Can't Rename a Folder

Hello...
We have a folder on just about everyone's workstation that cannot be renamed unless the workstation is loaded in Safe Mode...it always says it is in use by another program and it really isn't...the folder itself is updated or checked for updates via a global
login script...could it be that because the script is ran on each login that it is still holding on to the folder? If so, anything we can do in the script to let go of the permissions?
If that's not it, any other suggestions?
Here is the login script:
\\DOMAINNAME\Clients\Setup\setup.exe /s DOMAINNAME
This even happens with workstatiosn that don't even have the app installed that would use this folder.
Thanks!
Brian

More notes...when logging in as local administrator, we CAN do the rename...when logging in with another user ID and WITHOUT the login script, we can't rename it...this may go back to another problem (and forum) post I have with Active Director being a mess...

  • Can't rename a folder in Windows 7 - receive error message

When trying to rename a folder in Windows 7, I get a "Folder In Use" message saying that the folder or a file in it is open in another program.  This is untrue as I don't have any other programs open.  I even rebooted the computer and tried again
and it gave me the same message.  This has occurred more than once and it's beginning to drive me crazy.  Do you have any suggestions as to how to fix this problem?

    Hi,
    Please use the
Process Explorer to check which process keeps your file in use.
In addition, you can try to rename the folder in
Safe Mode to see the result.

  • Can we rename the folder !SSL!

    Hello
Linux causes problems because of the special cases in the help file name. I link the html file to my system using the full path, for example: \Online_Help\ECC\!SSL!\WebHelp\introduction.htm
If I change the name of the folder !SSL!, will that cause any problems as it's automatically genarated?
    Thanks

You can rename it to whatever you like in Windows Explorer.
When you generate an output, make sure you change the destination to the new name in the first page of the wizard.
To avoid confusion I would create a folder outside the project folders and generate to that. Something like ProjectNameGenerate.

  • Can't rename 'new folder'

    Dear community,
in Safari (OS X Yosemite) I found a 'feature' that's not logical from my perspective: When I want to save a file (e.g. a PDF), I right-click the link and klick 'Save file under...'. Then a window opens where I can specify the path where I want to store the file. Because I want to save the file in a new folder, I right-click in the file/folder list and choose 'new folder'. The new folder is created now but I can't change it's name. I think this is not correct.
But when I click on 'new folder' on the left bottom of that windows I can specify a name for that newly created folder. I don't think that these two different behaviors are programmed with intent but by mistake. Am I wrong?
    Thanks for your ideas.

    You are absolutely right

  • Can't rename a folder in my computer

I cant rename a local drive in my windows 8.1 professional computer.when i try to rename a local drive and giving a name, its accepting but its still showing "local disk".I tried two three times and its showing "local disk" always. The
    drive letter is "E".
But in computer management its showing name of the drive which i gave for drive letter E.Whats the problem?
I have windows 8.1 professional, Intel core i-5 processor, 8 gb ram,64 bit operating system

Some programs make references to specific drive letters. If you change a drive letter, these programs might not work correctly
you can do clean boot, and close all open aplication, and try to rename it again, but
some programs might not work correctly
You can't change a drive letter if the drive is either a system partition or a boot partition, maybe there is OS installation there
If you connect to domain, maybe your system administrator blocked it, contact your system administrator

  • How can i rename my folder bookmark ? without this option or action ( clic right,...)

    Hi

Here is the easiest way. Right click the bookmark (on the taskbar) then click properties. In the small window that will pop-up, you will see the current name in blue highlight - so change it to whatever short name you want it to be - then save. All done!!

  • Can't see anything in external drive after renaming a folder

    Hi all,
I can't see anything on my external drive after renaming a folder. I have the drive set up as a Windows drive with access through the volumes folder (I had to transfer  large amount of files from a PC and have it be readable on my MacBook Air); I read a FAQ to set it up a few months ago and it has been working fine since then. I saw the same issue come up with a PC HD on a PC, but the solution was for a PC. I don't see anything else like that in the support community (or if it's there, then I'm not searching for it the right way). There is no partition on the drive and it still shows as having the same amount of data written on the drive as before the accident.
    Many thanks in advance!
    anj

If you upgrade the your router, it would be the firmware that will be upgraded. For more information regarding upgrading the firmware, try this link.
For your external drive, you might need to map the drive again with a different name.
    Hope this helps.

  • Can I lock a folder so that I cannot rename it

Hi everyboy, can I lock af folder so that I cnnot rename it, but still can edit and create files within it?
The problem being that I keep changing the name of a dropbox folder, which then needs to sync again.
    Thanks in advance,
    Rasmus Henriksen

Copy and paste this command in the Terminal and leave a space after it.
Then, drag your folder onto the Terminal window.  It will expand the path out for that folder. Hit return.
    chmod +a "group:everyone deny delete"
This will add the Access Control Entry that prevents anyone from deleting the folder, which also prevents renaming. It will still go to the rename mode, but will require you to authenticate to complete the rename.

  • Create Folder / Files and then can't rename or save for 1-30 minutes

On all of our Windows 2008 R2 File Servers (Some more reproducible then others) on our user shares only when users create a file/folder they can not rename it right away they have to wait 1-30 minutes.  Here is an example of the process... Thoughts...
This is happening on our Windows 7 & Windows 8 machine to our Windows 2008 R2 servers this does not appear to happen on Windows 2012 File Servers.

