Can't rent movies  Apple TV not communication iMac Error 5002

So what is going on with iTunes? I tried to rent movies on my Apple TV only to be told that iTunes was not communicating with Apple TV and to try later. Ran diagnostic check on AppleTV and restarted it with no change. Tried to rent the same movies on my iMac and was told to try again later and received Error Code 5002.
I can't seem to go more than a couple of days without some kind of problem with AppleTV and iTunes. I guess it's time to buy a Roku because Apple doesn't seem to want my money.

Yep - I'm having it too. I can purchase all the MUSIC that I want - but when I try to purchase/rent a movie I get the dreaded 5002 error. However, I must say, unlike others here - this is the 4th time in 3 months that I have encountered this error. Very frustrating. Tried to get in touch with Tech Support, but they have no phone number and no chat - e-mail only. And since this is going into the weekend, we won't hear back until Monday. (that's how long it took last time it happened to me on a Friday back in April)
Bummer, makes me wonder why I just don't get a Verizon phone instead of an iPod

  • Can't rent movies/tv shows on apple tv and iphone

I've just recently updated my apple id to my current email address.  All of my purchases show up with no issues.  However, now, I can't rent movies or tv shows from my Apple TV and my Iphone (I can purchase music on my Iphone with no issue).  I've even performed a restore on my Apple TV with no luck.  I can rent them with no problem on my MacBook Pro. I'll wait for the download to complete and AirPlay from my Iphone to my Apple TV.  Netflix, Home Sharing and all other services function just fine.  All devices are on the same WiFi network as well.  Even running the System Status report, everything's in the green.  I'm frustrated and lost on how to correct this issue.  All seem to work fine before updating my email address which has me thinking there was a glitch with that. Please help!!!

I actually had to go to the Genius Bar to get this solved. They made some adjustment, reloaded iTunes, and then it worked.  Sorry, I can't tell you exactly what they did.

If you are positive it's not actually a 5G iPod Video, then you should be able to.

  • HT1657 I live in switzerland and I can only rent movies in german language. Is there a way to change the language to the original language when renting?

I live in Switzerland and I can only rent movies in german language...is there a way to change the language of the movie I rent from Itunes back to original language?

    Hi Zanaro,
It is an Apple isuue same as when you want to buy or download from the iTunes store.
I bought and registered (also credit card from Australia) mi iPhone 4s
Now when I came to Switzerland I should have NOT used my Australian details but registered everything here in Switzerland with Swiss credit card and probably a swiss email account.
My problem is opposite to yours, I can only download movies in English!!!!
What Apple could have done at least is give an option on undertittles so at least some movies are understud. It is no problem for myself but when I have friends over that do not understand the language we have problems.
I have had talks in Apple stores in Zuerich also in smaller Apple outlets, they all know about it as it is a common not problem but nuicance with Apples.
I hope I could shed some light to your problems but I think we can only hope that Apple will change theyr attidude to this **** situation.

  • Can i rent movies to my ipad directly

Can I rent movies to my Ipad directly, or do I need to rent through my computer and transfer to my ipad??

Sure.  I do it regularly.  There is one minor difference...
If you download to the computer, you get to choose which IOS device you will use to watch it.  If you download directly to your IOS device (iPad), you've already made your choice.

Can a Rented movie be seen without internet conection?

Yes.  An internet connection is only required when transferring a rental from your computer to or from an iDevice.  I watch them all the time on my iPad on airliners without an internet connection.

Just as a preventative measure try running Disk Utility in the Utilities Folder inside the Applications Folder. Run Repair Disk Permissions on the whole hard drive.
According to this disuccsion group posting on MacRumours.com, Error -50 is a permissions error and repairing permissions may be enough to get you going again:

Why I can`t see the apple tv in my iMac ?

Are you trying to mirror your Mac to your Apple TV? Airplay Mirroring is supported on only the following Macs:
    iMac (Mid 2011 or newer)
Mac mini (Mid 2011 or newer)
MacBook Air (Mid 2011 or newer)
MacBook Pro (Early 2011 or newer)

  • Movies rented on Apple TV, not synching back to iTunes?

I thought I understood that movies you rent from the Apple TV 2.0 would synch back to iTunes and be available to watch on the Macintosh or from there could be synched to a current iPod for viewing. (For 24 hours once the movie is started on any device, or for 30 days which ever comes first.)
I took the Apple provided update to Apple TV (40GB) so now I am on version 2.0. I took the iTunes update to 7.6. My Apple TV seems to sync just fine with my iTunes library, i.e. otherwise couldn't be happier with the product.
I launched iTunes on my Mac; my Apple TV appeared as a device and then went back to my TV and rented a movie directly from Apple TV interface and watched it immediately. That process went just as Apple described it should, i.e. very smooth. However, immediately after watching the movie, I checked iTunes for rented movies (devices: Apple TV, Movies tab, and didn't see it. In the Rented movie section of the screen it said, "There are no rented movies in your iTunes library that can be transferred to this Apple TV." This is correct, but I just thought somewhere I would see the movie I had rented from the Apple TV within my iTunes. I tried proactively hitting the synch button; nothing. Went to the Movies library; nothing.
Perhaps I misunderstood the process as described by Apple (Steve Jobs 2008 MacWorld keynote) and the process really doesn't work in the ATV to iTunes direction. But I'm hoping there is something simple I missed in my settings in either iTunes or Apple TV to enable this to work.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you so much! I was under the wrong impression about moving movies rented on the Apple TV back to the computer. The forum has come through for me three out of three times I have posted question. Thanks again!
*Can I play my rental on more than one device?*
If you download a rented movie on your computer, you can transfer it to your Apple TV, iPod, or iPhone. Once you move the movie from your computer to a device, the movie will disappear from your computer's iTunes library. You can move the movie between devices as many times as you wish during the rental period, but the movie can only be viewed on one device at a time. *If you rent the movie on your Apple TV, it is not transferable to any other device and you must watch it on your Apple TV.*

