Can't restore my iPod Touch 2G or update it. Help?

I plugged it in to upgrade to 3.1.2 and it got stuck in recovery mode so i waited until the download was complete and at 1sec remaining it keeps stopping and coming up with an error. Have downloaded twice now and it keeps coming up so i downloaded an older version of the software and it worked and installed but it wouldnt let me restore to update it. Any suggestions

YaHOO!!! I tried the recovery again today (just hoping they had fixed the bug in update) and it looks like it worked! It resored from my back up (thank goodness I had one) and is now in the process of syncing.

Hi and thank you for helping as this is urgent.
I forgot my passcode for my iPod, and guessed it to many times so it got disabled.
The problem is I don't have iTunes and can't get it on my laptop, but need to restore my device. Right now on the screen it has a photo of a USB cord, an arrow, and the iTunes symbol. So, how can I restore my iPod touch without my passcode or iTunes?

Right now you can't without a computer. Once you get to a computer you can restore it using DFU mode.

You should probably disable the autosync functionality first by going to Edit -> Preferences, clicking the Devices tab, and enabilng the prevent iPods,iPhones, and iPads from automatically syncing option.
Next, authorize the new computer with your iTunes Account. In iTunes, choose Store -> Authorize This Computer and enter in the correct credentials.
If possible, either copy a backup file from your old computer to your new one or create a new backup of your iPod in iTunes before letting it sync. To do this, right->click on your iPod Touch from under the Devices section in the left hand pane of iTunes and choose Backup. You might also want to take a look at this article to see what it all included in the backup.

Now onto synced content such as music, videos, photos, etc. For iTunes purchases you can copy them back into iTunes by choosing File -> Transfer Purchases. I tryed to sync my ipod touch 4 Gen. and for some reason I got An ipod has been detected,but it could not be identified properly. please disconnect and reconnect the ipod then try again, I did that 3 times then I got I need to Restore it back factory settings.
Now I am getting the ipod could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (2003) what should I be doing I did check for updates for the computer got some and then did a restart, still have this problem and I can't use my ipod touch at this point.

If problem what happens or does not happen and when in the instructions? When you successfully get the iPod in recovery mode and connect to computer iTunes should say it found an iPod in recovery mode.
If you previously synced to the computer then you may be able to recover use of the iPod without erasing the iPod by following the instructions here:

I just bought my iPod Touch (4th Generation 8GB) from my friend and the home button doesn't work. Then, my parents took it away for about 6 months and I just got it back and I forgot my password. P.S. It's jailbroken, but the damage isn't due to Cydia. Also, I can't put it into DFU mode since the home button is broken.
