Can't restore from 7.1.2 to 7.1.1

I'm having problems with iOS 7.1.2, which I've confirmed by reading other similar reports online.    I'd like to downgrade back to 7.1.1; however, despite the fact that I have the correct file (ipsw), iTunes continues to error telling me it's not compatible.   I have Verizon, iPhone 5S, CDMA.  The download package is correct.
I read the support article about debugging; none of those scenarios apply to me.  There are no blocks on my system that would prevent the update.  Obviously 7.1.2 went fine.
Does someone else know another way I can force this restore, other than an old backup (which would result in a lot of data loss since that time).
Thanks.

yes, I reported via feedback.  But, before doing so, I crawled the web to see if other reports existed (they do).
In my case, I'm noticing battery draw is worse; but also, WIFI connectivity at work is spotty.  We have tons of Cisco APs all across campus, and even in my office with 7.1.1, it was fine until the 7.1.2 update.   It's also affecting how some of my apps work, which I suspect is due to the flapping network interfaces.  Driving me nuts, which is why I looked into moving back to 7.1.1.

  • Can you restore from a backup that was made on a previous version of iOS?

    Hello.
I had an iPhone 3GS unning whatever the latest proper version of iOS currently is at the time of writing (4.3.5, is it?) but on Saturday I was on a rather drunken night out and I lost my phone.
    Silly me.
But I was out of contract and the new iPhone (4S or 5 or whatever) is going to be announced on Tuesday next week (just been confirmed by Apple today) so I'm just going to make do with an old, spare Nokia until the new iPhone is available in the UK.
Once the new iPhone launches I will buy it, plug it into iTunes and just restore from backup and I'm back in business.
Except for one thing... The new iPhone will have iOS 5 installed and my last backup before I lost my 3GS was done on iOS 4.3.5.
Is this going to be a problem or can you restore from a backup made with an older version of the OS?
I've never done it before so I don't know.
    J

You "should" have no problem doing that. I say should, because you can't restore a backup made with a higher iOS on a device running a lower iOS, I.E. - you can't restore a backup made from a device running, let's say iOS 4.3.5 on a device running iOS 4.2.10. However, iOS 5.0 will present many new features and since it has not been released, I have no way of stating with certainty that doing as you plan will not present any problems. Past history indicates it won't, but we'll have to wait & see.

  • Iphone 4 went into recovery mode when trying to restore, only option available now is to "restore and update" however this will not work, how can you restore from a backup once in recovery mode and only option is "restore and upgrade"? Please help!

iPhone 4 went into recovery mode when trying to restore it. Now the only option iTunes allows is for "restore & upgrade", it is not offer an option to restore from a backup, says that must first do the upgrade, when attempting to do the upgrade the iPhone won't accept it.
How can I restore from a back up in recovery mode when the only option is "restore and upgrade"?
    Please help.

You don't you must restore your phone first and then you will have the option to restore from your backup.

  • Can't restore from Disk Utility while booted from OS installation DVD

    I'm absolutely astounded by this.
I have a new MacBook Pro 17". I restored my files to it and in short order, had it too full/fragmented to re-partition it for Boot Camp.
So I decided to image the disk and store that image file on a FireWire drive, wipe the system disk and restore it cleanly from the image file backup, hoping that would result in contiguous blocks used so that I could then re-partition for Boot Camp.
When booted off the OS X for Intel DVD-ROM disc (10.4.6 - the one that came with my MacBook Pro), if I get out of Installer and into Disk Utility, if I select the internal hard drive and click the Restore tab, I can easily select the hard drive backup image with the button. But the "Destination Disk:" box is only accessible via dragging the disk to the box.
There's one little problem - there is no Desktop, so the disk(s) do not appear on the Desktop. There is no way to drag the target disk to be restored to into the Destination Disk: box. You cannot drag a disk out from the little sidebar inside the Disk Utility window over to the Destination box. I tried. You can't drag any disk anywhere from that sidebar. It's clear that the only way to drag a disk anywhere is if it's shown on the Desktop in Finder (which isn't running when the installation DVD-ROM is booted from). There is simply no way that I can find to restore a disk drive from a saved backup disk image when booted from the installation DVD-ROM.
Please tell me I'm ******** and missing something, or if there's a Better Way to do this. (I can't seem to run Retrospect while booted off the DVD-ROM, so I can't restore from my Retrospect full backup of the disk, either. Joy!)
(I'm really curious if there's a Better Way - especially because it appears I can't boot from an external FireWire or USB 2.0 drive, so I need something that will work in this extremely limited installation DVD-ROM booted environment, I think.)
MacBook Pro 17" dual 2.16 GHz ;   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   Booted from Mac OS X for Intel 10.4.6 installation DVD-ROM

You can use an external bootable drive with a MacBook Pro -- check your manual or the built in help. Your problem is that for some reason, you can't install a bootable system on one. There are several reasons why Installer won't enable you to do so: insufficient space, incompatible partition scheme (should be GUID) or file system (should be HFS+ or similar), or wrong installation option selected.
It is possible this is related to why you can't drag the startup volume to the destination box in Disk Utility. It must be an HFS+ variant file system.
I think you should check carefully with D.U. the partition scheme of all your drives & the file system format of all the volumes involved. Also run repair disk, as someone has already pointed out.
The behavior with the Restore function is not normal -- you should be able to drag a volume to the destination box from the list.

