Can't right-click on icons in the Finder...

...suddenly. When I right-click on a Word doc (or any file), instead of an option menu appearing, the Finder seems to reset itself and open up the main window of my harddrive. I can right-click in other applications - and I tested multiple mice to see if that was an issue (it wasn't). I deleted my finder plist file in Library, and all that - no success.
Please, please, PLEASE don't tell me I need to reinstall my entire system (again).
Help!

You need to re-install your ENTIRE SYSTEM!
(Just kidding
It could be an item in /library/contextual menu items. Drag the contents of that folder to the desktop and test again. If that sorts it put the items back one at a time to find the culprit..
If that's not it, navigate to ~(yourhome)/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/Finder.crash.log open it and paste the contents here for the latest Finder crash and maybe we can figure what's going on.

  • Can't right-click on certain images in finder

I've tried searching for this, but so far I've had no real luck. I have a folder of images (2033 images to be exact) from when I lived in Japan. The first 2/3 of them work fine, but the last roughly 1/3, when I right-click on them I get the same contextual menu as if I had right-clicked on the negative space (i.e. create new folder.) I can open them with a double left click (preview) and I can open them from within another program. Anyone have any ideas as to why this is happening with only some of the images in this folder? It doesn't happen with any other folder (that I know of.)

FYI: the equivalent of a right click is Control key and click. The Option click is a different deal, equally useful, but different. To see the difference, try a Control click on a running application in the Dock, carefully note the menu options you see. Now try Option click--see the differences? An option click on a file doesn't do anything at all.

  • Right Click Menu Keeps Popping Up (Finder)

Hello all, just wondering if anyone else is having this problem in the Finder. If I right-click on something in the Finder, then left-click on something else, the right-click menu keeps popping up even if I have only one finger on my trackpad.
I tried removing my entire hand from anywhere near the trackpad and carefully touching the button with my index finger with all the rest of my fingers curled away and it still pops up the right-click menu.
The only thing that seems to cure it is switching focus to Firefox or some other application, then going back to the Finder. Clicking on a non-icon in the finder seems to help too. However, after right-clicking something then switching to a different icon, the right-click menu pops up again. Very annoying.
Anyone know a quick fix for this? Thanks in advance.

That's right, burgback. I actually think I may have found the issue: I use a prefpan / application called FolderGlance that lets you customize folders that appear in the contextual (right-click) menu. It even lets you dive into subfolders from an expanding right-click menu. Think about it as "stacks on steroids" because it lets you continue to dive into subfolders (unlike stacks...grrr).
Anyway, disabling the prefpane and removing the plugin from the ~/Library/Contextual\Menu\Items/ directory seems to have fixed the problem for now. I'll update if it doesn't, but I've been operating for about 30 minutes now without issue. Formerly the problem would rear its head about every 10 seconds I was in the Finder.
The only unfortunate part is...I love FolderGlance way more than stacks and I'm sad to see it go.

  • I have a MBP 15" with iPhoto 9. When right clicking on icon in dock 3 iPhoto libraries come up; one empty, one with 35,000 photos and one with 30,000 photos.  How can I delete the empty one and merge the other two without getting duplicates?

You can delete the empty one by dragging it to the trash ( test everything before emptying the trash)
Merging libraries requires iPhoto Library Manager - http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/ -  it is the only current solution to merging libraries

  • I can't right-click the Outlook 2010 icon on Win7 desktop taskbar and make a new task, appt, contact, email, nothing...Help

I need help figuring out what happened to the Outlook 2010 icon on my Windows 7 desktop taskbar ribbon.
I keep it at the bottom of my desktop screen. I used to be able to right-click the Outlook icon and I could see options for: New Email Message; New Appointment; New Meeting; New Contact; New Task. I see the options, but it does not create a new anything
when I click on one of those options. It does nothing. I have even right-clicked on one of the options and there is a window that opens saying, "Open." I click it and still nothing.  Did I click or unclick an option somewhere under properties
that took that time-saving tool from my choices?

    Hi,
Please right click on the Outlook icon in the taskbar, click Unpin this program from taskbar.
Then go to Control Panel, repair Office in Programs and Features.
Start Outlook again, right click on the Outlook icon in the taskbar, choose
    Pin this program to taskbar.
If this issue persists, please try the same feature for other programs to determine if it's an Outlook specific issue or Windows Client issue.

  • Desktop - Icons Disappeared, Can't Right-Click

    Hello,
I installed Leopard about a week ago (installed right over; not fresh install) onto my MacBook Pro, and everything was working fine until yesterday: all the icons on my Desktop (Macintosh HD, various folders and documents) disappeared, and I can't right-click/control-click the Desktop. I can still access the Macintosh HD and other files and folders through Finder, I just can't seem to get them to show up on the Desktop anymore. I'm fairly new to Macs in general, so I don't know if this is a feature that I accidently turned on or is this a bug or..?
Any ideas? Has this happened to anyone else?
    Regards,
    Derek

I ran into the same thing, did an upgrade on my MBP, a week later my desktop icons disappeared. I ended up downloading the trial version of Cocktail (http://www.maintain.se/cocktail/index.php). Under Ineterface-->Finder-->"Hide the desktop" was checked. I must have accidentally done this but did not know how to undo it. Hope this helps.

Unfortunately not. Lion has made many adjustments to the previous system. Try opening your pdfs in keynote.

  • Can I right click on the iPad

Is there any way to simulate a right click in Safari on an iPad?

I'm in Safari and want to right click the page so I can View Source like on a PC. I tried holding down my finger and it    just highlights the first word on the page and allows you to copy or define the word. Similarly, if I see an image I want to download or copy I can't right click it.

  • Is it possible and if so how can I right click on the on screen touch keyboard

Is it possible and if so how can I right click on the on screen touch keyboard.

No it not design for that. I just tried it. Left click only. I recomend that you do not mess with setting with in the software it self you may end up causing the keyboard to malfunction and crashing your computer.I all so just double check our computers help and support On screen keyboard settings. There was no option given for switching the mouse clicker.  Just sticky keys and short cuts are listed. Sorry I hope this answered your question. I would all so not recomend trying to install other software you may find on switching key board setting unless it came from HP company design especially use on these types of computers. You may end up destroying your hard drive and computer all together.

  • Can't right click on my desktop. Files/Folders are also disappeared

The subject explains pretty much the situation.
The last days, I can't right click on my dekstop. Right click works on any other icon/app etc of course.  At the same time, files/folders that I have in desktop, and I can see them through finder, are not displayed. However, if I login with the guest account, the problem is not reproduced.
    Any ideas?
(I have a new macbook pro 13 retina display, running 10.9.1)

    Sorry for the inconvenience.
It seems that there was a problem/miss configuration with an external program I installed (path finder).

  • Can't right-click in eyeglass view with IE 7

When using the eyeglass icon to view topics in my project, I
used to right-click the mouse and select Back to navigate between
various links. Since IE 7 was installed on my computer, when I am
in that view and right-click the mouse, nothing happens. Any
    suggestions?

I couldn't say why RoboHelp is behaving this way for you, I
have IE 7 (using RH X5) and can still right-click and choose Back.
You should also be able to just hit the Backspace key to navigate
    backwards as well.
