Can't rename movie in iTunes

I imported a few home movies into iTunes. However a few of them can't be renamed. What ever I tried, the name was reset to the old name. I've tried
renaming the name field in iTunes (directly in the list but also in the "Info"-Window - new file name is accepted but disappears
copying the movie file to the desktop;
deleting the movie from iTunes (I selected to delete the file too and verified that it was deleted);
renaming the movie-file on the desktop to the desired name;
importing the renamed movie-file into iTunes
result: the renamed file appeared in the folder where the original file was but about half way through the copying process it is being renamed to the old name (under which it appears also in the iTunes list).
I should mention that the iTunes library is on a Synology DiskStation. ...urgently need help - any idea what can be done? Thanks!!

iTunes will rename the finder file name to match the "Name" column of the iTunes window. If you rename the file from the finder then play the file via iTuens it will again be renamed to match the "Name" column.
To rename items then do it from the iTunes window and not the finder. Also make suer the file is not locked.

  • Renaming movies causing Itunes to freeze (sort of a fix)

When I tried renaming movies in Itunes, it would freeze, leaving me no choice but to force quit. I originally went on here asking for help. I tried deleting the movie, renaming the file, and adding it back. Nope. I had to edit some clips in Movie Maker anyways, so while importing, I made sure the name was what I wanted. Nope again. Then I deleted my trash because I was sure my old movie files were in there. However, unlike deleting music, where it asks to keep the file or move to the trash, it'll delete the movie, but the file won't be moved to the trash. I assume this until I did a quick command+F to find the old files of the movie. I moved those to the trash, then emptied it. For some reason, I have duplicates of the same exact file, so make sure you don't accidentally delete the one you need. *(I found this helped: 1. move the file you need to a folder 2. Right click, check "get info" and move only identical ones (by date and time) at a time to the desktop. If the names are the same, it'll ask something about replacing the file. Say yes. 3. Move to the trash.
TL;DR delete the file from Itunes, find old files of the mp4 file on your computer, move those to the trash, make sure you're not deleting the ones you need*, empty the trash, add back into Itunes.
Unfortunately, I wasn't able to find anything for Itunes freezing up- I think that's something Apple has to fix (I even updated Itunes). I just found how to rename a file, which unfortunately, is not the click-once-and-edit-on-the-spot way, but hey, it worked. Honestly, I don't see it being fixed anytime soon.

If Itunes match fails to complete its scan process and is stuck in steps 1, 2 or 3 the following steps usually clears problems:
    1. Hold option key (Mac) or shift key (PC) whilst turning of match. This clears genius/match cache.
    2. Close iTunes. Optional - Reboot computer.
    3. Open itunes and turn on match. Select "add this Computer" and see if process completes.
If you see the following when you go into the match screen and it has been likes this for a while, I suggest that you stop process and go to menu > store and select  update Itunes match:
You should see this if you progess on from "Sending information" to "waiting for Apple.. This should happen within minutes:
You should also add icloud status column to song view - go to menu > view> view options and tick box. This will tell you what has been Matched, Uploaded, Purchased, Inelligible, Duplicate or Waiting.
Tracks that are "Waiting" may include one or more corrupt tracks. You may have to remove all "Waiting" tracks from your library as it is not always clear which ones are causing the problem. Large / Long tracks that will be uploaded may be the cause of the problem.
Once you have removed the tracks, follow steps 1 to 3 again and see if process completes. You can then readd the tracks, a small number at a time until all your music is added.
If problem persists, you should consider creating an alternative itunes library. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1589.
This creates a new blank library. Turn on match and Select "add this Computer". Once process is complete you will see all the music that you have in match. If you see tracks with "waiting" Icloud status and are "greyed out", this may be the reason why the match process does not complete. Delete those tracks and go back to your original library. You may need to follow steps 1 to 3 above again.

  • I'm retiring my old computer (windows xp) to a new computer (windows 7). How can i easily move my itunes music from the old computer to the new computer? i have my playlists organized in my old computer, i would like it to stay that way in my new computer

i'm retiring my old computer (with windows xp) and bought a new computer (with windows 7). How can i easily move my itunes music from the old computer to the new computer? i have my playlists organized in my old computer, i would like it to stay that way in my new computer. I also have my ipods, iphone sync'd in the old computer so i want to make sure that things won't get messed up (my apps, playlists, etc) when i move over everything to the new computer and sync all my devices with the new computer.
Thanks in advance for the tips.

Make sure the XP box is upgraded to the latest version of itunes. Also make sure it's using the itunes media folder layout as explained here, because that's what the W7 is going to be using.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3847
Install itunes on the new W7 PC.
Get these folders from the XP machine
    C:\Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\My Music\iTunes
    C:\Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
And put them here on the W7 machine
    C:\users\username\My Music\iTunes
    C:\Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\

While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.

  • Can you download movies into iTunes then watch them via airplay without an internet connection?  We want to be able to watch them in our RV that does have an internet connection always.

Can you download movies into iTunes and watch them via airplay without an internet connection?  We want to be able to watch downloaded movies in our RV.

If you want to watch on your iPad screen, you don't even need airplay.
If you want to watch on a television screen, you need an AppleTV.
    In both cases...
If the movies are purchased, there is no need for an Internet connection to the outside world.  If they're rented, you need an Internet connection for the first minute or so that Apple knows that you're watching the movie.  I do not know if a rented movie can be stopped and restarted without an Internet connection.

