Can't run ghost boot disk

Hi i just top up some cash and trade in my 661FM2-LSR for this 865PE Neo2-PLS board yesterday. Everything went well installing the winxp and drivers. But I can't run ghost bootdisk 2003 sucessfully. It will hang there when it switched to ghost startup screen. I tired at least 5 times but no luck.
The floppy disk is working as when I tried on my bro's pc, it can load into ghost screen and allowed me to select those options. Can't be my floppy drive faulty as I just run ghost last month when having the 661FM2. I did try to boot using win98 and it works well. I can go into fdisk and etc...
Anyone got any idea why? Thanks

I will try to run liveupdate and create a new norton ghost bootdisk later and let you guys know if it works and thanks to everyone that post
Now my board can run dual channel and I'm thinking to get another Kingston KVR400X64C25/512. The m chip is PSC A2S56D30BTP-5. If I got another stick but let's say it's winbond BH-5 or CH-5 and will my system able to detect as dual channel? Thanks again

    Hi all,
Need to ghost several sat pro a200 machines using a network ghost boot disk. when i use the ghost disk provided by ghost boot wizard and booting into PC dos i get the message "No Fast Ethernet PCI Adapter Found!" Serious Internal Error! (hardware works OK in XP/Vista)
i have tried booting from CD, Mem Stick and USB floppy with drivers from toshiba and realtek without any success, searches on google seem to point toward there needing to be a driver to interface with the cardbus / PCMCIA adapter - if this IS the case can anyone shed any light on the whereabouts of such a driver and how i could go about doing this?
    Many thanks,

Sorry folks answered my own question - the network card is reported as being an RTL8134 in windows XP but is in fact an RTL8100E/RTL8101E so i was using the wrong NDIS2 Driver!. doh!

  • How can I get a boot-disk for a Compaq P2500 laptop Windows XP Home Edition?

I'm already in another forum with a eerily similar question, but that's for the HP Media Center Pavilion m8000e desktop system (Windows Vista Home Premium) I was just given; I've ordered a new hard drive for that. I assume the directions to create a boot disk with the *.iso file (using Imgburn) is going to work; I have the 25-digit code for that.
This question here now is for my wife's older Compaq P2500 2596US laptop running Windows XP Home Edition. This too needs a new hard drive, but I also am missing the boot disc for this; I do have the 25-digit product code.
How can I get a boot disk for this laptop? I tried the Ubuntu method outlined in a few posts; geez, what a headache ... never could get it managed. Does HP not make any boot disks available? Microsoft told me to check with HP.
I can furnish the product code; model #; serial# ... gee, maybe the oroginal receipt is even laying around somewhere ...
I need a boot disk to get the new hard drive up on board (if I end up ordering that).
    Thanks for any help!

at least that the operator has confirmed to me that he called me. I also have problems with either the start of the mac with the power off. I can not understand if it crashes or is just very very slow.
Finally, I have a problem with the external hard disck. I often said to have been ejected incorrectly (not true) and I start to restore the startup recovery disk because disk utility is ineffective from the normal operating system .. is a shocking thing, but how you reduced. in four years it had never happened. seem to have windows or worse. Wake up.

You are on Windows 2000, you do not have a "Firefox" button, and should consider yourself to be fortunate in that you still have menus and don't have to do anything to get the menus back instead of the "Firefox" button. (The same applies to Windows XP users).
Use the "File" menu to get to Import. You are not on Windows 7 or Vista, and don't have to put up with the nonsense added for Aero.
If you want the "Firefox" button you can get it with View -> toolbars -> (uncheck) Menu Bar. The menu bar and the "Firefox" button were supposed to be mutually exclusive (which is impossible in some cases without being incompatible).
Once you are using the "Firefox" button ...
Use the "Alt" key to view the menu bar (temporarily) containing File, Edit, View, History, Bookmarks, Tools, and Help. On Windows 7 and Vista, the menu bar was hidden by default in Firefox 4 and above. These menu items are more or less available under the "Firefox" button which has the most used of the built-in Firefox menu items available in a different format.
To get back to having menus again. "Firefox" button -> Options (second column) -> (check) Menu Bar

  • Where can I get the Boot Disk for my macbook pro? Downloading OSX Lion is taking too long

I got a macbook pro that was owned by someone for a few days before. I tried to restore to factory setting but now downloading OSX Lion is taking forever with my internet connection. Can anyone help me find a boot Disk to speed up the process?

