play games on XP. Can I do a triple boot install with Bootcamp?
If not can I do an XP install then do a dual boot within my Windows partition or will that confuse bootcamp?
Anyone had any luck with this?Easiest if you install Vista first to a boot camp space that will be large enough to hold all the Windows OS's you want to use. After install, right click My Computer -> Manage: select Disk Management; you can shrink Boot Camp partition C, which leaves OS intact but allows another install to new D: "drive" created from shrink. Option key at start up allows boot for next install. You can control resulting Windows multiboot from System Properties->Advanced tab->Start and Recovery Setting.
Because Dos isn't there for FDisk at start up, in XP, I've done same with Diskpart.exe which is likely in \System32. Have not done this in Mac. -
Can't create Windows partition with BootCamp
When I try to create Windows partition with BootCamp I get the same error, no matter what size the partition is set to : "This disk cannot be partitioned because some files cannot be moved" and then keeps giving instructions about formatting the disk as a single partition (after performing a full backup I assume), and then try using BootCamp again.
Does that mean I have to erase and reinstall OS X to be able to do that ? Cause I just did that and I have the same problem. I'm not reinstalling again, it took me an entire day to reinstall all my softwares and run all the updates... Plus it reminds me too much of my Windows days... I'm not supposed to do that on a Mac anyway
Back to the topic... are there any services that need to be stopped during partitioning ? Any software installed that could prevent that ?
What could cause this problem ?Weird thing is I had no trouble making a partition using BootCamp before I restored OS X, and I had the same softwares installed... or maybe I did that before I installed some of them... Could this be related to any software I have installed ?
And judging by your suggestions I would say that the "iDefrag" option is the only way out of the two to make this work. Sounds a little extreme if you ask me... What happens on the first attempt of creating the partition that would make me choose backing up and/or defragmenting ? ... You don't have to answer that if it's too complicated...
Same thing happened on my other MBP... so as far as I'm concerned, I can only restore one more time and try to make the partition right after first startup. If that fails, then it means it could have been software related... Or maybe restore again, install one more software/utility I use and try partitioning again... and again, and again, until it fails...that way I'll know what caused it...

trying to install windows 7 32bit ultimate on my late 2006 iMac with bootcamp 4.0.4 running on Lion 10.7.5, but it can't complete install, the BSoD appears as soon as it tries to reboot to continue setup, last stage reached " setup preparing computer for first time use and registry change" never seen reaching setup checking video performance then BSoD kicks in followod by black screen sayinng windows did not shut down properly, tried in safe mode, with advance mode, rebooted in install disk and ran repair, says cant fix it automatically, with messge 07: Failure during setup o.s. version 6.1.7600.2.0.0.256.1, tried to install nvidia geforce 7600 but mac says cant or not needed, been trying everything i can for 2 days no sleep...im slowly losing it

You updated AMD graphic driver too to 11.8+ right? not just Apple's.
Plenty of free space for Windows to play with.

Boot from Windows DVD and run memtest and also do system check
Restore points are better used, and image Windows
Rollback drivers works well, too
Some had trouble after NetFrame 4? update in Windows (but not on my 3 computers)
Apple drivers can be iffy and buggy
AppleHFS.sys has been known to be trouble. HFS allows for filenames that NTFS won't.
Paragon has HFS9.x driver that adds write support and does a better job
BC 4.x is still it seems trouble for more than a few (but obviouslly not in the 10s of thousands) -

It sounds like you are constantly needing to restore your phone because it keeps going into recovery mode. Usually putting a device into recovery mode and restoring it can help isolate an issue to your iPhone hardware if an issue persists afterwards. I would try manually putting it into recovery mode and restoring it 1 more time:

You are allowed to have two machines with activated installations, so if you only had one installation, you still have the option to install on a second without doing anything further than that. If you originally downloaded the purchase thru Adobe then you might find a download link available in your Adobe account online.
