Can't save as jpeg

CS4, Mac OS X 10.7.5. JPEG is suddenly no longer offered as an option. Save for web still works, but I want to export a large image (not for web) using Save As... which I could always do previouly. I can't see a plug-in for it in the File Formats folder, but I don't know whether it used a separate plug-in anyway. Any clues?

Don't feel bad, as it happens to most of us, in one form, or another. I often am given pause, when many of my Filters are grayed out - then I remember that many only work in 8-bit, and I'm in 16-bit. Obviously, I just use the "fix" that you did, but there IS that brief moment of shock...
Good luck, and happy editing,
Hunt

I edit my RAW photos in Photoschop CS3, save as jpeg then import back into iPhoto 11.  If I add text in Photoshop I can't save as jpeg but as psd.  Is there any way I can change to jpeg in iPhoto?

Yes you can. But you need to flatten it as jpeg doesn't support layers.
While the final JPEG can't have layers, it is not necessary to flatten the original Photoshop file to create a JPEG. There are two ways to make a JPEG while not losing the flexibility of preserving layers, and they both flatten on the fly while saving.
I just tried this in Photoshop CS3 myself. When I add a text layer, and choose Save, the Save As dialog box comes up and defaults to PSD as was described. But... that is just the default! Go ahead and choose JPEG from the Format pop-up menu down below the file list. JPEG is in there. So what happens to the layers? Notice when you choose JPEG, the Layers box grays out and the "As A Copy" box grays out and is checked (i.e. you cannot uncheck it). What is going on here is Photoshop will gladly make a JPEG of your layered file, but it will force the JPEG to be a copy, so as to not overwrite the original layered file. This is good, because your Photoshop file with its editable text layer is preserved, and you get a JPEG copy to put in iPhoto.
The second way is, instead of doing Save or Save As, choose File/Save for Web and Devices. This will also give you a JPEG choice, and also create an exported copy. Because this way makes files for the Web, they will be smaller than JPEGs from Save As because they will lack built-in previews (which you don't really need these days) and other extra metadata that take up space.
Either way you get a JPEG you can toss back into iPhoto.

    Only by exporting.
The Export menu in Photoshop CS3 does not have any direct choices for JPEG.

  • How can I save a jpeg? Cntrl-click on does not work as it did in version 2

In Firefox 2 I could hold down the Control key and click on an image to open a window with a "Save as" choice. Then I could name the image and chose a location to save it to. In Firefox 3, the window opens as before but the "Save as" choice does nothing. So how can I save website images as jpegs in a specified location such as a folder on my hard drive or on a memory stick?

    Hi ddt333,
Base on my test again, I found that if the value of relative position is less than 1, it will uses the absolute position, you could change its position to relative position with the value less than 1 (e.g. 0), after save and re-check its position, you will
find that it still uses absolute position. By default it uses the absolute position, so when we add the new textbox to the document, its position is at left-top of document (left=0, top=0).
The RelativeHorizontalPostion property is used to specify its
relative to type (e.g. page, marging)
There are LeftRelative and TopRelative properties of shape, so please specify these properties’ value, then change
    relative to type of shape.

  • How to alter project's dpi when saving and can you save as jpeg

How can I save a project in pages to a jpeg to be uploaded for printing at an outside agency? I need to alter the dpi and the overall size of the file to enable enlargement.

    Judy,
Yes, Preview has some  powerful tools for such a low-profile system app.  I use it all the time.
The problem that I have with JPEG is how bad text looks after JPEG compression.  TIFF or PNG seem to me to be much better choices.
Increase the zoom on one of your exports containing text and see what you think.

  • Can't save as JPEG without CS6 converting as IFF file

Suddenly I can't save my PSD files as JPEG file without CS6 wanting to turn them into iff files. Keeps prompting me to to choose from a drop down menu as Maya or Amiga files. I've checked to be sure my file is set for 8 bits and srgb. Not working with video files of any sort. In fact, I've tried saving past PSD files as JPEG and it's giving me the same iff prompt. Please help!

What operating system are you using?
    What version of photoshop cs6?
    (Help>System Info)
Did you point the additional plugins in the photoshop>preferences>plug-ins to an older version of photoshop?
Did you move or copy any plugins from an older version of photoshop into photoshop cs6?
Could you post the contents of the Help>System Info from within photoshop cs6?

  • Can I save a JPEG file same as the original size?

I am new to Element and am a beginner. The reason I wanted to use Photoshop Element was to edit high resolution photos for photo books. All of my photos are JPEG taken by a SLR camera. Then, I learned that when I try to save changes as JPEG, the file size gets smaller and I cannot preserve the same quality. If I save them as PSD file, I may preserve the quality/file size, but the photobook creation option in Element 9 is very limited (as opposed to going to Shutterfly website directly). Shutterfly accepts JPEG files only. How can I preserve the quality of JPEG files? Even if I try to save as MAXIM quality, Element 9 reduces the file size by 30% or so. I wonder, Photoshop Element wasn't the right tool if the purpose was "printing" photos? Please advice.

Image size and resolution (pixels per inch -- ppi) are interrelated by division.  For example, keeping the original number of pixels the same, if you increase the size the resolution (ppi) will decrease.  Don't look at the file size to determine what is a "better" quality.
The thing you're concerned with is to not lose quality by saving a JPG image after each time you edit it.  Just work in a lossless format such as PNG or PSD, and only export the final result as a JPG if you have to provide a JPG to your printing service.

