Can't reset keyboard dictionary

Hi.  I'm trying to reset the iPhone 4S' iOS 5.0.1 keyboard dictionary, but the instructions all over the 'Net don't work for me.  I go in to Setting > General > Reset > Reset Keyboard Dictionary and complete the process, but it doesn't seem to have an effect.  For example, I often abbreviate tomorrow with tmrw and I told me phone to learn tmrw.  I remember the first time I typed it, I told the phone to learn it.  But after doing the keyboard reset and I type tmrw, it still recognizes it.  It's supposed to NOT recognize the abbreviation after the reset.
Does anyone have any thoughts?
Thanks.

I have the same issue.  Dozens of incorrect words in my dictionary and of course they are for the most common words I type.  Resetting the keyboard does nothing.  Resetting the entire phone does nothing.  Erasing the entire phone does nothing.
Just this morning I figured out 'something' of a fix.  I'm sure the issue remains where the keyboard is building up illegitimate words but my solution has given me a fresh start.
I simply added the ENGLISH UK keyboard and deleted the standard ENGLISH keyboard. I did this in:
SETTING>GENERAL>KEYBOARD>INTERNATIONAL KEYBOARDS
I then deleted the US keyboard.
This seems to have gotten rid of my problem words.  Thank God.  sbout (about) and sonethigb (something) were pushing me toward throwing the phone against the wall.
Looks like this has provided some level of 'fix' for me.  I'm going to text very gingerly here for the first few weeks and do my best not to accidentally proceed with non-words.  I figure this keyboard dictionary still will save every word that comes into it and be unable to reset so I figure I'm kicking the proverbial can down the road but hey, at least it's a fresh start...

  • Resetting keyboard dictionary not working

I have a friend with the original iPhone, the dictionary on his phone had learnt to correct certain words in annoying ways, for instance the word 'thats' to 'THATS'.
He wanted to clean up his phone a bit anyway so restored the iPhone OS and once he had done that selected the 'Reset keyboard dictionary' option from the settings in the hope that it would remove these annoying corrections but it has not, he has restarted etc several times but it has not cleared the words his dictionary has learnt.
Is there something he is doing wrong or is there any other way of resetting the dictionary?
    Thanks,
    Matt

    You still having this problem?
This is an intermittent bug in ios (notice mine didn't autocorrect the caps on ios just there). I have ios 5. Ever since I updated to it from ios 4.x, it's failed to reset the keyboard dictionary.
    We're not alone. http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?p=13981502
It's quite frustrating, this iOS keyboard (notice it corrected iOS that time). It works well enough to function but has a lot of very inconsistent (yet frequent) weird behaviors. One personal annoyance to me is the problem being a fast two fingered typer in landscape. I almost ways lose the "t" on "the" "that" "then" etc because it decides my rapid th is a mistake.
Report to Apple and pray. That's all we can do.

  • What is the reset keyboard dictionary for (settings reset reset keyboard dictionary) ??

What is the reset keyboard dictionary option for? (settings> general> reset> reset keyboard dictionary)

It removes any words that you've added to the user dictionary :
You add words to the keyboard dictionary by rejecting words iPad suggests as you type. Tap a word to reject the correction and add the word to the keyboard dictionary. Resetting the keyboard dictionary erases all words you’ve added.

  • Reset Keyboard Dictionary doesn't work

Hi everybody, i have tried several times to reset the keyboard dictionary to get rid of all the silly suggestions when i am typing a message or an Email, but it doesn't seems to work.
How can i reset it for sure?
    Thanx

Do you expect 'Reset' to get rid of those spellings that you've rejected or those spellings that were presented as options?
You may have inverted your expectation compared with what 'Reset' actually does?

  • How Can I Reset anthy Dictionary (kasumi: invalid entry in romaji)

I've been using ibus-anthy for a while and then I installed kasumi to add rare words and emoticon shortcuts. Unfortunately I made mistake by entering words in romaji (not in kana) and now I can't launch kasumi.
Sound must consist of only Hiragana characters. You have entered invalid character: "
I've tried 'pacman -Rn ibus ibus-qt anthy ibus-anthy kasumi' but it didn't work: the invalid entry remained there.
Is there any way to reset the dictionary, or at least clean uninstall for ibus?

    Solved.
The file is ~/.anthy/private_words_default, which is a plain text file.

  • Reset keyboard dictionary

I tried to reset my keyboard dictionary to clean out the random auto-correct fixes. It went through the motions, but didn't actually reset anything. All of my shortcuts and random auto-fixes are still there. This is the first time I've tried to since the ios7 update. Is anyone else having this issue?

    LizMaddock,
you can reset the input source to Spanish by selecting the Keyboard pane of System Preferences, selecting the Input Sources tab, and pressing the “+” button in the lower-left corner to select one of the Spanish input sources. The “Spanish – ISO” input source is most similar to the physical Spanish keyboard layout.

