Can't Reply or Send Forwards

I am connecting to the server fine using the connection wizard. It was working for weeks but now it will not let me forward e-mail or reply to some e-mails until I save it and exit out and reopen apple mail.
I have deleted the e-mail account but it still holds all the info when I go to recreate it.

Hi,
You may have more luck [posting here|http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=1223] (this is the 10.4 Mail forum, your profile indicates 10.5).

  • Can't reply or send

I am suddenly unable to reply or send mail. When I click on the buttons, nothing happens. When I attempt to type into the forward mail window I cannot. This happened days after my mail on old Powerbook Lombard cannot send or receive mail. The mail programs on both computers is going haywire.
I also use MaxBulk Mailer and now it crashes when I attempt to type the subject line. Can all this craziness be related?
I have run tech tool pro and disk warrior and they don't indicate any problems. Has anyone had a similar situation? Can I reinstall only the mail program from my Tiger DVD?
    Thanks for the help,

I don't know about MaxBulk Mailer, but that problem with Mail is usually caused by some Launch Services cache or preferences corruption. The following article describes how to manually reset Launch Services. The notes at the bottom of the article also provide information about the side effects of deleting each of the files involved.
    Resetting Launch Services
The following article also describes the side effects of cache cleaning:
Side effects of System cache cleaning
The following article provides links to some utilities that can be used for troubleshooting and cache cleaning:
Resolving Disk, Permission, and Cache Corruption
It seems that the most appropriate utility for solving this particular problem is Tiger Cache Cleaner.
In addition to the utilities mentioned above, you may also consider OnyX, which is free. If you want to try OnyX, after installing it, do this (be sure to read the articles about the side effects of cache cleaning first):
    1. Quit all applications.
    2. Launch OnyX and enter your administrator password.
    3. Click Maintenance. In the Reset section, check LaunchServices database.
    4. You may uncheck any other pre-checked options if you've already done them using other utilities.
    5. Click the Execute button.
If that doesn't solve the problem, you may try again checking the Links between documents and applications option in step 3 instead.
And yet another free cache cleaning utility is Cache Out X.
Please, let me know whether you were able to solve the problem, what worked for you and what didn't.

  • I can't send mail via hotmail. I can read new mail, but can not reply or send new messages.

I am using a mac powerbook, 2004 running MAc os x. Yes, I know it is old. But I only use if for e-mail. this week, I can't send or reply to messages via firefox or any other browser. I can't succesfully download updates. Can you advise?
    thanks

Go to Mail Preferences- Accounts and confirm you are providing Gmail what they require to send and receive mail. And DON'T specify Secure Socket Layer. Some mail accts don't like SSL
    Good Luck to you.

  • Can not attach files to email, can't reply to or forward selected emails.

I've seen others post this problem, but have not been able to find the solution. What has happened is I suddenly cannot attach any files... pdfs, jpgs, docs or anything to my emails. Also, when I hit the reply or forward button on some emails that I have received, nothing happens. On a few, a reply or forward window does open, but there is no rhyme or reason to why some work and some don't. At any rate, I can't attach any files to any of my mail.... new ones, ones I'm trying to reply to or anything. I've seen that others have had this problems occur, but I have not found a solution based on any of the replies. Oh! The other thing is that its only happening on one of my computers. I have an older G4 that has the same mail setup and everything works fine. Its only on my G5 that this happens. I've tried tossing some preferences as suggested from some of the other posts, but still the same. Help me!

    How crazy would it be...
OOPs, you don't want to ask me... I always resort to crazy things when nothing else works!
Quit Mail. First I'd backup your whole Mail folder. Right click on it, choose Archive. Move the Mail.zip to a safe place. Only the plist will be separate.
Try dragging this file to the Desktop, (in case we need to put it back), first, then logout/in, reconfigure your account required on this one...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist
If that doesn't work, now that you're all backed up & can get back where you are now... give it a rtry!

  • MAIL: Can't reply or send emails

Yesterday I bought an external hard drive and a scanner that I installed.
I copied a few GB worth of data to the new drive and manually deleted those files from my G4 (733MHZ). Since then my computer has been very slow but the worst problem is that I can't seem to use my MAIL program anymore.
I can't type more than Hi and then I will hear a DING go off as if I was doing something wrong. When I try to hit the REPLY button to reply any email it won't work. Same thing with the SEND BUTTON.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks
    Paulina

David have *janet* the answer to my problem a few entries back.
I installed OnyX and I am back in business. So far anyway.
    Thanks,
    Paulina

  • Can't Reply or Send New Messages?