  • Brand new iMac, Can I restore from Time machine or start new?

My Mac Pro died a month ago so I am replacing it with a 27 Inch iMac.  I had a time machine back up on my Mac Pro.  When I get my iMac can I restore from the time machine so that I don't have to go through installing all of my programs again or should I start fresh and install everything fr

It's probably "better" to put a fresh install of everything but it certainly isn't the easiest or fastest. I'd say if everythg was running fine at the time of your last TM backup I'd restore from the TM probably using Migration Assistant. Installing and registering a bunch of software can be a pain. I've always used Migration Assistant when I get a new Mac. What happened to the Mac Pro? Is the hard drive still available? You could stick it into an external enclosure and migrate from that.

    Hi, kformagg
I would say yes. I once had the same problem (iPhone 5, IOS 7) and first restored to factory settings and after that from iCloud backup.
    It worked very well.

My iPhone has crashed during a sync and now I can't restore from backup as it is asking for password to load the backup yet neither the lock code for the phone or my iTunes Password are working... I have no other password to call upon and need the restore to retrieve info onto my phone, I am a real novice to this...... please help, !!!!

If anyone else is looking for a solution to this same problem, I was able to get it working looking through several older discussions.
The solution was to use the password that I had on my iTunes account the very first time I set up the iPhone about a year ago.  I changed my iTunes password about 10 months ago;  but apparently, the backups continue to use the password that existed when the phone was first set up.
A couple of troubling things with this are that 1) I didn't apply a password when I did the backup this afternoon so I don't understand why it was required when I did the restore a few hours later. and 2) it makes zero sense why iTunes would not be smart enough to use the current accout password when requiring the password to restore from a backup made with no password.
I thought iTunes and Apple were smarter than that.  With so many posts stating exactly the same problem, it is clear that this is bug in the software.
    Best,
    Craig

  • I backed up my bookmarks to an external drive, rebuilt my system, and now when I try to restore from that file, I get "unsupported file type" How can I restore from this file?

I backed up my bookmarks to an external drive, rebuilt my system, and now when I try to restore from that file, I get "unsupported file type" How can I restore from this file?

Make sure that the backup file with the bookmarks has the correct file extension: .html for a HTML backup and .json for a JSON backup.<br />
You can check that via the right-click context menu of that file and open the Properties.<br />
If you are not sure about the file type then you can open the file in Firefox via "File > Open File"<br />
A JSON backup will show as one long text line without line breaks and a HTML backup as a web page with clickable links.<br />
    A JSON backup starts with: {"title":"","id":1,"dateAdded":<br />
An HTML backup starts with: <nowiki><!DOCTYPE NETSCAPE-Bookmark-file-1></nowiki>
You may need to add quotes ("") around the name to rename the file to the correct file extension.

  • Renamed multiple files iTunes Match. Can I restore from time machine?

    Hi
Hopefully someone might be able to assist.
I downloaded a live album from a bands official store on their website.
After importing into my itunes library, I tried to rename the two discs so that they appeared as one album, (I've done this lots of times before).
Stupidly, I was rushing before I had to leave the house, was unaware that is actually selected 50 albums and accidently renamed  a large number of files as one album!!!
It's made slightly more complicate because I have iTunes Match and they were all stored in the cloud.
Can I restore from time machine and manually update iTunes Match?
    Amy help would be appreciated
    Thanks

when i say right clicking, i mean in itunes, right clicking the song and going get info and then changing the properties via the info tab.
yehh i done the grouping tracks together by holding down the command key.
but because i have some smart playlists with the same songs in, i changed both the genre and grouping not realising, this was ok for one smart playlist but totally messed the other up, especially because in for example "dance classics" smart playlist, there also in a folder on my hdd, . and thats the playlist i messed up., but if i drag the folder back into itunes, there all over the show on itunes and in the other playlist too, hence why it isnt as easy to easilly sort and rectify.
so what id like to do is just copy the folder again from my time machine backup, replacing the files but im unsure if this would solve it.

Can I restore from an iTunes backup after setting up as a new phone when a full reboot/restore has been carried out?

As @wjosten says. Note, however, that it is important to NOT sync the phone after resetting it. A Sync will overwrite the backup that you want to restore.

Also, were they iCloud contacts? If on a computer browser yo go to icloud.com and sign in and go to contacts are they listed? If not then restoring from iCloud backup will not restore them since the iCloud backup does not included iCloud stuff
