Can't restart with Cool n Quiet (FIXED!!!!!!)

Anyone else having problems restarting PC from within XP sp2 with CnQ enabled? My PC shuts down but will not POST again unless I reset or powercycle my PC.  I read another posting that said to increase your vcore to 1.55.  Tried that but didn't work for me.

Could be an isolated problem.  As archermoo stated, he doesn't have any problems setting his multi to "startup".  But it definately solved my problem.

    WinXP SP2
Having Cool'n Quiet disabled in BIOS setup, CPU core voltage adjustment
using 'Adjust CPU VID' below the Athlon 64 default 1,5V core voltage
    works like a charm. Fine!
But with Cool'n Quiet enabled in BIOS setup (and WinXP), under load the
CPU core voltage raises to 1,5V in any case, independently of what I did
define in BIOS setup with 'Adjust CPU VID' (e.g. 1,4V). Software tools setting
Vcore like Core Center are not running.
So I can choose to either run a silent system in idle mode with Cool'n Quiet
enabled or under heavy CPU load with Cool'n Quiet disabled but Vcore
reduced :-( Am I missing something or does it rather look like a BIOS
    bug?

As undervolting is not considured standard operating proceedures then how can it be considured a bug.
nor is overclocking but MSI mobo manual reads 'This motherboard is designed to support overclocking.'
So this mobo is designed for supporting at least one non standard operating procedure
Seriously, if BIOS offers a feature I suppose it to work as expected.

  • Sblive not working with Cool n'Quiet, how about Audigy

My SBli've will not work with Cool n'Quiet enabled. I tried moving it from slot to slot, I fumbled with the Bios (and every change made matters worse), memory is ok (at least according to memtest and prime95), kx drivers won't help either (but sound a lot nicer).
Well, what gives, the card is a little over seven years old and has earned a retirement.
I'm thinking about replacing it with an Audigy 4 (not pro) und would be very happy if someone could write about her or his experience with the card, esp. with Cool n'Quiet enabled.
Btw. what kind of card is it anyway? Does it use a 0k2-Chip?
    thanks

    Asus A8V (Via KT800pro, AGP)
    Nvidia 6600GT (AGP)

I cant promize anything, but it should work. X-FI and Audigy 2 work just fine with C&Q enabled. So Audigy 4 should work fine too.

  • MSI K8T Neo2-FIR - Cool'n'Quiet FIX

Just turn Cool'n'Quiet off in the BIOS...that's what I did and it works now.
    Doesn't make sense...but oh well.
    Gman22

@Gman - I see now, what you meant. Another workaround: Speedfan.
@Bas: Gman referred to the bug in Core Center, where fan speed can't be controlled if CnQ is enabled.
Yes, I know that CnQ is something else than fan control.
Fan (the hardware way) control on K8T Neo2-F(IR) is fixed and can not be set by user. Actually CPU fan speed will normally be 2/3. I think that CFAN will rise to 100% if a certain temperature is reached. Although SFAN could be regulated, too, MSI apparently decided to let this on 100% speed.
So, if user wants other fan speeds, he has to rely on additional software.
Core Center is not suitable because of a bug that prevents the software from controlling fans if CnQ is enabled. On the other hand, CC doesn't seem to be designed for Windows NT 5.x, where different types of users that have different permissions are established since 1999 (Release of W2k)

  • How can I restart with itunes again  as I seem to have duplicate folders in Music and Itunes?

I seem to have partially duplicate Music folders  on my computer one called Music (/Users/barry) which is 86.9 gb and one called Itunes music (/Users/barry/Music/iTunes) which is 60.9 GB.
I also have a folder of 25GB in /Users/barry/Music/iTunes/iTunes Master Library recreated 29jul2014/iTunes
I am totally confused as to whether these are really duplicates or how to solve this but am desperate to free up some space on my hard drive.
Are all these necessary or can I delete any please?
Can I start with Itunes again without endangering my music collection?
I am using 11.1.5 version of Itunes.

  • Gaming problem with Cool n quiet ?

    Hi there,
I've enabled cool'n'quiet in the Bios, because my fan was doing too much noises.
So now in CPU-Z, the multiplier is x5.  But the problem is that is STAY at x5 even when i'm playing game like DOOM3 or Half-Life 2.
So it is lagging a lot in the game, but it doesn't crash (thank god).
I wonder why my fan don't ajust itself, because it should right?  CPU go 100% but the multiplier and the fan speed stay don't move.
    Thanks,
    TanGU.

