Can't rename/name events in iPhoto

Hi all, please help if you can
I'm a proficient mac user and I installed iPhoto 08 and have never been able to change or name events in iPhoto. I called mac support they don't know. I have reinstalled the software, tried starting a new library, I have updated to latest (yesterday's) update.
I also tried moving my library to the root so as to eliminate any permission errors.
I thought it was a bug but mac support guy confirmed it can be done.
Anyone have any ideas?
Hayley

Make sure that the HelveticaNeue font is installed and active on your computer. Also, have a read of this: it's written for the iMac, but the trick will work equally on your MBP

  • Can't rename any events in iphoto 8.0

I can access the titles but it won't let me type anything.

See this thread: Can't edit 'Event name' in iPhoto
. It discusses several ways to do that.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • I can't see my events from iPhoto (11 - 9.3.1). Only one event is in my library (the first one). The others events disapear!!

I can't see my events from iPhoto (11 - 9.3.1). Only one event is in my library (the first one) and the last import that I made in iphoto is the first one . The others events disapear!! What can be happen? Please, someone could help me?

I tried to do shift + alt + command - option
    That's not what I suggested...
Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto.
Restore from your back up is the easiest solution.

There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:
You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Command-Click for selecting multiple pics.
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
(Note the above illustration is not a Finder Window. It's the dialogue you get when you go File -> Open)
You can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
There's a similar option in Outlook and many, many other apps.  If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
If you want to access the files with iPhoto not running:
For users of 10.6 and later:  You can download a free Services component from MacOSXAutomation  which will give you access to the iPhoto Library from your Services Menu.
Using the Services Preference Pane you can even create a keyboard shortcut for it.
For Users of 10.4 and 10.5 Create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser
    Other options include:
Drag and Drop: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
File -> Export: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
Show File:  a. On iPhoto 09 and earlier:  Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.    3.b.
b: On iPhoto 11 and later: Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Reveal in Finder -> Original. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.

  • Why can I not rename an event in iphoto?  It keeps reverting to "untitled event!"

Every time I upload photos to iphoto and it creates a new event, I am somehow unable to rename that event.  I double click and delete the default label, "untitled event" and even as I type the new name it will immediately revert to say "untitled event."  This sometimes happens even at the same time as I type, like the computer and my own typing are fighting against each other.

    Try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder (Snow Leopard and Earlier).
or with Lion and Mt. Lion from the User/Library/Containers/com.apple.iPhoto/
    Data/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder
3 - reboot, launch iPhoto and try renaming again.
NOTE:  In Lion and Mountain Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.

  • How can I add albums/events on iPhoto (for iPad)?

Using only my iPad (if possible), how can I create new albums and events on iPhoto?

Use the Photo app on your iPad to create and name a new album.

The new album will appear in iPhoto for iOS.

  • I can no longer search events on iPhoto

Why has phono changed so you no longer can search through events and only photos? I now have to scroll through 100's of photos to find the one I want. How can I get the event search back? This is not good!!!!!

First make sure this checkbox is checked in iPhoto's General preference pane:
What number is next to the Events icon in the left hand window?
When you click on the Events icon in the left hand pane what do you see in the right hand window?

  • Script to rename multiple events in iPhoto.

    Hi.
I use iPhoto 9.6 on Yosemite, MacBook pro 2011. . I have a bunch of unnamed events that I'd like to export to a backup disk. When I do so, the events are named according to dates in the format "July 28, 2015", for example. However, I'd like to use instead the format "2015-07-28", but I'd like to avoid having to rename the individual events manually. (I know how to use the batch function to rename the photo titles individually in this manner, but that is not what I want.)
Can anybody offer a solution to this? Eg using Automator/AppleScript or something else.
    Thx.
    S

I'm still quite new to this, but I think this would do the trick based on what you've supplied, note the -whatif so it doesn't screw up if the output isn't quite what you want.
    [xml]$fileinfo = Get-Content -Path .\fileinfo.xml
    foreach ($doc in $fileinfo.ABC_TitleDocument) {
    $filepath = $doc.ABC_TitleDocumentProperties.ContentElements.ContentTransfer.ExternalRef -creplace "file://",""
    $fileext = (Get-Item -Path $filepath).Extension
    $newfilepath = "$($doc.ABC_TitleDocumentProperties.DocumentTitle)_$($doc.ABC_TitleDocumentProperties.ABC_DocumentID)$fileext"
    Rename-Item -Path $filepath -NewName $newfilepath -WhatIf

  • I can't rename an event

    I'm using FCPX 10.0.5.
I created an event to import some old video using firewire. The event was named "New Event 1-10-14". I want to change this name. I can't. I select it and right-click and I don't see a "rename" option. I searched for help and it suggested I click on it and type a new name or hit return, I just get an error tone and nothing happens.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks

