Can't run iTunes in Windows XP

Somebody please help me. I keep getting "itunes has encountered a problem and needs to close" every time I try to install it. I have McAfee Firewall (disabled), and I just downloaded EWIDO. I have followed every instruction on the support website to the letter. Any suggestions?

Does anything the following article help?

  • I can't run itunes on windows 7 after upgraded it

I had installed Itunes working properly until last week, with my Ipod Touch. Recently I tried to upgrade the Itunes and after that I can't run it. Supposedsly Itunes was installed but don't run.
Please help me to fix this problem.

I've been having the same issues for the past year and a half. I've spent 6-8months trying to figure it out. Went to various Itunes stores with pictures on my Iphone per each step so I could relay all information that I'd come across and the personnel were less than helpful, after conversations that would sometimes last an hour between myself, employees and managers they always came back to "simply uninstall then reinstall" when I told them for the thousanth time that I've done that multiple times and my errors are happening while trying to reinstall it they act stumped and say "well then I'm not sure, I'll give you a call if I figure it out" and disappear. I've been very disatisfied at the lack of support from Apple and if Android to piece together a reletively reliable phone I'd switch to them in a heartbeat. I'll follow this question incase someone can answer this, but I don't have much faith.
BTW, wifey has Windows 7 running on the laptop and my phone syncs just fine to that and no trouble with itunes, just mine (desktop).

  • Can you run iTunes with Windows 98?

I have a dell lap top I would like to use iTunes on but cant find a iTunes program for Windows 98. I want to use my iPod with the lap top.

iTunes for Windows was first introduced for Windows 2000 so there isn't a version that works natively with either 98 or ME. You could have a look at XPlay or Anapod, either of which will work with Windows 98/ME. However both of these are commercial programs so you might consider it worth the extra expense to upgrade to XP if your computer will run it. Staying with 98/ME, you may also require drivers, there is a link in the Anapod page to suitable iPod/USB drivers:

  • HT1199 Can  I run iTunes and Apps on my Windows 7 computer or do I need an ipad or iphone ?

Can I run ITunes and Apps on my Windows7 computer. So  far the one App I have downloaded just won't run. Do I need an iPad or IPhone to run these programmes?

There is an iTunes on the idevices, just a Store effectvily.
There is an iTunes on a PC and Mac, which is the Library handler, and connects to the iDevices for sync and backup.
The Apps that you download for iDevices are downloaded with "Appstore" on that iDevice itself, or downloaded on the Mac or PC with iTunes for transferring to the iDevice.
That apps will only run on the iDevice.
For Window s7 and Windows 8 there has just been released a new iTunes version 11.

  • Can we run itunes as a service on windows

Can we run itunes as a service? If not we really need the dev team to step up and fix it.
With the new option for sync over wifi we really need a service that runs in the background of our home pc's for the sync. As you know this takes place everytime you apply power, or when you hit the sync now button. So, unless we run itunes in its fullest all the time we can't count on the wifi sync to do what it is designed for. Running itunes eats up computer resources that some people need when doing school work, job work, and other important things. So please build a new version of itunes that allows it to run in the background and serve as a sync service.
Anyway this might be the wrong place for a suggestion but hopefully someone will get it to the right people.

Take a look at something called java service wrapper ,
    http://wrapper.tanukisoftware.org/doc/english/introduct
on.htmlNot seen that one before. Ta.
Alexandria software used to support a simpler app called JavaService... google for that maybe if the above is too much.

  • I can't open iTunes in Windows 7

I can't open iTunes in Windows 7 even I download the latest version.
    (iPhone is iOS 5.0.1)
It's 64-bit Windows 7 and every time I clicked "Agree" in tthe software license, it doesn't work.
Then the PC helping centre shows the following sentence:
"iTunes can not work normally anymore.iTunes has the latest version to download, this will solve the problem.Apple Inc. suggest you to upgrade to newest version of iTunes, to improve the safety and stability."
This shows for many times and I keep upgrade iTunes. How to  solve this problem?
P.S. Sorry for any grammatical and spelling mistakes. The sentence is translated by me from Chinese, hope you can know what I mean.

There are various things this could be. First restart you computer
Check to see if you QUicktime works as iTunes can't work without it. If it doesn't work, describe what happens.
Then run a virus and spyware scan as malware has been known to do this.
Then check to see if disabling your forewall allows iTunes to start, this hasn't been seen for a while, but in the past firwall blocking has caused iTunes to hang.
    Then work through this Apple help on troubleshooting launch failures;

  • Can't run iTunes, Apple Application Support program missing.

