Can't restore with iTunes.
Tried to update my iPhone to the latest and Greatest iOS and it failed causing me to restore to factory settings. No biggie, I would just restore the backup just taken in iTunes, right. When I tried to Restore it asked me to enter a password then claims the password is incorrect. I have tried every password under the sun and then even changed the password through iTunes. Still gives same error. I really need my backup restored. Apple Support wants to charge me to help me with their product issue. Can anyone provide a solution here?

Reboot computer. Open iTunes on computer. Connect iPhone to computer with USB cable. Hold both home and power buttons until iTunes recognizes iPhone in Recovery Mode. IPod touch got wet, can not restore with iTunes
I have a first generation 16 GB iPod touch that wicked up water over night from a glass surface. I didn't notice the water until morning when I picked up the iPod. I tried to turn it on but it was dead.
I dried it out using a desk lamp until moisture was no longer visible under the screen. I connected the computer and the dead battery/charging icon appeared.
Once the iPod received a few minutes of charge the display changed to 'Connect to I-tunes". I open iTunes and it displays that "an iPod in recovery mode has been detected" and to restore the device. I press restore and iTunes downloads and extracts the software, but either of the following errors occur...
1. I-tunes tries to communicate and say's 'waiting for iPod', at which time the iPod has the apple logo and the spinning circle. This continues until the iPod is disconnected, and then iTunes says "the iPod could not be restored, an unknown error has occurred (9)".
2. When iPod is in DFU mode and I open iTunes, It recognizes an iPod in recovery mode and sends commands to the iPod for recovery, iTunes then waits for the iPod and it's display stays black. When the iPod is disconnected iTunes says "An iPod has been detected, but it could not be identified properly. Please disconnect and reconnect the iPod, then try again. An unknown error has occurred (1601). When disconnected and reconnected the computed makes the usb device connected but iTunes doesn't see the device until iTunes is restarted.
3. I 'shift' click the restore after iTunes recognizes an iPod in recovery mode. I point iTunes to "iPod1,11.1.1_3A110arestore.jpsw" (which is the version it came with) and it almost immediately gives me an error, "The iPod could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (20)".
Since I am getting prompts on the iPod, I am hopeful to start a restore somehow... Is this asking too much ? Is there another way to start a restore ? Or is this something that can be fixed by sending it in for repair ?
Thanks KindlyIf it was just plain water it may eventually work again. But..... you broke several rules for trying to save wet equipment: you should never use heat in an attempt to dry and you should never try to charge it or connect it to your computer.
Slow drying out may be accomplished but putting your touch in a jar with silica gel packs (if you can find them) or plain white rice (NOT 'minute rice'). Then wait!!! several days.
Or is this something that can be fixed by sending it in for repair ?
Your touch has built-in moisture indicators (one is the white patch at the end of the headphone jack). If your touch shows signs of moisture, you will not be covered by the Apple warranty.
Have a little patience and with luck it will work again.

I have windows 8 enterprise OS and iTunes ver. 10.5.0.142. I was upgrading my iPad to IOS 6.1.3. After finishing the upgrade my iPad Reboot and currently stucked-up in a plug-in screen and iTunes Logo. When I try to connect it to the iTunes pop-up message appear saying " iTunes has detected iPad in recovery mode. You must restore this iPad before it can be used with iTunes." In short, I push the restore button then another pop-up message appear saying " The iPad software update server could not be contacted. Make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active, or try again later." I tried many ways but still no luck. I repeatedly reboot the iPad and open the iTunes still the same problem. I try also to uninstall the iTunes and installed the lower version but still the same problem, I even check the firewall if the ITunes was block or My privileges is administrator to run the iTunes or even reset my winsock but the problem still remain. before getting on the plane. In the hotel about 48hrs later I opened my iPad it
read the message: “iPad is disabled,
connect to iTunes.”
To my knowledge myself, nor anyone else has tried to access my device or

I started by updating my iTunes account on my computer to the latest version.
Then multiple times I attempted
the “Use recovery mode”
steps.
e.g.
1. Turn off your device and leave it off.
2. Plug in your device's USB cable to a computer with iTunes.
3. Hold down the Home button on your device as you connect the USB
cable. Keep holding down the Home button until you see the Connect to iTunes
screen.
I received the message on my computer saying “iTunes has detected an iPad in recovery mode. You must restore this iPad before it can be used with iTunes.”
I click the “Restore iPad” button.
During which time the progress bar on my computer’s iTunes
screen was moving very slowly and other times seemed like it wasn’t moving at
all. I would leave my two devices and attached by the cable and upon returning
I would find that the process would have ended before it had completed.
Initially I thought it was a connections issue because I was in remote
locations with slow internet servers. Since being home I have re-attempted the
process and have been able to fully complete the forced recovery but I will
receive a message saying:
“The iPad could not be restored. The disk you are attempting to use is full.
Removing files and emptying the recycle bin will free up additional space.”
What recycle bin is the message referring to? Obviously I CANNOT access any
data on the iPad itself. Just for the **** of it, I did empty my computers
recycle bin and re-attempted the forced recovery process but as I suspected it
did nothing for the iPad and I still received the same message: “The iPad
could not be restored. The disk you are attempting to …”

After iOS is installed you will be asked if you what to set it up as a new iPod or if you want to restore from a backup.
If you have a good backup you can restore that and you're good to go.
If you don't have a good backup, then you end up with a "clean" iPod.... -
What do I do about this message? I've restored it 3 times, but this message still comes up, and i cannot put music on it now.
iTunes has detected an iPod that appears to be corrupted. You may need to restore this iPod before it can be used with iTunes. You may also try disconnecting and reconnecting the iPod.Sounds like your iPod is broken. Take it to Apple or someone else who repairs iPods and see if you can get it fixed, or get it replaced.

During recovery on iPhone 4 I got : The iPhone could not be restored. Un unknown error occurred ( 3004 ). Then - iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode. when I power on it shows go itune logo starts. Then I tried to download restore and update it shows Tunes has detected an iphone in recovery mode. It also happened to me. What I did was to put my USB connector at the back of my PC (the main USB port) then I open my iTunes again and Viola, it solves my problem.

i was downloading the latest software upgrade when the message "Itunes has detected an Iphone in recovery mode. You must restore this phone before it can be used with Itunes" came up. My option of I phone recovery mode says that it will restore the Iphone to factory mode losing all information.

Has anyone been able to restore their iphone after updating on itunes?Probably over 200 million people have been able to restore their phone after updating on iTunes. 400 million if you consider that many people have updated more than once.
Have you restored it as directed? I gather from the fact that you posted that you tried and something went wrong. If you post what you did and what went wrong, including the error message and error number, we can probably help get your phone running again. -
I try to update IOS 6 to my ipad 2/ wf/3g and after about half of the procedure stopped ... then I try to reconnected to the itunes and say "iTunes has detected an iPad in recovery mode. Error message on ipad when we tried to download images to computer. 'Itunes has detected an ipad in recovery mode. You must restore your ipad before it can be used with iTunes. It downloaded some images prior to this message and we selected skip any files with errors.
Ipad now just showing apple image with power cord. Don't want to click restore and lose all data.Once the Device is asking to be Restored with iTunes... it is too late to save anything...
