Can't restore recent bookmark tag, despite restoring recent tags and most visited

Hi there, I recently lost my 'recent bookmarks' and 'recent tags' from my bookmarks folder. I searched help on the forums and followed the advice to restore the smart bookmarks folder (going to about:config, double-clicking on the smartbookmarks link, setting the value to 0 and re-starting) and whilst this brought back the 'most visited' tag to the toolbar (which I was happy not to have) and the 'recent tags' to my bookmark menu (which again, I don't really want), it hasn't brought back 'recent bookmarks', which is the one I actually want!
If anyone can help, I'd be grateful.

thanks so much. When I tried to restore it previously (via about:config as you suggest), I'd read somewhere that I should right-click on browser.places.smartBookmarksVersion and change the value from 7 to 0, which is what I did. That brought back the 'most visited' tag and recent tag, but not the recently bookmarked.
But I've just followed your advice, via the link you gave, and instead of changing the value to 0, I right-clicked and just selected 'reset' and that's sorted it. I have my recently bookmarked tag back.

You can create new smart bookmarks if you can't restore them.

Bookmarks have reverted to previous state after sync message "encountered an error while syncing: unknown error." Is there some way I can recover my most recent bookmarks inclusive of changes recently made? I haven't exported/backed up recently, FYI.

I had a folder that was a part of firefox in the book marks are called Recently Bookmarked. It has now disappeared and i would like to know how to get it back?

This folder was not one I created, but it appeared to be a part of the bookmark area. It save all recently saved book marks and was called "Recently Bookmarked". I used this feature last night and this morning when I went to use fire fox, it is gone.
I tried restarting Firefox and it still has not fixed the problem. My question is, How do I get this feature back or how do I create a folder where everything I book mark goes into the folder until I can sort the book marks into the proper folders? thank you for your help

Can i increase the number of selections that appear when the 'most visited' icon is clicked on?

When I click on the 'most visited' icon I get ten selections. Is there a way to increase the number of selections to 20 or 30?

be sure to read all replies, you will have to restart Firefox to make the "smart bookmark folder" created as a bookmark look and act like a folder.

I can't get the bookmarks toolbar up that has tags for 'new foder' etc

On Firefox I don't have the toolbar that has tabs for 'new folder' etc, in fact I can only create new folders when I am bookmarking a new page.

My computer crashed but I was able to rescue my files. How can I transfer my bookmarks from the old Firefox browser and install them in the new computer? I can't find the bookmark file in the old browser.

I'm transferring my files from a HP laptop to a Dell desktop because the HP crushed. I installed Firefox 8 in the Dell computer (I had the Firefox 5 -I believe- in the HP). I'm looking for the old bookmarks file in the old computer but I don't find them. Where are they? I'll appreciate your help because I had a pretty good collection of bookmarks. Sadly I didn't back up them on time.

How can I move the "Latest Headlines" and "Most Visited" items from the right of the tab bar to the left?

I accidently moved these items (and deleted "History") and can't get them back on the left side of the tab bar.

Didn't you look in the View menu (View > Toolbars > Customize)?

You need to be in customize mode if you want to make changes to the toolbars.

I have lost the top three lines (toolbars?), containing File, Edit, etc; back button, home, etc; and most visited, etc. How can I get them back?

How do I get the "Bookmarks" button to be on the left and the "Most Visited" button on the right? I just want to swap them.

The "Bookmarks Toolbar" will allow me to move my bookmarks anywhere along it, but it has two fixed buttons of its own: "Bookmarks" and "Most Visited." They are fixed at opposite ends of the toolbar, Most Visited to the left, Bookmarks to the right. I would like to swap them, resulting in Bookmarks being on the left side and Most Visited being on the right.
I've tried dragging them, but it will not allow it.
I've selected "Customize..", but the entire toolbar collapses into a single icon, with no access to the buttons inside.

Lost bookmarks,only recent ones showing, the restore dates don't restore

Flashplayer had crashed. After rebooting and doing other things. I went to look at All Bookmarks and nothing was there. All I could get was under recent bookmarks. I went to import and backup and it didn't show the large number of bookmarks that I had under each of the dates, it showed around 45, I tried to restore those as of a recent date and afterwards nothing still shows under all bookmarks, but about 8 show up under recent bookmarks. How can I get all of them to appear under all bookmarks?

In the Library dialog, could you check the Unsorted Bookmarks folder?
To open the Library dialog, you can use either:
* Ctrl+Shift+b
* Bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks
In the left column, you should see three "containers":
* Bookmarks Toolbar
* Bookmarks Menu
* Unsorted Bookmarks
The missing bookmarks might be in the third container. You can drag them to the menu.
Regarding the Restore feature, how far back do the backups go (dates listed on the menu)?

Can no longer save a new bookmark directly to one of my foldersin bookmarks w/o saving, then dragging it from recently bookmarked. Any way to go back to old style of brining up list of folders in the gray box when adding a new bookmark?

Until a recent update in Firefox, I could always save a new bookmark to the folder of my choice by using the drop down list in the gray box that comes up when I chose to bookmark a site. Now only a few of my folders - probably most recents - show up and I can't seem to access the whole list. I now have to go to "recently bookmarked" and drag the bookmark from there to the folder of choice. Any way to restore the ability to make it a one stop save to my folders like I used to? Thanks.

No, I see the three areas at the bottom of the Bookmark area that you refer to, but that also highlights an issue. When I want to save a story to my Reading List and click on Share then "Add to Reading List" then go back to look at what is stored in the Reading List, my recently-saved item is not there.
I looked thru the History tab and the Reading List tab and have been in the Bookmark tab. But even when I Save a Bookmark, that newly-saved Bookmark does not show up in the Bookmark area.
But then again, the next day (and actually just in the last half-hour) all of the functionality came back. When I look at the Bookmarks, suddenly, again, all of the Bookmarks that are on my Safari browser on my iMac are now there, and I can now Save a Bookmark.
It keeps coming in and out and that is what is driving me a little nuts.

It is possible that you forgot to add a file extension (.json) while saving and in that case you may be looking for the wrong file.
Also make sure that you search for hidden files and folder in case the file was saved in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Firefox Profile Folder]
Firefox won't import the file without a .json file extension ("Can't process ..."), but you can create a backup with any name.

Restarting Firefox and rebooting the computer did not help.

1. Open the Library (Ctrl+Shift+B).
