Can't restore network connectivity to Airport Express

I have both a wired network, and a wireless network at home. The wired network is provided by a DSL model connected to an EtherFast Cable/DSL router. The wireless network is provided by an Airport Express that is plugged into the the router.
A while back there was a software update for the Airport. After installing the update, I lost my wireless network, and I have been trying to restore it.
I performed a factory reset on the Airport Express. This allows me to see it when I run Airport Utility on my Power Mac system, which is connected to the wired network.
The router is set so that I specify IP addresses for each of my system rather than using something like DHCP. I tried messing around with the setup for the Airport Express, and nothing I tried would get it to work after it Airport Utility updated the base station and restarted it. I was finally able to make some headway with this by manually assigning the base station and IP address, and having it create a wireless network.
After resetting the base station, it came up, and now has a solid green light. I was able to join my iBook to the network it created. However the iBook cannot access the Internet nor any of the other systems on my wired network.
The base station shows up when I run Airport Utility from the iBook. Airport Utility from the Power Mac can no longer find it.
What can I try that will allow me to restore network connectivity to my wireless network?

If it's an older 802.11b/g router you can't use the AirPort Utility on iPhone to configure it. Use the AirPort utility for Mac or Windows. You have many more configuration options using the desktop software as well. The utility on the iPhone is very basic.

  • Airplay is stop working but network connection ok: airport express

    Hi,
I hope someone could help me, I can't find the solution.
I have an airport express which I use for internet access and airplay.
Sometimes when I awake (from sleep mode) my MBP (running OSX 10.6.8) airplay doesn't work anymore. It means Itunes says that remote speaker airport express cannot be found and airport utility can't find the airport express either. But internet connection still works perfectly!
So I have to reboot the MBP to get back my airplay service, the problem seems to be on the mac.
I have updated airport utility and airport express to the latest firmware, so I don't have any other idea.
    Would you have ideas?
    Thanks!

Found the fix under a different search. Turns out the Linksys router was blocking the iTunes. Have no idea why it would show up momentarily and then disappear though. In any event, the fix is:
I have a wired Ethernet network and run through a Linksys cable/DSL 4-port router. Model #BEFSR41. Here's how we fixed the problem step-by-step:
    1) Open a browser window and access the router control panel by typing in 192.168.1.1
    2) Click on the "Security" button at the top of the screen
    3) There are two subnav options under Security. Click on "Filter IP" (I believe it's already highlighted.)
    4) At the bottom of that page, there is a set of four or five radio buttons. One of them says "Filter Multicast". Mine was disabled. CLICK THIS TO ENABLED.
This fix comes directly from this post about getting Apple TV to work:

Hope this helps anyone else who has this problem!

  • Network connection to airport express fails

All of a sudden I can no longer stream music to my airport expresses. (I have two). Some times I get a (unknown error occured 1500) error. I am running windows xp. How do I trouble shoot / fix this problem?
I can send stream music from my ipod and ipad to my A/P expresses.

Well the answer is found elswhere in these forums.
The newest vesion of iTunes require you to open udp port 6002 in your Windows firewall. Once that is done everything works as advertised.
Nice of Apple to let us know about this change -- not.

  • Can I create a home network withous dsl connection with airport express

can I create a home network without dsl connection with airport express?
So it means I can't connect to my HP Airprint/Wireless printer without exretnal connection through ISP?? Just need to print from my Mac and iphone. I have Vodafone Prepaid connection, which is directly connected to my Mac. Does that make an internal network possible?

You have to set up the Air Port with an internet connection to set up a network. Do you have a modem? If yes you can set up the network.

The ZyXEL P-2601HN-F1, as you know, is a combination DSL modem & 802.11n wireless router (or gateway device).
For your goal you will want to take a look at this Apple Support article for details on how to configure an AX for iTunes.
If you are still having difficulties with the AX joining the ZyXEL's wireless network, you can try the following:
    Temporarily disable wireless encryption.
If you are hidding the SSID, disable that feature.
Change the Mode Select setting to: 802.11g Only
Change the Channel Selection from "Auto" to a set channel, like 1, 6, or 11

  • Can I extend my network by connecting one of my airport express devices to my airport extreme via an ethernet cable? I have CAT5 cable throughout my house but have a wireless network w/ 3 airport expresses

Can I extend my wireless network by connecting one of my airport express devices to my airport extreme via an ethernet cable?  I have a wireless network with 3 airport expresses and 1 airport extreme functioning as the base station. I have CAT5 throughout my house.

