You should probably quit the Dock again or, even better, log out and back in.
You will have to type ⌘ G in the Finder and type "~/Library/Application Support/Dock" to get to that folder. Bummer Apple, it sure didn't take long to have to unhide the Library foolder, eh?
This has worked for others who had the same problem.

I can't rename folders in Launchpad anymore
I'm running OS 10.7.3
When I first installed, I could rename folders (I know how to do this).
Now, I can no longer change the folder names.
I searched these discussion topics and found some posts about quitting the Dock process and trashing Dock prefs. I've done all these but there's still no success.
Any ideas...?PS:
I searched some more and found a pref pane called Launchpad Control that was helpful:
http://chaosspace.de/launchpad-control/
I find it disturbing though that the functionality has disappeared in the Finder. Hopefully this bug can be fixed in 10.7.4 -
I can no longer rename folders in Launchpad since Mavericks
How do I rename folders in Launchpad?
Click on the folder to open it, then click on the name (in the top left) to edit the name.
It sometimes happens that there is no response to a click on the name of the folder, if that happens, open Activity Monitor and Quit the "Dock" process. It will restart automatically within a second.
After that, try to rename the folder again, it should work. -
Ability to rename folders in Launchpad in Mountain Lion Seems to be broken. Is there a fix?

I can... you cannot. I'm not sure why. It will not work on an app icon.
Are you sure you're doing this on a Folder?
Perhaps it is a function of Finder. You can try deleting Finder prefs to default.
Go to your Finder "Go" menu hold the option key and choose Library. Then go to Preferences folder and trash these files:
com.apple.finder.plist
com.apple.sidebarlists.plist
Then, restart, or log out and in again.
(You will have to reset a few finder prefs the way you like them.) -
Rename Folders in Launchpad in Lion
HI - I've seen various comments on how to do this. I've tried to go into the folder, double click on the name (normally untitled) but it won't allow me to rename.
Anyone know how you rename folders in launchpad ?First try to create a new account and see if you have the same problem there. If not, it is likely just a preferences problem. I am running Lion 10.7.2 and I have an external drive hooked to my time machine. I can't rename folders and when trying, I get an error code 8076. The checkbox "ignore permissions for this device" does not show on volume info. Help please???
The TIme Machine volume does not have that checkbox.
I think the issue is with your Finder...
Go to Finder "Go" menu hold the option key and choose Library. Then go to Preferences trash these files:
com.apple.finder.plist
com.apple.sidebarlists.plist
Then, restart, or log out and in again.

Can`t rename folders or files in nfs windows 2012R2
I can not rename
folders or files that are in a nfs
unit. When I try to rename I get the
error "Invalid device", this only
happens in windows 2012r2 or
2012 in windows 2008r2 works with
the same nfs unit.
In
the event viewer no errors.
you know it
is happening?Hi,
Based on my research, the issue is a bug in Windows Server 2012 and 2012 R2. It needs some time to figure out the proper fixes, so please wait for a future patch. If there is a solution or workaround, I will post it in this thread.
Thank you for your understanding and support.

Can no longer rename folders in Launchpad
When I first installed Lion, I could rename folders I made in Launchpad just fine. Since updating to 10.7.1 I can no longer rename folders. Is anyone else having this problem?

Can't rename folders on Snow Leopard Server
I have 10.6.8 Snow Leopard Server running on a new Mac Mini server. Attached I have a Pegasus Raid storing all my files. I have a sharepoint set up for every project we work on but a couple act strangely. Users can create and delete folders but can not rename them once created. In order to rename they must drag the folder onto the desktop, rename and then replace the folder on the server. All permissions are set up identical to the other sharepoints which work fine. I have had a couple so-called "experts" look at the permissions in both the terminal and Server Admin. Everyone seems stumped. Any ideas?
Thanks for the input but I finally soved the problem. Here is what I found...
Although I had given users/group the ALLOW/FULL CONTROL premission with a sharepoint, I discovered that in Server Admin if you double-click on the User or Group name under the ACL permissions that a drop down box appears. This box allows you to fine tune the ACL but it appears that by default all of the boxes are not checked even though I granted the user Full Control. After checking all of the boxes I was able to create and rename folders in my share as expected.
This also had an similar effect if I denied Full Control. Some of the boxes remained unchecked and it left holes in my system where denied users could still access some files. Again by checking all boxes these holes were closed.
Does anyone know how to change the default so that all boxes are checked when assigning the Full Control permission? -
How can I rename Folders/events
Hello,
I finally decided to import my old MiniDV library into iMovie (about 20 tapes). I used the "automatic" setting to import entire tapes and just named them "Tape 1", "Tape 2", etc. figuring (perhaps naively) that I'll just rename each individual event within all those tapes at a later time. Now I can't figure out quite how to do it (I'm using iMovie '09).
I sure hope there's a way to do this... otherwise, all I have are events like: "Tape 15, Day 14".
Any help much appreciated! This can be done easily, but you must do it from within iMovie. You should see your events in the Event Library List. Click on the name and you should get a blue edit box.
I usually give mine a descriptive name and a reference to the tape, like Labor Day 2003 - DV 023.
You don't have to append a date, because if your metadata is intact, iMovie will sort it into the proper date for you.

