Can't Save As..., Export, etc.

Just shelled out $30 for Pro for Windows. Save As..., Export... and Export for Web... ALL give the same "Error -43", as does any attempt to save a movie embedded in a web page (click the down-triangle in the lower-right of the embedded video and select Save As QuickTime Movie... - BANG! - Error -43).
Two questions:
1. Is it THAT hard to come up with an intelligible error handler?
2. Where do I get a refund?

Thanks. Neither of these helped in the slightest.
In the first case, I'm trying to Save As... directly back to the same directory where the original file came from - just with a different name. If QT can't find THAT directory, Apple needs to take this piece of crap off the market.
In the second case, if I have to actually disable antivirus software for this this thing to work, again, Apple needs to take this piece of crap off the market. But having said that, I DID temporarily disable AVG just to see what would happen. I get exactly the same errors.
Open to additional suggestions. Including how to get a refund.

In my case, the issue is not isolated to saving a file (although, that is where I first noticed it). It is definitely an issue with trying to display the common File dialog - be it for saving a file from a link, or File -> Save Page As, or File -> Open File, or Bookmarks -> Show All Bookmarks -> Import and Backup (to/from HTML), etc., etc.
Here are the things I have already tried (not necessarily in this order):
Uninstall/Reinstall
Safe Mode
New Profile
Disabled Anti-Virus/Firewall
Reset Firefox
I also tried regressing to v27.0.1, and still saw the same (mis)behaviour. I am totally perplexed.
Any help/insight you can provide will be greatly appreciated! :-)

Yes. Sorry, I should have mentioned that there have been several reboots involved during the troubleshooting.
I am running Firefox in an admin level account in this case - so, there shouldn't be any permission issues there.
I have tried shutting down both the desktop firewall software, and the anti-virus, and the problem still persists exactly as described. (Obviously, I disconnected the system when I did that [smile].)
All other software on the system that I have tried, interacts with the file dialog just fine ... so, I don't think it is anything central like some corruption associated with the file dialog itself.
As I said, it is most perplexing.

Can I save custom export settings in QuickTime Pro?

I'm using QuickTime Pro a lot to export/convert many different projects, but every time I need to change the export settings, because there is no way to save them inside QuickTime

But the problem is that it needs to run also Apple script to actually perform the export, and I don't want it - I'm not a scripter, and I need the settings to be easy to load.
I thoigh there is some prefs folder, where QT actually stores those default presets, where I can put some custom ones, but I didn't find such a folder...
Is there any way to do it?

QuickTime can only view WMP (Windows Media Player) files with third party software help:

Not all WMP files are supported.

How can I save or export the file containing stored usernames and passwords?

I'm about to update my desktop computer's operating system, which will mean my hard drive will be wiped. I want to save any file Firefox might have that contains usernames and passwords so I don't have to rebuild that file once Firefox is reinstalled. I've found such files for extensions and bookmarks but not for passwords.

Can't save and export to AVi format

I am trying to send a video to Facebook but it says wrong format as PRE. So I
looked at the Create pure AVi project- when I click on the timeline and then go to File, EXport is
greyed out so I can't use it. What am I doing wrong? I have files saved on a secondary drive with 1 Terabyte of space,1st hard drive only has about 7 gig of space.

I have version 8 but in Steve's book on page 212 it
describes the solution. I'll look more closely at the share tab. I have defragmented, cleared space, updated, all the directions given and still can't get more than 7 gigs on my hard drivie- (80Gig) The second drive has 1 Tb. Can I just move Premiere to that drive or do I still need to use the main hard drive.

Need To Re-Install Windows & iTunes. Can I Save Playlists, Ratings, Etc?

Okay, here's the issue I'm about to face.
I am going to wipe my pc clean (reformat hard drive, reinstall Windows XP Pro, etc) and start over. Then I'll be downloading and installing iTunes once again.
I have over 11,000 songs, all rated (stars) and organized into playlists. I have over 200 playlists (by albums, by genres, etc) and all the info attached to each song.
Sounds simple, but HOW do I download and install iTunes so I can have it RETAIN all this information? The last time I upgraded iTunes (just a simple UPGRADE) it lost all this info and I had to listen to each song and re-rate them one by one.
Can anyone tell me how to go about doing this? I don't want to lose this info, it'd drive me crazy. Email [email protected] with any help. Thank you SO so much!!

That article explains what you need to do. The important file that holds ratings, play counts, etc is named
iTunesLibrary.itl
Another thing you need to know is the paths to the music files have to be the exact same thing after you reformat. So if all your music is on an external hard drive named F:, that exHD still has to be named F: after you reformat.
If it's named E: or G: iTunes won't be able to find anything.

QT Pro - .mov files - can't copy/paste/export - opens browser

On a couple .mov files, when I open them, my browser opens also. As for the .mov files, I can't copy, paste, export etc.
Can anyone explain this, and is there a way to resolve the browser and other issues?

So I went into Iphoto, selected the Trimmed Movie and selected. PHOTOS, revert to Original.
Now I can COPY and PASTE the MOVIE from Iphoto to a normal Folder.
I then opened the original .mov file in Quicktime and trim the movie. I then go to close and save

How can I save or export an .mp4 file that I opened and trimmed without being required to re-encode it. I'm looking for an option to either save the .mp4 file without exporting, or export with a passthrough option such as the one available when using QuickTime Pro. Thanks.