Apple no longer sells a Lion installation USB flash drive (they did at one time). SO you'll just have to wait for the download to complete. It's best to 'hard-wire' the download - not over wifi but with an Ethernet cable connected directly to your router. That will gain you some speed.
You could also try taking your MBP to a friend's home where they may have a faster Internet service. My download speed is 22+Mbps with my cable company - you may have a friend or neighbor who has something similar? Of course, you are always at the mercy of Apple's servers - sometimes they're just overloaded and a download that should take 20 minutes can take up to an hour and one-half.
    Good luck,
    Clinton

  • How to run a boot disk or flash card

как запустить загрузочный диск или флэш-карту, положить в первую очередь, но все же начинает с жесткого диска

Just insert your installer DVD (the one that came with your computer) and run Disk Utility from that to repair your drive.
The reason you could only verify and not repair when running DU from your boot drive is you cannot repair the boot drive while booted from it.  Hence the requirement of booting from a different disk .  A DVD is a disk, and the installer DVD is already a bootable disk.  So no need to create one of your own (other than cloning the DVD as a backup of course).
And as steve359 says, yes, you should have backups.  Using popular backup utilities like Carbon Copy Cloner and Super Duper to make bootable backups is convenient and of course you then have backups of your main drive in case it catastrophically fails.
Oh, and to answer the specific exact question of the title of this thread ("Re: How To Create A Boot Disk"), sort of tangential to the problem at hand, get yourself a small disk (even, say about 16GB to 32GB usb flash drive will do) and install the system on it (probably custom install to avoid needless crap).  In the case of a usb flash drive, it won't be any speed daemon, but if that's all you got in some emergency, who cares?

  • Can I run apple hardware disk from a clone of the Install disk 2 on an external hard drive?

I have just installed a new SATA cable and HDD and want to check everything is in order.  I don't have my original disks with me, but I do have copies of both disks on an external hard drive.  Can I use that to run Apple Hardware Test on my machine?

If nothing else works, give this a try:
    1. Right click on iPhoto
    2. Click on Package contents
    3. Look for file name "Master"
    4. Right click on it and click copy
    5. On your desktop right click and paste.
The "Master" file has all the orginal pictures and movies. You can then burn them with toast! Good luck!

  • Can vmware run on Boot Camp? Please Help as soon as possible

I recently installed vista ultimate through vmware, but is it possible in any way to boot this vista OS I installed through vmware fusion through boot camp?
Please help as soon as someone finds a certain answer.
    Thanks

Running Windows (Vista or XP) is somewhat slower in virtualization than in BootCamp. If this is an important issue for you - and particularly if you are going to be running programs that benefit from fast screen updates - then you want BootCamp. If you need BootCamp then install it and afterwards install VMWare Fusion and use the BootCamp installation rather than a virtualized disk.
If you are satisfied with the performance of virtualization there is no benefit from having BootCamp installed in terms of running VMWare. This is a disadvantage though - you have to shut down, you cannot save an instance, at least with version 1. I haven't downloaded version 2 to see if this has changed. It is much faster to resume an instance than to restart Windows and then your applications.

  • P43 Neo-F How can I choose another boot disk while in S4 sleep?

    Hi,
I want to create a Dual-boot with two OS'es on different Disks, the first one is a very tiny game OS and the other is the one I'm going to work on.
I really want the possibility to use Suspend To Disk to write the active OS onto the disk and start the game OS for a few hours and then restart and continue working on the previous OS.
Is this possible with my motherboard? Until now I experienced that when putting one OS to sleep (S4/STD) it's impossible to change the boot device, or to enter the boot/setup menu of my bios.
I hope you guys can help me!

