Can't resolve broken links

Hello everyone! I am hoping that someone will be able to assist me. I am working in RH 9 and i have received the following error when i select to resolve my broken links. "You cannot resore a topic that would be outside the project folder. Please make sure feferences are to the project folder then try restoring the topics." Can anyone assist with this error? I have checked my folders and the source and line files are in the correct folders. Thank you in advance.

Is the source topic showing in Project Manager or just Windows Explorer? If only the latter, you need to reimport it into the project first.
You also refer to "line files". What are they?

  • Resolved Broken Links keep breaking

I am in the proces of doing a Help project. When I open the
project and open the TOC all the items have a broken link beside
them. I then go into tool and into "resolve broken links" and fix
them all and everything seems ok. I then save my project. If start
up the project again all the items in the TOC again have broken
links beside them.... Where have I gone wrong???????????

  • Resolve Broken Links with No Reference

I have many broken links in a webhelp project that I cannot
resolve because there is no reference. Is there a way to delete
    broken links?

Hi, I have a similar problem and cannot seem to get rid of a
    bunch of broken links.
Basically at some point this project file had an html
subfolder that was taken out. Consequently many topics had
    html\<topicname>.htm and then became <topicname>.htm.
My problem is now that these files with the html\ folder are
under broken links and now don't reference or link to anything if I
right-click on them. I cannot restore them, delete them, or edit
    them in any way.
I find that it is also creating problems when the WebHelp is
generated and put on our server, several topics give a "file not
found" error because they are searching for html\ in the filename
and of course cannot find it. I have fixed these by searching and
getting rid of any reference to \html in the topic files, but a few
still don't link properly. Even after creating a new table of
contents and re-linking all topics and images it does the same, AND
has these broken links still listed.
Any ideas? I realize this may be several problems. I think
someone in the past deleted the html folder outside of RoboHelp and
it messed everything up. We are taking about a Help file with over
700 topics, so it is a real beast to work with.
    Thanks,
    Joel

  • Can't repair broken links

    Hi
I've got 267 broken links on a single page, all images.
there seems to be no difference between surviving links and broken links,
I have tried to fix the links in the link inspector and the properties panel, which failed.
I think this might take a long time to repair, so I don't want to go down any wrong paths, especially with me being a relative newbee an all.
The page in question is here:
    http://denchworthponds.co.uk/Pond%20Construction.html
It's an image heavy site in which every image has
a thumbnail, a thumbnail rollover and a large lightbox image that activates when the thumbnail is clicked
122 links are OK, 267 links are broken.
I didn't notice before I uploaded the site as it looked fine in 'preview in browser'.
perhaps the problem is in my code - I hope so.
Could it be one of the following?
1/ the photos are in image folders within the image folder on my local site, is it bad practice to have folders within folders on my local site? (i've got loads)
2/ since saving(for Web and devices) the images to my local site, I have opened many of them again in photoshop for image alteration, I was checking for an increase in file size while I was altering the images, but didn't see any. Then, of course, I saved them back in the same folder with same name etc. Was the problem that I merely saved the images, and did not Save for Web and devices? - they were already optimised. (some images were altered manually, others using the Actions pallette)
    3/ Some of the folder names are probably not DW friendly, for instance;
the file pond6thumb4 is in my folder 12pondbuild6 4/11,
DW reads that folder as                   12pondbuild6 4%3A11 -is that the problem?
(-and, as I say, that folder is inside the Images folder on my local site)
The real mystery to me is that 122 links are not broken and I can see no difference between the surviving links and the broken links. It all seems a bit arbitory.
    I'm running CS5.5 on a 2007 iMac duo-core desktop.
    Any thoughts anybody?
thank you for your time and greycells in advance
    - Shaun

Find and Replace should be able to manage that quickly.
    Find: (in source code): %3A
Replace: (blank) or a hyphen ("-")
Rename your folders manually in the operating system.
Or, use the DW Files Panel:
Rename each folder and let DW manage the renaming of the links automatically.

  • Can't delete broken links in iTunes

I tried to import my music collection over a network into iTunes on my new MacBook Pro. I only got a small percentage of my collection with lots of duplicates, so I deleted everything to try again. Now the songs are gone from the Music folder, but still showing up in the Music section of the library with an exclaimation point in the first column for every one of them. (I disabled sharing on the network, and that's where iTunes is looking for these songs.) I can't delete any of these. How do I delete everything and start fresh? I want all my music stored locally, not linked over the network.

Update-- A reboot solved the problem. Now when I choose to delete them, it works.

