I haven't been able to view quicktime videos lately in Chrome either. I get the error message "quicktime plug in 7.7.1 has crashed". Were you ever able to fix this problem?

QuickTime supports many different file types & codecs, but not all. In many cases you can lookup, download & install specific codecs if you need them.

Just want to tell u that i got help now, and everything is fine. Maybe u should try to give them more information about the following:

I can't stand Quick Time Player

Some of us have more than one monitor. I own a comedy theater, and our tech booth has two monitors, one of which is connected to a projector. I'd love to be able to show video content on our screen without having to also show the audience the Quick Time Player contols at the same time. Is there an app I can use that allows me to show QT videos but detatch the on-screen controls from the main viewing window and move it elsewhere? Why this isn't an option with QT I do not know (I'm told the Windows version allows it.)

Like you I thought you could drag them off to one side.
I also have Quicktime 7 which allows some things the later version does not.
However I can't see how to separate the Controls here either.
I must admit to not being that well informed on Players.

I am trying to download a h264.mov and cannot ope the file. Any suggestions?

So I downloaded an h264.mov. and when I click on it topen it it tells me
QuickTime Player can't open "Room Serviced_H.264.mov". I click to tell me more and it takes me to an Apple page that tells me this below. But it doesn't give me a solution.

If you have QuickTime Player installed on your PC then all the components that PSE needs will be in place. If something is not working, you can download the latest version (I'm guessing Nederland from your name) from http://www.apple.com/nl/quicktime/ and reinstall it. If not Nederland, then get it from your country Apple site.

If iChat is Open and your think Accounts/Screen Names are logged in then go to the Window Menu
This should list the accounts that are logged in with various keystrokes ( Apple/CMD ( or ⌘) and a Number) shown next to them.
Using these should get the Buddy list "back".
It is possible to Hide the Buddy list and then Quit iChat.
iChat will then "remember" where the windows were eve if this was Hidden.
Can you confirm that after reinstalling or restoring from Time Machine with possibly an Earlier Version you have Downloaded the COMBO version of OS X 10.6.8 and "run the COMBO" (Installed it - again) to update iChat ?
It is possible the text chat Window is also Hidden on double clicking a Buddy.
The easiest way for this to happen is to use a second Display and drag some windows to the second Display.
iChat "remembers" where you last had Outgoing Chats so Audio and Video windows will be where you left them as will Text Chats.
Incoming Chat Invites are normally in set places unless there is a chat already open to that Buddy.
With Windowing issue like this is sometimes pays to delete com.apple.ichat.plist itself (on it's own) and restart iChat (this plist holds the window positions amongst other things)

Perian 1.2.3 *should* work for both QuickTime & and QTX in Mountain Lion. Regardless of the filetype container, whether it is a Matroska (.mkv) or a .mov. As to the actual encoding of the file (h264, .mp2, whatever..) I have found most play, even older formats.
Even though it's no longer supported and is a dead project, it works just fine. It will load as a System Preference file and adds to the Other category in them.
I think in 10.8 you've still got support for QTX so it may work with that. (in Mavericks, it only works for QT7)
If not, just run QuickTime 7.6.6.

Thanks this was useful. I have been ripping my audiobooks and I was finding that they would get uploaded to iCloud in the process, which in itself was fine, but then iTunes would not let me change the media type to Audiobook, which is annoying as it effects how iTunes treats the media. Like showing you the skip back 10 seconds button.
The general outline here helped me work around the issue and change the media type before the media was re-uploaded to iCloud.

Try installing Perian. AVI is a container, not a format, and no single component can open all AVIs.
