Can't rotate a gradient when it's a live paint object?

Hello,
OK-so I have a bunch of paths currently activated as a Live Paint object.
I place linear gradients in them, and when I go the gradient panel and try to rotate them, it looks like it will let me, by changing the rotation amount in the panel, but nothing happens in the gradient.
Is it possible to rotate a single gradient within a single, path while its still a Live Paint object?

So sorry for the delay....My client came in and we just finished up, so I just got your responses!
I feel like an idiot!!! That was it Monika...I completely forgot about the paint paint selections tool!!!! As soon as I selected it with that tool and rotated the gradient in the gradient panel, it worked beautifully!!!

Haven't used live paint in awhile, and I completely forgot about the separate selection tool!!!

How do i apply one gradient across multiple live paint objects??

I need to apply a single gradient acros a number of live paint objects but am finding it annoyingly hard to find a way. I know that normally, to apply a gradient across multiple objects, you would need to make them all into one compound path but does this apply to live paint groups in any way?? Can what i need to achieve actually be done??

1. With the Live Paint selection tool, shift-select those shapes you want to unify with a gradient.
2. Fill this (multi-shape) selection with your gradient. Now each shape is filled separately.
3. With the gradient tool, drag across all of the selected shapes.
"Annoyingly hard." Is that different than "hard"?

Took my phone to the Apple store this week and they told me it was a hardware/screen malfunction. They replaced the screen for free since it was under warranty. Now it works fine again!

Live paint object gradients

I have a live paint object made up of many shapes and lines. I need to put different gradients into many of the live paint areas. However, when I try to adjust the way a gradient fills one section of the live paint object, using the gradient tool,all of the gradients change. Is there a way to change the direction and angle of one area of the live paint object without affecting all of the gradient filled areas in it?

Actually, now that I look again, you can manipulate the gradient with the Gradient Tool after selecting with the Live Paint Selection Tool.
I thought I had seen a discussion of getting around the horrible highlight, but I haven't found it yet.

MMake sure screen rotation lock isn't on by swiping up from the bottom to open control panel, then look on the top right, there is a lock with an arrow circling it, make sure it's not highlighted. If it isn't try turning your phone off then on again. If that doesnt work try a hated restart by holding done the home and power buttons at the same time until you see the apple on the screen. If that doesn't work you could try restoring your phone or make an appointment with an Apple genius at the Apple Store, your accelerometer may be broken. Hope this helps.

Bernd, great to hear the message again. But this is ab big issue to use Adobe Reader in professional environment with my tablet in a docing station conected to a 24" screen: "Just turn your tablet" does not work in this case. Is there a chance of an update soon or is it possible with Adobe Profesional?

How can I reduce the number of lines in live paint?

I'm trying to use adobe illustrator to color the background of a photograph green while keeping the person in the picture the same color.
I used live trace to get a vector image and then attemped to use live pain to finish the job, but I end up with thousands of blue lines and gaps that are too small to color in. Is there anyway i can reduce the number of gaps so that i can actually paint the background?
I've already tried the gap options and adjusting the settings to small medium or large did nothing.
If this isn't possible, is there any other feature in adobe illustrator that would allow me to achieve my goal?
I have a photograph with a person in the middle; i want the person to remain the same and the background to be changed to green.

Would be easiest to fix this when tracing.
You could try the magic wand tool to select them (but you'll have to expand the live paint object)

Why can't I use Live Paint?

Hi,
I'm fairly new to Illustrator, but for a project I'm working on I've drawn a dragon using the pen tool. Now I want to use the live paint tool, however, after I select my dragon it won't let me "make" the live paint. I also can't expand, not sure if that's related.
I tested another simple drawing and was able to both expand and use live paint, so it must be something weird that I've done to my dragon.
I have a trial version of CS6.

Stray points/ segments, self intersecting paths and all the ingredients that make for a "bad" vector artwork
certainly should be corrected, it shouldn't keep you from making a live paint object. So there must be something else in this drawing. Please show the complete layer panel (expand the layer so it's visible. And please don't scale down your screenshots.

That hardware button can actually be toggled to work either as a mute button, or a lock orientation button. This can be edited at the settings screen.

Try plugging it into a computer with iTunes opened. If you see anything that says restore, say no.
Sometimes these issues resolve themselves when you connect the device to iTunes.
What happens when you hold the home and sleep/wake button? I know it doesn't work, but does it shut off at all?

