Can't rent a move

Hey Folks. I just got my Apple TV and I thought I'd rent a movie. But it doesn't seem to work. I click that I want to rent it, put in my password and all that, then it goes to the accessing iTunes store screen. The wheel spins for a while, then it says "unable to sign in. apple tv could not connect to the server. try again later." .. I know I have my password right. the itunes store is working fine if I go to in it on my pc. it's just for some reason I can't connect to the store to rent the movie.
has this happened to anyone else? Is there really a network or server issue or is it me?

Apple TV keeps asking my for my 3digit  Credit Card verification code and I punch it in, it still asks me for it, and went to my computer on iTunes store, checked the code, all is set and saved, go back to Apple TV still can't rent a movie, I still get the same Verification Required message without any further information after I punch in my 3digits. When I hit submit, the page goes back to the same place to type the code again, and yes the code is 100% accurate. I tried restoring the apple tv, every thing is up to date on all devices and signed in and out of my itunes store on my Mac, still no luck. Please help!

This issue actually started a week ago... see: https://discussions.apple.com/message/23399558#23399558
to determine if there are the same problems you are experiencing.  I have spent over 6 hours on this issue trying to isolate if it is a hardware, software, network, iTunes account, or Apple device issue.  My initial results indicate it is a software specific issue related to the Apply TV hardware device.

  • Why I can't rent a movies in iTunes I'm using ipad2 and if I view movies in ITunes it's not available in emiraristore

Why I can't rent a movies in iTunes I'm using ipad2 and if I view movies in iTunes it's not available in migrating store

If you live in a country where the feature is not available, you will not be able to rent movies. Not all iTunez content is available worldwide.
You can see what is available where you live here.

Did you already ask this question earlier today and were you not told this already? Your screen name looks familiar and so does the question.

  • Can I rent a movie in iTunes and then watch it in my car where I don't have an Internet connection?

Just wondering how to download a movie on the iPad and then take it in the car or on a plane and watch it... Is it possible to rent a movie on iTunes and then watch it elsewhere, where I don't have access to Internet?

Absolutely.  You can rent or buy a movie in iTunes and once downloaded to your iPad, watch it without internet access.  You can do this directly on your iPad.  Open iTunes on your iPad.  Browse, then buy or rent what you want.  Once downloaded, your purchase will appear in your Video App, which was preloaded on your iPad.

  • Can't rent certain movies

Unusual error. I can't rent "The Orphanage" on either Apple TV or iTunes. It gives me error 5002. However, other movies rent fine from both iTunes and Apple TV. Is there something wrong with Apple's servers?

Thanks for your reply, but I kind of think you're missing the point slightly. Apple markets the whole itunes store concept as being content ON DEMAND. That's the point in question surely - that it's the alternative to having to go to a regular store... quicker and more convenient. You shouldn't have to wait overnight/days/weeks to get a movie.
And as far as your argument for having a run of bad DVDs is concerned, I'm not the only one with this complaint about this specific title. Upon the most cursory of investigation its revealed that this particular problem with this particular film has been going on for a while - i wouldn't expect an overnight solution. However, 24 hours is a long time in the apple store. And come on, let's talk straight here - encoding a title shouldn't take weeks - not unless we're using a very.....slow.....computer....... This isn't some mom and pop outfit - its the apple store for goodness sake - all it would take would be a quick email or phone call to the respective studio and I betcha it'd be up and running in next to no time.
Regardless, The Orphanage is on the movies homepage advertised as a top new title. It shouldn't be on display if it's unavailable. Let's say I were to follow your advice and head off to a regular store and found a film advertised for purchase and it was damaged and/or not available, I think there might be some trade/consumer law which would prevent this from happening. False advertising. That kinda thing.
Look, this isn't the end of the world. nobody died. But if there's a genuine problem there should be an explanation for it, not some generic error code. It smacks of laziness on the part of Apple, is very frustrating to the customer and leaves you feeling peeved and needing to vent!!!!
Phew, that's better. Now, where's that movie so that I can scare myself.

  • HT1657 Can i rent a movie and then watch it without a wi-fi connection???

i want to know if i can rent a movie from the itunes store and watch it on an airplane???

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
From my own personal experience, I have found that when I turn off the Wi-Fi on my Wi-Fi only iPad, I am still able to play rented movies on it. I have tried this perhaps four or five times and in each case, this has been the result. I have also noted that other users have had the same experience as I.
However saying that I have noted a small number of users that have stated they are unable to view rented movies without an Internet connection. This knowledge base article from Apple, also suggests that an Internet connection is required.

  • HT1390 it is asking me some security questions which i really dont remember answering when i first installed itunes, how can i rent a movie when its asking me questions i have no answers for?

i dont understand how i can be asked questions i have no answers for, could someone please let me know how i can rent a movie without the questions? thanks,

    Hey scoops13
You will need to be able to answer the question to go through with the rental. Once they have been answered you should not be asked again. The article below will explain about the security questions and what to do if you cannot remember the answers to the questions.

  • HT1657 Can I rent a movie now and watch it on an airplane without an Internet connection?

Once you rent the movie from itunes, does it down load to your device so you can watch it later without a wifi connection?

It will download onto the device or computer that you rent it on. If you are doing it on your iPad, then as long as it has completed downloading to the Videos app then you should be able to watch it without being online

  • HT1657 Can I rent a movie here in Canada now on my home wifi and then take my computer to the Dominican Republic and watch it in a few days where there is no internet?

I guess I'm wondering if it will download now and the movie be on my PC for the next 30 days until I start to watch it? Or will I need internet access while I'm away to watch it.
I'd rather rent now and not buy it.

As far as I know rentals can only be downloaded once, I think that it's just bought films that can be re-downloaded (which isn't possible in all some countries).

  • How can I rent a movie from iTunes and watch it on my MacBook w/o being connected to internet?

Trying to figure ot how to rent movies from iTunes and watch w/o being connected to web. The dude at the apple store said that when I download it I can designate if I want it downloaded to my device (ie: MacBook) or my Cloud...but I don't see that option being given. Any help? Traveling Tues and I'd like to get a few movies set for my trip.

    Just sync your iPad.

  • HT1657 Can you still rent a movie on iTunes? It only says purchase

Can you rent a movie or only purchase now

It depends on what the copyright holder allows Apple to do with it.

  • HT1657 Why can't we rent certain movies, such as warhorse, or money ball??  They are already out on DVD... will we ever be able to rent them?

Just wondering why we can't rent certain movies off ITunes store, when those movies are already out on DVD - will we ever be able to rent them?

Apple needs to have permission from the copyright holder to make them available.