  • How can i remove broken links automatically from my bookmarks

I have a huge list of bookmarks and i detect that several of the websites do not exist anymore. Is it possible to automatically remove these ? I know that websites can be out-of-service temporarily, but i take that risk. I remember that older browsers (Mozilla ? Netscape ? ....) had such a feature

  • How can we remove podcasts with broken links?

The organization I work for has some old podcasts (2011) listed in iTunes; the links to all the MP3s are broken. No one in the organization has any idea who posted these items in the first place, so needless to say, we have no idea what account they're linked to. We'd just like for those podcasts to stop appearing in iTunes -- is there a way to flag the broken links so the podcasts don't show up any more?
    Thanks in advance.

The feed for that is still up at
    http://feeds.feedburner.com/RichardRohrHomilies
Ideally you should remove it, which would ensure it being removed from the Store (a cached version would show until they removed it) - however you will need the login to Feedburner to do this, which presumably you don't have. In that case you can only hope that the fact that none of the media files can be accessed will be sufficient.
The author is Father Richard Rohr at Holy Family Church, Albuquerque, and the 'Generator' (the technical source of the feed) is listed as the Center for Action and Contemplation.

  • I had a broken link by registration adobe ID and can't authorisaze my reader now

The registration site for adobe id digital editon givew a broken link. But give the e-mailadres a id, but I can't see the ID

There are a couple of things I see here.
First, registering your copy of ADE with Adobe is necessary to assure that
the software will work with libraries.  Now that you've done so, ADE's ready
    to go.....
Next, the error getting license message can refer to the digital rights
management (DRM) software that is used by the library.  Some other people
have figured this out, and here is a blog entry that may help:
    http://technology.myblogzone.info/2011/01/how-to-solve-the-error-getting-license-message-i n-adobe-digital-editions/.
There are several different software packages that are used by libraries,
but all have a common function that will expire a loaned ebook after a
certain time.  That's great because you don't have to pay fines for overdue
books.  And it can mean that, if you can't access your download, it will
expire without you having to do anything to it.  I've read some posts here
that say it may be difficult to check out the same ebook again, because the
electronic license information gets messed up, but I don't have any
    experience with it.
    Hope this helps!

  • Preview Pane and broken link issues in CS2 for Mac.  Please help!

I posted this a few days ago - but would love to have some insight on how we can resolve this issue
When I am working on html documents, both old and new, I have lost all of the 'preview pane' buttons.
I can still see and have access to the layout and source panes, but the two preview (pdf and regular) are missing.
In the body of the editor all of the images that were there now show just a broken link image (but when you save and go to view the file in a browser all changes and updates are there.  The source shows all of the right info and links
Also when you place a new image - the image icon doesn't show the image or even change to the proper size that the image is.  You have to do that manually and then still only shows a broken icon in the new size.
Has anyone seen this before?  Did I accidentally altered a mode in GoLive....is there a way to fix it?
    Thanks!!!

When you have ADE (digital editions) open with  "bookshelves" page with a "Getting Started with Adobe Digital Editions" booklet in it,
    enter cmd-shift-U, or menu/Help/Authorize Computer.
That will ask for your Adobe ID and password and authorize the computer.
Once that has been done you shouldn't need to do it again.
Sometimes you do need to if things go wrong, but you certainly shouldn't have to do it at all regularly.
When that has been done, plug in the Kobo; it should show up in the left pane of ADE.
Use "menu/Help/Authorize Device" and that will authorize your Kobo with the Adobe ID from the Mac.
You can then copy books by drag-dropping onto the Kobo within ADE

  • Broken links to database stored gif's

I installed 9i AS 1.0.2 for NT and immediately after that the hlw-tutorial files. Now some (not all) links are broken, e.g. in the hlw navigation bar the link to the "home" (http://servername/pls/portal30/docs/249.gif). The file 249.gif is stored in wwdoc_document$ with a pathid of 209. As I didn't find an appropriate table in user_tab_columns resolving the pathid: does anyone know where this pathid is resolved or - even better - what the cause of that error is?
    Thanks in advance