  • Problems with Cool N Quiet and MSI Live Update

    Hi
I have had my K8T NEO FISR2 motherboard for a year and  generally I have been very happy with it. However, I have just installed Full Spectrum Warrior (about 3 weeks ago ) and Nortons Internet Suite 2005 and both installations resulted in the same error message when I boot up.
The error message is that MSI Live Update isn't started up, and also that Cool N quite is not supported on my motherboard which is obviously rubbish.
I have done a complete re-install of the Live Update and Cool N quite and that fixes it, and then it seems to come back a day later.
Has anyone else experienced this problem?
    Thankyou for your help

I stopped using the MSI software completely.  Also got lots of troubles with it.  MSi Live Update for example stops the audio drivers working while checking their revision and so on, so my advice is to use it only if needed once in a while and not loading it together with Windows.

  • Is there something wrong with cool'n'quiet on my system?

    A64 3200+ Winchester, Neo2 Platinium 1.4 BIOS.  I turn on c'n'q and it runs at 200x5.
I fire up Toast and Prime 95, turn on WCPUID's real time clock and the thing NEVER increases the speed.
I downloaded the newest driver for the CPU from AMD, still nothing.  This is a fresh load of XP SP2 + Windows Updates + nVidia's driver set off the website.

I had to disable my Cool and Quite in bios otherwise it was a huge perfromance hit.  I know there is a sticky at the top in regards to CnQ but thats too much to read

  • Cool'n Quiet Preventing Restarts

Looked for this issue but didn't find it - sorry if it's a repost....
When I try to restart WinXP with Cool and Quiet enabled, the screen shows "Shutting Down...", my monitor shuts off, then IDE LED stays on for about 20 seconds and goes off but the comp is still powered. From there I can hit the case reset and reboot so this isn't major but really bugs me. When I switch the C'n'Q off (by going to something other than Minimal Power Management) I can reboot fine. My comp shuts down fine in any case.
It's as if my CPU isn't powered enough to go through with the restart. I'm new here and need to post my specs, but for now wanted to know if anyone else experienced this? Thanks.

When I turn the CnQ off in BIOS but keep Min Power Mgt, I can reboot no prob - same thing as if I keep it on in BIOS but switch off Min Power Mgt.  Seems like the bottom line is: if CnQ is off - no matter how, just off - I can reboot.
Yes I *think* I did change Min Power Mgt to be 'Turn Off Monitor After 5 minutes' - which I'm not sure if that's default or not.  I regularly change it from '1 Minute' to something else, although I'm not sure I changed it with my current install yet.  If I did, that would be the only setting I would've changed.  'Turn Off Hard Disks' and 'System Standby' are always both 'Never'.
I have Sp2 - haven't tried this pre-Sp2 but I'm going to re-install this weekend with just Sp1 and see if it happens.
Thanks for the replies.  I feel better just knowing I'm not the only one

  • Msi k8n neo3 cool 'n' quiet & amd a64 sempron 2800+

nice forum! I hope you guys can help me out.
    here's the deal.
I am what one would call a computer expert, but unfortunately I seem to miss something in this particular matter, unlike in other cases, which is very frustrating.
I personally own loads of MSI boards, most of which for amd64 systems, so I have experience with the drivers and utilities and I know how to get these systems up and running with cool 'n' quiet, except for this particular system. I know the cpu can't be to blame for this, since it supports cool 'n' quiet. I also have owned some other boards from other manufacturers (also amd64), so I'd like to think that I am aquainted with the technology.
    msi k8n neo3 motherboard:
    - bought this one three days ago
    - came with bios version 1.05x (!!!)
    - updated the bios to 1.5x (amongst others because of the sempron support)
    - enabled the coolnquiet feature (OC options were enabled, settings to optimized, captain etc. etc. (what I usually do)).
    - installed the drivers from the cd; the .inf driver was also installed (I saw a screen confirming that).
    - put energy management to minimalized setting
    - rebooted
and... nothing! well, except for the normal speed it should not be running on at 0% cpu load (1607 MHz).
tried installing the standard amd driver from the amd website; also nothing... I did come across this problem once before and then I had to conclude that the problem could be resolved by installing another amd a64 driver package that came from another manufacturer's motherboard cd (which should not be the problem of course, because this driver (just as the cpu) should be generic).
    configuration:
    - this board @ bios 1.5x
    - amd 2800+ sempron (latest model) + boxed cooler
    - 2x samsung ddr400 512mb (also tested it with corsair modules)
    - dvd-drive
    - couple of hard drives connected to pata/sata, no raid enabled.
    - winxp-32 us. SP2
apart from this particular problem, the system works just fine.
    who can help me out?