    Quote
Until now I experienced that when putting one OS to sleep (S4/STD) it's impossible to change the boot device, or to enter the boot/setup menu of my bios.
Yeah, I just tested around with this on my P45 Platinum.  When the system into the S4 State, some sort of CMOS flag seems to be set that tells the BIOS to skip the DEL/F11 prompt and automatically gives back control to the last active hard drive to resume from Hibernation.  The message to hit DEL to enter BIOS setup or F11 to access the Boot Menu does not even appear.
However, if you put the system into the S4-State, turn off/unplug your PSU and Clear CMOS, you can enter BIOS again to load Default values and/or to load your custom settings.  When you hit F10 to save & exit and the system restarts, the DEL/F11 prompt is there again.  It is then possible to access the drives via the BIOS Boot Menu (F11) and if the drive that holds the memory image is selected, the system properly resumes from the S4-state.
Of course, I am not trying to tell you to clear CMOS whenever you want to do what you want to do, but at least this is a workaround and it shows that this is a BIOS/CMOS matter.  In my experience, the CMOS Flag (or whatever you want to call it) is a common procedure on many boards to make resuming from the S4 state a matter that functions analogous to the S1/S3 resuming procedure (even though this is not entirely necessary).
If the manual S4-Resuming thing is really that important to you, my suggestion would be to contact MSI Technical Support and request a Costum BIOS Release that skips the CMOS Flag (or whatever that should be called) that shuts off the DEL/F11 prompt when the system is restarted from S4.  However, I cannot promise you that they will provide you with such a Custom BIOS as this kind of S4 handling is very special and I doubt that there are very many other users/customers out there that really need the system to behave that way.  In any case, you can try at least and see what they say.

  • Parallels can now run your boot camp partition!

Having seen this question many times in this forum, I thought I'd let people know that the new beta of parallels can boot from your existing boot camp partition. It also has a few other features with some major cool factor. Check it out here.

unforunately it won't work if your bootcamp partition is fat32, however they said it will be fixed in the next release!

  • I've downloaded Lion. I have a boot disk. Can I use it to install on another machine?

I downloaded Lion from the Mac App store and it's working 100%. Love it.
After downloading and before installing, I copied the installESD.dmg (I think that's the correct filename) to a DVD (as per all the instructions out there to create a boot disc). I did NOT copy the entire "Install Lion App" to the DVD.
My question is: if a friend buys lion from the app and then cancels the download, can he use my boot disk to install lion as an upgrade? The reason I'm asking is that his Internet connection is rubbish and he can't download it. Presumably if I copy the dmg file to his hard disk I can run it that way?

Actually, you can burn a DVD or USB (8GB) thumb drive and let him boot and install from it. Or, you can actually run the InstallESD.dmg file from his machine. I've done both and Lion installs.
Personally, I would burn a DVD or thumb drive so you always have it.
Burn the InstallESD.dmg to a bootable DVD.
Launch Disk Utility and click the Burn button
Select the InstallESD.dmg file from your desktop as the image to burn. Insert a blank DVD and wait for the the image to be burned.
Burn the InstallESD.dmg to a bootable USB thumb drive.
Open Disk Utility and drag the InstallESD.dmg file to the left side pane. Go to the Partition tab ad select 1 Partition from the drop down menu. Choose Mac OS Extended (Journaled) on the left. Click the Options button under the partition table and choose GUID Partition Table. You will need this to make the drive bootable on a Mac. Hit the Apply button when ready to format the drive (it will erase everything on the drive).
Click on the Restore tab and drag the InstallESD.dmg file to the Source. Drag the USB partition to the Destination. Hit the Restore button and it will create the bootable USB drive with the OS X Lion installer

  • Can you run Boot Camp and Fusion at the same time?

