Can't rotate CC Drizzle simulation in After Effects

Hi, I have this problem. I want to rotate a CC Drizzle simulation to be like if it was hitting the floor in my composition.
What I do:
1. Create an Adjustment Layer.
2. Apply Effecs > Simulation > CC Drizzle.
3. Once that the layer is in my composition, I clic in the 3D layer option.
3. I rotate it in X so that it can ressemble the floor.
4. (HERE'S THE PROBLEM) The white outline of the layer does rotate, but the drizzle effect still faces me in the front (the are where it appears shrinks too because of the rotation), while I wanted it to have some perspective.
Does somebody understand and can help me out?

No, you need the Drizzle filter to be in the precomp, not in the main comp. You probably don't need to use an Adjustment layer. If the Drizzle is being applied to just one layer/texture, apply the drizzle to the layer directly. If it's actually being applied to multiple layers, then all those layers will also have to be moved to the precomp with the adjustment layer. Make sure "Leave All Attributes" is unchecked when you precomp, as that will move the Drizzle effect into the precomp.

How can I make a countdown timer using After Effects

I'd like to make a video that has a timer that counts down one second at a time. I need one starting at 5:00 (five minutes). Is there a way to easily do this in After Effects without having to manually change the text every second?

Colin Braley provides a tutorial and example project on
his website that show how to use an expression on the Source Text property to animate text to overcome some of the limitations of the Numbers effect.

Can't see vray render elements in after effects.

Not too sure where to post this so i'm placing it in various forums, I'm working with 3Ds Max 2011, Vray 1.5 sp5 and After Effects CS4.
I want to save a render with various render elements such as zdepth, material and object ID etc all saved into a single .exr file so i can bring animations into After Effects and do DOF changes and colour changes quickly. The problem is that if i render the image and do a manual save as an exr it won't show any of the vray render elements when i bring it into AE.
If i set it to auto save as a Vray raw image but change the extension from vrimg to exr then it saves all the render elements but I lose the 'save as exr' dialogue box where i can chose bit depth and compression type.
If I render the image and save manually as an exr then i have all that but it won't save vray render elements, after using extractor the screen is just black.
In short i just want to be able to 'save as' an .exr and be able to see my render elements in the render, i've posted some screen caps below to show everything is as should be, any help is appreciated.

Extractor recognises the channels
But the screen is black afer using extractor, the layer is in there as can be seen when it's moved out of position

fnordware, thanks i've put the files on megaupload, the links are below. i tried doing an auto save as you suggested but to no avail, as i say it will work if i tell max to save as a vray raw image and just change the extension but not as a simple 'save as'.
I've simplified these files, they should only have an rgb, an alpha and a zdepth. Anything you can give me will be much appreciated.

By the way i don't have the proexr plugin if that makes any difference but i think that's just to be able to see and select the channels like photoshop layers.

Don't do that. The After Effects CC (12.0.1) patch was only a temporary solution before After Effects CC (12.1) was released:

That is telling you that whoever deployed your Adobe software as part of an enterprise software license agreement chose to disable updates. You'll need to talk with your IT people who set up and deployed your Adobe software to reverse this decision.

Can't import any .psd files into after effects.

Hello all.
I was using CS5 master collection without issue, for a year.
Decided to upgrade to the CS6 master collection and that’s when the problems began.
For example, I can’t import any .psd files into AE.
All files are saved in RGB mode.
The previous files were made on CS5.
I made a new .psd file in CS6 with just a couple of layers on it, couldn’t import that either.
I’ve tried Ctrl-alt-shift to delete preferences, that had limited success. I can import a file and do a little bit of work on it but as soon as I close the file down and opened it up again, it does not recognise the .psd file.
The errors I’m getting in AE are many
For example:
After Effects warning: Reading past end of file
After Effects error: Could not open intro.psd because it is not a valid Photoshop document
After Effects error: Crash in progress. Last logged message:<8104><dynamiclink><5>C:\ProgramFiles\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Pro CS6\Adobe Premiere Pro exe
After Effects error: Not enough memory to initialise PSL
I have un-installed and re-installed many times.
I’m using Windows 8, with 32ram. Hard drives C: 100mg, D: 2 Tb
I’ve tried installing on both drives, still the same thing happens.
Does anyone out there in Adobe Land have any ideas?

Thanks for your response.
It actually happens with every .psd file regardless of size or specs.
All the other programs in the CS6 master collection work fine, except for AE and PS.
I tried the small file. Created a small file, 100 px by 100px 72dpi, just with a gradient background. Same thing, not enough memory to initialise PSL.
I got the adobe cleaner, and re-installed on my system (again) .... same thing.
As long as I open AE with doing ctrl-alt-shift every single time or export layers from PS individually I seem to be OK.
The problem is far from solved, so I guess i just have to put up with workarounds.

