Can't save file already in use or open

I've seen a lot of posts on this subject, so rather than replying to a specific one that may be on a different trail, I decided to open a new discussion. Lately I've had a lot of problems saving a file while in photoshop cs6 and getting this error. Sure, I can do a save as then delete the former file, but that doesn't solve the problem. Since it happens so often, I want the solution. Since the only application I have running when I get this error is Bridge, I closed Bridge when I got this error, and then I could save the file. In some of the discussion threads on this problem, I did see some reference to previews. I suspect this has to do with Bridge building previews or extracting previews or something related behind the scenes. I will keep monitoring this situation to see if closing Bridge always takes care of this problem. However, I never had this problem before, so I wonder if some of the latest updates created a new problem. I run Windows 7, and all the latest releases of ACR, PS, etc. Thoughts?

Do you have any layered TIFF's? It was a problem in Bridge as they keep caching. Do not know if the bug fixed yet.
Workaround is to turn off TIFF in edit/camera raw in Bridge.

Can a full file path be used to open a sql database connection?

I have a requirement to open an unattached sql server database file with a given path. Can this be done?
This would be similar to opening a Jet database using the path as the Data Source. For example, the path might be "C:\MyFolder\MyDatabase.mdf". I need to put the path in the connection string and open the database. It would look

Could not use file ''; already in use

Setup: DW8, asp VBscript, DNS less connection to Access
database, localhost
In DW8, open web page that has a Dynamic table using any
recordset. Live Data View. No problem. Data displays.
Now in Server Behaviors double click Recordset1. Click test.
No problem. Data displays in popup window.
Now click Live Data View again and get the error
"Microsoft Jet Database Enging (0x80004005)
Could not use ''; file already in use"
It seems that Dreamweaver still holds the Access file open
even after displaying the Recordset1 data in Server Behviors.
Any solution?
(Permission setting on the Access database seem to be ALL

There is a problem with both Photoshop and InDesign, then we can blame wich ever it is.
1. I open a .psd file in Photoshop CS4 by double clicking it in Bridge
2. This image is placed on a page in a open InDesign document.
3. Doing some changes in Photoshop on the image.
4. Trying to save and get this error message (this topics subject)
5. Deleting the image from the page in ID doc, it is the only one in the document.
6. Can't still save file.
7. Closing ID completely and now I am able to save the file.
I tried turning of Live preflight in Indegisn but that didn't help.
So probably the fault is InDesign or the MacOS. I didn't have this problem with CS3. It is a stupid problem because this type of workflow is pretty common and one would expect it to be solved by now.

Untitled File Already in Use or Protected

Hi everyone,
from the starting point when I click on the text editor of Apple Work, a box appears; it says: "untitled file already in use or protected; open a copy?", but I just opened AppleWorks and not one AW file was opened or protected.
I have a .doc file in the trash, and every time I try to empty the trash, another similar box opens (can't empty the trash because the .doc file is still in use - Stop - Continue-). Useless to say that it's not in use at all.

Unless your new account has the same user name, it is almost certainly a permissions issue. Select this templates folder in the Finder, Get Info (File > Get Info, ⌘ i or through the contextual menu), click the triangle next to Details under Ownership & Permissions & change the permissions on the folder to Read & Write for all users &, lastly, click the button to apply to enclosed items. Hopefully, this will reset them. I have found that sometimes the change isn't applied to items in folders inside the first folder, so you may have to do this in several steps.

Illustrator cc 2014 can't save files

I Have a lot of problems with the Illustrator CC 2014. And it freaks me out. I have no idea how to reach Adobe. I've tried another Adobe forum but haven't heard anything.. I would appreciate some sort of help. Or if someone knows where to post the question?
1) First of all can't save files… I wish this could be the number one feature in a design app but apparently not..
I got "unknown error " and all work spent is gone forever. This happens a lot.
2) also lagging problems. when moving graphics and zooming in illustrator. it is SO stressful.