  • Can not add movie to itune

    Hi,
I just set up new itunes for ipod touch but i just can not add movie file (mp4) to library in itunes. Please help! Thanks so much!

Make sure you're looking for it in the Movies or TV Shows libraries, or do a search for it by name.
Did you check if the format is compatible with iTunes (QuickTime plays more formats if you have add-ons)?
"but when I open that file with itunes"
This statement confuses me as your point 1/ says you can't find it in iTunes.

  • Can i have movies in Itunes you

  • Can I safely move my iTunes library to an external hard drive, to free up memory?

As an elementary music teacher, I have more than 10,000 songs in my iTunes library.
I also have a lot of video footage of my students' performances.
I need to free up memory and am wondering if there is a safe way to move the iTunes library to an external hard drive, and, if it is safe, how difficult will it be for me to access it from the external hard drive.
On my school computer, one of the "techies" moved that iTunes library to an external drive and ended up quadrupling the size of it, so want to be sure that if this makes sense, that I do it the right way!!!
    Thanks so much!

Can I move those songs to an external hard drive?
    yes.
Will that improve the speed of my computer?
maybe. what is the total capacity of your boot drive and how much free space is left ?

  • Can't Add Movies to iTunes Library

I have terabytes of home movies that I have imported from the camera into iMovie.  It dawned on me that I would like to watch these in my living room via my Apple TV III.  However, I'm having trouble adding these .mov files to my iTunes library. I added a handful, but when I tried to view them in my iTunes library (by double-clicking on the title in iTunes), I got a very low-res version of it that only shows a frame or two per second.  When I tried to view them on my Apple TV, I got an error message saying, "No content was found."
Subsequent attempts to add the iMovie .mov files were even less successful. When I try and drag any more home movies to iTunes, nothing happens.  The new additions do not show up in iTunes.  I try dragging the files to the Movies area of iTunes, a blue frame appears around the area, but when I let go of the files, nothing happens, nothing gets added to my iTunes library.
Can't Apple's iTunes software read files created by Apple's iMovie software?

I get the little box but if I mark the clip, and click okay, the window dissappear and nothing happens. I've underwent somewhat drastic measurements now, I'm currently re-installing iTunes. I can watch all movies, if that's what you mean
After I've re-installed iTunes, it finally works. Thank you all who tried to help me =)

  • How do I Play videos from external hard drive on Apple TV2?  Can I just move the iTunes Library to the External Hard Drive?

I have several HD videos stored on an external hard drive and would like to bring them into iTunes and play them via iTunes on my Apple TV2, but I am not sure how to go about it.  I don't want to store the movies on my iMac hard drive because it would eat up to much space...so do I just move the iTunes Library to the external hard drive?  And, if so...will the Apple TV2 find the iTunes Library on the external hard drive?  Thanks for any help anyone can suggest.

iTunes content on an external drive isn't a problem.
The simplest method is to just move your library to an external drive.
If you wanted to keep just movies on an external drive, that's a little more difficult. You'd need to put the movies where you want them to reside on the external drive and add drag and drop them onto iTunes while holding down the option key. Obviously any movies already in iTunes would need moving from their current location and removing from iTunes first.

  • HT4095 Can I download movies from iTunes to my iPad and watch them on line as well in case I don't have my iPad with me.

I have a 16gig iPad mini with latest iOS software.
Please can anyone advise on the following.
If I buy a movie on iTunes, can I download it onto my iPad and keep it there?
If I then delete it, can I download it again free?
If I do not have my iPad with me, can I watch it online through iTunes?

The film will need to be downloaded in order to watch it, you can't stream it from the store. Whether you can re-download a film will depend upon what country that you are in and whether it remains in the store (studios occasionally remove them). You are better off keeping your own backup copy of all of your downloads rather that relying on being able to re-download from the store in the future (you can copy purchases from your iPad to your computer's iTunes via File > Devices > Transfer Purchases)
    What can be re-downloaded where : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5085
You can also get wifi-enabled drives which allow you to stream your content to your iPad, so not everything needs to be stored on it e.g. GoFlex Satellite (there are other makes as well).

  • Can't transfer movie from itunes library onto ipod

I recently downloaded a movie from itunes onto my laptop. When I tried to manually drag the movie from the library to my ipod i got the following message" The ipod is currently linked to another itunes library. In order to copy the movie to this ipod, you must link this ipod with this itunes library. Doing this will remove 24 tv shows from this ipod. How can I get the movie onto my ipod without erasing the tv shows?

Make sure "Manually manage Music and videos" box is checked under Summary tab.
If the box is already checked and you are still not able to drag it over, highlight the video in movie library and go to iTunes menu ADVANCED and select "Create iPod or iPhone version".  Drag the newly created version over.

  • Can't drop movie into iTunes

I have a AVI-movie. The video track is "Generic MPEG-4" and the sound track is "ATSC A/52 and AC-3 Decoder".
I can play the file with QuickTime-Player but can't drop it into iTunes library.
    Whats wrong?

Video files MUST be in the right format to be used on video and iphone devices.
I was only able to get a few videos myself onto my player.
Google term "IPOD" video file format"
