Can't run in a virtual environment on my sony vaio which is a quad core i3

I would like to run the preview but only have my primary notebook. I need to know if the preview is stable. I wanted to run in a virual machine but it keeps getting errors. If I run the ISO from my DVD-RW the setup starts fine but
I dont want to wipe out windows 7 and I dont have install CD's.
PLEASE ADVISE

It is complaining about a BIOS feature not enable in the VMware player. If I run from the DVD-R I burned it is fine.

I fixed it on my own. Had to go into BIOS and enable VMM. I also installed VMware and this tool worked on my VAIO.

Can I partition a soon to be received iMac 27" 3.4 Ghz i7 Quad core running Lion and install Snow Leopard to run old applications

I am about to get a 27" iMac 3.4 Ghz i7 Quad Core with Lion installed.
I want to run one or two old applications that will not run under Lion.
Is it possible to partition the iMac to run Snow Lepoard from there when I need it ?

I have tried to partition my Macbook Air (running Lion) using Bootcamp but all it will let me do is install Windows (which I do nor want to do.) Otherwise it will not partition the HD.
It gives three options. 1. Create a Windows 7 install disc. 2. Download the Windows support software. 3. Install Windows 7.
For interest I ran Bootcamp on my iMac (running Snow Leopard) and that would allow me just to partition the drive
(with no need to install Windows) by checking "I have the Mac OS X installation diec... or I have the support software.." (which I don't) and then goes to the partitioning page.
If you can put me wise I wouldbe grateful.

Third party hosting in virtual environment

Hi
We have just won our first web tools implementation.
The customer is considering using third party hosting. The third party company has asked if web tools can be hosted in a virtual environment e.g. Microsoft Virtual Server.
Is it okay to use a virtual environment and if so are there any issues/concerns etc. with doing this?
Any feedback greatly appreciated particularly if someone has already done this.

Hi Lynne,
We typically recommend using virtual machines only for test environments.
We have seen some issues that appear to be related to running Webtools from a virtual machine. Specifically, the session cache appears to be recycled very frequently and is sometimes "lost", resulting in a number of errors to the enduser.
This may be an issue that can be addressed by throwing hardware at the problem, but, since SAP does not run QA in virtual machines, this is nothing I could vouch for.

As per the Cisco TAC case Update :
For 3415 there are two options:
1. ISO can be converted into a bootable USB drive.
2. The CIMC can be used to mount the ISO file from your computer as a virtual disk onto the appliance.
Let me know if anyone has the direct link where I can download the ISO.

Oracle product not supported on Vmware virtual environment

Members,
Oracle certification says Oracle products running on Vmware virtual environment are not supported.
One of my development Identity manager setup is running on Vmware virtual environment.
As of now application is running fine and I am getting support from Oracle on product issues.
Can anyone suggest what could be the impact of this in future and what types of issues I can expect in future.

Could you verify this behaviour outside a VMware virtual machine?
If yes, then please open an SR on Metalink to let support diagnose.
Provide an RDA, AWR snapshot if you have licensed the Diagnistic Pack - if not than provide STATSPACK snapshots.

Can't run multiple instances on same page!

Since I got no response on the shadowbox forums after 2 weeks, I thought it's worth to post it here and hope someone can help me out.
Note: This is also related on non-joomla pages. I've tested it on plain html as well (by Dreamweaver) and get the same issue.

I was wondering if the following is possible.
I've tried almost everything where I can think of, but no luck.
Searched many forums and googled a lot, but without success.
I got feeling that I'm so close and missing some simple solution.
So I'm stuck here, I'm not able to figure it out.
This is what I want to achieve:
My website is running on Joomla 1.5. And I'm using a Shadowbox extension.
In an article I've put multiple SWF movies, like previews acting like buttons.
So when clicking on a SWF button/movie, Shadowbox opens and plays a related FLV movie.
To achieve this part I've followed the instructions at this site under FAQ > first paragraph.
So far so good...
Now the ugly thing is when putting multiple swf buttons on a single page, after clicking a random button Shadowbox always displays the same flv movie. I did some altering with ID's and such but had no luck.
Even try to alter with the Shadowbox options and variables, flashVars and such (at this site under Options and Usage) but that worked out for me.
The strange thing is when placing the buttons, let's say in an article belonging to a section and category and make the articles paginated, after clicking the swf button the related flv plays. Browsing to the next page and clicking the button, the related flv will play also. This is the way it should be. Unfortunately it doesn't work when multiple buttons are displayed on the frontpage or an single article regardless whether they belong to sections and categories or not.
Even when a single code is placed in a single article and display 2 or more articles containg a different swf and a different related flv link only the last added flv plays with every random swf button/movie.
This the code I'm using for each swf (actionscript behavior):

Sorry...I still don't get it. What is it about Windows FUS that keeps iTunes from running running the process twice? It can run many other non-Apple windows apps in multiple user sessions (commercial apps, open source apps, audio/video apps, networked apps). I can even run two different virtual machines at the same time under two different user sessions.
Why can iTunesHelper.exe run twice but iTunes.exe cannot? Why can I run Safari at the same time? Quicktime Player runs fine under multiple user sessions.
Blaming it on Windows and/or FUS sounds like FUD. Can anyone give a valid technical reason? Semaphores? Mutexes? An admission (and explanation) that the Windows version is purposely crippled?