    Hi,
The issue could be due to thumbcache.dll still has an open handle to the local thumbs.db file and does not currently implement a mechanism to release the handle to the file in a more dynamic and timely fashion.
To work around the issue, please enable User Group Policy setting for "Turn off the caching of thumbnails in hidden thumbs.db files" to check the results.

  • Can I/How do I Rename the Folder Where All my Cataloged Images Reside

I have migrated all my images from an old W7 system to a newer system, and successfully built a new PSE catalog on the new PC.  Now I would like to rename the folder where the images actually reside.  How can I do that, PSE-wise?
I've found some options to move the PSE Catalog, but I don't think that's what I want - I want to move the media, and rebuild the catalog (and thus abandon ship on the old one).  Is that possible?

You have to export copies, and you can specify the resolution in the export dialogue. But the easiest way to provide high-resolution copies for your client is to give them full-sized JPEG images. Changing the resolution number will have no impact on the quality or the resolution. If you want to send them low-resolution images, then resize them to something like 800 x 1200 pixels. Again, the number in the resolution box has no impact on the quality. But you will have to export the copies in two export operations because you can't export two different sizes at once. You don't have to wait for the one export process to finish before you start the other one.

  • Can't rename folder in main directory and changes need to be authenticated

This just started today: I can't rename folders in my main directory, and I can't move anything in or out without authenticating. Yesterday I had remote tech support working to fix Parallels, and I suspect that the tech support guy changed a setting, but I can't find it to change it back. Ideas, anyone? Please advise.
    Thanks,
    Karen

Select the main directory in the Finder, choose Get Info from the File menu, and give yourself Read & Write access under Sharing & Permissions.

  • Can I rename the Home folder

I recently had my 15" MacBook Pro serviced because of a hard drive failure. It required that the operating system (OSX 10.7.3) be reinstalled. The reinstall was handled by the Best Buy Geek Squad store where I originally purchased the Mac. They named my home folder using only my first name in lower case letters. I would prefer my full name like my previous install.  DoI understand correctly that it is NOT possible to rename this folder? Would I have to reinstall Lion and wipe all the data to do this? Or is there a simple way to rename the folder.
    Thanks in advance,
    Anthony

Depending on whether your files are in that account or not, create a new one or open the Users & Groups pane of System Preferences, unlock it, control-click your account, choose Advanced Options, and change it.

  • Can't rename folders on Snow Leopard Server

I have 10.6.8 Snow Leopard Server running on a new Mac Mini server. Attached I have a Pegasus Raid storing all my files. I have a sharepoint set up for every project we work on but a couple act strangely. Users can create and delete folders but can not rename them once created. In order to rename they must drag the folder onto the desktop, rename and then replace the folder on the server. All permissions are set up identical to the other sharepoints which work fine. I have had a couple so-called "experts" look at the permissions in both the terminal and Server Admin. Everyone seems stumped. Any ideas?

Thanks for the input but I finally soved the problem. Here is what I found...
Although I had given users/group the ALLOW/FULL CONTROL premission with a sharepoint, I discovered that in Server Admin if you double-click on the User or Group name under the ACL permissions that a drop down box appears. This box allows you to fine tune the ACL but it appears that by default all of the boxes are not checked even though I granted the user Full Control. After checking all of the boxes I was able to create and rename folders in my share as expected.
This also had an similar effect if I denied Full Control. Some of the boxes remained unchecked and it left holes in my system where denied users could still access some files. Again by checking all boxes these holes were closed.
Does anyone know how to change the default so that all boxes are checked when assigning the Full Control permission?

  • How can I rename my pics in Bridge CS5?

How can I renams my pics in Bridge CS5?

Here's what is in the Bridge cs5 help pdf file.  (I was not able to find this same help info from clicking help in Bridge cs5).
    Batch rename files
You can rename files in a group, or batch. When you batch rename files, you can choose the same settings for all the selected files. For other batch-processing tasks, you can use scripts to run automated tasks.
1  Select the files that you want to rename.
2  Choose Tools > Batch Rename.
    3  Set the following options:
    Destination Folder
Place the renamed files in the same folder, move them to another folder, or place copies in another folder. If you choose to put the renamed files in a different folder, click Browse to select the folder.
    New Filenames
Choose elements from the menus and enter text as appropriate to create new filenames. Click the Plus button [+] or Minus button [-] to add or delete elements.
    •String Substitution
Allows you to change all or part of a filename to custom text. First, choose what you want to replace: Original Filename replaces the string from the original filename. Intermediate Filename replaces a string that is defined by preceding options in the New Filenames pop-up menus. Use Regular Expression allows you to use regular expressions to find strings based on patterns in filenames. Replace All replaces all substrings that match the pattern in the source string.
    Options
Select Preserve Current Filename In XMP Metadata to retain the original filename in the metadata. For Compatibility, select the operating systems with which you want renamed files to be compatible. The current operating system is selected by default, and cannot be deselected.
    Preview
One current and new filename appear in the Preview area at the bottom of the Batch Rename dialog box. To see how all selected files will be renamed, click the Preview button.
4  (Optional) Select a preset from the Presets menu to renaming with frequently used naming schemes. To save batch rename settings for reuse, click Save.
