Can't rename my computer and start new TM backup
Three techs at Apple have not been able to help me.
I have been backing up a PowerBook G4 and MacBook to a TC wirelessly, and now the MacBook BU stopped working but the PB continues OK. The sparsebundles are different sizes; PB 115 GB, MB 151 GB. After many gyrations with my MB sparsebundle, all unsuccessful, the tech suggested I start fresh with new computer name for my MB (the old name was firstname lastname's computer). So my new computer name is firstnameMacBook. After preparing to do a backup for more than an hour I get the error message "The backup disk image could not be mounted". Same error message I had when my MB BU stopped working. So a name change had no effect. Should I change the name of the existing old sparesbundle? Should I delete it? How? What?

Sorry. I should have been clearer. I was just wondering if it was ok to do so.
I had taken my partners computer. Re-installed Leopard, then when I went to do the time machine backup it just started using the original sparse bundle that was technically my partners. I wasn't sure how to get it to start another and wanted to check first if it was ok the rename a sparse bundle?
For interest sake. I did rename the original bundle and this forced the Macbook to start a new sparse bundle.
I wanted to keep the original sparse bundle that was my partners in case we had any trouble with my partners new computer set up and migration.
Hope that all makes sense now.

I have lots of clients that are not able to log on to both wired and wireless networks, and they always fails with these errors.

This is with certificate authentication, both for client and for machine.
The clients are for the most part Windows 7.
We use both Cisco and Aerohive for wireless, and the switch I have tested with is a Cisco2960S
A few strange things:
It works perfectly for a lot of clients too, with the excact same configuration.
One PC I'm testing with works fine when authenticating via wireless, but when I plug it into the switch, I get these errors.
I seems to be a timeout of some kind, either to short or too long, but where?
In the Win7 supplicant?
In the switch?
In the Cisco WLC
or in the Aerohive AP?
I have spent hours and hours on this problem, but I can't make it go away, it is very exhausting.
There surely must have been others with the same problem?

What timers are we talking about here? There are many to choose from..
The problem is still here, even with the latest patch 7 for ISE 1.2. It works fine on wireless, but not with wired, from the same computer. So it is logic to assume it has something to do with the switch.

can anyone tell me if i update my iphone to the new ios5 will it erase all of my personal things on it if i use a new computer and a new itunes that has nothing on it? or will the back up save all my music and pictures and stuff like that? thanks
I had to go through this today (got a new computer recently). I ended up pluggng in my phone to the new computer and then doing a sync and a backup, and Image Capture to get all your pics just in case. Then I did an update check wnen iOS 5 became active and it said that it was going to erase everything and I hit OK. And after that install was complete, I did "restore from backup" which said it would restore everything that was backed up except the new iOS 5 firmware (that stayed put). Just a few tweaks here and there and it all worked for me.

Downloading previously purchsed music from iCloud is based on your iTunes ID, not your iCloud ID. (It uses "iTunes in the Cloud", which has nothing to do with your iCloud account, just your iTunes ID.)
If you are using a different iTunes ID on your iOS devices than the one you used to purchase the music, you'll have to sync the music to your devices using iTunes. If they are using the same iTunes ID, you can download the music to your devices as explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2519. -
i have an ipod touch 8gb model number MA623LL. How do I install apps on my ipod? Is it capable of transferring/running apps? Why doesn't my ipod touch have the basic-beginning app on the beginning screen after i erased/wiped my ipod and started new?
Googling shows that you have the 1G iPod. For apps you need at least iOS 2. The iG can go as far os 3.1.3 that you get here:

Just be aware that there are presently not that many apps that work with a 1G with iOS 3.1.3 -
I have a slow startup or login, with numerious spinning wheels. Sometimes after a long ti,e I can sign into the computer and sometimes it just fails to startup or login. I have a MacBookPro OS X 10.7.5 from 2011. It became more serious recently as I think I might have let my battery run out I also tried to download the operating system to reinstall it but it allways stops around 1.4 GB out of 1.7 then the whell starts again.
Keep the MBP attached to the power adapter.
First try SMC and PRAM resets:

Then try to boot the MBP in recovery (OPTION key down) and select the recover partition. Select Disk Utility>First Aid and verify and repair the HDD.