Can't run iTunes, Apple Application Support program missing.  It's a brand new computer, never had iTunes installed.  I've attempted 16 installs, each time uninstalling the previous install and verifying no Apple software installed before trying again; I've also been using different browsers, still no luck.  Windows 7, 64 bit.

Try downloading 7-Zip (free), or a free trial of WinRAR, and unpack the iTunesSetup.exe or iTunesSetup64.exe file into its components then try installing them individually in alphabetical order (don't try to install SetupAdmin.exe or iCloud.msi). AAS might not install right now, but you may get a more useful error message as to why not, or it might install once the other components have been installed.

  • Can't run iTunes unless ipod connected

I'm running itunes version 7.3.2.6. Until recently I only used ITunes to put a few CD's onto iIpod. I now find that I can't run ITunes unless the ipod is connected. Is this normal?
If I try to run iTunes without the ipod connected I get error message "This action is only valid for products that are currently installed".
Tried upgrading to V7.5 but it won't install and I receive error message "The older version of Apple Software Update cannot be removed".
Tried uninstalling manually but no joy there.
Tried using the Windows Installer CleanUp utility but that leaves lots of files in the iTunes and QuickTime folders and some can't be deleted as they are apparently in use by another program.
    Can anyone help?

+"The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable.+
Okay. That's consistent with the other messages.
Given that there's been a problem with both the itunes and Apple Software Update msi's, there may also be an issue with the QuickTime msi (which hasn't had the opportunity to surface yet).
So let's try the following procedure with that one.
launch Windows Installer CleanUp ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"), find any iTunes and/or QuickTime entries in the list of programs in CleanUp, select those entries, and click “remove”.
Next, we'll manually remove any leftover iTunes or QuickTime program files:
    (1) Open Local Disk (C:) in Computer or whichever disk programs are installed on.
    (2) Open the Program Files folder.
    (3) Right-click the iTunes folder and select Delete and choose Yes when asked to confirm the deletion.
    (4) Right-click the QuickTime folder and select Delete and choose Yes when asked to confirm the deletion. (Note: This folder may have already been deleted if QuickTime was successfully removed using Add/Remove Programs earlier.)
    (5) Delete the QuickTime and QuicktimeVR files located in the C:\Windows\system32\ folder. Click Continue if Windows needs confirmation or permission to continue. (Note: These files may have already been deleted if QuickTime was successfully removed using Add/Remove Programs earlier.)
    (6) Right-click on the Recycle Bin and on the shortcut menu, click Empty Recycle Bin.
    (7) Restart your computer.
Does an itunes install go through now?
*If things don't go well ...*
    ... another couple of questions:
If you get an error message when trying to remove a folder, can let us know precisely what it says? (Mention the file it cites.)
If there were no iTunes or QuickTime entries showing in CleanUp, were there any mysterious blank lines in the entries (or lines containing just version numbers, not names of software)?

  • Can't run iTunes off-network

I have my laptop hooked into my company's network. When I remove my laptop from the network, iTunes won't open, saying it cannot find the iTunes folder. I can only run iTunes when I am hooked into my network settings. It would not even install on my laptop unless I was on the network. How do I configure iTunes so that it is self-contained on my laptop? Can anyone help me?

    Having similar problem with iTunes.msi.
Error 1316. A network error occurred while attempting to read from the file C:\WINDOWS\Installer\iTunes.msi
May or May not be related but I have a hunch it is. This has been around on my Laptop for about a year every since a botched iTunes Quicktime install. Never have been able to get iTunes to run, or update Quicktime from an early version 6. Finally got Quicktime updated and installed through apple updater today. It errored similar to the error you posted except it suggested using tools, download only and manual install from the Apple Updater Menu. Quicktime worked, iTunes didn't so I figured I'm tired of blowing it off and see what the fine people here at Support can offer-up.
    Still have the following Error:
Error 1316. A network error occurred while attempting to read from the file C:\WINDOWS\Installer\iTunes.msi

Sorry, just to confirm, I DID NOT ACTUALLY ANSWER MY OWN QUESTION!
I replied to the previous message from my iphone and I managed to hit the link to "This has answered my question" by accident!
I AM STILL LOOKING FOR A RESOLUTION TO MY ORIGINAL PROBLEM. CAN SOMEONE ALSO NIW TELL ME HOW TO GET RID OF THE GREEN TEXT TGAT SAYS TGAT MY QUESTION IS ANSWERED? That is a pain! It should at least ask you to confirm that your question is actually answered and you didn't hit it by mistake, like I did!