If no brighter suggestion comes up, you may try the list, see below.
Did you install fully on both computers (after upgrading the OS if relevant)?
The following is a general list of things you may try when the issue is not in a specific file, and when it is not caused by issues with opening a file from external media. You may have tried/done some of them already; 1) and 2) are the easy ones for temporary strangenesses, and 3) and 4) are specifically aimed at possibly corrupt preferences); 5) is a list in itself, and 6) is the last resort.
If possible/applicable, you should save current artwork first, of course.
1) Close down Illy and open again;
2) Restart the computer (you may do that up to at least 5 times);
3) Close down Illy and press Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Option+Shift during startup (easy but irreversible);
4) Move the folder (follow the link with that name) with Illy closed (more tedious but also more thorough and reversible), for CS3 - CC you may find the folder here:

5) Look through and try out the relevant among the Other options (follow the link with that name, Item 7) is a list of usual suspects among other applications that may disturb and confuse Illy, Item 15) applies to CC, CS6, and maybe CS5);

6) Uninstall (ticking the box to delete the preferences), run the Cleaner Tool (if you have CS3/CS4/CS5/CS6/CC), and reinstall.

Can't save file with futura font?

I'm having a problem saving a file that contains the futura font. This is a font my company had to buy. I never had a problem with CS1 or CS2 using this font.
Once I place the font in the document it will let me save it once. After making changes and trying to save again I get a window that simply says "can't save file". I've tried unchecking the pdf compatible option and the compression option with no change.
I found one thread on this site about clearing out the font cache (by deleting the file C:\windows\system32\FNTCACHE.dat) and that didn't make a difference.
When I'm done with the document I'll be converting the text to outlines but I need a fix will I'm working on the doc.

Glad you got it sorted out. After I sent you back the regenerated fonts, I discovered something which I'm posting here for everyone's benefit.
Myle nailed it when he suggested an "an issue with font embedding." The fonts you sent me were all embedding-restricted. It's possible you could have saved your documents had you turned off the PDF compatibility option, but it's moot now.
It's doubtful the fonts I regenerated for you will solve the problem because putting them through my font editor did not remove the embedding restriction. I would bet dollars to doughnuts that your replacement fonts do not have embedding restriction.
To check for the embedding restriction, you don't need a fancy program. Just download this Windows extension from Microsoft and install it. Then, right-click | Properties on any font file will give you a lot more information about that font, including licensing/embedding restrictions.

I am getting this error for last 2-3 days. I need to start up the database manually.
Daily there is crontab schedule which will take the cold backup and startup the database. When I am checking daily morning. DBt is going into MOUNT stage instead of OPEN stage. I have check the script every thing is fine.
Note: This is happening intermetendly. Also is error is happening with different datafiles each time.

Also keep in mind that you also need clean starts and exits from shell scripts... in other words, what happens if a 2nd copy of the cold backup is started? Or when a previous run failed and is stuck as a background process?
In my experience, this is often the cause of the problem you're seeing - the database is started up, but the cold backup has a rogue process (remnant of some script failure) that still locks Oracle datafiles.

check do u have proper permission to access this file?
and also check whether Is this file is access by 9i database or not.if this is the condition then shutdown the database and startup from 10g home.

We have a windows 2003 server running 10.1.02 w/multiple instances. I created a new, fresh database using DBCA. the db created OK, and I can login as sys.
When I try to create a tablespace, I get these errors. Any suggestions, please?

O/S-Error: (OS 5) Access is denied.First of all, you need to give an absolute path to your datafile. Otherwise, it's going to be hard to track where's the file.

if i wish to open a FMB file just by click on the file name inside the explorer (NT4.0)
i got the message, 'file already in use'
and then i can open the file. But the message is wrong, because i have not opened the file befor.

I got several updates last weekend. Since then I can't save my pdf files properly. Before everything was fine.
When I want to open a pdf now - a prompt pops-up, saying this:
Read-only document
To modify this document save a copy on your device. The document will be available to other applications on this device.
I found another thread which describes the same error - but I already have 11.7.1 with 4.4.2 and it does not work.

Are these files stored on your external SD card or your internal storage? Android KitKat has added restrictions for third party apps from modifying content on the external SD Card. I can't save files to my desktop, but I can save anywhere else. How do I fix this?

I can't save files to my desktop. I have no problem saving the same file anywhere else. WHen I try through excel, for example, it tells me the file is read only. When I try to save it as a different file name, a pop up tells me I do not have permission to save to the desktop. The same issue occurs when I attempt to take a screen shot (default save to desktop)

Click on it, choose Get Info from the File menu, give yourself Read & Write access under Sharing and Permissions or Ownership and Permissions, and ensure it's not locked.

Sorry, there is no backwards compatibility, you cannot save in format CP3 from CP4. Perhaps it is possible, if you have both CP3 and CP4 installed to copy slides from the CP4 to an blank CP3-file. As long as no new features of CP4 are present this could work.