My iphone has been working brilliantly, then out of the blue I am suddenly not able to reply to or send new email messages...any suggestions on how to resolve?

Okay - I got it working!!!!
Here's how: First update your ITunes to the latest version (in my case that was to 9.0.1). Then Update your iPhone software to the latest 3.1.0 (which recently came out in September 2009) ...
    That did it.
One side note: I had a weird problem downloading the software to my system... I kept getting a Quick Time.msi not found problem and Itunes not found, though I could go in through programs folder and open it. I eventually found the fix for this too... you have to look for "Install problem - Says feature is on an unavailable network resource ; Posted: Feb 11, 2008 6:18 PM" in Google Search and open the CACHED version. It's an archive Apple support folder... it tells you to download Windows Install Clean Up and then delete QuickTime and/or Itunes from there. (I could not delete from Add/Remove programs would get same error message.) ... Once i did this, I was able to update Itunes & QuickTime and then update my Iphone application. Now everything works, even DRAFTS that I lost showed up once I entered into my mail program on the iPhone!!!
    I'm so happy!
[i am going to repost this to another similar support question]

  • Can't Reply or Forward Messages

On my Palm Pre, WebOS 1.0.4, connected to a Zimbra-based EAS (Exchange ActiveSync) server, I receive messages, my calendar and address books sync fine, and I can send new messages to people, but I can't reply to or forward messages. They just sit in my Outbox. Usually. Every once in a while something will go through. I have begun to speculate that it may relate to the sender's name format, but I'm not sure that's true.
I don't believe this is a server-based problem, because everything worked fine on my previous phone, a Treo 750 on AT&T. We also have iPhone and BlackBerry users who don't have any problems.
I have not seen any posts on this. I've reset the phone and deleted and recreated my Exchange account on the Pre, but that has not helped. The fact that this isn't posted as a common problem encourages me that it may be something unique to my situation or something I'm doing wrong. On the other hand, it also worries me that it's not going to be addressed by an upcoming patch or WebOS 1.1.
Any suggestions? Is there any more information I can provide?
Thanks for any help. This is a real Pre-killing situation for me. I can't function without viable e-mail.
    Thanks,
    Colin

Also having email issues.  I used to be able to recieve and send mail through our outlook server.  Now I receive messaes, but cannot send.  It immediately reports it got an error trying to send and the message is stuck in my Outbox.  I tried dropping the user account and recreating it.  Interestingly, when I filled out all the login data, it said it could not verity my outgoing mail settings.  I did have an error.  I fixed it, and when I saved, it saved fine.  However, I still cannot send emails.  I got this phone to use for work, and this is killing me.

Sorry, I have no idea what you mean by '''"The Java plugin has created a time unfriendly issue with my e-mail account, I can not open or send any e-mail without using this plugin,"'''.
If you think your problem is caused by the Java plugin, you should visit the Java support forum for assistance.
    http://forum.java.sun.com/index.jspa
If you could explain what you mean by '''"time unfriendly''' issue with my e-mail account", maybe we'll be able to help you solve that issue.
It might be helpful for us if we knew exactly which web-mail provider you are using. It seems strange to me that viewing or sending web-mail would actually "need" Java for operation, its more likely that some other item on the web page needs Java to run some advertising or other garbage that isn't a necessary part of the web-mail functionality you want to use.

  • "Sending Failure". Can't send, forward or reply to email with attachments or pictures

I have a Galaxy S5. When I try to send, forward or reply to an email with an attachment or picture it gets stuck in my outbox with a final message on my notification page of "sending failure". I have removed and re added my email accounts as well as cleared the cache without any luck.  Any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance!

  • Mail will not send, forward, reply, etc.