    Hi,
I had boot camp installed on my mac pro and loved it. I decided to get greedy and install Fusion using the boot camp partition. The Fusion install went ok but then Microsoft started to get fussy. Every time I would do something on Fusion it would ask me to "Re-activate Windows" when I logged into boot camp. Maybe if I saw Fusion fully working I wouldn't want to run boot camp any more but I think I want to have the option to run either. Right now I only have 1 gig real memory on my mac pro and Fusion seems a little slow compared to native boot camp. Can I run both boot camp and fusion without having to buy two native copies of Windows XP pro? I don't want a "sensible" answer, I want an answer that takes into account how Microsoft treats this re-activation situation.
I guess Leopard might make this all obsolete, but until then .....
    ... Flash Gordon

You need to make sure to install VMware Tools into your virtual machine (while booted into Windows via Fusion). Once you do this you shouldn't have to continually activate Windows when going back and forth from Boot Camp to Fusion. I've seen this discussed over on the VMware Fusion discussion boards, so you may want to look there for more details.
Also, if Windows starts telling you it's been activated too many times, you can call Microsoft and they'll give you an alternate activation key. The phone number is listed on the Windows error screen. I had to do it and they were very accommodating. I just told them I was running Windows in a virtual machine, and there were almost no questions asked.
You don't need to buy 2 copies of Windows to run both Boot Camp and VMFusion.

  • OS 10.5 Family Pack Retail Questions: PowerPC Install; Used as Boot Disk?

I have a MacBook Pro (which I've not unsealed yet) that was sold with 10.5:
    (http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/macbook_pro/stats/macbook-pro-core-2-duo-2 .53-aluminum-15-late-2008-unibody-specs.html)
and I have a Mac G4 Dual 867 powerPC, which will continue to run 10.4.11.
I also have a piece of database software that requires 10.5 so I am thinking of installing 10.5 on a separate hard drive in the G4 so I can run that software on the G4 if needed.
I believe I also recall reading that the install disks sold with the MacBook Pro can't be booted from (you need the retail).
    So my questions are:
    1. Does the retail version (family pack) include installers for both PowerPC and Intel Macs (i.e., I am free to install on any Mac which meets the minimum requirements)?
    2. The retail pack can be used as boot disk for the MacBook Pro in case of an emergency?
So far, from the research I've done I would say yes, but wanted to check.

Does the retail version (family pack) include installers for both PowerPC and Intel Macs (i.e., I am free to install on any Mac which meets the minimum requirements)?
Yes, as long as the Mac isn't newer than the disk.
The retail pack can be used as boot disk for the MacBook Pro in case of an emergency?

  • DOS IP-ONLY VLM boot disk

I have removed IPX from my network and for purposes of ghosting
workstations, I still have to use dos boot disks.
I have made a custom DOS client32 disk based off the 2.7x dos client32 (NLM
disk) which works fine for most PC's, but there are some instances where I
have to use a VLM based bootdisk. I have made a vlm disk and it gets on the
network just fine, I can ping my servers by name, but I am unable to attach
to them. In the NLM disk, there is SERVLOC which I assume helps this
process, but is there a VLM component that will do the same feature, or do
I need something specific in there so it will find the server via SLP??
I know this is ancient stuff and technically unsupported, but I am looking
    for some guidance.

The VLM client never knew how to make NCP connections over IP. There
is an IP stack that is compatible with the VLM client, to be sure, but
that's purely as a transport protocol and not that the VLM NCP client
knew how to use it for NCP connections.
To make an IP connection you'll have to use CLIENT32.NLM & TCPIP.NLM
(the DOS/Win 2.71 client). More specifically, use the IP Server
    Connection files available from support.novell.com
    (http://support.novell.com/cgi-bin/se...i?/2963117.htm),
or one of the many CLIENT32.NLM-based boot disks available on
CoolSolutions and elsewhere. (Using the literal DOS/Win 2.71 files is
    somewhat out of date.)
Just a personal plug, I find the TCPIP NCP connection from a
CLIENT32.NLM boot disk too unreliable for Ghost, specifically in the
"push" (image creation) direction. The TCPIP.NLM stack seems to have
bugs in that direction that get exposed by pushing a large amount of
data up to the server, as opposed to downloading. I leave IPX enabled
for my Ghost boot disks for that reason alone, even though none of my
workstations actually have or use IPX. Your mileage may vary.