  • I can't rent movies on itv??

I purchased 2 apple itvs.. One for myself and one for my folks. I purchased these because there are no video rental outlets close to our areas. I installed the unit and everything works netflix, utube, radio. All updates have been done and unit was set up.. I tried wireless which worked fine and later I hardwired it to the router. I have tried to rent movies (this is what I got this for..) All I get is "An error occurred loading this content" I rented The Rite and another movie... I trieds for four nights to play the movie (20 times a night) and I get the same message.. I contacted itunes and they reversed the charges on the movies and recommended that I try again... I tried to rent another movie with the same issues. I have tried to contact support.. They ask me for a serial number and when I enter it, it tells me it is not a good serial number (I assure you this is a genuine apple product) I have checked the number in "general" and on the unit.. I have entered the numbers in lower case and upper case with the same results. It seems the only thing I can use this for is netflix and utube... But my xbox plays netflixs and my Mac pro can do everything else.. Help!
I own iphone, macbook pro 17, and love them...... This itv is irking me...

    Good evening "Vazandrew"
I wanted to drop this note and let you know I have upgraded my internet to a faster service. I had a few issues with Telus.. But I was able to fix those issues on my own. I have been able to successfully rent movies and I wanted to thank you for pointing me in the right direction.
I must say I am unhappy with the technical support that Telus and Apple have. And as an trainer and advisor (in another field) this disappoints and fustraits me more, but I am pleased that people can help each other out.

  • Can't rent movies in iTunes 8.2.1 with release of iTunes 9

I started renting movies from the iTunes Store a few weeks ago. Especially when I became aware of the 99 cent movies of the week specials. I have rented about 20 movies in all so far and have enjoyed the feature so far.
With the announcement of the release of iTunes 9 today, I was eager to download the new version to try it out. I discovered on the download page that it does not work with G3 Macs (which mine is.)
Sad but perfectly happy with iTunes 8.2.1, I thought nothing more of it. A bit later, I got the fancy to check the 'Movies of the Week' to see what was new this week. When I tried to rent 'Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon', I was told that I could not rent it until I upgraded to the new version of iTunes. Already knowing I can't due to lack of G3 support, I moved onto other movies.
It now appear that if you are running iTunes 8.2.1, you can no longer rent movies from the iTunes Store. I clicked on some 20 different 'Rent movie' buttons and all gave the same result. I had to upgrade to rent it.
Searching the Apple.com site, I came up empty. Checking the web, in general, also yielded no answers. Anyone have any more info about this?

Great news / sad news time...
*NOTE: What I about to say is not supported by Apple as iTunes 9 was not designed to work on a G3 Mac. Your results may vary. Also, always have a viable backup of your iTunes Library before upgrading to a new version of iTunes just in case something happens or you don't like the new version. That way you can revert back easily like nothing happened.*
For those of you still running a G3, you may be able to run iTunes 9. I have a Summer 2001 iMac (DV SE) G3 700Mhz Mac; 16MG GPU. While Software Update didn't show the iTunes update and the download page said it required G4 or higher, I downloaded it anyway and installed it just for kicks. And... so far so good...
It does seem to run a bit slower which is to be expected. It was not made to run on G3 and it is more media intensive than iTunes 8.x but it does work fine and is very, very usable. I was able to rent movies again and just updated both my iTouch and iPhone to 3.1 (3.1.1 for the iTouch)
There are features you won't be able to use due to hardware requirements. In my case, I don't play any video on my computer as any video (streamed or on hard drive) studders and skips too much to be viewable. I transfer all video (music videos, rented movies and purchased movies) to my iPhone and watch it on the TV.
I like the new features and am glad it works. The other sad thing about it working but not being 'officially' supported is that a future update may not work. Now I know how the jailbreakers feel...
But at least I got this far. Yea!
FYI for those out there rockin' the G3!

  • ITunes states I can only rent movies from my Canadian account.  I am in the US and want to rent a movies on my AppleTV.

I am unable to rent a movie on my AppleTV.  I get a statement that I can only rent from the Canadian account, yet I am in the US.
    Options?

your Apple ID is bound to the country it is registered.
Your option would be either create an additional Apple ID that is for USA, or change the country of the current one
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1311
If you decide to change the current ID - you will be prompted to update your billing information, therefore you have to have an address in USA and since you would like to purchase/rent - you may need a credit card that is issued in USA.
