Can't repair, uninstall, reinstall or update
Help.
i've spent hours on this. every time i plug my ipod in, it tell me that quicktime needs updating and would i like to do it now. yes, i would! then i could also update itunes. However, it comes to a complete stop somewhere in the quicktime install and then ultimately tell me to finish later. but no matter if i want to finish the install, repair it, uninstall it, reinstall or update it, it tell me that another installation is in progress and i have to complete that before continuing this one. help!! please!! i'm at a total loss and i mean it when i say i've spent way too many hours on this. thank you to anyone willing to help.
okay, let's first reboot the PC. (trying here to shut down those running installation processes.)
now we'll try to remove your existing QuickTime.
Download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. then use it to clear any existing QuickTime installation configuration information from your PC:

Next, we’ll manually remove leftover program files and folders.
1. On the Start menu, click My Computer (or double-click My Computer on the Desktop).
2. In My Computer, open Local Disk.
3. Open Program Files.
4. Right-click on the QuickTime folder and click Delete from the shortcut menu.
5. Navigate to C:\Windows\system32\.
6. Remove the files QuickTime.qts and QuicktimeVR.qtx.
7. Restart your computer.
does an itunes/quicktime install go through now that the existing QT is out of the way?

Just a general question about Dism, does the cmd below only focus on serivce pack clearn up or I wont able to uninstall any windows updates at all after the clean up?

Can't sync / uninstall / reinstall BB DM v4.7 - Windows Vista error 1402.
I am running BlackBerry Desktop Manager v4.7 on Windows Vista Business. I was having no problems with the program until I downloaded the update that was recently published (build 59, date of publication 2009-06-05, size 111Mb). I downloaded this update through the Automatic Update feature in the program.
The update downloaded fine and went through the stages of installation until it stopped very near the end and gave me the following message:
Error 1402. Could not open key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\PDXlator.ConnectorManger\CLSID. Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel.
It then “rolled back” the installation and closed the installer. Since then my PC has not recognised my BlackBerry meaning I can no longer sync relegating my BlackBerry to the status of phone and nothing more. When I realised that my PC was not recognising my BB I tried to do a system restore but there were no dates available before the date of the attempted update installation.
I have tried to uninstall the software and it gives me the same error message (Error 1402). I have downloaded the newest version of the software directly from the RIM website and tried to install it over the old version with the same result - Error 1402. I then tried installing the program “For all users of this machine” this gave the following:
Error 1904.Module C:\Program Files\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\IS71 Connectors\ISGroupwise6.5.X\GW.dll failed to register. HRESULT -2147024891. Contact your support personnel.
I hit ignore and it gave me four or five other messages which were very similar.
After that it stated that it was registering the modules and stayed at about 98% (on the bar) for over 60 mins until I quit the install.
I have tried changing the permissions/deleting the registry key referenced in Error 1402 but that gives me a message saying:
CLSID cannot be opened:
An error is preventing this key from being opened.
Details: Access is denied
I have transferred the ownership of the key (identified in Error 1402) into my user profile and made sure I have all permissions but still nothing changes.
Also, I have tried all of the steps outlined above in the administrator account and nothing is different.
If anyone has any ideas of how I might be able to address this issue, it'd be very much appreciated.

I know how you feel. Frustrated as all hell I bet.
I managed to solve my problem by running a fix (I'll show below) however, you should know that doing this has unregistered my copy of MS Office! I can still use Office but it tells me that it is not a genuine copy and sends me to the MS website at every opportunity. For me this has been a worthwhile tradeoff (at this stage) but I wanted you to be fully informed before you try anything I suggest. I will try and reinstall Office again when I have time which should remove this issue, but no guarantees.

A couple of things with this fix:
Step 6, says that the tool will take "several minutes to run". It took well over an hour on my machine so don't exit too early thinking it's frozen.
And, there was one line of code in step 7 that I had to alter slightly but I can't remember which. Basically, when you are running the SubInACL in the DOS prompt you start typing the keys in and one wasn't recognised. I'm not 100% sure which one it was but I've highlighted the one I think I had to change.
- Navigate to the directory that the DLL files are in and register them.
Type cd C:\Program Files\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\IS71 Connectors\ISGroupWise6.5.X\ and hit enter.
Type regsvr32 gw.dll and hit enter
Type gwapi.dll and hit enter
Type cd C:\Program Files\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\IS71 Desktop Setup\ and hit enter
Type regsvr32 DesktopSetup_pb.dll and hit enter
Type C:\Program Files\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\IS71 Action Engine\ and hit enter
Type regsvr32 SyncAE_pb.dll and hit enter
I think I typed regwapi.dll instead and that workd for me.

Error 1721 on repair/uninstall/reinstall of Lenovo Solution Center Windows 8 64-bit
Hello,
I am seeking a solution to a problem with Lenovo Solution Center on a Lenovo W530 machine running Win 8 64-bit.
It was not updating the warrantee information, and so I attempted an install with the newest version of the program. It refused to uninstall. Lenovo support then decided that the best approach was to eliminate the directory containing the program.
Now I still have the program listed in my installed programs, but there is nothing I can do with it. It does not appear on my desktop (not surprisingly) but does not uninstall and using the new install package does NOT provide the option of install, but solely to uninstall or repair, neither of which works - giving the error 1721 message.
Next steps? (Tier 2 was to phone me over 1 week ago - no call....).

