Can`t rename folders or files in nfs windows 2012R2

I can not rename
folders or files that are in a nfs
unit. When I try to rename I get the
error "Invalid device", this only
happens in windows 2012r2 or
2012 in windows 2008r2 works with
the same nfs unit.
In
the event viewer no errors.
you know it
is happening?

Hi,
Based on my research, the issue is a bug in Windows Server 2012 and 2012 R2. It needs some time to figure out the proper fixes, so please wait for a future patch. If there is a solution or workaround, I will post it in this thread.
Thank you for your understanding and support.
Best Regards,
Mandy

  • Can't add folders nor rename folders or files.

I'm setting up an A1342 MacBook and now I'm unable to add any folders nor to rename folders or files. Where do I go to unlock these? Looked all around OS Preferences, & don't see what I need to do.

What version of the Mac operating system is running on your MacBook? (Go to the Apple menu, select About this Mac and look for the version number.)
If you select a folder and then Get Info for it (command-i on your keyboard or File menu > Get Info) are you able to change the name there? What does it say for Sharing & Permissions?
    Best of luck.

  • Unable to rename folders and files on SharePoint mapped drive.

I just installed a fresh copy of Windows 7 and have mapped a drive to my SharePoint "Shared Documents" folder.  I am able to open, save, and delete files and folders.  However, I am unable to rename files and folders.  No matter how long of
short of a name I use I get the following error:
"The file name you specified is not valid or too long.  Specify a different file name."
    I've mapped the "S" drive to http://hostname.domain.com/Shared Documents/
I am a SharePoint Admin, and have confirmed that if I do not have this problem if I log into SharePoint with IE.  I have also confirmed that others are not experiencing this issue. Also, this issue did not exist on my previous installation of Windows
    7.  Therefore I assume this is a config issue.
Also, in "My Computer" it shows the mapped SharePoint drive as a "FAT" filesystem.

Did some more testing. From my mapped drive, I can create new folders and files, and delete them.  I created a folder in Windows Explorer, when I tried to give a name it gave me the above error and saved the folder as "New Folder".  No matter when
I try, I cannot rename this folder unless I log into the SharePoint interface.
Next, I tried this from the command line.  I moved to my S drive, and did a "mkdir test" and was able to create a folder named test.  Next I tried to "rename test testing" and received the following error:
The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect.
The full path is S:\test.  If I do a "mkdir testing" I am able to create the folder.  If I try to rename the folder in Explorer, it gives me the "file name not valid or too long".  I'm obviously well under the 260 character limit, so there
has to be something wrong with the fiel name, or drive mapping.
Also, when I "dir" the S drive it tells me the drive has no label.  "Volume in drive S has no label."
I'm having the same issue with files. I can create a file, modify it, delete it, but can't rename it.

The TIme Machine volume does not have that checkbox.
I think the issue is with your Finder...
Go to Finder "Go" menu hold the option key and choose Library. Then go to Preferences trash these files:
    com.apple.finder.plist
    com.apple.sidebarlists.plist
Then, restart, or log out and in again.
(You will have to reset a few finder prefs the way you like them.)

  • Can't see folders or files on a recorded DVD

I have a Panasonic VHS/DVD recorder. In the past - with Jaguar & Tiger - I have been able to see the VIDEO_TS Folder and the files contained therein by double-clicking on the DVD icon.
I discovered that on my MacBook Pro running Leopard, when I open the DVD it doesn't show any folders or files. A window opens on the desktop, but there is nothing in there. Is there anything I can do about that? Did Apple intentionally "hide" the files?
I have a set of a foreign TV series that I had recorded from VHS to DVD, although I was missing a few episodes. At the time, I used MPEG Streamclip on a G4 iMac running Jaguar. A friend recently gave me the episodes I was missing, so I wanted to re-do my set of DVDs.
It will be a lot easier if I can open individual .vob files, so I hope there is an easy solution.

files and folders that start with dot are normally hidden in finder. you really don't want to see them all the time, trust me. they are system files and folders that you don't normally need to see. to see trashed items just open trash in the dock. but if you want to take a look run the following terminal command
defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles 1; killall Finder
to hide them back (as I'm sure you'll want to soon) change 1 to 0 in the command.