Just to recap, this is a collection of ports I have collected over time for people who needed this information when setting up the HP ePrint app so that they could view their email from within the app. I am certain other applications also need this information. Although lengthy, I could not find a more comprehensive place to retrieve this information. Trouble trying to rotate a gradient in Flash

I understand that making a rectangle in object drawing mode
and then filling that rectangle with a gradient fill that I can
then rotate that fill using the Gradient Transform Tool. The
problem is it is out of control when I select the corner rotate
handle: It does not constrain to 90 degrees when I hold the shift
key down and the indicators that show the rotate angle on the stage
disappear off the screen in a strange fashion.
Something is wrong but I've never used this feature before
and wondered if someone with experience using edits to gradient
fills in Flash could set me straight.

How can I get "distorted" gradient fills to copy & paste properly?

Here's the situation simplified: I create a document and draw a circle and fill it with a circular gradient fill. I then copy and paste that circle into a new document. It looks exactly the same, and importantly, the gradient fill is still editable, so I can change the colours making up the gradient, their positions on the gradient-slider, etc.
However, if I draw the circle in the first document, fill it with a circular gradient fill, and then I "distort" the gradient's shape to an oval shape, using the gradient tool — still keeping the circle itself as a circular shape (only the fill has changed shape) — and I then copy and paste this circle into a document, it does not get copied across properly as a "true" gradient fill.
At first glance, it looks the same. However, viewing the circle in Outline mode shows that the gradient fill has been expanded into 100s and 100s of flat solid coloured objects, each one laid on top of another, getting progressively smaller and smaller, and all masked in the original circle shape.
And of course, as the gradient fill has been expanded, it is no longer "live" and no longer editable, so I now can not edit its colours or positions on the gradient-slider, etc.
So, how can I make it so that Illustrator maintains and keeps the correct gradient fill when copying and pasting between documents? I've tried editing all the settings under Preferences > File Handling & Clipboard, but all without success.
At the moment, to overcome this "bug", I have to separate the two document windows by dragging its tab out of the main Illustrator window, so I now have two floating windows, rather than all windows tabbed in the one environment, and I then have to drag and drop the object from one window to the other. Slightly inconvenient, but it does get the job done.
Strangely enough, dragging and dropping DOES work, whereas copying and pasting does NOT. Weird.
However this slight inconvenience soon adds up when I have to do it many many many times over.
And it gets progressively worse, because dragging and dropping does not allow me to place the object in the position I want it, whereas with copying and pasting, I could ordinarily choose to "Paste In Front" to place my object exactly in the same position between the two documents.
In order to overcome this, I have to drag and drop to get the gradient fill across correctly, and then I have to copy and paste a non-filled duplicate version of the object to get it in precisely the same place, and then I have to use the alignment tools to get the two objects to line up. This = major inconvenience.
And all this becomes even worse when attempting to copy an Illustrator object into Photoshop as a Smart Object, because when I then double-click the Smart Object in Photoshop to edit it, the gradient fill has been expanded — because, obviously, the object had to have been copied and pasted to get it from Illustrator into Photoshop, and this is the problem that Illustrator seems to be having.

However, to go through what's been said since my last post...
I tried launching Illustrator in another user account on this machine, but it wouldn't even launch! I got some error number (which I don't recall offhand, but I can re-check it later).
To clarify, this is an official install of CS4 (so no pirating here!), and Illustrator was not running in my other main user account.
And the InDesign thing wouldn't apply to me, as I don't use that app at all. I do invariably have a couple of other CS4 apps running though, usually always Photoshop and Bridge.
I CAN understand how copying and pasting from Illustrator to InDesign would cause this though, because InDesign doesn't support live editable gradients to the same advanced degree that Illustrator does, so it has to expand it when doing so, thereby losing its editability.
Copying and pasting whilst staying completely within Illustrator though is a different story.
You know what — I just had a thought... What if this is nothing to do with Illustrator, but is instead something to do with my Mac OS's system-level clipboard?
I actually had a 3rd-party multiple-item clipboard item installed some time ago, but then never used it. Maybe there's still remnants of that floating around and that's interfering with it somehow?
I'll see if I can clear out all traces of it and see if it makes a difference... Fingers crossed!

How can I get a downloaded document to open so I can permanently rotate it?

I get the following message when attempting to open a document in Adobe XI, "There was an error opening this document, access denied". How can I open the selected document and permanently rotate it 180 degrees?

For the first problem (not opening) try this.
- Open Adobe Reader XI
- Go to Edit - Preferences - General section
- Uncheck the option called "Enable Protected Mode at Startup"
- Save the changes, close Adobe Reader and it should be fixed.
As far as rotating, you can only rotate the view for the current session with Reader. It will not be saved once the document is closed.