since you have a Late 2011 model, you can use OS X Internet Recovery to start fresh.
First, you’ll need to completely erase your internal disk. Boot your MacBook Pro into Recovery mode by holding down a Command key and the R key as it starts up. Once the Mac OS X Utilities menu appears, select Disk Utility. On the left-hand side of the Disk Utility window, select your internal disk (typically the first item in the list). On the right-hand side, click on the Erase tab. In the Format dropdown menu, select “Mac OS Extended (Journaled)”; in the Name textbox, enter a name for the reformatted volume (“Macintosh HD” is typical). Press the Erase… button, and erase your disk. When the erasure is completed, exit Disk Utility and select Shutdown from the Apple menu.
The next time that you start up, OS X Internet Recovery will download your MacBook Pro’s original version of OS X (either 10.7.2 or 10.7.3) from Apple’s servers, and then install it. When it finishes, you’ll again see the welcome video just like when you first got it. Fill in your relevant information as you did the first time, and when you log in for the first time, run Software Update to get back to 10.7.5. -

I'm sorry you're having issues with your e-mail account on your phone Rusty1112. Let's figure out what's going on. First, please try deleting account/information again and then restart phone. When phone is back on, try adding e-mail account again, and be sure you're entering exactly as you set up, meaning its case-sensitive. If you're still getting same error, please let us know and let us know what e-mail account it is, Yahoo, AOL, MSN, etc.

Is there anyway to restore an iphone to new from a different computer and then use a backup from the cloud? At&t said that they unlocked the phone but that it needs to be reset in itunes and retored for it to work. However, I do not have access to my computer as I am overseas and need to put a new sim card in. Anyone had this problem and know a way to go around this?
If you have an backup on iCloud. You can restore via iTunes (on every computer) or via your iPhone itself.
And yes, you can restore the backup via iCloud.
To set iPhone to new do this: Settings > General > Reset > Erase all data and Reset all Settings.
It take a while. But after this, you can restore backup via iCloud. -
I am trying to sign into iCloud and I am informed "THIS APPLE ID IS VALID BUT IS NOT AN iCLOUD ACCOUNT". Which makes no sense to me. But in the mean time I have purchased some songs and I can't get them on my ipod nana because I can't sign in. Can I delete this ID and start over?????
OK, I just click the "cloud" in my itunes account and re-synced my ipod nano and I now have the songs I bought, this was really a stupid venture. But I am now enjoying my purchases on my ipod. SORRY TO HAVE TAKEN UP THE SPACE

I can not delete my history and adding new bookmarks.
Upgrading to later Firefox versions and/or re-installing didn't rectify it either.
The address bar still shows the web addresses of old and whenever I make new bookmarks, it's always gone as if it was never made.
Also, I have noticed that every once in awhile you can not close tabs you've opened, either by pushing on the X button and/or clicking on the mouse to close it. Although closing the window and opening it again (without closing the Firefox application) seemed to rectify the problem in the short term, it's becoming quite annoying.

Don't delete the file, just delete the information in the file. My file has over 3600 websites, which go back years!! I did not know they were there, but I was frustrated about not being able to get rid of them. They popped up every time I used the address bar. Clearing my history would not get rid of them.
This is where they are stored!! I found that by deleting the pesky web site from '''moz_hosts''', it does not appear in my address bar anymore!!!
I think that if I just delete all the websites in moz_hosts....

As long as you don't delete the file, just empty it, FireFox won't know the difference. It will just keep adding websites to it until you empty it again.
Why running "clear recent history" doesn't do this, I don't know. You are doing manually what "clear recent history" is not doing.
Please tell me if you see any flaw in this.

I can't unlock my ipod nano 4th generation. The screen is still working, I can sync to my computer and I can see when it is charging but it stays in the mode of being locked even after I unlock it at the top. What could be wrong?

can't get my epson sx535wd to work. my epson will get contact with my router (sitcom wl306) and my mac is on wifi, but they can't connect. epson can't find the computer and my report says: there are conflicting channels on my router or entry point. please help
OK, let's try these................
1 - Boot up from your install DVD and run "Repair Disk" from the Utility menu. When done, restart back to your desktop, repair permissions and restart your computer. Re-connect your printer.
2 - Download & install the Gimp drivers. Make sure the one you install is compatible w/your OS-Gutenprint 5.2.8-pre1. Repair permissions, restart your computer & re-connect your printer when done.
The Epson model I have, in order to get it to print wirelessly, I had to install a Gimp driver.

If still unsuccessful after trying all of the above, the problem could be your iBook or human error. You can either call Epson & ask to speak with a Mac savy supervisor or return the printer & find another that is compatible w/your current OS.