  • Can I transfer my CS5 files from my Windows 7 computer to my Mac Yosemite computer and have them work with CS6 for Mac?

I am using Dreamweaver CS5 on a Windows 7 laptop.  I would like to change to Dreamweaver CS6 on my Mac running Yosemite.  Can I transfer my CS5 files from the  Windows computer to the Mac and will CS6 be able to work those files on the Mac?  I do not need nor want a subscription account.  Just the stand-alone program for occasional tweeks to my web site.  at www.longwayhome.com.

Yes, your files in CS5 are just .html, .css, .php and .js files, there's nothing that makes them "CS5 versions" of those file types.
You can do it a couple different ways, but the easiest would be to copy the folder being used as the root directory (and all of it's contents) from one machine to the other, then on the new machine, simply set up a new site definition, using that newly copied folder as the local root.
If you want, you can export your site settings (FTP and whatnot) on the old machine...
Go to Site > Manage Site> click the site you want > Export
Copy the resulting .ste file along with the local root folder to the new machine
On the new machine go to Site > Manage Sites > import to bring in the .ste
Relink that new site to the newly copied root folder

  • Can't rename folders on Snow Leopard Server

I have 10.6.8 Snow Leopard Server running on a new Mac Mini server. Attached I have a Pegasus Raid storing all my files. I have a sharepoint set up for every project we work on but a couple act strangely. Users can create and delete folders but can not rename them once created. In order to rename they must drag the folder onto the desktop, rename and then replace the folder on the server. All permissions are set up identical to the other sharepoints which work fine. I have had a couple so-called "experts" look at the permissions in both the terminal and Server Admin. Everyone seems stumped. Any ideas?

Thanks for the input but I finally soved the problem. Here is what I found...
Although I had given users/group the ALLOW/FULL CONTROL premission with a sharepoint, I discovered that in Server Admin if you double-click on the User or Group name under the ACL permissions that a drop down box appears. This box allows you to fine tune the ACL but it appears that by default all of the boxes are not checked even though I granted the user Full Control. After checking all of the boxes I was able to create and rename folders in my share as expected.
This also had an similar effect if I denied Full Control. Some of the boxes remained unchecked and it left holes in my system where denied users could still access some files. Again by checking all boxes these holes were closed.
Does anyone know how to change the default so that all boxes are checked when assigning the Full Control permission?

  • Can't rename a single file to autorun.inf even all ntfs permissions are correct

    I have this odd problem:
Logged in as Domin Administrator I couldn't  rename or open for editing an existing file "autorun.inf" even though all the ntfs permissions were correct. Every other files in the same directory (mainly .swf, .docx, .js and .htm files)
are both editable and can be renamed.
When I deleted the file "autorun.inf" from the folder and tried to create a new one with the same name, OS (Windows Server 2008 R2) notifies me that I "need permission to perform this action". Furthermore OS notifies me that "You
require special permission from Administrators to make changes to this file". Neither can I copy a file named "autorun.inf" from another location to this folder. This is in spite of being logged in as Domain Admin.
    In short: I can't create a file called autorun.inf in a folder!
Could  there be some kind of extra locking concerning files named autorun.inf i.e. some protective mechanism in this particular folder's permissions or SRV2008R2 itself that I've missed. All the other folders allow me to create whatever files i like
    into them.
I would very much appreciate if anybody can help me with this.

