Can't save anything in Photoshop??

I am having this message display EVERY time I try and save something in my newly installed Photoshop (cs5) "Could not save "filename.jpg” because the file is locked or you do not have the necessary access privileges. Use the ‘Get Info’ command in the Finder to unlock the file or change permissions on the file or enclosing folders. I have tried Uninstalling and reinstalling after resetting permissions, I have tried saving the file under a new name, I have tried adding a new admin... nothing seems to work and my Illustrator is working seamlessly!??

Hi,
I'd been experiencing this myself after a total reinstall of my system and migration of my files and software. I then experienced problems saving, and in some cases opening, all variety of files – not just Photoshop. None of the above worked for me, but then I found the solution and thought I'd share.
The problem wasn't on my main boot-up drive but on other SATA drives that had all my files on. This is what I did:
1. Select Drive
2. "Apple" + "i" keys / File > Get info...
3. Click the padlock in the Sharing & Permissions section at the bottom of the Info window (you will need to input the administrator's password to unlock it)
4. Click the plus sign at the bottom left of the window
5. Select your ID / the user you want to have access
6. Click the Select button
7. When your name appears in the Sharing & Permissions box, click the associated Privileges in the right-hand column (with two up-down little black arrows next to it) and ensure that you select Read & Write.
8. Select your name
9. Click the Cog Wheel & Arrow icon just below this table
10. Select "Apply to enclosed items..." (this ensures that it's not just the disk, but everything contained on the disk that you have the privileges to read and write)
11. Click the padlock.
That's it! All done. Hope this helps someone.

I can't save anything to my desktop all of a sudden... help?

If you're having trouble making changes to files that are inside your home folder (represented by a house icon in the sidebar of a Finder window), or if you can't get changes to the settings of an application to stick, then please see below.
    Back up all data.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.
I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, they may not work as described.
    Step 1
If you have more than one user account, and the one in question is not an administrator account, then temporarily promote it to administrator status in the Users & Groups preference pane. To do that, unlock the preference pane using the credentials of an administrator, check the box marked
Allow user to administer this computer
Then reboot. You can demote the problem account back to standard status when this step has been completed.
Triple-click anywhere in the following line on this page to select it:
    { sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR..; sudo chown -R $UID:staff ~ $_; sudo chmod -R u+rwX ~ $_; chmod -R -N ~ $_; } 2>&-
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key after pasting.
You'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command may take a few minutes to run, or perhaps longer if you have literally millions of files in your home folder. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2 (optional)
Take this step only if you have trouble with Step 1, if you prefer not to take it, or if it doesn't solve the problem.
Boot into Recovery. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
    Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open.
In the Terminal window, type this:
    res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password dialog will open. You’re not going to reset a password.
In the dialog, select the startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if it's not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if it's not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
     ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.

  • TS3694 Why is my i-tunes freezing up and is accompanied by a message "Saying Itunes can't save anything due to lack of memory and my system is equiped with 16gb?

I Have always used Itunes for my music and for reasons beyond me Itunes has been freezing up and lately it has bringing a mate that reseambles a normal Windows error message but it's telling me that Itunes has to close and the program can't save anything due to lack of memory ? So I updated the program to Version 10.6 last night and while downloading songs and album artwork Today it froze up an brought his mate the message back. And Yet my Laptop is as tooled up as well as a bovver boy on his way to a riot With 16gb of ddr3 plus 2 x Nvidia Gtx 580m's In Sli. So by rights any type of multimedia should run as smooth as silk and i never thought i would have a program make use of 16gb of ram all by itself. So if anybody has been through it an come out on top instead of passing Itunes over for another program and can give any advice or a hint would be much Appreciated... Thanks to Anybody listening....

Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from the following page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
To install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any Bonjour entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another install. Does it go through this time?

  • HT4753 Can auto save work with Photoshop 5.0?

