Can't restore backup after 6.01 update

Got an iPhone 3GS that I updated from 4.3 or so to 6.01, then tried to restore from backup -- but iTunes hangs at "Restoring iPhone from backup, Estimating time remaining..." eternally. Had pretty much my entire life on that phone, and now that everything is FUBAR I'm losing money every day that I can't do work. Any way to get all my lost data back? Backup stored somewhere on my computer? Reversion to older version of iOS or iTunes that actually works?

I see your post has gone unanswered for 2 weeks, could be because no-one knows the solution or your post is confusing.
I do not know the solution but what is confusing about your post is you said "After the upgrade, which naturally wiped the phone" Upgrades do not wipe the phone, how did you update ?

  • HELP! Can't restore backup after going from 4.2 to 4.1

I had 4.2b2 installed on my iPhone 4. I did a sync & it backed up.
I then restored 4.1 since 4.2 was very buggy for me.
When I went to restore the backup, it took like 5 seconds & of course the backup was not restored. I have too much information in various apps that I will lose if I can't restore that backup.
    What do I do?

Turn off your iPhone, then press&release power to turn it back on while keeping the home button pressed for 20 seconds to boot up your iPhone in recovery mode (you should see the "Connect to iTunes" logo with an iPhone cable on the screen).
Then connect your iPhone do your computer, iTunes will detect an iPhone in recovery mode. Restore using the stock / non-modified iOS 4.1 firmware. After the restore is over, you will be able to restore your last backup (I was able to restore from 4.2 to 4.1, but if you get an error (besides the "backup session" pirated users are getting...) then you can just use any of the previous backups in the list (iTunes does a full backup before doing a firmware update, so if you look in your backup history, you should see at least 2 backups dated from the day you did the 4.1 to 4.2 upgrade, one from before the upgrade, and one from after the upgrade. Obviously you will want to take the first first one).

  • Can't restore backup after OS upgrade

I just did an OS upgrade on my Z30.  Before doing the upgrade I synced contacts with Microsoft Windows contacts and did a complete backup, using default settings.
After the upgrade, which naturally wiped the phone, I synced the contacts back without any problem.  But when I try to Restore Device in BB Link, the backup file shows up in the Restore Optoins window of BB Link but a warning says "There are no items available to transfer" and the Restore button is greyed out.  I have about 1.5G of documents saved that I need to restore.
How do I get them back?

  • Unable to restore backup after updating iphone 4, because "not enough free space"

I updated my iphone 4 to v7 via itunes (v12), and in doing so, my camera roll was erased as were most of my calendar events.  I am trying to restore the backup that I created just before updating, but I get an error message in itunes that says "itunes could not restore the iphone" because "not enough free space".  There is 2.5gb free on my iphone, and I created the backup just before updating so there should be plenty of room.  Does anyone know how to get the iphone to restore and/or how to put my pics & calendar back?  itunes hangs up at the end while syncing too...

  • Can't restore backup up after latest update in operating system

after latest ipad update I canot restore backup.  Ipad version is 7.0.6 (11B651)  ITunes version 11.1.5.5
It attempts to restore from backup for about 30 minutes then stops and displays a message "ITunes cannot restore backup it is not compatable with IPad being restored

Since your profile above mentions iOS 5.1.1, I wonder if you are trying to restore to an original iPad.
If not, I wonder if you are trying to restore to some iPad that is not running iOS 7.0.6.  You cannot do that.

  • I can't make Backup after updating my iPhone!

After updating my device to the last version of iOS I can't make Backup!!
    What can I do?

You might try a forced shutdown to begin with, hold down the top and home buttons together until the device shuts down, then restart it.
First check that your device is correctly connected to the wifi/internet (settings > wifi)
If your back up continually fails, you might try turning off back up on your mobile device (settings > iCloud > storage & backup) and then deleting the backup file from iCloud by swiping the backup file on the mobile device (settings > iCloud > storage & backup > manage…) and then turning back up on again.
If this doesn't help, try turning off some items for back up in a pattern to try to establish if your problem is being caused by specific data on your device.
Being able to back up to the cloud can be very useful, especially if you don't have access to a computer or have infrequent access to one, however unless you specifically need to use iCloud for back up, you will find backing up to iTunes significantly more convenient and possibly more reliable.

