Can't rename Layers in Flash CS4

When I double click on a layer name the editable text field appears for a fraction of a second, then disappears.
The only way around this is to right click and change the name in Properties... which isn't very convenient esp. since "Properties" is at the bottom of the list and the timeline is also at the bottom of the screen.
At one point, this problem resolved itself. Not sure what I did to fix it. But recently I had to trash my preferences and now the problem is back.
Can anyone help?

Using CS4 on Visat Ultimate.
I closed Behaviors and Actions in the Classic workspace and still couldn't rename layers.
I switched to Essentials workspace and then could rename layers.
Then switched back to Classic and could still rename layers.
Haven't reopened Behaviors or Actions, though.
Why doesn't Adobe fix this stuff?
And add Type on a Path at the same time!

    My testing on the Mac side is pointing toward the Behaviors palette as to the culprit in this issue. As soon as I open that palette in my workspace, the ability to double click on a layer name in the Timeline palette stops. I have to right click and select Properties from the popup menu. Resetting my custom workspace does resolve the problem.

    Yes, that sounds consistent with my findings as well, although not the Behaviors panel specifically for me - it was opening a series of other panels (components, component inspector, align, and transform I believe) from a certain workspace that tended to exhibit the issue at times. It is still a very very weird bug that I've never seen repro 100% of the time using a series of steps, even after I was finally able to see it happen on my machine.
    I would like to try it using your workspace though, if you're able to attach that and post the steps you're using (if it's more than just opening the Behaviors panel) along with your resolution.

  • Can't type in "{" in flash cs4

    I´ve been having this problem ever since I installed flash cs4. I don't know if its because of the operating system or because of the keyboard, the only thing I know is that I can't type in any symbol that requires "ctrl+alt". I'm using a portuguese (PT) keyboard layout. for example, it I want to type in "@", i would have to press"ctrl+alt+2", like for some other symbols. In this specific case, none work from the key 1 to 9 (ctrl+alt+0 works). I've noticed this only happens in flash because while using photoshop i have no problems with the keyboard.
    I've tried re-installing the program but the problem continues. I really need atleast the "{" to work so I can use action script. Can anyone tell me what to do?
    By the way, my OS is vista x64 (if that affects anything)

    I had the same problem. Simply download and install [http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ Flash Player], and you'll be able to type in Flash input boxes again.

         I have learning AS3 just a short time,and there is a task need me to do spelling check in a textArea.
         I'm so glad that i find this,but I can not use it well.I try it in Flex builer3 and it worked well,but i don't know how to use it by flash cs4.
         My programm is built by flash cs4,and I cannot change it to Flex now.
         I put the swc file into compoent menu and new a file as sample code,but it cannot work.
         I want to know whether this can be used by flash cs4 and how?

  • Custom keyboard shortcuts and editing multiple layers in Flash CS4

    Hi, all -
    CS3 -> CS4 transition newb here who's getting increasingly frustrated with the new motion tweens; however, for this project, I'm working in a 3D space and require using them, so I'm dealing with this bit by painful bit. I found the tip about Split Motion, but first question: how do you apply Split Motion across several layers at the same time? I have six different tweens, and in CS3, I used to be able to shift-click or click-drag across frames and apply a command to all of them (for example, hit F5 to add frames), but Split Motion is requiring me to right-click on each and every layer. This is really laborious, and I worry about future animations that might be more complex.
    Similarly, I tend to add custom keyboard shortcuts to each of my Flash versions for commands I use frequently and don't want to right-click a menu for (such as "add motion tween") - however, I can't seem to find where to create a custom shortcut for either that, or Split Motion.
    Any and all help would be appreciated as I muddle through this. Honestly, guys, I WANT to like the new version and there's so many added features, but it's hampering my workflow so bad I want to pummel it with sticks.