Can auto save work with Photoshop 5.0?
    [email protected]

No. Autosave/Versions must be built into the app itself to use those OS features. It doesn't work just because it's part of the OS. None of the CS6 apps support it, either. The only Adobe apps that do are the latest versions of Photoshop Elements and Premiere Elements. And that's only because the have to in order to be allowed in the App Store. In both cases, Adobe also gives users a preference to turn it off.
What Adobe did do in Photoshop CS6 is add an autosave feature of their own. It saves your work according to whatever time increment you choose. Then if the app crashes, it will try to reopen the saved data when you relaunch the app.

I can not empty my trash and my MacBook Pro can not save anything because there is no space left".No room available error."what can I do? I also have Windows 7 on  my Mac.

If it were me, I'd get a new hard drive or SSD and put it in an external enclosure. Boot into the recovery partition, format the new drive (not the old one) and install the OS to it. Shut down the Mac, open it up, and swap the drives. You may be able to read your data from the old one externally if you're lucky. If you're very lucky you may be able to use Migration Assistant to move all your stuff to the new drive.
Look at ifixit.com for the exact procedure to get to the drive on your model. If it's a unibody it's pretty simple.

  • Photoshop CS6 - Can't save anything

So I can save PSD fine, and I can save as TIF, but TIF is huge. I tried to save as GIF, PNG, and JPEG, but none worked. It gives me the little yellow exclamation mark and says I can only save as a copy. I have RGB color mode on, and it is in 8 bit.

What version of photoshop are you using?
Since layers cannot be saved in the gif, png,and jpeg file formats, the little yellow exclamation point only means photoshop will save a flattened version of your file, hence the word Copy.
(the file should look the same after saving and the original will still be open in photoshop)
If you need to save the file exactly as is in photoshop for later editing, then psd or tiff are the best file formats.

  • Can't save image with Photoshop.

We do often have a issue where we can not save the open image in Photoshop CS 6. To this day the problem appears when the image contains Adjustments Layers with Layer Masks.
It does not matter if we try to save the image locally or on a network volume, we do only get a prompt telling us there is a Program Error. Trying to save as TIFF with layers instead of the preferred PSD format
does not make any difference also.
If we create a new image and copy all layers with masks and all the photoshop paths, this image can be saved and the original image can also be saved if we do a flattening prior to saving.
I do believe this is a bug in photoshop and has nothing to do with corrupted images or other computer related issues. We are working with Macintosh and experience this problem in both Mac OS 10.8.5 and 10.9.3

JPG compression does not support transparency, I think you
have to convert it to png of gif first.

  • I can't save anything to my hard drive. I get a permissions denied message.

This problem showed up out of nowhere. It began right before I installed Lion. Installing Lion didn't fix the problem.
I am able to save work to my dropbox folder, but I can't save to my documents folder. I've tried restarting my computer. It didn't fix the problem.
Word, InDesign, Gimp--all return the same "permssions denied" error. Help!

If you are logged in as an aministrator, you can try this.
Right (control) click on your HD, from the menu select get info, in the sharing and permissions see if you have Read & Write permissions for admin,or if it is read only or  Write only dropbox.
Try entering your admin password and changing admin to Write and read. If the is option does not appear available, try changing system to read only then change admin to Write & Read, then go back to System and change that to write and read.

  • I have an HP PSC 1410v All in one - Windows 7 Prof. w XP compatabilty : worse: I can't save anything

