Can't Save File and Can't Save As Either

Sometimes, usually after I've been working with Flash for a
while, it won't let me save my work. I get an error dialog saying
the file is opened read-only, or another user has the file open.
What is most disturbing is that I can't even do a "Save As"--I get
the same message. What's even worse, if I quit without saving, it
deletes the file on disk! This happens with XP x64 as well as XP
Pro.
Any suggestions?

truyst me - it takes something a bit more closer to home to
hurt my feelings - if my emotions were
damaged then i simply am taking flash software way to
seriously and would have to reconsider my life
as a whole - so no, my feeling weren't hurt - not sure how
you derived that from my last post - i
was merely explaining what a true "bug" actually is.

Well, I personally have experienced issues with several
different apps way back in the day while
working/saving to a network - sure, perhaps adobe will
include support for network failure in flash
- but unless they hear it from users, they won't feel the
need - which is why i provided info to the
feedback and feature request form on adobe's site:

for whatever reason i get the sense you are reacting in a
passive agressive way to my reply - not
sure why - i'm only here trying to help.

if so, you can decompile it and recover some or all your work.
if not, are you able to rename the fla to a rar and then unrar it?

  • My 5 year old iMac's hard drive is at the point of failing.  I'm trying to save al files on it, but it wont allow backup via Time Machine to an external hard drive.  How can I keep from losing all the files and programs if the hard drive fails?

I'm concerned that my iMac, purchased 5 years ago, is about the crash and I can't back up my files and programs to an external hard drive via Time Machine because the computer freezes after only a couple hundred MB and gets nowhere near the required amount.
How can I save these files and programs if the computer hard drive fails or has to be replaced without the backup being able to be done? I need to do something quickly, but I'm not sure what I can or should be doing.

Get an external hard drive, some good ones that I like are the OWC, http://www.macsales.com Mercury Elite Pro drives...they are very good and reasonably priced.
Get the drive, connect via USB or FireWire, then use Disk Utility to format the new drive as Mac OS X Extended (Journaled), and then use Disk Utility to Restore the current drive to the new drive.  Restore actually clones the drive so you will have a bootable backup on the external drive.
After you have formatted and named the external drive, click Restore in the main Disk Utility window, drag the name of the old hard drive to the Source box, and drag the name of the new external drive to the Destination box.  DU will make an exact clone of the internal drive on the external drive.
That clone will be a complete backup of the operating system and all of your data.
You can test it by restarting the iMac and hold the Option key.  That will give you a grey screen showing all bootable drives.  Just click the external drive, then click the upward pointing arrow under it and the iMac will boot from that drive.

  • How can I open a tdms file and replace a subset of data then save that change without re-writing the entire file again?

    Hi all,
Is it possible to open a tdms file and make a small change an an array subset then save the file without having to save the whole dataset as a different file with a new name? That is to say, is there something similar to "Save" in MS Word rather than "Save As"... I only want to change a 1D array of four data points in a file of 7M data points.
I am not sure if this make sense? Any help is apreciated.
    Thanks,
    Jack

You can use either one, but for your application, I would use the synchronous.  It requires far less setup.  When you open the file, set both enable asynchronous and disable buffering to FALSE to enable you to use synchronous with arbitrary data sizes.

  • How can I get back a pages file and its backup if I did not save them to my documents?

    Hallo community!
My mac got stock on a website because of a java update so I was forced to shut down the computer using the on-botton. Upon restarting my work on Pages I clicked on the file I was working on so as to open both the file and pages but the file wouldnt open. I checked if I had also saved the file on my documents to try to restart it from there. But this file comes originally from a USB which I dont have at this moment although I could kee on working on this file without the usb. The file is not my documents yet it shows on the last files-list of pages.
I cant open this file anymore, maybe because I did not save it to my files. Although this is strange because I even named another file I worked on along this first document. Enfin, the first file even has a backup according to the list but the backup wont open either. I don't know how to get this file back I am in big trouble If I dont get to open it soon! I hope somebody can help me. Anyone knows a trick or something!?

    What version of Pages?
It sounds like it may be damaged.
You do not have to save to Documents.

    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
== I updated to one of the firefox versions (Not sure which one it was)

Thanks Alex, but sadly I already tried that. Neither .docx or .xlsx files show up in the content list. They both show as a Chrome HTML document so changing how Firefox addresses those doesn't help since it thinks its the same type of file. I don't think I can manually add files into the "Content Type" left side nav.

Wow, have seen Files do that, but a whole Folder as I recall!
Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)

When I select on the left side “Computer”, then my shared drive is available. (See screenshot).

    Hi staceye,
Where are you creating the PDF file, and what is the error that you're receiving? Is it a file that is saved in your Acrobat.com online account?

  • I have an older version of imovie.  After I change the photos using the Ken Burns effect and save them, the next time I open the file and click 'show photo settings' to change the zoom, the picture appears black and I can't change the zoom?

I have a five year old version of imovie that generally works fine.  However, when I add a photo using the 'Ken Burns' effect then save the movie, the next time I open the file and click 'show photo settings' the picture appears black and I cannot change the zoom.  Any suggestions?

Have you rendered both iOS 7 and iOS 8 (both of which will work on your iPhone 5) out of the question entirely without trying every possible configuration? The animations can be disabled entirely, if that's the problem. And if the whiter-brighter user interface is the problem, there's reverse-contrast modes that darken everything. You can expose accessibility controls to gain immediate access to these functions to toggle them on and off. I guess my point is you may have decided against upgrading the OS based on an early experience with iOS 7 when Apple has since made changes in later revisions to address some of the usability complaints.
Now, Apple's instructions for downloading older versions of apps is to do so from the Purchased list, not from the app's product page.
    See here:
Install the latest compatible version of an app on an earlier version of iOS or OS X - Apple Support

  • Can you save to file and edit file?

I have this problem with a dummy site i'm working on (for learning purposes) and i have 20 form text fields with an "add extra field" button. They are for entering sales of products, but the problem i'm having is that i use a DB, but come to realize that anything greater then 20 entries won't work if i want to use a DB. So i was wondering if you can save the information given from the form fields onto a file of some sort (like excel or pdf), but later on if i want to make a change to an entry on that file would it be possible to recall the file and make the changes accordingly without rewriting the entire thing?
    Hope that makes sense. thx

Question one: is it possible to store the information as rows in a text file or Excel file, which you can then update? Yes. ColdFusion offers plenty of ways to save the form data to file and eventually update the file. However, doing it that way will be inefficient and error-prone. In effect, you will be doing by hand what database engines have been designed to do automatically. So, stay with a database solution.
Beware you don't go creating a new OrderItems table only because you've run out of columns. If I understand it correctly, your situation is as follows. Your current database table has 20 columns. Each column corresponds to a form field. You now wish to extend your form to 21 fields or more. The extra fields, I would assume, are of the same type as the existing 20.
Question two: what is a possible database solution? Assuming you have appropriate database permissions, alter your existing table by adding more columns to it. It is an easy procedure. Post to the database section of this forum if you need assistance. Otherwise, ask your database administrator to do it for you.

  • How can I save my keynote presentation as one single file and not a folder

I use the latest kerynote version and I would like to upload the presentation as a single file to a collaboration solution.
How can I save my presentation as one single file and not as a folder?

Keynote "files" are not single files, they are packages which contain all the individual files that the presentation requires.
Some online storage systems such as Google Drive show Keynote as a folder.
We use Dropbox to distribute all our file types and Keynote does not have an issue using that.