    Welcome to the discussions, mib88!
Can I extend the network a second time with another Airport Express...
The short answer would be no. If you want more details, please continue to the next paragraph.
Apple's "extend a wireless network" works just like the hub and spokes of a wheel. Your main hub is either the Time Capsule or the AirPort Extreme and the AirPort Express is at the end of a spoke. You can add more devices at the ends of other spokes, but these devices will communicate directly to the hub, not to another device at the end of a spoke.
Apple does offer an option which is is known as a "static WDS", which can consist of a "main", "relay" and "remote" device. The problem here is that this type of setup has two huge drawbacks:
    1) All of your faster "n" devices will drop down to much slower "g" speeds
    2) The bandwidth or speed capability on the network will drop down to only 25% of the original bandwidth with a "main", "relay" and "remote" on the network.
Don't think you want this on your network. Your best option is to connect the new AirPort Express to the "hub" using an ethernet connection. If you can't run the ethernet cable, take a look at a pair of ethernet powerline adapters to accomplish the same task by sending the ethernet signal over the AC powerline in your home.

  • Iphone will not connect to airport express extended network - macbook and ipad will - Help

Iphone will not connect to airport express extended network - macbook and ipad will without problems.
iphone will connect to base station no problems, I've restored settings and started again but still the same, the iphone picked up the network for the last couple of months, but not now ?

I'm having the same issue. My AExpress used to give a good signal strength on the far side of the house extending he network created by my Extreme. However, I've noticed lately that my iPhone does not receive the same strong signal it once did. AE has a green light, I've rebooted it, and my Extreme but there is no change in signal strength. Other than the green light, how can I tell if the Express is working if I don't get a good network signal?

  • IMac G5 (Rev. A) can't connect to AirPort Express

We have 2 Macintosh computers at home; one Mac mini G4 1.42GHz (model M9687LL/B) with built in AirPort Extreme card; and one iMac G5 (Rev. A) 1.6 GHz (model M9363LL/A) also with an AirPort Extreme card.
The mini was bought new, while the iMac was used when we bought it. When we bought it, the company (who were selling old Macitosh computers previously rented to other companies) installed and additional 512 MB of RAM (on top of the 256MB already in it) as well as the AirPort Extreme card. We then upgraded the OS from 10.3.9 Panther to 10.4.4 Tiger. Then we used a FireWire cable to copy the harddrive of my dads work computer (iMac G4) to the new one. We then took it home.
At home we had a linksys wireless router (model BEFW11S4) which we used to connect to the internet. Connected to this wireless network was an AirPort Express unit which we used to stream music to the downstairs stereo. However, the linksys router caused many problems, one of them being that everytime we started a computer, the router needed to be restarted to be able to send a signal so we could connect to the internet.
Eventually, we got feed up with this, and took the AirPort Express unit upstairs and replaced the linksys with it. We installed it, and it worked fine. Upstairs (location of Mac mini, the signal strength was always 4 or 3 (the little icon in the menu bar), but downstairs (where the iMac's located), the signal stayed at about 3, or sometimes 2.
After about a week, the downstairs signaled started to be more 2 than 3, but this made no real difference to us, since it still worked. Then, yesterday, it went down to 1, but still worked. Then, today, it stayed at 1, then totally disconnected. When we click the symbol in the menu bar, we can press on the wireless network to tell the computer to connect to it, but it only comes up with a box saying that the computer could not connect to it.
We have tried more or less everything to get it to work. Turning on and off the AirPort Extreme card in the computer, updating the AirPort Express firmware, restarted computers, the whole lot! But it still wont work!
My dad has borrowed an old iBook with a G3 800MHz processor running 10.3.9 Panther. The iBook has an AirPort card in it (not AirPort Extreme), but even downstairs, it gets full (or sometimes 3) connection. I even tried the basement, and it still works!
So my question is, why won't the iMac even connect to the network? Any help is greatly appreciated!
    iMac G5, 1.6GHz, 768MB, AirPort Express   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

I'm having a very similar problem with my iMac. I moved the airport down to the basement last week. Reception was at 3, but droped quickly to 2 and 1 and eventually the iMac lost the connection to the airport.
I brought the airport back to the office where the iMac is located and where the airport used to be, but I was unable to join the network again, even though the signal was received by the computer. I downloaded a widget for the dashboard that showed full strength of the signal.
While having these problems with the iMac, I don't have any problems connecting with my iBook to the network. Since I was able to connect to the airport via the iBook, I changed some of the settings, but nothing really helped except disabling wireless security. Agter that I was able to connect to the network via the iMac again, but only for a couple of minutes until the network disappeared again.
I'm reading about lots of other people having problems with the airport recently. So I suspect that this has to do with the recent OS X update. Hopefully somebody at Apple is looking at this problem right now!

  • How can I print from my IPAD3 to a printer connected to Airport Express?

How can I print from my IPAD3 to a printer connected to Airport Express? I have a HP printer and I can print from all my Windows PC and iMAC in the house. How can I print from my IPaD?

    You cannot.
The USB port on the AirPort Express allow sharing a printer with Windows and Mac OS X, not with iOS:
"Wireless printing over USB requires a compatible printer and OS X v10.2.7 or later, Windows XP, Windows Vista, or Windows 7":
    http://www.apple.com/airportexpress/#wireless-printing
"AirPrint-enabled printers  connected using Bluetooth or shared through a USB port of a Mac, PC, AirPort Base Station, or Time Capsule are not supported":
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4356
The HP ePrint app also does not provide such functionality:
Can I print from the HP ePrint mobile app using USB or Bluetooth?
No. You can only print directly to supported HP printers on a local wireless network.