  • Dreamweaver 8 - Problematic Broken Link Check

On a regular basis I use Dreamweaver 8's broken link checker
    to convert
relative links to absolute throughout single HTML files.
Once upon a time, I could use the results pane to quickly
    replace all
of the broken links. Ever since installing Dreamweaver 8
    (upgraded from
MX) I've had the following problem with the link checker:
    1. It seems to find all of the broken links correctly,
    however, when I
try to change them into absolute, it doesn't actually make
    the changes.
    2. Sometimes it even makes incorrect changes to the path of
    the link,
such as changing the image link to a .html link randomly (I
    have no
    idea how this happens!)
    3. When it asks if I'd like to replace the other references
    to the same
file, and I respond yes, it does nothing.
After researching this topic somewhat, I have found temporary
    solution,
but it's driving me crazy and I'm looking for a long-term
    resolution
    for this issue.
If I delete my WinFileCache-xxxxxx.dat file (under User >
    Application
    Data > Macromedia > Dreamweaver 8 > Configuration)
    before opening
Dreamweaver, the problem is resolved until the end of that
    specific
session. As soon as I close Dreamweaver and reopen it, the
    problem
    returns.
I understand that by deleting the WinFileCache file I am
    basically
starting with a clean slate, which is why this method is
    temporarily
effective. However, this is a daily problem for me and I'm
    sick of
having to do it every single time I use the program....
SO...if any of you have any thoughts, suggestions, or similar
complaints, please share - I'm desperate to find a long-term
    solution!
    Thanks!

The real question is - why are you regularly getting broken
    links? The only
reason I can think of is that your local site is actually on
    a remote,
shared network drive, and there is intermittant connectivity
    to it due to
some recurring network anomaly. Can you tell me how your site
    is defined?

  • PDF Open Parameters reported as broken links

I use the PDF Open Parameters in order to link to specific
    pages/locations in PDF documents:
    e.g. <a href="
    http://www.site.com/pdffile.pdf#nameddest=signup">pdffile</a>
However these always get reported as broken link within
Dreamweaver (CS3) and as broken anchors when I run other link or
page quality scans against the site.
Has anyone else experienced this and if so is it normal
behaviour? If this is an agreed standard then I would have expected
it to be recognised as a valid link/anchor.

It's expected behavior in DW. Since you're referencing a full
    URL, DW can't
see that when testing for broken links within a locally
    defined site. Due to
Adobe's and MS unwillingness to communicate...you're stuck
    with this
approach until the path issues get resolved.

  • RH8 fixing broken links

In RH8, I'm trying to fix broken links. I find the topics, then they move from the Broken Links folder to the correct folder but then the topic still looks like it has a broken link! Can anyone advise? here's a pic

    Hello again
Unfortunately you are totally misunderstanding things. Please allow me to try and explain better.
ANY folder in your project is going to have an FPJ file inside it. This is a "behind the scenes" file that RoboHelp uses to keep track of the files that are part of the project.
In the image you provided, there are two folders in the project location with similar names:
    Ranger_Help
    Ranger_Help_
Only the Ranger_Help_ appears to actually be part of the project because the other folder Ranger_Help isn't appearing in the image capture showing the project inside RoboHelp. So unless something screwy happened, you should not find an FPJ file inside that folder. Then again, you may find one. It all depends on what happened.
Personally, I'd look inside the Ranger_Help folder and see if the files representing the broken links are inside. They may well be. And if so, I'd copy them to the Ranger_Help_ folder and see if that resolves things.
This project is beginning to resemble a bowl of spaghetti!

  • Broken Links Index Keyword

    Hello All,
I have a bunch of index keywords that show up under Broken
Links and I can't seem to resolve them. RoboHelp help has a topic,
"Removing topic references from keywords" but their procedure
doesn't work for me. If anyone has figured out a fix, let me know.
    M.S

Well, I think I got it figured out. This may not be the best
way, but I'll share it with the community anyway in case anyone
    else needs it.
    1. In RoboHelp go to Tools > Reports > Broken links.
    2. Save the report to a text file.
    3. Close RoboHelp (it'll crash later if you don't)
    4. Find the .hhk file in the project folder (back it up
    before starting)
    5. Open the .hhk file with WordPad.
    6. Copy part of the "Missing Topic" path from the report and
search for it in the .hhk file.
    7. When you find the keyword reference, delete everything
    between the <li><object
    type="text/sitemap"></object> tags.
    8. Save the .hhk
Note: after doing this, I had to restart my computer before I
could open a topic in RH without it crashing.

  • Delete Broken Links

I would like to know how to delete everything in the broken
links folder. I have a project that has migrated from a Word import
thru a few editors, structure reorganizations, and other nefarious
activities and it is time to clean up the resulting mess. I can't
find a way to just delete the broken links - they no longer
    reference anything in the project.
I can't find a procedure to remove or resolve them - the
broken links are irrelevant. Is there a utility that can just
delete the broken links from the project or edit a file outside of
    the project?

I renamed and rebuilt the .cpd file, came back in, and all
    those unreferenced links were gone.
Thanks very much for your quick response! That did the trick!
I made a backup of the *.cpd file, deleted the original,
re-opened RoboHTML and my project, then recompiled it. The few
broken references that I had fixed in the Index keywords were no
longer listed in the Broken Links folder! Yay! Now I just need to
    fix the rest of them.
    cheers!