  • IPhone 2.1:  Cannot restore backup after upgrade?

    OK, here's my scenario:
Had 2.0.1 on my 3G. Decided to upgrade to 2.1. I have a PC, and I do not sync my contacts with any email account (yet). So, I made a backup of my iPhone with iTunes prior to the upgrade. Good strategy, I thought: Backup, Upgrade, Restore. Hah, what was I thinking?
Made the upgrade. iPhone started up just fine, but it was empty. Restore my data.... thunk iPhone decided that something wasn't tasting too good and refused to accept the restore. In fact, it froze my iPhone every time, causing it to get stuck in a loop of vibrate every 10 seconds with the Apple logo on the screen. Hmmm...
Several attempts to factory restore / DFU and re-upgrade, downgrade, but the restore messed it up every time. gulp I've lost my contacts!?
    Nah-uh...
    No way....
    I refuse to accept it..
Using a method of search, I searched those recent MDBACKUP files for the word "addressbook" and found two files. One for contacts, one for contact photos. The filenames are just ridiculous. Anyway..
I moved the backup folder somewhere else, created a new one with the same name, and added these two files along with the three PLIST files which they're matched with.
    I started a manual restore.
It copied and restarted.... and it restored my contacts. Wow.
I tried this trick again, this time adding the files with my Safari bookmarks.
    Presto.
    Thank goodness.
So, if you ever need to just restore your contacts or bookmarks or the like, this is one way to do it. Anybody have a better method?
    -- dijitul in Hawaii

What do you open the folder with to find the one with contact info... test edit? Also... how do you find out what plist files they are associated with? This may sound simple but it's not really for a basic Mac user. I shouldn't have to do this after a standard update. Not good..
But if I can get more in fo I will give it a shot.
    Thanks.

  • Time machine can't open backups after installing Mavericks

When upgrading to Mavericks the installation failed with a disk error. In the shop they formated the disk and re-installed 10.6.8. It appear that there was nothing wrong with the disk anyway.
Of course formatting caused me to loose all data, but I had made a new Timemachine backup before the installation.
Getting the computer back with old OS and empty I called to ask which should be the order of the following:
    1. Upgrade to Mavericks
    2. Restore my data from Timemachine
Advice was the above so this morning I upgraded successfully to Mavericks. However when I would like restore data (after a few issues making the Mac see the external backup disk) it appears thet Timemachine cannot open the backups older than this morning. It can see then on the right side of the screen, though. Can anyone tell me how to access these backups made under 10.6.8, please.
Another challenge will be that iPhoto does not seem to exist anymore. So if the Timemachine backup gets to work, to where would I restore photos?
    Kind regards
    Morten

Explanation is that Time Machine created a "new" backup when backup disk was first time connected after migration to Mavericks. This backup was obviously empty, i.e. only containing Mavericks but no user data. Consequently Migration assistant would find no data to migrate.
Solution was to go to Backups.backupdb on the external disk (in Finder)  and manually delete the backups created after the migration to Mavericks. Now the Migration assistant saw the backup I created just before the initial failed migration to Mavericks and could succesfully migrate all my data.
I guess you should be VERY careful with what you do manually on the backup disk, but I was out of options and the advice from the local shop worked.

  • After downloading the update ios6 my iPad is extremely slow how can this be fixed, After downloading the update iso6 my iPad is extremely slow how can this be fixed

After downloading the update for my iPad 3rd gen my iPad is extremely slow. How can this be fixed???

You may have to restore your iPad using Recovery mode, but try a reset first. Hold down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time until the Apple logo appears on the screen. Let go of the buttons when you see the logo. This takes about 10-15 seconds.
IF the update will not complete or you see the connect to iTunes message on the screen, you have to restore your iPad.
If you can't update or restore your iOS device