    Hello world,
I've researched and read many support threads but nothing comes close to describing (or solving) this problem a friend has got with her MBP - I hope someone can help.  Basically revealed as a 'sudden change' in expected results when using the Apple Mail app., as follows:
System: Apple Mail app ver. 5.3 , OS X Lion 10.7.5, used with Google mail only (flawlessly for about a year so far on this machine).  No changes or updates were applied (that might be known) so this is a puzzling problem, an nothing else seems to be affected.
In the Mail app, when attempting to Send, Reply, Reply All or Forward a mail message, nothing happens - no message window is presented to allow continuing with the action. This is true whether using the app buttons for these actions, or menu commands or hot-keys.  Mail retrieval continues to be OK; message navigation is not affected, notes can be opened, etc.
It's obviously not a POP server problem because mail is retrieved OK. SMTP settings all appear to be proper, verified as
Accounts > SMTP server > Advanced:   Use default ports (25,465, 587),  Use SSL.
    Possible secondary symptoms?
One first step taken was to ensure all apps were up to date by running Software Update. At the end of the update a restart was required, but was interrupted by the message "Other: Application mail cancelled restart."  Mail was force-closed to proceed with the restart.
After being minimized, the mail window can be reopened from the doc position at bottom right of the desktop, but not by re-selecting the mail app icon in its normal position.  The app bar indicates that Mail has taken focus, but the mail window does not reappear.
After reviewing Mail Preferences and making a minor change, the preferences could not be saved. Instead, the following message appears:   "Error saving preferences.   Writing your preferences to the disk has failed. Your preferences may not have been saved. The permissions on ~/Library/Preferences may be wrong or your disk may be full." I can confirm that the disk is not full; at least 200GB free.
~/Library/Preferences Sharing & Permissions: are found to be: "You can only read / System: Read & Write / wheel: Read only / everyone: Read only
Any help towards resolution is much appreciated.

    Thanks, all, for your input.
@~Bee:  Yes, Mail is friendly enough and wll-integrated and probably beats Thunderbird, which is 'Plan B' .  I'm sure this can all be corrected - it's perhaps just a case of finding the straightest path instead of trying 'n' different things and creating 10 other problems along the way.
    1.  What do you mean, "sudden change?"  I know you said that no changes were made to the System, but often, changes are made quickly, and forgotten.  So this did not occur after an OS update?
Eseentially: close the lid at night: AOK. Open the lid in the morning: Mail br0k3n.  There was no OS update applied manually other than the after-the-fact update mentioned - and I don't believe anything is running on autopilot.
    2.  Please clairify:
the mail window can be reopened from the doc position at bottom right of the desktop, but not by re-selecting the mail app icon in its normal position.
What does "re-selecting the mail app icon in its NORMAL position" mean???
If minimized, the app can be reopened from the minimized app area (stack area) on the right side of the dock. But if you try to reopen by clicking on the original Mail app icon in its original "normal" position in the dock = no action.  My experience is that this is abnormal.
    3.  What happens if Mail is opened from the Applications folder?
After this time I can't recall if we tried this or not - I believe so but can't be sure. The Mac is miles away at this time so I may have to relay some things.
    Thanks Bee.
PS.  The secret work-around on iOS 6.1.3 battery drain is to turn off Setting > iCloud > Find My <device>

  • Can't reply or forward gmail in Mail 6.0 (only write!)

After having done some SMTP-server editing on my MacBook Pro I have problems with Mail 6.0 using Mountain Lion.
I've 4 accounts connected to the application of which 2 are gmail accounts with IMAP.
The problem is that after the editing I can't reply or forward any mails using the gmail accounts, only write new messages with them!
I've tried a few things. Clean OS install, Time Machine restore and different account settings from the web.
None of them seems to work. As of now I either have to send through my web browser, iCloud or an Exchange account.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Can't compose, reply or send mail - but can receive

My software is up to date and I can receive mail, but I select reply and it usually would bring up a new mail window and won't or I try to compose a new email and my mail won't let me even type past the third letter or send/forward/reply to anything.
Worked yesterday fine - the only thing I did was delete some fonts, but replaced them and restarted and mail still won't work - but I can receive and all of my other programs are uneffected.

This problem in Mail is usually caused by some Launch Services cache or preferences corruption that affects the built-in spell checker. The following article describes how to manually reset Launch Services — the notes at the bottom of the article also provide information about the side effects of deleting each of the files involved:
    Resetting Launch Services
If you prefer using a cache cleaning utility instead of following the manual procedure described in the previous article, take a look at this other article for general troubleshooting and cache-cleaning procedures. Actually, you should also verify/repair the startup disk (not just permissions), as described there:
Resolving Disk, Permission, and Cache Corruption
The most appropriate utility for this particular problem probably is Tiger Cache Cleaner, but you may also want to consider other utilities, such as OnyX, or Cache Out X, which are free. Whatever utility you choose, be sure to read this first:
Side effects of System cache cleaning
As an example, this is how you should proceed with OnyX:
    1. Quit all applications.
    2. Launch OnyX and enter your administrator password.
    3. Go to Maintenance > Reset and check LaunchServices database.
    4. Un-check any other pre-checked options.
    5. Click the Execute button.
    6. Restart the computer.