Can't rename folder in main directory and changes need to be authenticated
This just started today: I can't rename folders in my main directory, and I can't move anything in or out without authenticating. Yesterday I had remote tech support working to fix Parallels, and I suspect that the tech support guy changed a setting, but I can't find it to change it back. Ideas, anyone? Please advise.
Thanks,
KarenSelect the main directory in the Finder, choose Get Info from the File menu, and give yourself Read & Write access under Sharing & Permissions.

Can't Rename or Move Folders in LightRoom 2
Hi,
I moved from LR 1.4 to 2.
Now I can't move or rename folders in the Library Module. Can you help?
Also, I still have LR 1.4 on my computer. Is this unsafe?
Is it safe to use 2.1 Beta?
I've already lost files because I didn't know you shouldn't run Time Machine with LR.
Thanks for any help.
Best,
MitchellThe method for renaming of folders in Lr2.x was changed from that found in Lr1.x.
Right click on folder to activate the context menu - you should rename is on the menu list.
There is no harm in leaving Lr 1.4 on your computer, but you should note that it cannot open Lr2.x catalogs.
Lr 2.1 is more stable that 2.0, so upgrading would be a good move. -
Can't delete or rename folders when I FTP
Hi
Hope someone can help me with this!!
When I connect to a webserver using FTP with dreamweaver, it
won't let me delete or rename any folders.
It's nothing to do with the persmissions becasue the user has
full permissions and can delete or rename when I FTP using a
different client. Any ideas?? Is there a setting that I am
missing??
Thanks in advace for any help
CheerDo you run a mac?
I had this problem at the last company that I worked for. I
was on a Mac
then; not sure if that had anything to do with the problem.
I could sometimes connect with Dreamweaver but I could always
connect with
another ftp client. At one point, when the problems started,
I used
Dreamweaver to rename folders on the server. Instead of
creating them on my
own system, I created files and renamed folder directly on
the server
through DW. After that, I had problems. At one point, all the
files got
changed so that they were locked down.
Occasionally, I thought I isolated the problem. At times,
recreating the
entire site worked. At other times, it helped for the server
to be rebooted.
At times I thought it was because of the firewall or content
filter that was
doing it. I think it was a Windows Server that I had the
problems with. I
don't remember if the other servers gave me problems.
I never really resolved it. Now I'm at a different job and I
have but a
passing interest in what it might be.
Sorry I don't have anything solid. -
Can't Modify or Rename Folders in Utilities or some Applications
All the application folders in my Utilities Folder cannot be renamed and I can't delete them unless I put in an admin password.
This occurred after I migrated to a new Macbook Pro 15" from my previous one. The problem did not occur on the old one.
An example from a folder in Utilities - "Pacifist 2.5.2":
1. Get Info Says that I (david), admin and everyone all have "Read and Write" permissions
2. Get Info says that folder is not Locked
3.Terminal says "drwx rwx rwx@ 9 david admin ... Pacifist 2.5.2"
Based on the above there should be no reason why I can't rename the folder. Sub folders have the same problem. As a result - applications that try to autoupdate from the internet are failing because they are unable to write to their own folder (latest example: SplashID).
It is also affecting some of the Apps in the main Application folders. Seems to be anything that was migrated is locked out but stuff newly installed there is OK.
Locked Applications (can't rename or change label) have the following permissions in Get Info:
System: RW
Wheel: R
Everyone: R
Applications that can be renamed or have the label changed have the following:
System: RW
Admin: RW
Everyone: R
However, adding an "admin RW" permission to the former type does not open it up.
Is there any way to batch fix this? Or any way to fix it at all?
Of course I have run repair permission a couple of times.
Appreciate any tips. Thanks
DavidIf an application was not installed by an Apple installer (e.g. drag and drop) or is in your user's folder, repairing permissions will be useless.
Your example shows extended attributes. Try the following Terminal command to list any additional attributes and ACL entries:/usr/bin/who am i; /bin/ls -leO@d /path/to/problem/folder -
Can't rename or delete folders because thumbs.db is accessed / locked
Hy techguys!
I have a problem deleteing or renaming folders on a network share.
When I look at the opened files on the Server I noticed that the Thumbs.db in the folder is opened by a user.
But the User have already closed the folder.
If i disconnect the Session on the Server the folder can be renamed or deleted.
The other way is to wait and the Session will close automatically. This lasts between minutes to houres?
Anyone an Idea why the connection to the thumbs.db were not closed?
Thanks