  • "Offive" in the user dictionary and I can't remove it even after reset the dictionary

    Hi all,
I found that I have a word "Offive" in my user dictionary.
I tried to remove it by resetting the keyboard / dictionary; however, the word "Offive" is still there immediately after I reset the dictionary.
I searched for the word "Offive" in my contacts and calendars.  And, there are no such occurence.
Interesting, the word "Offive" only appears in my iPhone; I have an iPad2, but the word "offive" isn't shown in the iPad at all.
Do you know how iOS user dictionary added this word "Offive" automatically?
When I typed "Offibe", iOS would automatically change it to "Offive" and then informed it's a misspell and I then changed it to "office" by clicking the word "Offive".  This is clumsy.
    Thanks,
    Ting Pong

It wouldn't have been added automatically.  Words are added to the dictionary when you decline autocorrect suggestions.  You just have typed "offive" and then tapped the '"x" to decline the autocorrect suggestion "office" at some point, probably by mistake.

Which keyboard layout you were using? German, French ... I suppose your layout is reset to the default: US and you are unable to find the "?" or "/" ...
Please have a look into the keyboard viewer, to see how the layout of your keyboard is actually.

  • Trying to restore my Mac OS  after a hard drive failure and my password is no longer recognized, however I can log in by double clicking on the Lion Icon? How can I reset my password

I am trying to restore my Mac OS after a hard drive failure and my password is no longer recognized, however I can log in by double clicking on the Lion Icon? How can I reset my password

First, make sure caps lock is not on.
Another reason why your password might not be recognized is that the keyboard layout (input source) has been switched without your realizing it. At the login screen, you can cycle through the available layouts by pressing the key combinationcommand-space or command-option-space. See this support article.
If the user account is associated with an Apple ID, and you know the Apple ID password, then maybe the Apple ID can be used to reset your user account password.
Otherwise*, boot into Recovery mode. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
    Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. In the window that opens, type this:
    res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password window opens. Close the Terminal window to get it out of the way.
Select your boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Follow the prompts to reset the password. It's safest to choose a password that includes only the characters a-z, A-Z, and 0-9.
    Select
     ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.
You should now be able to log in with the new password, but your Keychain will be reset (empty.) If you've forgotten the Keychain password (which is ordinarily the same as your login password), there's no way to recover it.
*Note: If you've activated FileVault, this procedure doesn't apply. Follow instead these instructions.

  • My daughter forgot her Mac book pro password. How can I reset it

My daughter forgot her Mac book pro password. How can I reset it?

Put your install DVD into the optical drive (CD/DVD drive) and reboot. Be sure to either use the disc that came with your Mac, or, if you installed a later Mac OS X version from disc, use the newer disc. As soon as you hear the boot chime, hold down the "c" key on your keyboard (or the Option Key until the Install Disk shows up) until the apple shows up. That will force your MacBook to boot from the install DVD in the optical drive.
When it does start up, you'll see a panel asking you to choose your language. Choose your language and press the Return key on your keyboard once. It will then present you with an Installation window. Completely ignore this window and click on Utilities in the top menu and scroll down to Reset Password. After resetting the password use Startup Disk from the same menu to choose your hard drive for startup and restart.

  • IPhone 4S - iOS 5 - Something is wrong, phone is autocorrecting every single word... Can i reset the feature?? HELP!

iPhone 4S - Is anyone else experiencing strange behavior by the autocorrect? it's trying to autocorrect every single word... for instance "is" corrected to "OS". ***? it's happening on every single word!! Can i reset the feature?? HELP!
I have been an iPhone user since the first iPhone. In fact, i was first in line in 2007 at the Boston Apple Store at Chestnut Hill Mall.
I've never experienced such strange behavior by the autocorrect feature.  Granted there is the occasional annoying autocorrect, but this is out of control. I can't even make it through a sentence without getting frustrated and wanting to throw the brand new iPhone 4S accross the room!
    Someone please help!!!

OOPS!! This is a case of user error..
I turned on a couple keyboards looking for the Emoji keyboard last night... So my assumption is that the "keyboards > language selection" is linked to the dictionaries the system uses for autocorrect?  Well, whatever the case, I turned everything off except English and Emoji and that seemed to correct the problem.
If anyone else is having a blond moment, like me, consider user error first. LOL
    Have a good day!

  • Reset english dictionary on Nokia 6610i

    Hi,
I use the Nokia 6610i phone. Following is the output of *#0000# :

    RM-37
I've added some words and some other punctuations to the dictionary which are now getting in the way. I want to completely remove them and start out with a fresh "factory" like english predictive text input dictionary.
How do I do that? I tried using the Settings -> Restore factory settings menu option, but it does not reset the dictionary and remove the extra words/punctuations.
    Thanks a lot!
    Rohan.

Quite unpleasing for other regions, but still not possible unless Nokia release an English definition pack for it.
Why not get a mobile java dictionary instead? There are many of those, just google it.