    I definitely hear you about Split Motion. There is an enhancement request for supporting multiple layers, and adding it as a keyboard shortcut. The first one is tricky, but the second one is not. I think there was hope that splitting motions wouldn't be necessary much (especially since you have to be careful when doing so when eases are involved), which is why the eventual need for more functionality related to split motion was realized a bit late in the schedule.
    Now regarding other operations, such as you mentioned F5 to insert frames - that and other operations (inserting certain types of property keyframes, F6, and so on) work just fine.
    You can apply a shortcut to Create Motion Tween in the custom keyboard shortcut dialog.  Not all operations in the program are available though (most context menu items aren't), which is why unfortunately why we don't see Split Motion yet.
    It might be possible to avoid Split Motion though with another workflow. What are you using the feature for?  Just curious in case I can help.

  • Unable to rename layer in Flash CS4

    I have three different machines, all XP Pro, with all the latest service packs and updates (windows and adobe). When trying to rename a layer in the timeline, if I double click the layer name the name changes to edit mode for a fraction of a second and then switches back to non-editable. I can rename the layers through the properties but I'd like to solve this issue.
    Any suggestions?

    This will happen when the Behaviors and Actions panel are open at the same time, or have been open at the same time in the current workspace or a workspace that the current one is based off of.
    Make sure both of those panels are closed, then open a default workspace and create a new workspace based off of that without opening those two panels at the same time.

  • How can Image sliding work in flash cs4 on mac using mx.controls.loader

    Hi i started working in flash after a long time. i am creating a virtual catalogue DVD for my client. to work on it quickly, i used mx.controls.loader component to call jpg images in my movie.i just gave contect path in component inspector. my working OS platform is windows xp. and everything is working perfectly fine. i used actionscripting on buttons to slide images left and right. when my client opened it in mac everything else was fine but images were not loading. although the directory path everything is right and working here but not in mac.

    Hi Mate - I'm using CS4 Extended Ps v11.0.2, according to the Adobe site photoshop instals a 32 bit version only. How can I find out exactly by checking out preferences etc? I'll have to go hunt out the box.

  • Can't rename layers in Muse CC

    I used to be able to. What gives? I have rebooted my mac and still nothing. No other programs running. Double clicking does not open the text for renaming.

    I totally agree with the frustration of not being able to rename all layers. I have submitted it as an idea for a feature request here: Rename child layers (e.g: Rectangle to banner_fill or whatever!)
    Do vote for it and mention it to others who use Muse and get them to vote, even if it is a down vote as would be good to get a better idea of where this lies in terms of user "want", for us and the Muse team.

    Still sorting through the differences between Flex and Flash.  Am wondering if various controls available in Flex can be used in Flash.  I'm coding in AS3.  If so, are there any pitfalls to doing this?

  • Can't name layers in Photoshop CS4

    When I highlight a layer and start typing a new name in, it switches over to keyboard shortcuts. The only way I can name a layer is to go into Layer Properties, which takes up a lot of time. I've removed prefs and restarted, run Diskwarrior, repaired permissions, everything I can think of.
    I am also having the same trouble with InDesign, so perhaps this problem is Adobe-wide, but these are the two I use the most. I suspect this was caused by the installation of MacKeeper, which was deleted some time ago - still have problem.
    Can anyone suggest a fix? Thank you!

    The whole MacKeeper thing is very weird. I saw some review of it - a resounding review, on a responsible site - and thought I'd try it, what the heck. I am VERY careful about stuff like that. Ran it, freaked because it appeared to trash some things, messaged their help center and asked them to uninstall, which they did right away. But it can't have been anything else - I regularly run maintenance programs, repair permissions, etc. Tried replacing apps w/ Time Machine version, no real luck. I had my fingers crossed that there would be a way to fix this, but I guess that's reinstall.
    Guess I would warn anybody thinking of MacKeeper - don't do it!