    Thanks for your replies guys.
    Quote from: syar2003 on 09-January-06, 23:22:40
Appearently only Sempron 3000+ and higher support CnQ .
Some lower models ildes down to as litte as 14W so CnQ don't make much sense in those low power models.
Also if the multiplier is locked downwards CnQ can't work (E.g can you run 7*200 , and make it stick).
Well, appearently this specific model does support it, I know this because it says so on the box... so why isn't it working then?
For the sake of the argument, what if this CPU did support CnQ, what am I doing wrong then?
What I also can't figure out is why these CPU's, according to your statement, should be doing something like 14W in idle mode, whereas these cpu's basically aren't that different from normal amd64 cpu's, except for the support of x86-AMD64 and having a larger cache ; these fully featured amd64 cpu's need something like 80-90W in stressed mode, running on their normal clock speeds and do something like 32W when in CnQ-mode. How is that possible? Because of newer generation production processes with less nm-technology or something like that?

  • More Cool N Quiet weirdness

    Howdy All!
    Okay...
I did a search on Cool N Quiet  in these forums and there were something like 156 posts with "Cool N Quiet" in the body or title of the post.  I searched around and I didn't find anything complaining about what I'm about to ask you guys.
Most posts deal with the fact that people are were having trouble getting Cool N Quiet to reduce their CPU speed from 2000MHz to 800MHz.
I had this exact same problem.  All of a sudden (perhaps from all the automatic patching I've been doing) it worked!  My speed is now at 800MHz when I'm not doing anything important (well...important to ME)
Here's my problem:  I've been playing a game called X2-The Threat lately...hated it at first, but it's growing on me.  Anyway, this game worked flawlessly for several weeks with all the fancy, shmancy graphics functions turned on.  All of a sudden, it starts freezing on me after about 5 minutes.  I checked for viruses...none.  I started tweaking graphics settings in the game...got rid of antialiasing and some other stuff...reduced resolution to 800x600...etc.  Still the game freezes.  THEN l looked at my CPU speed and low and behold....I'm down to 800MHz!  Cool N Quiet seems to be working to reduce my speed, but it doesn't seem to ramp up the speed when I need it.
Has anybody seen that before?  When I disable Cool N Quiet in BIOS I show CPU speeds at weird MHz readings....345Mhz and 376MHz...stuff like that.  Very odd.  You people have always been so helpful....any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
    -Kyde

Yes...I wondered about that.  A bit inconvenient, but not a horrible thing to have to do.  I have an old Logitech Extreme joystick and I have to verify that Windows sees it before I can use it in the game or the game won't recognize it.  I suppose adding another little task before I start won't kill me.
    Thanks for the advice.
I'll give it a shot this evening.

  • MSI K8N Neo3 how to install cool n quiet

can any one tell me how to install cool n quiet on k8n neo3.
is core center enough to do the job of cool n quiet.
Is my board is compatible with cool n quiet
I am using AMD athlon 2800+ and k8n neo3with MSI FX5200 VGA card

Refer to page 1-9 of your manual.
Enable the feature in the bios.
Select "minimal power management" in Windows power schemes.
You don't need to install core center for it to work, it just lets you visually know it's working.  AMD also has a small utility to visuallize the CPU throttlling.
To allow the CPU fan to automatically speed up or down, enable "smart CPU fan target" in the bios.
    Hope this helps.

  • Cool n Quiet and core centre question

    just a quick question
if i dont have cool and quiet enabled in the bios and i start core centre it reports my Mhz as 2400 ( i have the XP 64 3700 chip )
but if i enable cool n quiet in the bios and then start core center it reporst the MHz as 1000
and i was just curious why ........ faintly paranoid that my chip isnt running to spec
thanks if you can help and no probs if you cant

so with cool and quiet enabled my chip is running at half its rated spec 1000mhz instead of 2400mhz
would this be why DOOM detected my pc and set all detail to low even though i have an x800 xp 64 3700 and a gig of ram .... DOOM basically underspecced my processor
thats a bit mad as father dougal would say
ok last question ... with cool and quiet off the processor is reporting at 45 degrees so i would imagine under load ( saY a game of doom 3 ) it would hit 50+ .... whats the max safe temp for these chips 65 degrees ???

  • Cool'n'quiet FIS2R problem

I have the K8T FIS2R (6702) motherboard running a Sempron 64 3000+ cpu. I can't get the Cool'n'quiet to work. I use Windows XP Pro SP2. I have enabled Cool'n'quiet in the bios, the Sempron CPU driver from AMD's site are installed, but when I in Windows controlpanel click on Minimal powersetting, the computer just freeze right away. Any ideas?
The readme for tha AMD cpu drivers says it requires ACPI 2.0, but my bios/post under boot says it's running ACPI 1.0. Could that be the problem?

    Difficult one.
I think it has tot do with the multiplier not being able to throttle back. Mine goes from 10 to 5 @(close to) idle.
Run SuperPI (stressing ur CPU to the limit, so it won't throtle back) while selecting minimal power settings.
If it still crashes, u might consider raising the vCore, cus the other thing that happens is that the vCore will be lowered when C 'n Q kicks in, or RMA'ing the CPU.
If it keeps running post back plz.
    Good luck
