Can't Restore Ipod...error message

I presume I need to restore my 5th gen Ipod as I can't sync it with itunes. However I also can't restore it.
I get a 1418 error message, also had a -50 error message too.
It has worked once since i got it, i synced it with a mates computer. But I can't get it to sync with my new comp at all.
This is very frustrating as i've not been albe to use it at all. Its just a pretty external hard drive at the mo!
I take it formatting it with windows would be a very bad idea?

I HAVE A 20G IPOD THAT IS 1YEAR AND 10 MONTHS OLD. IT WILL NOT RESTORE ANYLONGER AND SHOWS THE SAD IPOD ICON. I WANTED TO SEND IT IN FOR REPAIRS BUT BECAUSE IT IS PAST THE 1 YEAR WARRANTY ALL IPOD WILL DO FOR ME IS SELL ME A REFURBISHED IPOD FOR $271.94. IPOD SHOULD RECALL THE IPODS THAT ARE FREEZING AND SKIPPING SONGS THAT ARE NO LONGER ABLE TO BE RESTORED. I CANNOT FIND ANYONE TO REPAIR MY IPOD OTHER THAN APPLE JUST WANTING ME TO BUY A REFURBISHED ONE THAT COSTS ABOUT $30 LESS THAN THE BRAND NEW ONE I BOUGHT 1YEAR AND 10 MONTHS AGO. I AM VERY DISSAPPOINTED WITH APPLE IPOD AND I WILL NOT BUY THEIR PRODUCTS AGAIN.

  • Can't mount iPod error message

Hi, I am trying to fix a feezing problem on my iPod (on startup the display shows a folder with an exclamation mark) and was trying to do a factory restore on it when I ran into the following error messages.
Installing the latest version of Updater, I tried connecting the iPod and then saw a Windows error message that said:
    Cannot Install this Hardware
There was a problem installing this hardware
    Apple iPod USB Device
An error occurred during the installation of the device
The specified service does not exist as an installed service
After seeing this error message, Updater then displayed the next error message:
    Can't mount iPod
Can someone suggest how I can fix this so the iPod is recognized and I can have Updater restore the factory settings?
    Thanks in advance,

  • Can't add music. Can't restore. Error messages galore.

A few weeks ago my husband plugged in his iPod Classic 160GB into my iBook. It began to sync music, as per usual. After a short time there was an error message basically saying it couldn't sync "cannot create/read/write" or something to that effect (says my husband who is driving me up the wall for weeks about this but won't post here and ask for help).
There are other messages that (he says) say things such as "disc cannot be found" and another saying "file is being used/busy", also getting "cannot restore iPod/files not found", and a plethora of related messages. We own three other iPod's which are used with the same iBook (nano and shuffle's). All three sync, and are working, perfectly fine.
It was not dropped. Not exposed to harsh elements. It has not suffered any physical damage. Please, please, please help, if you can. Thank you.
    * He just decided to share with me he has tried resetting it many times and received error messages on those attempts.
Tried restore and after an hour into synching error messages would begin and only 1/3 of the music would be on the iPod.
Tried enabling disc use, same error messages.
Tried the suggestion of plugging another device in an open USB port while trying to sync, still error messages.

Why not? We would need to know what you mean in order to help you....

  • PC does not recognize Ipod - Can't mount IPOD error message

    Hello everyone,
I was wondering if anyone experienced the same problem with their Ipod as I have. I have tried to play songs on my Ipod through the shuffle songs function but it does not work. The Ipod tries to play one song; however, it will not play it and then it will continue to the next which won't play either and this continues until I just shut off my Ipod. I have tried resetting it and also reinstalling Itunes but it does not help the problem.
A second problem is that my Windows PC does not recognize my Ipod when I plug it in. I have tried so many things to try and solve this including trying to restore my IPOD using the updater but when I keep getting the error message "Can't mount IPOD".
If anyone knows what I can do to try to fix this I am greatly in your debt!
    Thanks!

I had the same problem. Now I have many new ones. Here goes the chain of events 1st iPod did the same exact thing:
    1. Was going along my marry way listening to music
    2. Music stops playing
    3. I look to find my iPod cycling throughe very song but playing none... for an hour.
    4. I turn it off.
    5. I get home to attempt to restore it but when I plug it up to the computer, it is not recognized, cannot mount, ect.
    6. I continue trying to find a way, then it stops going to the "Do Not Disconnect" screen.
    7. Well I try it later on today, like 20 mins ago and it does it! Yay! but then it resets itself and it now rests on the apple logo and Windows does not recognize the USB device.
Oh yeah, did I mention I made the trade and got this one SATURDAY. Yeah so it's already broken.
    any suggestions?

  • Can't sync iPod - Error Message: "disc cannot be read from or written to"

My ipod had been working fine until recently when every time I try and sync it I get the following error message:
"Attempting to copy to the disk "iPod" failed. The disk could not be read from or written to"
I have tried all suggestions in Apple's support article for this issue but nothing works. Does anyone else have this problem or know how to solve it?
    Thanks a lot.