  • Can I save a jpeg of a page that used a print template??

    Hi there,
I have just installed LR 1.4.1 and I love the template options in the Print module because I want to print out two photo images on every 4x6 that I send to my online photo developer (ie the images will be 2x3).
How do I save these print pages in a jpeg format? (I don't have a photo printer at home).
    regards
    leanne

With Lr 1.4 it is tough but can be done:
    http://lagemaat.blogspot.com/2007/12/mildly-lightroom-workflow-for-printing.html
ignore the part about profiles if you just want a web image
With 2.0 beta (free download if you have LR 1) it is very very simple:

  • In fiefox 4, you can't save attached Jpeg photos, as Jpeg photos, firefox 4 saves then as a html

After upgrading to Firefox 4, when I down load an attached file ( which is a Jpeg photo, and I'm using Yahoo mail ) Firefox 4 will not save the file as a Jpeg, it wants to save it as a HTML ..... I didn't have this problem with earlier versions of Firefox .... now I have to use another program to convert the image, which is a PIA and adds more time, this is a so called improvement?

Probably only the file extension is wrong and all you need to do is to rename the files and change the .html to .jpg to get valid JPG image files. If you save files in Firefox then you can add the file extension yourself. If you do not see the .html file extension in Windows Explorer then you need to add quotes around the name while renaming ("image.jpg"). You can check the file type via the right-click context menu > Properties.

  • Can't 'save as' jpeg file

I have a group of PSD files that my client wants to have as JPG files. I just went to do a "save as" on one of these and JPEG is not one of the types of files listed. In fact there are only eight file types listed instead of the list of dozens of types that I usually see. The file is 3600x2400 px so I tried first reducing down to 2000x1333 to see if it had to do with a size limit on the file type, but no luck.
I checked and the JPEG file type is still associated with the CS3 program (which I'm using). The "save for web and devices" option still works, and I can also open jpeg files, however I I'm not seeing it as a save as file option. This seems to have just started this morning.
I suppose I could try restarting the computer to see if there's some glitch.
    Any suggestions?   Best, David

Same happened to me and found out that it was set to 16 or 32 bits. JPEG images are 8 bits. Just go to [IMAGE] => [MODE] => 8 bits. There you go, select the JPEG...

  • Can I convert a jpeg into an eps file without illustrator?

I do not have illustrator and I need to convert a jpeg file into an eps file. Is there a way to do this without illustrator?

You can re-save the jpeg as EPS from Photoshop,
but if you need a vector eps, you will need Illustrator or an equivalent program to do it. Also, depending upon the complexity of your file, it may not be able to be an automatic convertsion.

  • Since installing mavericks I can't save files from my HP scanner

I installed Mavericks yesterday and now I can't save scanned JPEGs from my HP ScanJet4890 scanner into the folder that I was saving them into previously. I keep getting a dialogue box telling there is an error and that the destination is Read Only. I've checked the folder and the permissions are marked as Read Write. I've reinstalled the software and update with no effect. Any help would be appreciated as I am in the middle of a project to scan all of my old negatives into a hard drive.

I have the same issue with my HP Photosmart C4280 all-in-one printer/scanner/copier .  I'm using HP Scan version 2.1.3(7).  Actually my first scan saved a file, but when I went to look at the file, it was an all-black page with white lines.  When I tried again, I would get an error message:" Error.  An error has occurred saving the file because it could not be written to.  Check the properties for the file to make sure it is not read-only."  Trying again and again always yielded the same error.

  • Shot in RAW and want to save in jpeg

I shot in RAW and opened with PSe 10.  Did my edits and went to save in jpeg and the option was not available;  only photoshop and tiff options were available.  How can I save in jpeg?  what about the file I am trying to save prevents a jpeg option?

To save time, simply change the bit depth before clicking the Open Image button.
This is no longer a problem in PSE11 as it’s possible to save a jpeg from a 16 bit file.

  • I can't save my picture to .jpeg in CameraRaw, the only format available is .dng. Why??

I want to save my pictures to .jpeg in CameraRaw, but the only format available is .dng. I have to open the picture in Elements 12 just to save as .jpeg. Why??

Because the ACR module is meant to convert the raw data into an image format that the editor can read. From the editor (or the organizer) you can save your raw files to image files formats like jpeg, tiff or psd. Simply click the 'Open in editor' button.
For batch conversion to jpeg, either use the 'process multiple files' option in the file menu of the editor, or select several raws in the organizer and export to a new location in the desired format.
The option to 'save' as DNG may be used if you want to convert to the raw DNG format. You don't need to use that feature.
I highly recommend you take the time to read the help file (Help button in the camera raw dialog).

  • How can I save an image I have created in Pages as a jpeg?

How can I save an image I have created in Pages as a jpeg? The image has both a photo and various text boxes. I would like to use it in one of the Photocard websites but they only accept jpeg. Any easy solutions please.

Hold command shift 4 and draw a box around what you want and then click again, on your desktop a .png file will appear.
To convert it to jpeg, open it in Preview and Save as.
if you want all your screenshots to be jpg, download the free Tinkertool and make the change.
