Can't save for web in CS5--and yes, I've checked the forums!

Hi all,
I just ordered CS5 through my company (which takes 2 weeks) and installed the trial in the meantime. I am getting an error when I try to save for web:
The operation could not be completed.
A write permissions error has occurred.
Then, when I close the file, I get this error and Phooshop quits:
Could not save Preferences because the file is locked or you do not have the necessary access privileges. Use the ‘Get Info’ command in the Finder to unlock the file or change permissions on the file or enclosing folders.
I am on OSX10.5.8.
I have already tried the following:
1. Repairing disk permissions
2. Restarting
3. Terminal commands
sudo chmod -R u+w ~/Library/Preferences
sudo chmod -R u+rw ~/Library/Application\ Support
sudo chmod -R u+rw ~/Library/Adobe
Any other ideas I could try? I'm at a loss.
Thanks everyone!
Cari

…A more elegant solution would be to have the updates automagically applied during install.
Or at least have the installer utility show a window urging the user to check for updates immediately.
Of course, that requires a much higher level of competence than the Adobe installer and updater teams have been able to muster in recent years, especially after the macromediatization.

  • Error - PS CS5 can't save for web

When trying to save for web (ctrl+alt+shift+S or file save for web) I recieve this error
    What is the fix?

    Hi there.
I just read and tried the answers above and it worked pefectly.
    I have Windows Vista x32
Go to Start and instead of selecting a program .... Type in regedit
A window will appear - make sure that under USER SHELL FOLDERS your PERSONAL FILE has the following path;  %USERPROFILE%\Documents
if not double click the folder - and add the path. (mine was showing C:\ )
Close down Photoshop and restart - open a file and then select  Save for Web and it should work ... it did for me. (yeah! Thanks to everyone for the help above!)

  • Save for web in CS5

I bought a new computer that runs Windows 7 and this forced me to purchase a new version of Illustrator. I previously used CS4 and now I'm using CS5. In the old version I would do the following. 1. Open a new Illustrator document with the artboard 8.5x11. 2. Create a graphic that is smaller than the artboard. 3. Click on Save For Web and a gif would be created for the graphic space, not the artboard space. With the new version of Illustrator, when I create the gif it creates it for the entire artboard. I can't figure out how to force it to create the gif only for the space taken up by the graphic. Do you have a solution for this problem?
    Thank you for your help.

I'm almost ashamed that I didn't see that check box. Thanks for the help.

  • Save for Web... and grayscale images

I noticed a strange behavior when I use "Save for Web and Devices" on scanned BW negatives...
I import the negatives via the scanner's twain driver in Photoshop as 16bit grayscale images. My grayscale working space is normally set to the default DotGain 20% profile. When I want to show these images on the web, I use "Save for Web and Devices..." and I have selected the convert to sRGB option. For some reason, the "embed color profile" option is disabled (grayed out) when the document is in grayscale mode.
When I view the the exported image (in a color managed application or browser) it looks too dark and shadow detail is lost. Examining the file info shows that the JPG file is in RGB color space and has the sRGB profile assigned.
When I convert the image to RGB mode before I do save for web... the exported image will look exactly like it looked in Photoshop. Also, the mode change doesn't cause a change in appearance. Also, after changing to RGB, the "embed color profile" option in save for web... becomes enabled.
I experimented with other working color spaces and noticed that an image exported from a grayscale image in "GrayGamma 2.2" working color space will display almost like an image that was exported from a grayscale image converted to RGB.
I would like to understand this behavior and whether it is correct. My assumption would be that a conversion to sRGB during the export should yield the same result like a manual conversion of the image in photoshop but for some reason the results are quite different.
How can I export my grayscale images to sRGB JPG without having to convert to RGB manually while preserving the tonality from the original image?
I have attached an image which I hope might illustrate the effect I'm describing. The crop on left hand side looks as expected and is the result of exporting from an image that was converted from grayscale to RGB mode (sRGB working space) before using save for web...
The image in the middle is the result from converting to GrayGamma 2.2 color space but leaving the image in grayscale mode before saving for web and devices. It is almost identical to the crop on the left. The crop on the right hand side is the result of using save for web and devices from the original image in grayscale mode with the default DotGain 20% profile.
    Thanks
    /lars

These are my settings. Are they the same in your SFW dialog?

  • Can't 'save for web' in photoshop cc on new mac (yosemite)

I have just upgrade to a new Mac running Yosemite and I can now longer save for web in Photoshop CC
I get an error "no file or directory can be found"
I have notice that in one of my Actions the directories are different on each computer:
on my new computer the directory is shown as:
    "in: /Users/myusername/Desktop/"
on my OLD computer (that works)  the directory is show as:
    "in: Macintosh HD:Users:myusername:Desktop:"
I'm wondering if this is related to my issue when saving
I have spent a lot of time searching and trying different solutions... none have worked

    Exit Photoshop CC.

EXIF is a file format used by digital cameras to store metadata associated with an image.
This metadata can be any of several things:
    date/time
    f-stop
    shutter speed
    camera make/model
    lens make/model
    GPS location
Some photo libraries (such as Flikr) will display the EXIF data alongside the photo.

