Can't run in 10.7 Lion

Hi all,
I've just installed Lion (on an external drive, in order that I can test drive it and switch back to Snow Leopard if necessary), and I'm having trouble running FCP. Can anyone suggest a way to get it working? Sounds like it's OK for some, but not others...
I believe I have the latest version of FCP 7. Other relevant info: 2.8GHz intel core i7 iMac, 12GB RAM.
The error message is:
Final Cut Pro cannot be opened because of a problem.
Process:         Final Cut Pro [1803]
Path:            /Volumes/VOLUME/Applications/Final Cut Pro.app/Contents/MacOS/Final Cut Pro
Identifier:      com.apple.FinalCutPro
Version:         7.0.3 (7.0.3)
Build Info:      FCPApp-1008261348~8
Code Type:       X86 (Native)
Parent Process:  launchd [1297]
Date/Time:       2011-09-03 22:24:51.690 +0100
OS Version:      Mac OS X 10.7.1 (11B26)
Dyld Error Message:
  Library not loaded: /Library/Application Support/ProApps/*/ProFX.framework/Versions/A/ProFX
Referenced from: /Volumes/VOLUME/Applications/Final Cut Pro.app/Contents/MacOS/Final Cut Pro

Ah! I really should have thought of that... no I hadn't installed on the external drive. I thought I'd save space by keeping applications on my internal drive.
And that turned out to be the fix - migrated applications to the new drive also, and FCP booted fine. Thanks David!

  • How can i run windows on osx lion

Hi, some programs don't run anymore on osx lion. So I would like to install windows. How do I need to proceed?
    Thanks, Franklin

    ... don't run anymore
    Upgrade when possible.
    Downgrade back.
Dual boot 10.6 or even 10.5 (as old as your Mac came with) and Lion -
You can even have a Mac HFS data partition.
    Instead of dual booting Windows.
Depends on what. You didn't mention. Or whether they are Windows alternatives that have to run natively. Or could be run in a VM guest OS - but have to share RAM and processor resource, which may not be feasible or run well enough.
Apps incompatible with OS X Lion
keep Snow Leopard when upgrading to Lion

  • Can I run windows vista under lion boot camp?

I have an older install disk for windows vista that I need to install on my mac mini running lion.  I tried to do it under the bootcamp install but it froze most of the way through it.  Will this work? or does it have to be W7 only?  Lastly, is there a work around without spending money?

  • Help i can't run reason 5 on lion!

I just got a new mac book pro with lion and I went to install propellorhead's reason 5.0 and it installed fine....howevery,  every time i try to open it i get a "failed to open midi support library" message. This is extremely frustrating and I can't even look at the midi window in the audio midi setup. is anyone else experiancing a similar problem or know how to restore the audio midi drivers? I've already tried reinstalling reason about 5 times now...and i'm trying to avoid having to reinstall the entire OS X.....

Although I don't use Reason, Propellerhead's website says that the current version of Reason is Lion compatible.  The current version is 6.  So maybe you have to upgrade your version of Reason?

  • Can't Run SPSS with Mountain Lion

I recently upgraded to Mountain Lion and then installed SPSS 21. I am unable to get SPSS to work and I receive the following error message when I start the program: Serialization scheme was not recognized inet:Local Computer:0.
I then get presented with a popup window asking me to specify my server login: local computer.
Might anyone have any suggestions to fix this problem. I have been unsuccessful checking the SPSS support documents and just looking around the web, and my campus IT support hasn't had anything to offer.
    Some further notes:
SPSS 20 did not work after I upgraded to Mountain Lion, but SPSS states that version 20 is not fully compatible with Mountain Lion and users should upgrade to version 21.
Another discussion thread regarding difficulties with starting SPSS suggested creating a new user with Administrator priviliges and running SPSS under that user. This solution has not worked for me. Likewise, another suggestion of starting SPSS from terminal mode has not solved my difficulties.

Unable to open SPSS in MAC due to error Serialization Scheme was not recognized

  • How can I run carbon apps on Lion?

I've just installed Lion on my MacBook Pro, and found out that Power PC apps are not supported now=( is there a way to run a carbon app on lion?

Rosetta is now gone from Lion so any apps that have not been moved over to Intel won't work. So far there doesn't appear to be any way to get Rosetta back.

  • Cannot run CD-ROM on LION.

I had a TOEFL CD-ROM, which I use to run in Snow Leopard by doing an 'Auto Run'. But the 'Auto-Run' is now disabled in LION. Is there any way I can still run the disc in LION?

Can you see that "autorun" file?  If so, select it and do a Finder File > Get Info.  If the "Kind" in the resulting window is "PowerPC", then it won't run under Lion.