    Hi all,
I am sorry to report that I too have this same disc error problem when syncing my iPod to my iTunes library. I take no comfort in knowing that I am one of many that have this same error. I checked on the iPod lounge forum and I just couldn't count the number of users that had the same problem. There are just so many!
I too have tried "5 r's" and I have also tried using a few "s" words and others...lol.
It seems like there is no "fix" for this problem but I will say this: If there is no solution, then I will no longer be buying iPods. This is my third iPod that I have purchased. Which makes my Apple investment near the thousand dollar mark. That is way too much money spent to not have a functioning music player. I will be switching to another player to see if the grass is greener on the other side.
I have been most dissappointed with this error and I will not be "recycling" this iPod for ten percent off of my next iPod purchase.

  • Can't Restore Ipod Error 1433

Can't get itunes 7.6 to restore my ipod. Getting an unknown error (1433). Any help?

Correction - I just tried a fourth time and it worked. I let the iPod power off, then turned it on and launched iTunes before connecting the iPod to my computer. I don't know if that's what made the difference, but it did work this time.

  • Can't Restore iPod - Get Message.............

"There was a problem downloading the iPod software for the iPod “iPod”. The requested resource was not found."
Updated iTunes and get the summary screen in iTunes, but when I click on restore I get the message above. What gives? iPod seems to still have all my songs on it but plays not so well. When first plugged into laptop iTunes advised that iPod was corrupted.

Try assigning your iPod a different drive letter, following the steps here:
Windows confuses iPod with network drive or hard drive
Also, try connecting your iPod to all of your USB ports, and see if there is any difference.

  • Can not restore IPOD error 1439

I have tried everything to restore the harddrive it keeps telling me it is corupted I go through all the steps and I get error 1439?
    Help

I had a similar problem, error 1439 when restoring.  Fixing it was as simple as plugging my iPod into one of my PC's rear USB ports, not the front panel ones.  I then had a follow-up problem where it couldn't restore because the some files were already in use but restarting my PC sorted that out.
No idea why - the front panel ones work fine for everything else, but I guess my iPod is fussy.

  • When I update my nano ipod I get an error message "User ipod cannot be updated.  The disk couldnot be read from or written to."   How can I overcome this error message.

In the iTunes window, when I update my nano ipod, I get an error message "User ipod cannot be updated.  The disk could not be read from or written to."   How can I overcome this error message.

    Hello there dilip77707,
It sounds like you are getting this error message that your iPod cannot be read from or written to when you are trying to update your iPod Nano. I recommend the troubleshooting from the following article to help you get that resolved. Its pretty straight forward, just start at the top and work your way down as needed:
'Disk cannot be read from or written to' when syncing iPod or 'Firmware update failure' error when updating or restoring iPod
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the very best,
    Sterling

    Error 9
This error occurs when the device unexpectedly loses its USB connection with iTunes. This can occur if the device is manually disconnected during the restore process. This issue can be resolved by performing USB troubleshooting, using a different USB dock-connector cable, trying another USB port, restoring on another computer, or by eliminating conflicts from third-party security software.

  • Sad faced Ipod error message (click wheel ipod classic)

I've had the sad faced ipod error message with my ipod before and forcing into disk mode has always solved it before.
It's not showing up in itunes or my computer when I connect it to my laptop.
I have tried forcing it into disk mode time and time again and about one time out 40 it will go into disk mode. The problem comes when I then plug into the computer to restore it. It will start telling me do not disconnect then give me the error message of a battery with little power left.
It is definatly charged because I have been trying to get it into disk mode all day and on the occasions I've managed to get there it will tell me i have 3quarters or so battery remaining. However when I am plugging it into the docking station it isnt coming up to say its charging it just goes over and over with the apple logo then the sad faced ipod message.
I have tried 4 different usb cables and 2 different chargers.
Its driving me mad and any help would be greatly appreciated. I dont want my ipod to be dead.

I have been using that page, I was hoping that as id managed to get it into disk mode a few times that it might not be a harware issue.
Its about 2 years out of warrenty so a service will probably cost the same as a new one

  • "disk can not be erased" error message on Time Machine back up

I keep getting a "disk can not be erased" error message as I try to restore a recently repaired computer from Time Machine Backup. I did a Disk Verify and Permissions Verify. No help.
    Help!

Use migrate rather than whatever it is you are doing.. TM has loads of limitations and I suspect you are trying to do something that is not allowed. like recover from an older to a more recent OS..
Read the info from Pondini about recovery and migrate here.
    http://pondini.org/TM/Home.html
It is somewhat out of date but still useful.
No luck tell us what version OS is in the backup and what version is now on the computer.

how can i stop an error message that comes up when i am using word? the error message is "word is unable to save the Autorecover file in the location specified. Make sure that you have specified a valid location for Autoreover files in Preferences,…"

It sounds like if you open Preferences in Word there will be a place where you can specify where to store autorecover files. Right now it sounds like it's pointing to somewhere that doesn't exist.