Can't open Premiere project exported from After Effects

I was working on something in After Effects, basically just audio and video clips. Editting really. I decided one part would be faster in Premiere so I exported a Premiere project of it. When I try to load it in premiere I get an error "The project appears to be damaged, it can not be opened.". Does anyone know if there's a way to fix this?

It doesn't cause a problem for me, and we have not heard of this on the forum as far as I can remember.
Try creating a brand new comp in a brand new project. Add some video and audio. Does that export OK?
I don't mean to be rude, and in no way do I want to be insulting, but I would feel bad if I didn't ask and it turned out to be the problem....
Since that is the symptom if you try to open a Pr project created in Ae using Premiere Pro CS6 - please check that you are opening the correct Premiere Pro. I forget which icon is which now and then and open CC when I meant to open CS6, although I have never made the reverse error. Yet.

You can't use this version of application "After Effects"

I have the Adobe CS6 installed on my computer and they all worked fine with Snow leopard, but the moment I got Yosemite and tried to open After Effects I get this message:
"You can’t use this version of the application “Adobe After Effects CS6” with this version of OS X.
You have “Adobe After Effects CS6” 11.0."
Every other program I tried on Adobe CS6 works fine but After Effects will not open. I tried to uninstall and reinstall it but I get the same message.
After Effects is my second most used program on the Creative Suite, how do I fix it?

Pal to NTSC can I do it in Premiere or After Effects

I have been asked to create a video for a client which is to be shown in Denver USA. I am shooting on a Sony FZ1 and will be working in Pal widescreen. Can I export it as NTSC footage or is this a specialist area, is After Effects a better programe for doing this? Help I'm on a deadline

True, but there is the whole 50i -> 60i conversion that can get really messy.

No. It does just about the worst possible job imaginable. After Effects is only slightly better.
One of the "best" (easiest, highest quality) ways of converting PAL -> NTSC is to:
1.) Deinterlace the PAL source (50i -> 25p)
2.) Slow down the video by 4% (25p -> 24p)
3.) Encode as 24p "film" to DVD
There are many other ways to do the conversion (pulldown, blending, motion compensated framerate adjustment) but all methods are predicated on high-quality deinterlacing, which Adobe products simply do not have.

Although this workflow was originally developed to convert NTSC60i -> NTSC24p, it can also handle PAL sources. In addition, there is a function for "normal" 50i <-> 60i (PAL <-> NTSC) conversions.

Can I import Red Dragon footage into After Effects?

I keep getting the error that the format might be unsupported, but I thought that Dragon support was part of CC?

Where have you seen that for After Effects CC? I can't find any public mention of that, except in discussions of what's coming in a future version due out soon. Premiere Pro CC (7.1) added RED Dragon import, but camera formats very often start in Premiere Pro and then get integrated into After Effects next.

Can we live just we motion without after effects ( effects with particle)

I am trying to make a really simple effects with particles in motion, i watched ANDY KRAMER'S "tutorial " ENERGY" related after effects and trying to do same thing with apple motion, I am new in motion graphic and approched it studying motion with mark spencer book and experiencing as many things as possibile.
MY personal question is ( I know that many people has done same question) it really worth studiyng after effects? can we live just with motion? (as 3d app i am studiyng cinema 4d).
Anyway right now Iam a bit frustrated because a simple twirl effects with particles coming from boundaries to go toward center point seem to me impossible, iit was so easely in after effects.

Well if you haven't already realized it your never going to be completely happy with Motion. But I was never any happier with After Effects. Personally if you can get your hands on Cinema 4D DO. It's an awesome program. Combine that with Motion and you can do just about anything you want. Oh yea and I guess you've already noticed that when it comes to stability Motion is screwed. My dream is that someday (Like in the next release) They would combine C4D and Motion into almost 1 application. Kinda like FCP and Motion. You could do most of your modeling in C4D and then pull it into Motion to add all you video layers etc. But chances of that happening are pretty slim. But if the next release of FCS has as many updates as the last release it might be time to switch to Adobe lol

If an application is not listed it is normally because your machine does not meet the system requirements for that application. Check the AFter Effects requirements against your machine to see if there is a mismatch...

How can I block warning messages triggered by After Effects?

Hello, please tell me if it is possible to block the warning messages triggered by After Effects CS 5. I'm digesting .aep projects automatically, using scripts, and sometimes these projects have missing files. AE triggers warnings, causing the program to block until someone clicks "ok" on the alert message. The problem is that the process is intended to be automatic, withouth any human intervention. The only possible solution I see in this problem is to block all warning messages from AE, but I don't know how, so I ask you for help. Thank you!