As far as licensing goes, it seems that as long as all the Macs are being used in your household, there's no limit.
    From the Lion license file:
"If you obtained a license for the Apple Software from the Mac App Store, then subject to the terms and conditions of this License and as permitted by the Mac App Store Usage Rules set forth in the App Store Terms and Conditions (http://www.apple.com/legal/itunes/ww/) (“Usage Rules”), you are granted a limited, non-transferable, non-exclusive license:
    i) to download, install, use and run for personal, non-commercial use, one (1) copy of the Apple Software directly on each Apple-branded computer running Mac OS X Snow Leopard or Mac OS X Snow Leopard Server (“Mac Computer”) that you own or control."

  • My MacBook Pro is running very hot after lion install.  Are there any hardware changes that will help? What can I do to get it back to normal?

My MacBook Pro is running very hot after lion install.  Are there any hardware changes that will help? What can I do to get it back to normal?

I get the impression that most of the users on older hardware experiences similar temperature issues on Lion for a long time now. Awaiting for confirmation from the original poster.
In the meantime I'm just cautious with regards to pushing the machine to such extreme temps, since something tells me such behaviour which includes monitor flickering and the likes is nothing but abnormal for any type of use...
Any clues if 10.7.5 does anything on this? If not I'm afraid i see myself going back to SL for good...

Alternatively, partition your internal HD and dual-boot it. Do note that you have to reboot to switch back and forth. You can't do it by logging out and back in.

Also, I am trying to connect my Mini from the mini-Displayport to the Displayport of my Dell U2410 monitor.  The image is very grainy, even though it is set to the correct resolution: 1920 X 1200 at 60Hz.  If I use HDMI to VGA input, the image is much clearer.  Is there a way to get the Displayport to work?

I'm having exactly the same keyboard issue.  Certainly nothing has ever enhanced my concentration while coding like suddenly becoming unable to type.
I'm seeing a great many devicemgr and rake errors in my system log.  I don't know if they're related.  How 'bout you?
If you're unfamiliar with the system log…
    Open /Applications/Utilities/Console.
If necessary, choose View > Show Log List.
system.log is at the top of the FILES section.
Try searching it for hot words like DEBUG, FATAL, and aborted.
I've found some discussions that would tend to indicate my errors are postGres related – I'm running OS X server.

  • Mountain Lion broke vectordesigner 1.7.0. Can I run it in compatibility mode to Lion?

    Hi,
if anyone could help? Mountain Lion broke vectordesigner 1.7.0. Can I run it in compatibility mode to Lion?
I can not update to version 1.7.3 because it has been removed from the app store.
    Regards
    Steffan

    There isn't a "compatibility" mode.
According to Roaring Apps compatibility table, neither version works with Mountaion Lion.

  • Can I run XP in Lion?

I must run XP. Have no issues using old bootcamp. How do I retain this functionality in Lion?

Boot Camp: Some computers require Microsoft Windows 7
    Windows on Intel Macs
There are presently several alternatives for running Windows on Intel Macs.
    1. Install the Apple Boot Camp software.  Purchase Windows XP w/Service Pak2, Vista, or Windows 7.  Follow instructions in the Boot Camp documentation on installation of Boot Camp, creating Driver CD, and installing Windows.  Boot Camp enables you to boot the computer into OS X or Windows.
    2. Parallels Desktop for Mac and Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7.  Parallels is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
    3. VM Fusionand Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7.  VM Fusion is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
    4. CrossOver which enables running many Windows applications without having to install Windows.  The Windows applications can run concurrently with OS X.
    5. VirtualBox is a new Open Source freeware virtual machine such as VM Fusion and Parallels that was developed by Solaris.  It is not as fully developed for the Mac as Parallels and VM Fusion.
    6. Last is Q.  Q is a freeware emulator that is compatible with Intel Macs.  It is much slower than the virtualization software, Parallels and VM Fusion.
Note that Parallels and VM Fusion can also run other operating systems such as Linux, Unix, OS/2, Solaris, etc.  There are performance differences between dual-boot systems and virtualization.  The latter tend to be a little slower (not much) and do not provide the video performance of the dual-boot system. See MacTech.com's Virtualization Benchmarking for comparisons of Boot Camp, Parallels, and VM Fusion. Boot Camp is only available with Leopard or Snow Leopard. Except for Crossover and a couple of similar alternatives like DarWine you must have a valid installer disc for Windows.
You must also have an internal optical drive for installing Windows. Windows cannot be installed from an external optical drive.

  • I have a iMac with 3Gb of memory can I run Lion

Can I run lion or will it take up all the memory I use lightroom and photoshop CS4

To see what processor you have, do "About this Mac" from your Apple menu and see what the processor like says. Looks like this on a PowerPC Mac:
If it says "PowerPC" as in the image, and your processor's speed is shown as 867mHz or greater, the highest Mac OS you can run is 10.5.8 Leopard.

Hi, I'm running Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5 (11G63) on mac pro. can i update to Os X Mavericks? thanks

We don't know a thing about your hardware, so we really cannot answer. See below.
    Upgrading to Mavericks
You can upgrade to Mavericks from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mavericks can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for FREE.
    Upgrading to Mavericks
To upgrade to Mavericks you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Download Mavericks from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mavericks is free. The file is quite large, over 5 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mavericks
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.
         Are my applications compatible?