  • "Show Transform Controls" Equivalent in Flash CS4? + Other Questions

    Hi everyone.
    I've been using Adobe Flash CS3 & CS4, and I still find it ridiculously hard to navigate around that Program sometimes, mainly when I have to deal with a Pre-made Flash website that needs Editing.
    Allot of people Label layers, Symbols, etc... poorly, so it's hard to find your way around.
    I would like to know if these is any Equivalent of "Show Transform Controls" (from Adobe Photoshop), in Adobe Flash CS4.
    I have loads of Layers to deal with, and the only way I can get to edit the Layer, is by double clicking on them, then I go to it's timeline and settings.
    Most of the times I can't even see some of these Layers/Buttons, as they appear invisible on the Stage/Preview Screen.
    How can I more easily Work with my Layers in Flash CS4?
    It would be allot easier, if I could click on the Layer in the Pallet, and see an outline of where it is on the Stage.
    Or if I could edit the settings of a Layer, by clicking something in the Layers Palette.
    I am also trying to figure out how I can change the color of an image to Black/White, I only know how to do this with the Motion Tween Option, that gradually changes the color over those given seconds. I don't want an animation, just permanent color change.
    Also when I am moving a Object in one layer,
    when I exit and view a different layer, I see that the "Shared" object also moved there too, which I do not want.
    Is there any way to unlink these by chance?
    Is any of this possible?

  • Latest PS CC, generator bug when renaming layers

    OS: Win7 64bit
    Problem:
    I can't rename layers while photshop is generating assets. I have a big web layout PSD file with hundrets of layers, 74 of them are named so PS generates them as assets. When "Generate Assets" is checked, photoshop aborts every attempt to rename any layer by itself and writes a "color change" to the protocol.

    On the left is my layers pallet, on the right is the protocol panel. Everytime I double click to rename a layer, the edit is aborted and the protocol shows "color change".
    This bug is immensely frustrating, since the only workaround is to wait some time until photoshop has finished generating the assets. When I uncheck "Generate Assets", the bug appears as well, since photoshop deletes all the assets in the folder.
    I noticed that the same bug appears when you use the "Remote connection" feature, everytime photoshop sends an update to a remotely connected device, the layer naming is aborted. Maybe these bugs are related, you guys should check for that.

  • How do I import SWC files created with Flex info Flash CS4?

    I've created very nice UI component using Flex 3 and I have exported it into a SWC file.
    How can I import it into Flash CS4 to use it there?

    Hmm... if you happen to be familiar with C#, then you may probably know about the problem of P/Invoke (this is a command that lets you access Windows API through C# code, which will apparently prevent it from functioning on other OSs).
    What happens with Flex framework is somewhat similar to this. I.e. it relies to much on the features of Flex compiler and the components of the framework create a lot of cross-dependencies, which makes them barely usable outside the framework.
    So, if you have time and doing this just as a matter of learning, I'd suggest you start an AS project in Flex builder and advance with it compiling it both with Flex and Flash to see if there are any differences (basically, once you see it doesn't compile / doesn't behave as you'd expect in Flash, you'll know you used something that is specific to Flex). These would be mostly meta tags, like [Bindable] for example.
    And, if you need any tutorials on how to code in pure AS, then, well, there are really to many So that you can even choose what's appropriate / goes better with your learning habits.

  • How can I make a transparent square box swf file in flash cs4?

    Hi,
    I have one picture imported into flash cs4 and would like to make a rectangle box which should be transparent. Finally I will save it as .swf file for later use. But the box should be transparent (without any background). How can I do that? Please do help.

  • How can I mask on flv file in flash cs4?

    Hi,
    I am new to Flash CS4. I saw one video on how to use flv file in flash and mask it. It is working fine when I am using the following option while importing a video file to flash:
    Load external video with playback component
    But when I tried with the following option it doesn't show the background, it shows only movie which is playing nicely. But not the background which has a bill board.
    Embed FLV in SWF and play in timeline
    It seems the mask is not working with this option.
    How to solve this problem? Please help.
    Actually it should be like the above.
    But when I am using the option Embed FLV in SWF and play in timeline while importing the flv video, getting the result like below: It is not showing the Bill board as above.