Local Application inside Virtual Environment

Hi,
I have a bunch of plugins etc as AppV packages in 5.0sp3. Via the RunVirtual key, I have iexplore.exe set to run inside a Virtual Environment. When this is done, IE has access to all of the required Virtual plugins as it should. So far,
so good.
However, I have Adobe Reader 9.4 installed locally. If iexplore doesn't run in the VE (by removing the RunVirtual key), the Adobe Reader plugin works fine. PDF's open in the browser as expected.
If iexplore runs inside the VE, the Adobe Reader PDF helper is available, yet, it will explicitly launch the reader application as opposed to displaying the PDF in the browser.
Point to note: I do have Reader as an AppV package but users are experiencing issues with the application hanging when accessing PDF documents. So I'm now testing the provisioning of Reader as a locally installed app rather than via AppV.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Did you tried HF1 for App-V 5.0 SP3 yet? I don't know if this will fix your issue with Adobe Reader but HF1 does fixes some Adobe Acrobat related issues. So it's worth trying.

Good find. The reason I want to localize Reader is because I'm pretty convinced AppV Reader is what is hanging IE when users/IE needs the Reader plugin in my XenApp 6.5 environment. This will be interesting to see if it helps the situation.

Can't run batch file in Windows 2008 R2

Trying to run batch file (manually first) with powershell commands.
Powershell commands work fine thru powershell but the batch file will not execute manually.
I am trying to run as administrator.
Is there a permission or policy I may be missing?

Some bat type command can't run in the powershell environment, you must confirm you have choiced the correct lunch tools.

Can I install Mavericks on Quad-Core Intel Xeon (w/10.6.8)?

From everywhere I have read so far, the answer looks like "yes I can install Mavericks", but I'm a bit confused and wanted to check with folks here before I dive in...
I'm running an early-2008 Mac Pro with 10.6.8 (check!), but I could swear that in the past when I tried to update certain pieces of software (and OS), that 10.7+ (or 10.8+) required a later processor than is running on my Mac Pro (which is a Quad-Core Intel Xeon).
With the Mavericks release, it seems to be that I can now update the OS even with this older processor, and then be able to run all the latest software (I really just use MSFT and Apple software). It seems counter-intuitive to me, so I just wanted to make sure I'm not missing something and will be left in deep doo-doo after trying to install Mavericks!

You must have the third generation MP in order to run Mavericks. You can install over Snow Leopard:
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
If all is well then run the Mavericks installer that you downloaded. Prior to this you may wish to make your own installer:
Make Your Own Mavericks, Mountain/Lion Installer
1. After downloading the installer you must first save the Install Mac OS X application. After the installer downloads DO NOT click on the Install button. Go to your Applications folder and make a copy of the installer. Move the copy into your Downloads folder. Now you can click on the Install button. You must do this because the installer deletes itself automatically when it finishes installing.
2. Get a USB flash drive that is at least 8 GBs. Prep this flash drive as follows:
Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
After DU loads select your flash drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the leftside list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to an hour depending upon the flash drive size.
3. Use Lion DiskMaker 3.0 to put your installer clone onto the USB flash drive.
Make your own Mavericks flash drive installer using the Mavericks tool:
You can also create a Mavericks flash drive installer via the Terminal. Mavericks has its own built-in installer maker you use via the Terminal:
You will need a freshly partitioned and formatted USB flash drive with at least 8GBs. Leave the name of the flash drive at the system default, "Untitled." Do not change this name. Open the Terminal in the Utilities folder. Copy this command line after the prompt in the Terminal's window:
sudo /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ Mavericks.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia --volume /Volumes/Untitled --applicationpath /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ Mavericks.app --nointeraction
Press RETURN. Enter your admin password when prompted. It will not be echoed to the screen so be careful to enter it correctly. Press RETURN, again.
Wait for the process to complete which will take quite some time.

Sony VAIO VGN-FW11E - can't set brightness

Hello everyone!
I have really annoying problem with my laptop - setting brightness just don't work. I have tested many others distributions and this work only under Ubuntu 9.10 beta. I think that is connected with this. How can I use this patch in arch?

hmm, i'm not certain that will fix it for you..
do you already have a fixed dsdt for your laptop? if you do, the best way is to compile a kernel with these lines added to the kernel config file:
CONFIG_STANDALONE=n
CONFIG_ACPI_CUSTOM_DSDT=y
CONFIG_ACPI_CUSTOM_DSDT_FILE="DSDT.hex"
that will definitely fix the brightness issue. the sony-laptop module is built by default, so you don't have to compile that specifically (the module is needed to get the function-keys on your keyboard working, it shouldn't have any influence on the brightness itself).
if you don't have a custom dsdt yet, you need to make one following the instructions on the vaiobuntu blog. it's a bit daunting at first, but i assure you that it's doable.

It means the software is PowerPC code, which is no longer supported in Lion. Your choices are to go back to Snow Leopard, run Snow Leopard Server in a virtual machine within Lion, see if the vendor has an updated version of National Geographic that will run on an Intel Mac, or run the software on an older Mac separately.

Can the IPad run Oracle's Virtual Box?

There is a programme from my old Windows set up that I can't get for my iMac, so I run Oracle's Virtual Box that allows for a Windows environment to run on my Mac. So, I'm interested in whether an iPad can do the same thing. Can anyone help, please?

You cannot run the virtual machine directly on the iPad but you should be able to connect to the desktop of a virtual machine using one of the remote desktop connection apps.

Running MII on a Wintel virtual environment + hybrid architecture questions

Hi, I have two MII Technical Architecture questions (MII 12.0.4).
Question1: Does anyone know of MII limitations around running production MII in a Wintel virtualized environment (under VMware)?
Question 2: We're currently running MII centrally on Wintel but considering to move it to Solaris. Our current plan is to run centrally but in the future we may want to install local instances local instances of MII in some of our plants which require more horsepower. While we have a preference for Solaris UNIX based technologies in our main data center where our central MII instance will run, in our plants the preference seems to be for Wintel technologies. Does anybody know of any caveats, watch outs or else around running MII in a hybrid architecture with a Solarix Unix based head of the hybrid architecture and the legs being run on Wintel?
