Can't "run" firefox upgrade; instead, only "save" appears. What's up?

want to download newer version of firefox (also Microsoft Security Essentials-having same problem), but the run (execute) command doesn't appear. Instead, "save" (file) appears. What's wrong? I can detect no yellow information bar.

Firefox does not allow executable files to be run, they can only be saved. This is a security feature to prevent the spread of viruses. You can bypass this feature and have the option to run files by using the OpenDownload² extension - https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/opendownload-10902/

How can I prevent firefox to Offer to save passwords and how to remove the tick checked when I log in to gmail?

While using firefox I am using, private browsing and not remembering any passwords.
When I login to Gmail, the login page shows option to type in my gmail id and then password, and at the bottom, it gives the option of checkbox to remember the password next time. NOW, the problem is that, THIS CHECK box is always TICKED (Checked). I don't want it to be checked at all.
So How can I prevent firefox to Offer to save passwords and how to remove the tick checked when I log in to gmail?

Hi Imran_Afzal, if you know that setting the cookie has no effect after you close your private browsing session, is it really worth finding a hack to clear the checkbox?
I believe in order to do that you would need to use an extension or userscript. However, I haven't searched for one.

Why do some computers running Firefox 6.02 only display 5 or 6 applications in the "applications" tab under "options" and others show about 25?

I am running Firefox 6.0.2 on several computers and on several of them the applications tab under "options" only shows 5 or 6 applications while another shows 20-25 applications including PDF which is what I am interested in. How can I get applications to appear on this menu?
All of the computers in questions are running Windows XP Pro. On the computer with the limited menu if I attempt to download a PDF copy of my bank statement Mozilla opens the PDF rather than opening it with my PDF program. If I attempt to save the file or print it, Mozilla crashes. On the computer which lists all of the apps on the application tab the PDF opens normally using the program which I have selected for opening that file type.

You can try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox.

All the lettlers on my desktop and in the address bar appear as symbols. Also, I can't run firefox because it keeps giving me a crash report. I'm running Vista, if that helps.

This is my parent's computer. Here are the facts: After using facebook the previous evening, the next time the computer was used all of the desktop displayed symbols instead of letters/words. Upon trying to open Firefox a window labeled Firefox crash report opened. No matter what options you choose (send report, don't send, etc) when you click on an option, another Firefox crash report window opens. So I can't open Firefox. Simple solution would be to uninstall Firefox and reinstall it; however, it is very hard to navigate the computer with no words and all symbols. I am able to open up Internet Explorer, but anything in the address bar or search bar also appears as symbols. If I were to type in a specific site in the address bar, the site will load properly in words but the address bar still shows symbols. After much playing around, I was able to update Avast antivirus and run a full scan and nothing was found. I updated Malware Bytes and ran in for an hour but it never fully finished running before I had to leave. Please help.

Try to disable hardware acceleration.
*Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"
If disabling hardware acceleration works then check if there is an update available for your graphics display driver.
Try to toggle some Boolean gfx.font_rendering prefs on the about:config page to disable some features.
Filter: gfx
Some to try:
* set gfx.direct2d.disabled to true to disable Direct2D
* set gfx.font_rendering.directwrite.use_gdi_table_loading to false.
To open the about:config page, type about:config in the location (address) bar and press the "Enter" key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website. 
If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page. 
*Use the Filter bar at to top of the about:config page to locate a preference more easily.
*Preferences that have been modified show as bold (user set).
*Preferences can be reset to the default or changed via the right-click context menu.

Can I run a 2.4GHz only base off of my AirPort Express base?

I am trying to run a Grace Encore Internet radio. Their support tells me that it only runs at 2.4, and I can't limit the AirPort to that. My iMac runs just fine through it.
When I try to run the radio, connection to my network seems to occur: the Wi-Fi symbol appears on its screen, no error messages showing, and the Apple AirPort Utility program adds a wireless client to its list when the radio starts up. A few seconds later, a message appears stating that there is no Internet connection even though Wi-Fi Strength shows 100% on the radio. Any attempt to access the Internet - to Register it or Upgrade Firmware for example - says there is no Internet connection. DHCP mode is on.
I am thinking the easiest solution could be to buy a 2.4 only base if I can 'slave' it to the AirPort. Then I would run the radio off of a new network on that base. Could that be done?

You cannot run 2.4 GHz only if you have a dual band AirPort Express that runs 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz simultaneously. Both bands are always on.
But, you can assign a different name to the 5 GHz signal, which in effect will separate the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands into separate networks. Might be worth a try if you have not already done that.
You don't mention what type of wireless security setting that the Internet radio requires, but that is another area that needs to be checked. Some testing.....like turning off the wireless security on the AirPort Express temporarily might be required.
Obviously, if the Internet Radio cannot connect as a test to a network with no security, it will never connect to a network with security enabled.

It can be done, but if the 2.4 GHz only network on the AirPort Express won't allow the radio to connect, then I doubt that another router would either.

Conky can't run since upgrade to Plasma 5

I just upgraded to KDE Plasma 5. For some reason I can't seem to run conky anymore and I'm not sure why.

Back in KDE4 I'm pretty sure I still used the KDE desktop manager, but I had to use feh to put the same wallpaper on the root background so that conky wouldn't be black.
If this is a problem with Plasma 5's desktop manager, I honestly don't mind just stopping using it and just using a root background. I'm having trouble figuring out how to do this as Plasma 5 is still pretty new and there isn't much information on it. Of course if it's possible I'd like conky working with Plasma 5's desktop manager.

Yep, I have the same issues, though I have a workaround for my conky, but I lose some functionality like stickiness (override) and I can drag it around the desktop. Here's what I use today:

I think chromeless mode is the correct term to use. Basically I want to run Firefox 8 without the usual Windows borders. For example to run it un-maximised but looking just as it does when maximised.

Try to set the gfx.content.azure.enabled pref to false or if this didn't help disable Direct2D by setting the gfx.direct2d.disabled pref to true on the about:config page and leave hardware acceleration otherwise enabled.
That way you still have the benefit from hardware acceleration, but may not suffer from rendering issues.
You can also try to uninstall Windows update KB2670838 if you have this update.