Yes, by default that will block any access to autorun.ini files. We use the same, so the issue sounded familiar, and of that I asked specificly to that :)

  • Droplet to Rename Folders and Files

I am an AS newbie and I need some help. Our accounting software creates a folder structure on our server when a job is created with a 6 digit job number. Enclosed in this folder is a set of sub-folders which are generated with a generic name: 0000_Art, 0000_Final, 0000_Fonts etc. It also places a generic rtf file named 0000_Readme. When work begins on a job we currently have to replace the "0000" with the last four digits of the job number: "140662" = "0662_Art" etc.
I found a script to do this with some manual intervention but wanted to take this one step further by creating a droplet and making it drag and drop. This droplet works, but the problem comes in that it still wants you to choose the target folder from a dialog and I would like to just auto process the dropped folder and it's contents. Also, is there a way to tell AS to use characters 3-6 of the dropped folder's name to replace any instances of "0000" in sub-folder or document names enclosed? Is there any uneccessary code which can be stripped out?
Here is the script as it stands now:
    on open of finderObjects
set the source_folder to (choose folder with prompt "Folder containing items to edit:") as Unicode text
display dialog "Search and replace in:" buttons {"File Names", "Folder Names", "Both"} default button 3

Hi lunarlandr and welcome to Apple Discussions!
Without going through the script in detail, there's a lot that can be stripped out, and a few goodies that can be added.
Droplets work best when iterating through lists (even one-item lists) of Finder items. As a brief example:
    on open (these_objects)
    repeat with each_object in these_objects
--do something with each object in turn
    end repeat
    end open
You need to remove the line beginning "choose folder" and let each_object become your source folder.
The code below is rough and may need some amendment, but it should answer most of your questions. Test it and see.
    --begin script
    on run
display dialog "I'm a droplet! Drop things on me!" buttons {"OK"} default button 1 with icon note
--although you could incorporate a choose folder here
    end run
on open (these_objects) -- a list of aliases
    repeat with each_object in these_objects
set item_info to info for each_item
set folder_contents to (list folder item_info)
if kind of item_info is "Folder" and folder_contents contains "0000_Readme" then -- only process job folders
set job_number to text 3 thru 6 of name of item_info
    process (eachobject,jobnumber)
    else --not a job folder
display dialog "I only work with proper job folders." buttons {"OK"} with icon note giving up after 3 -- move on to next item in list
    end if
    end open
    on process (topfolder,jobnumber)
    tell application "Finder"
set folder_contents to every item of top_folder
    repeat with each_item in folder_contents
set generic_name to name of each_item
if generic_name begins with "0000_" then
set name of each_item to job_number & text 5 thru -1 of generic_name --everything from the underscore to the end
    end if
    end repeat
    end tell
    end process
    --end script
The droplet will process multiple folders with different job numbers, without any user interaction. The name of the internal files and folders is derived from the name of the dropped folder.
    Hope it helps,
(Although I don't see why the accounting software shouldn't do all of this for you...)

  • Cannot rename folders or files

Periodically Finder decides to stop letting me rename anything on my computer. I can create new folders, but must leave them as the default "untitled folder." When this glitch starts, I also cannot copy and paste from the text that is in the folder name. Additionally, spotlight search stops working.
Relaunching finder has no effect. Deleting the com.apple.finder.plist file and relaunching works only some times. Oh great, I just hit command + **** + U to open up utilities in order to open the Console and discovered keyboard shortcuts have stopped working too. Nothing weird is happening in the Console.

Also, just to be on the safe side, although force quitting the finder appears to temporarily resolve the issue, I also did the following:
tested disk directory with apple disk utility: OK
repaired permissions: nothing had to be repaired
force quitting the finder restored normal functionality
noted that font reserve was not un-installed properly, preference pane was still in system preferences, although application was missing, un-installed font reserve via installer
noted that there were duplicate fonts showing in font book, resolved and/or disabled duplicate fonts
deleted finder preferences from user/library/preferences folder
ran spotless utility to delete entire spotlight index for both volumes attached
ran font finagler to delete all font caches
    rebooted
finder seems to operate normally now, finder preferences is normal 4K size
since issue was intermittent, i'm not 100% sure if the issue is resolve, and user will report back if it occurs again
    This was on a 10.4.11 G5 dual 1.8GHz Macintosh