Go to Solution.After trying al the hints without effect, the last hint with the "MS FixIt"
-Tool finally solved the problem!!!!!
It found 2 older {xxxxxxxxxxxxxx} registry entries from 2 former manual
updates which caused the problem. I had to run it 2 times for removing all
error-causing problems.
After that ,the last version of the Lenovo Solution Center Windows 64-bit
package was able to install perfectly and is now running without any
problems .
This solution I was looking for the last 3-4 months!!!!!!!

Can not open / uninstall programs after updating n...
Hello guys, I'm new the forum but not products of Nokia. I have a nokia C7 and a few daysago I made last updated Nokia Belle. So far so good, if not by mistake, I used the programand I tampered Xplore sis and bin folders that you are confused. As soon as the phone hasproblems, I thought the hard reset would fix it and in part it was so, it was not for the fact that I can not access programs: Nokia store, Nokia maps, Shazam, Traveler, F -Secure, social, and probably others. I tried uninstalling Nokia store, but when I delete / uninstall nothing happens. Furthermore, the application screen is installed, all the others that work well are displayed with a red icon, while stores, social etc ... have a yellow icon. Please help me!
Perform a 3 finger reset. Be sure to backup your data as this will remove all your files. Also this will remove store, maps, social and many of the apps/services which should be available via software update client on your phone.
And a point of caution here - it worked in Anna, but not sure of belle. Or the next better option will be to take your phone to Nokia care where they'll be flashing your phone and reinstall the firmware.

Utilities can't repair/verify: reinstalled mavericks onto external HD, now what?
Friend installed mavericks, upon automatic restarting, the setup process said his disk is corrupted, he has no backups.
Disk utilities cannot repair/verify/backup onto external hd. (Tried several times INCLUDING in recovery mode)
Rebooted, ran setup and installed mavericks onto my external HD, setup computer like new.
Currently running MacBook off external hd using mavericks, can see the old HD, and repairing it using disk utilities didn't work.
What now? Backup HD onto external+erase+reinstall old osx using cd? IF SO, HOW?I upgraded to Mavericks 10.9.4 and Timemachine backed up to my 4T Gdrive on both my MacPro and Macbook Pro. 2 weeks later I try and back up on my laptop in Time Machine and it can not find the hard drive. I run Disk Utility and it says to repair disk. It then tells me it can not be repaired and I should reformat it. So I plug it directly(never a hub)into my desktop and boot it up in both Mavericks 10.9.4 as well as on my second harddrive in Lion 10.7.5 and both do not read the drive any longer. I found a handful of similar complaints on this discussion group with various external drives of different makes. I was also coming out Firewire 800 if that adds anything else to the pot. I am afraid to plug any other external drives in after this. I will buy another drive and dump evrything in the cloud as well but I after reading other posts, it seems to recur. I am not sure if anyone out there has figure this out yet. Thanks!

Can't repair disk permissions, System Updates wont install
Hi there,
I wondered, why any system update wont install on my MacBook Pro with Leopard 10.5.5. So I tried to repair disk permissions which causes an error that calls something like "there is an error in quitting the process" (sorry ... have only the german version, so this is nearly what it says).
Repairing the permissions from a Leopard DVD ends up the same way.
Repairing the harddisk works fine.
Updating the 10.5.5 Combo Update quits with an error that says "The Installation package couldn't install some of the files in "/". Contact the Manufacturer."
Any ideas what this could be ? Thought it startet a couple of days ago with the installation of a new Java Version, but I'm not sure if this causes any problems.

iTunes update 10.5.3 for Win7 64 bit will not install completely and does not recognize iPhone 4s. Error messages indicate components missing, and numerous efforts to repair, uninstall, reinstall have all failed. Error (-42404) is constant; any suggestions?
what if they are turned off? I cannot install iTunes or QuickTime Pro 7 on my WIN7/64 Lenovo W520. ran all the repair cycles uninstalls, reinstalls about 10X each, no luck

I've spent the best part of the day unpicking this huge mess from the upgrade I completed last night - what a nightmare. I followed a tonne of advice - [actaully, this link was really helpful to me]: http://pcsupport.about.com/od/findbyerrormessage/a/msvcr80-dll-not-found-missing -error.htm however, I still could not fix the **** thing - and that was following basically a day of uninstalling, installing etc.
In the end - I completed a system restore taking my computer back about five days, and just ignoring the new upgrade with itunes until they can get this fixed.
I hope that this might work for you and anyone else reading this. It nearly drove me to drink [!]. I seemed to get past one error message and have it replaced by another - so the system restore was basically the last resort.

When I started up itunes on my PC I get this error: a required itunes component is not installed. please repair or reinstall ituens (-42404). How can I fixed this? I uninstalled it at least 6 times. Not exactly sure what I'm suppose to repair either. It also says it is syncing my ipod but when I go to disconnect/eject my ipod it says that it is unable to disconnect because files are being used in a program. When it finally disconnects there is no music on my ipod. The gym just ***** with out my ipod. Makes it eiser to not go! Someone please help me!

Can't repair permissions nor reinstall OS 10.5.6 Combo Update
I can't repair the permissions (below), not even when I boot from the install-DVD or another drive; also not with Disk Warrior or as a new user.
I have then tried to install the latest Combo-Update 10.5.6; but I get the message that I can't install on this volume, because it doesn't mach the needs (or something like that ...). I have all software updates installed allready.
Has anyone an idea how to fix those permissions? I don't really want to reinstall the whole system ...

if you one-click on the 10.5.6 installer (cmd-i, info) have you read & write permission?
i FORGOT: since front-row and ilife '09 update the permissions are always shown as yours; this seems to be "normal" at the moment.
same was with some coreservices about one year ago ..