In trying to salvage the editing  program "Image Zone" express and HP Solution Center to do scanning and
editing, I upgraded to Windows 7 professional with XP compatability as I had read online, but it's
    a complete nightmare.
The XP program cannot scan from the printer, (HP ALL IN ONE: HP PSC 1410v), I have to go through Windows 7 and transfer it to my "z" drive and work with the image there.
I had my computer salesman's tech at my vendors talk me through
getting a scanned image from Windows 7 useable in  the XP mode / Image Zone mode where I could edit, but once I
was able to edit there was no way to save it.  IT WILL NOT SAVE.  I KEEP GETTING A MESSAGE THAT THE FILE
IS NOT CORRECT OR THE DISK DOESN'T EXIST OR OTHER SUCH MESSAGES.
sO IT'S USELESS IF I CANNOT SAVE MY EDITS.  ALSO IN PULLING UP A PREVIOUSLY SCANNED DOCUMENT
THE QUALITY LOOKS INFERIOR AND WITH THE PRESENT SETTINGS IS UNEDITIBLE.
WAS SOMETHING LOST OR CHANGED IN THE TRANSFER OF THE IMAGE Zone 5.3 ? .
This was a waste of nearly $300 for me to go from Windows 7 to Prof. version wXP just for something that
    doesnt work.

    Hi,
Indeed the provided functionality offered by Windows Image Aquision scanning is more limited and does not PDF support.
If you Have MS Office you might be able to scan PDF files with it in some of the editions (I believe MSOffice should support WIA scanners as well):
For example, Office 2007 can provide those capabilities as you may see within the linked document.
You may also check 3rd party software (as VueScan for example) which support your scanner and provide PDF and OCR scan capabilities.
For ink level, i believe the Extended Self Test report should provide the ink levels, however i'm not perfectly sure.
You may try printing a report as following:
Press Setup and Start Color . Press the Right Arrow to scroll to Model Number and Press Enter or OK
You will not be able to get any functionality back, as te device does is not fully compatible with Windows7..
    Hope it helps,
    Shlomi

    Hi Sandy
This is the kind of problem that nearly needs You to be a wizard or at least
    "clearvoiant" (don't know the spelling).
There are so much that can go wrong:
    - You have deleted program - Hopfully You know whar You have done.
    - Do You have external devices connected to Your Mac eg; ext hard disks,
DVD-burners or else ? (If possibly disconnect them)
    Then I would start with:
    - repair permissions (Apple Disk Util tool)
    - repair hard disk - to do this You need to start from CD or reconnect an
external hard disk temporarily (Apple Disk Util tool)
    - re-start from main drive
    - make a new account
    - logg out of this and into the new one
    - now start iDVD ans see if it starts OK
    You have a 800MHz G4
    My Blue/White G3 - with G4-CPU and 600MHz takes about 15 hours to calculate
a one hour movie. That means that Your G4 would take about 5 hours per hour movie.
    BUT it shouldn't Crash !
    Yours Bengt W

  • Since installing maverick, why can't I save anything in pages?

Since installing Maverick, I can't save anything to pages.  That includes amended documents and new ones.  What's the solution?

I just found the answer, I think. In Safari > Preferences > Security under Internet Plugings, click the "Manage Websites" button. Find Silverlight and select it to run in "Unsafe Mode."

  • I deleted my desktop icon - now I can't save things to the desktop!

After a complete meltdown of my computer (and thank GOD I backed everything up!!) ... I'm transferring everything back to my iMac from an external drive ... BUT, I deleted the little "desktop" icon from my finder folder - or more like, I dragged a desktop folder from the external hard drive and "replaced" the desktop icon.
Now I can't save anything to the desktop. When I drag something to the desktop it says "The item cannot be moved because the 'desktop' cannot be modified."
Is there a way to get this back???

    No ...
Under "Ownership & Permission" is says "You can - Read & Write", so that's not the issue.
    What I did was:
When you open the finder window, there are several icons that appear in the window - usually the Desktop icon, the Home icon, the Applications icon, the Documents icon, the Movies icon, the Music icon and the Pictures icon.
What I did was, I dragged a "Desktop FOLDER" over from an external hard drive and it asked me if I wanted to replace the Desktop. I said "Yes" and now I no longer have the DESKTOP ICON on the left side of the finder window and I can no longer drag and drop things to the desktop.
The desktop icon no longer exists, so I can't access my desktop VIA the finder window.
    Does this make sense?