I went to App Store Purchases. I see that I have several apps that can be updated. I tried clicking on one (Pixelmator) and it told me my OS X was too old. I clicked on Evernote and it told me to sign in with the account I used to purchase it. Hu? I only have one Apple ID acount. I clicked on Store -> View my account and it poped up a login dialog. I entered my password, then tried again. Got this:
Any suggestions on what is going on? I only use/have this one account that I've had for ever...
    Thanks

  • How can I rename Folders/events

    Hello,
I finally decided to import my old MiniDV library into iMovie (about 20 tapes). I used the "automatic" setting to import entire tapes and just named them "Tape 1", "Tape 2", etc. figuring (perhaps naively) that I'll just rename each individual event within all those tapes at a later time. Now I can't figure out quite how to do it (I'm using iMovie '09).
I sure hope there's a way to do this... otherwise, all I have are events like: "Tape 15, Day 14".
    Any help much appreciated!

This can be done easily, but you must do it from within iMovie. You should see your events in the Event Library List. Click on the name and you should get a blue edit box.
I usually give mine a descriptive name and a reference to the tape, like Labor Day 2003 - DV 023.
You don't have to append a date, because if your metadata is intact, iMovie will sort it into the proper date for you.

  • Can I rename a file in iPhoto '08?

I have a few pictures that have to be specified as to what the picture is of and I do not know how to rename the actual file. Can this even be done? Please help.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. You may edit the title in iPhoto to what you want the new file name to be and then export that file via the File->Export->File Export menu with the option selected to use the Title as the new file name.

  • Can you edit the "events" in iPhoto on your ipad?

I've finally figured out how to sync iPhoto from MacBook to iPad, now I'm having trouble editing the photos in the albums or events. Seems like I can only move them around on my computer but can't move any photos on my ipad. Is there a way that I can organize these on my ipad? First world problems I know but since I have more time on the iPad it just makes sense that I arrange them in here. Any help is appreciated, thanks!

There isn't an Aperture or iPhoto app for the iPad (it comes with a basic Photos apps which is effectively just a viewer), and the photo editing apps that do exist are fairly basic : cropping, brightness, rotation, straightening etc e.g. the free Photoshop Express app from Adobe (which also has an in-app purchase option). You can use the iPad for reviewing photos but if you tend to do extensive editing then it's probably not suitable.

  • Can I make sub-events in iPhoto? Can I delete originals of imported photos?

    1) Is there any way I can make sub-events? I have pictures of family members, grouped by one event per member. Is it possible to have a Family event, and then sub events for each member? Is this better addressed through albums?
    2) When I download an image from the web to my hard drive and later import it to iphoto, can I delete the originally saved file without affecting the image's place in iphoto?
    Thank you for your help,
    Conrad

No - there are no sub events - events are time based not subject based
Is this better addressed through albums?
Yes - or keywords and smart albums - what you want is a family folder with albums (smart or otherwise) for each member
    2) When I download an image from the web to my hard drive and later import it to iphoto, can I delete the originally saved file without affecting the image's place in iphoto?
Yes - assuming that you are using the default (and highly recommended) "copy items to the iPhoto library" preference being checked (if it is not then you can not delete the "original")
It is not a bad idea to back up your originals and also you should make regular backups of the iPhoto library - and use Old Toad's library6.iPhoto database file backup very often while you are loading and editing photos

  • Can't open an event in iPhoto

I have a large collection of photos and mpeg videos stored in iPhoto (12,000 plus items) on my iMac. For the past week or so, I've been unable to click on the event in the iPhoto collection and then see the photos in that particular event. I've tried rebuilding my iPhoto Library to no avail. Does anyone no of a solution, or have you heard of a problem like this?

What do you see when you click on the Event? Also can you see the photos in the Photo mode? In the Photos mode do you have Event Titles selected in the View menu so they display? That will let you find the event you want and see if you can see the photos there.
Try the basic fix first: close iPhoto, delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder, launch iPhoto and see if that helps.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • Can't delete Untitled Event in iPhoto '09

In my iPhoto Library under Photos I have 2 Untitled Events. I renamed them Untitled 1 and Untitled 2. Neither contains any photos and when you go to Events neither of them is showing there. The problem is it won't allow me to deleted these 2 Untitled events. Right-clicking and the "Move to Trash" option is grayed out and CMD+Delete doesn't work either. Help?

Got it. These 2 events previously had pictures downloaded off my camera on different dates. Some pics got moved to other folders while some pics got deleted. I went into the iPhoto trash bin and emptied it...both Untitled Events disappeared!