Hmm, I would have expected inclusion of the basic feature set of QuickTime Pro to be a prerequisite for any commercial audio editing program.
The reason commercial audio editing programs don't work the way Quicktime Pro does is Quicktime Pro really isn't an audio app. If Quicktime is able to cut an trip an mp4 file (m4a, aac, whatever you call it) it's becaue it's editing the stream directly, probably similar to the way a file-splitter would work. MP3 was able to have this one too, one could chop an mp3 up in to parts without re-encoding...however, due to the way data is represente in a lossy format, you have several limitations in doing so.
Commercial Audio applications don't do this because it's not going to be done by professionals...even if Audition had this feature, it wouldn't be able to work the same as cutting a wave file. You have servere limitations on where you can cut a lossy audio file up without having to re-encode it.
Cutting the bitstream of an mp3 or m4a file is generally not a standard inclusion for any audio program...
But, remember, Quicktime is a "basic" video editor...not an audio editor nor should it be confused for one.

Can't seem to edit, save or export with QT Pro 7 on some movie files

The movies I'm trying to edit, save or export are:
AAC, Stereo, 32.000 kHz
MPEG-4 Video, 320 x 240, Millions
Other options seem to be not available too : copy, cut, extract, trim, etc. Basically all editing functions.
I am using QT 7 Pro
I am using Mac OS X 10.4.x
I can successfully edit other movies.
Any ideas what might be happening?

Can't access to several sites because when I click a link, or I insert login and password and clickto enter, it just open a new tab, either blank or the same as the previous. i.e., can't save my changes on FB, can't look for a location on googlemaps, etc.

I changed in about:config "network.protocol-handler.expose-all" setting it to "false" to allow me to use Sopcast player (which I added on "network.protocol-handler.app.sop"). But after that, every time I have to, i.e., look for a location on Googlemaps, when I entered it it just open a new tab with the same page I was in; every time I click on a link it doesn't redirect me, it open a new page; I can't save changes on Facebook because when I click on "save changes" it just open another FB home page in a new tab; same problem with opening my bank account, etc. Even here, I could not get in when I tried to login. Now I put back "true" on "network.protocol-handler.expose-all", but, of course, Sopcast doesn't work anymore. What can I do? I'm using Firefox 6.0.2 on Ubuntu 11.04. The Trubleshooting informations I attached here are those that gave me the problem, before I made the aforementioned changing going back to "true". Thank you

I think I may have found the problem. It's embarrassing to find it minutes after posting the message yet I tried to solve it off and on for three days! My brother who is a 20 year Mac user has been trying to help me too. I guess it's true what they say... sometimes it's better to be lucky than good. LOL
I turned off the parental controls. What I don't understand is that the no website restrictions box was checked. To me this means I should be able to go to any site I wanted. Can anyone explain why I couldn't got to a HTTPS page on a parental controlled account even though there were no restrictions placed on it?
It's late and I need sleep. I'll leave this open for now until I have more time to test it.

When deleting iCloud account, how can I save the photo's & other apps etc that are stored in iCloud?

I have recently changed my Apple ID as my email address has changed & also changed my password.
I posted a question yesterday about this & have since discovered from further searching here, that I need to delete and set up a new iCloud account as my iPad keeps asking me to login in with my Apple ID showing my old email address (& doesn't accept old (or new) password). Also, naturally, I can't back up with iCloud.
When I go to delete iCloud account a message appears that my photo stream (& presumably other stored apps etc?) will be deleted/ lost from my iPad too. I currently have no access to any other computer (when return home I have a windows lap top only). I am therefore very reluctant to delete my account in fear of loosing my photo's in particular.
Can any one help with the above please? Would all my stored data (phot's, apps etc) actually be deleted from my iPad when deleting my iCloud account? If so how else can I save (later restore?) my iCloud stored data?

When I went to change my details in the mail settings as you suggested, I was unable to do so. Yes- I could & did add my new email details that I changed to in my Apple ID. however I was unable to change the primary email & therefore iCloud still wouldn't recognise my new Apple ID & kept asking for my details under my old/ original email address.
Though I did search further after this in the iCloud web site & found further very similar questions to mine where users were successful by deleting the iCloud account.
So I went ahead & did this. As soon as I had deleted the account it asked me to login to iCloud with my new email address in my Apple ID which worked fine - & I have also retained all my data.
Again, I appreciate your help & time you spent in reading and answering my need for help.

Please clarify what you mean by "resetting" the phone. When you reset the phone, no data is deleted. Do you actually mean Restore the phone? See the User Guide, Appendix B for the correct terminology,

I can't save to disc OR backup my iTunes Library! iTunes support instructions are to simply select 'File', then 'Library', then select 'Back Up to Disc', but when I try to the only options that appear are 'Organize Library...', 'Export Library...' then below those are 'Import Playlist...' and 'Export Playlist...' (which appears in the list, but I cannot select). No option to save my library appears at all. Just those four. I've had no problems syncing, playing, adding or purchasing with my account and my iTunes version is up to date. Can anyone tell me what the problem is and what I should do so I can save my library?

Yes, you can! But you need Captivate 3 installed in your computer.
First, open the project in Captivate 4. Copy all the slides. Open a new project in Captivate 3. Paste all the slides.
I have done this with Captivate 4 to Captivate 2, so I am sure it should work with 3.