  • Save for Web is not displaying white text, only showing the drop shadow of a vector.

I just updated Illustrator this morning and now having this issue. I have two logos on the artboard. Both are filled with white, both have the same small drop shadow. The both show up on the artboard, but when I try to save for web or export into a .jpeg the white doesn't fill in on one logo, but it does on the other.
Anyone have any ideas on a fix?

Do the white objects appear when in Overprint mode?

  • How can you save data to a spreadsheet and use different worksheets in the spreadsheet?

I am trying to save data to a spreadsheet.
Each set of test data needs to be saved under a different worksheet. Is this possible and how can I do it?

As the example that Dennis pointed out, this can be done using activeX. In addition to that example I have another that demonstrates how to create a new workbook with multiple worksheets and save data to each of them. I hope that between the two you can get an idea of what to do.

  • CS5 save for web color change problem

    Hi Forum
I've just started using PS CS5 on a new iMac, and I'm having some problems with save for web colors.  If I save an image (for example a shape with a solid color) then add it to a site I'm making then test in Safari, then take a screenshot with Grab, then open again in Photoshop, test the screenshot color with the eyedropper, the color value is slightly different to the original Photoshop file.
Previously in CS3, I had the color settings RGB workspace set to Monitor RGB display, and view > proof setup > Monitor RGB.  Then when saving for web I made sure convert to sRGB was unchecked.  This always worked and would give me the exact same colors in the browser as Photoshop.
I have tried the same settings now is CS5, plus a few other variations (like using view >proof setup > internet standard RGB) but it is just not working.
Does anyone know the correct setup to save for web in CS5 and get the same original colors?
    I'm saving them as jpegs.
I hope someone can help with this.  Thanks in advance

I'm really confused about this now.  My display profile in OSX settings is set to iMac.  I have some specific questions:
    - What should my color settings be in Photoshop?
    - What should the proof setup be set to?
    - What color profile should my documents be set to?
    - What are the correct options to select when I save to web?
I just want to able to save a jpeg image for web, and get the exact same colors as my original Photoshop file.  Please help!

  • How do I save an SVG via save for web?

I can't save for web to SVG format from illustrator CS6. The option isn't in the format list of the save for web dialogue; I only have gif, jpeg, png-8 and png-24. I am sure it used to be there, so where has it gone?
Have I got to do something in the process of setting up a new document?
    TIA.

Has it been removed from the 'Save for web' then?

  • PS CS5 Save for Web and Devices reports "The operation could not be completed"  ?

I teach in a lab of 27 computers, 110 students and part of the curriculum is teaching students to "Save for Web and Devices" this year for some strange reason none of my students can access "Save for Web and Devices"  they get the error message "The operation could not be completed-A write permissions error has occured."
It has stumped our district top network support guru.
We are running PS CS5 12.0.4
He tried this posted fix but it did not work
    http://involution.com/2010/06/13/adobe-photoshop-cs5-write-perimissions-error-on-snow-leop ard/
It worked once last Friday but today it failed, I'm getting very nervous about being able to prepare my students for the ACA exam without this function.
In a discussion forum they suggested "zipping and deleting" the save for web preferences, I tried that.  Shut down Photoshop reopened it and that did not work.
I am at a loss.  Seems like a bug.
    Any ideas.
We are using iMacs running  Mac OS X  10.5.8

The error message may not simply address the location to where the students will save a single file. The error likely applies to the temporary location where the various optimized versions might be automatically saved as you preview the image as JPG/PNG/GIF. I would wager that you would not see this error when you are logged into one of the students' computers as an admin.

  • Save for Web and XMP

I asked the following in the Photoshop forum, but got no response. So, ...
In Photoshop CS3, "Save for Web" now offers an "Include XMP" option. Just to get an idea of what's going on, I set print resolution to a distinctive value--312 ppi--then used "Save for Web" with "Include XMP" to save a JPEG. Then I reopened the file and tried to find some record of that 312 ppi value. Photoshop reports 72 ppi. In other words, it can't find my 312 setting and so it shows its default 72. Same thing in Bridge. In fact, the only way I can "find" my odd-ball 312 ppi is to view the file in an EXIF utility, which shows X and Y resolutions of 312.
For now, I'm ignoring the fact that there isn't much point to saving print resolution for a web file, but still I'm wondering why "Include XMP" goes to the trouble of saving this value as metadata, if neither PS nor Bridge can find it later on?

As far as I can tell, "Save for web" discards ALL print resolution data. This makes sense, because such info is meaningless for a web image. If you subsequently view the web-saved image in PS, it reports 72 ppi, because Photoshop shows this default value when it can't find print resolution data in a file header.
And here's where it gets weird: The "Include XMP" option saves the print res as metadata, presumably for use later on if you want to review and/or change it. And sure enough, I can read the saved print resolution data in a 3rd-party EXIF utility. But Photoshop itself can't read it. Neither can Bridge. So, what's the point of saving this stuff, if it can't be found later on? Maybe I'm overlooking something, or maybe it's a bug. Who knows?