  • Can I share a USB drive connected to Airport Express

I know that you can with the Extreme Base Station. Just curious if a drive connected to the
Express would show up as a shared network drive

    no.
airport express does not support connecting external drives to it. essentially, it's printers only.

  • Airport can't connect to Airport Express

I just purchased a used PowerBook G4 (Titanium) 1GHz with an Airport card built in. The card recognizes the Airport Express but whenever I put in my password it says that the "connection failed". I know I am typing in the correct password and the caps lock is not on. It does the same thing when trying to connect to other sources as well (i.e. Panera Bread, etc...). I don't think anything is wrong with the Airport card since it is able to recognize the Express so I have no clue.
Will the Airport Express recognize the regular Airport card? I'm assuming it can since I've read several instances where Airport is mentioned both online and in the manual. Is there a limit to how many computers can wirelessly connect to the Express at one time? I currently have two computers connected wirelessly to the Express right now (an iMac and an iBook).
BTW: I just upgraded to Leopard and the problem was evident before I did this.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

I have the same computer (with building AirPort Card) for the last 4 years, and I use WPA Personal home network with both AirPort Express and AEBS 2003 Version. It should be no problem for you to share the same network with two computers at the same time. I have broadband TV that connects use ethernet cable to my AEBS while I use my PB wirelessly downloading files from online, at the same space an iBook connects to my wireless network browsing online.
I used to encounter strange AirPort login problems just like the one you have. You can read a related post about Automatic Connect? that I have commented about.

I also suggest to reset your Keychain Access preferences and trash caches from your computer, and use Disk Utility to repair permissions. You can use a great utility called Onyx (works well on Leopard) to trash caches and fix some weird problems from your used machine.

    Hope this helps. Good Luck!

  • Can't connect to Airport Express using Linksys WRE54g?

I am having problem connecting to Airport Express using Linksys WRE54G, under the following circumstances.
    Here's my setup.
I am using Linksys WAG200G modem/wireless router in the studies. My house is fairly big and very weak signal in living room. Hence I added Linksys WRE54G Wireless-G Range Expander in living room.
I have two HiFi. One in studies and the other in living room. macbook and external HDD where I store all my musics sit in studies.
I use Airport Express (AE1) to stream music from macbook to studies HiFi. Works fine.
So I connect AE1 to living room HiFi. Macbook still in studies. The problem is iTunes cannot connect to AE1 now. However I still able to detect AE1, open/change settings using Airport Utility on macbook in the studies.
Now I bring macbook to living room. AE1 works!
What I intend to setup is,
    1. WAG200G, macbook and external HDD in my studies.
    2. AE1 connect to studies HiFi. I am planning to get another Airport Express for living room HiFi.
    3. Control the playlist using iPhone Remote and listen music in living room.
    Question:
    1. Did iTunes connect directly to Airport Express without going thru network router?
    2. How should I setup Airport Express in this case?
Appreciate anyone who can help me on this. Thank you.

    pss.
actually, is it possible to do what i'm trying to do... the guy in the Apple store said that i can connect to the Netgear router for my internet connection, and Airfoil can separately connect to the Airport Express to play music...
the way i've set it up so far, i can do either, but i can't do both... or do i need to somehow connect both wireless stations together...??

  • Can not stay connected to Airport express

I have an airport exress that is less then 9 months old.  I have my internet provide wirlessely so my macbook pro picks up the signal and i share it with the airport exress.  With the AE set to bridge mode.  This was all working fine for the last 3 months, but now for some reason I can not stay connected with any of my devices wirelessly with the AE.  I try to connect with my Iphone 4s and when i click on the network to connect i never recieve a check mark on the left all it does is give me the moving circle.  I try to search the web on the phone and it will work for a second then not work for who know how long then work for a second ect.... i have hard rebooted the AE, reset network settings in my phone, reset smc and pram.  when i access the ae through airport utility on my mac the internet shows green and the AE show amber becuase it says it does not have a valid ip address.  I access the AE from my phone and the AE shows the same and the internet will go from green to amber and back.  Also it will not stay connected to the AE i try to change setting on the AE through my phone and as long as i do it quickly it works fine, but if i wait anylonger then 10-30 seconds the phone drops the AE and i have to start over even though it will pick it up again with in  a second or two.  this is the same for ipad, three iphones, dell computer, and a android phone.

Simply reconfigure your Airport Express to either use for airtunes only or to extend the range of the existing network. This effectively connects the Airport Express to your main wireless router as a basic access node rather than a separate router creating its own network.
If you consult the User Guide that came with your Airport Express you'll find additional information on how to setup an Express to simply extend a local wireless network rather than function independently.

    Thanks for the quick reply.
So am I correct in saying trying to utilise the Airport Express to access the printer over the network was a wasted effort due to the latest iOS? I had read up on the express before purchase and believed that was one of it's main purposes.
    Thanks again for the help.
