Can't save library error -54

This error has just started to pop up all the time. What library is it referring to? Where is it stored?
In my iTunes folder I see both iTunes Library.itl and iTunes Library.xml.
Also under file menu I see Library export, so I quickly exported the file.
I am still using iTunes 10.7, Mountain Lion 10.8.2, an external drive for my iTunes media.
The search results here show errors of -50, not -54

I do not have the media on an external drive. I forgot that I moved it to the same drive the system is on.

I've been getting this error message for a couple of days now. How do I get it to start saving the library again?

There's a little known trick you can perform to restore your iTunes library from the XML file. On the Mac, go to ~/Music/iTunes. There you will see two files named iTunes Library (ITL and XML). Delete these files and launch iTunes. iTunes will create new library files with proper permissions. Now, replace the XML file with your backup. Open the ITL file in a text editor, such as BBEdit, select all, delete, and save. You could also try replacing the ITL file with an empty text document but I'm not sure this would have the right file permissions. Now you should have your backed up XML library file and a 0 KB ITL file. Launch iTunes. It will start importing the data from your XML file and restore the library. Unfortunately, your view settings will be reset because this information is kept only in the ITL file.
Hopefully an Apple engineer will have a simpler fix for the file permissions problem but if not, this should help you upgrade to 7.3. I'm trying it right now on my library.

ITunes 7.3 can't save library (Unknown error -50) ?????????????

So ever since i update to 7.3 my itunes is totally screwed up. it always says this when i reopen it: "iTunes 7.3 can't save library (Unknown error -50)"
not only do i have to redo whatever changes i make to my itunes but it lost a song i recently purchased because it "cant save" my itunes library. this is so frustrating. is there going to be a 7.3.1 coming out anytime soon to fix this problem because i know I'm not the only one who has it!!

If you're getting that one on iTunes 7.3.0.54, try an upgrade to iTunes 7.3.1.3. (Note that Michael, who replied to you earlier in the thread, is reporting that here: http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=4923385#4923385 )

Can't save image, error message ???

Hi, I'm trying to save a pdf image in photoshop, as I always do, hitting command S, or going to file-save. I keep getting an error message saying "could not save "x" file because the file is already in use or was left open". Well duh, of course it's in use, I'm working on it.
Anybody know what's going on here? Am I missing something?

happens once in a while not sure why try a save as and over write the file now make changes and do a save and see if it works.
If does not I would reset the preferences or trash the settings folder.

Yes I know. But it is the first time I work with Photoshop on such a big project and I thought it would be more stable.. Do the newer versions manage the memory better ?
You can shrink your image down which will make it smaller enough to save
Not enough memory to resize the image. And in the manipulation, it would corrupt some of my layers..

I could succesfully save in Bitmap format. But I lose all my layers info..
The making loads of screen shots would be good if it wasnt really an
option seeing as it would use even more memory to do that then put the
image together out of the screen shots.
I made screen shots without any problem. I saved them through MS Paint without any memory problem, while Photoshop in parallel was just used as a static image for snapping...

Can't save library files

iTunes is giving me an error message that reads something like: "Can't save iTunes library file. An unknown error has occurred: -48."
What does this mean? What should I do? I had backed up my iTunes files this morning--copied them over to a portable HD; but I didn't change, move or alter the files.

Hi,
An exception name is just any string, like, "timeout"
You usually have a control step, which waits for somethime (say a minute) and then transfers the control to exception handler, who handles the exception.
but i dont know from where i get the exception?
It not required for us to know from where the exception is raised as long as you have created an exception handler.
The integration process, will search for the required exception handler and execute it. Make sure, that the exception handler is in one of the branches of the block.

Logic can't save document error

Logic is giving serious problems. I had my project file, a large piece for orchestra, complete balanced in mixing and was just on the point of bouncing when I got error messages that Logic could not save the document. I tried to save it as a new file, as a copy, even as a template. But every time the same message: Logic can't save this file. Then it crashed completely. I lost 4 hours of mixing work today. Very frustrating.
My hard drive has 430 GB free space so lack of space can't be the problem.

I'm having the same problem. I could scream my head off—normally I would consider doing so a waste of time, but it's at least as effective as checking the File Info window in the Finder, which is what Logic insists I have to do. I don't know if it matters, but this started happening after upgrading to Lion, which makes all sorts of insufferable changes to modifying files, and in most programs removes the Save As option. Perhaps it should be called Lyin'. Anyway, are you running Lion? And are you getting error messages saying that you don't have proper permissions, and should check the File Info window for the file?

Itunes cannot save library error -50

This error has been occurring for at least 2 years. I don't see anything in the community that has ever fixed this and I am now slowly moving to Spotify. I have over 400k songs and this itunes error continues to pop up any time that I search, go to the itunes store, make a playlist, add music... pretty much when I do anything. It is extremely frustrating. If I shut itunes down immediately after the error occurs, my changes will sometimes be saved. This happens about 50% of the time and takes approximately 27 seconds for the saving itunes library window to pop up. The rest of the time any changes are lost.

I run Itunes as admin
Library itl and xml files are NOT read only
When I clear the itunes store cache and reset warnings it lock up itunes and I have to kill it with Windows task manager

I have seen this article. Since the error occurs mostly when I am just in itunes adding music or listening, I didn't do any of the things that were mentioned. This time I shut off Windows Firewall and Turned Off Norton Anti Virus. The problem still occurred.
I have a workaround for adding files that is working sort of:
When adding files they must finish adding in under 1 minute.
At 1:04 to 1:43 the -50 error occurs. If I close the error and then close itunes immediately, 25-27 seconds later it will save the changes.
I then reopen itunes and have access with my updated library until the error occurs again.
Going to the itunes store then coming back to the library whether I buy anything or not will generate an error. I buy my digital music from Amazon now because of this.
I don't think that this problem will ever be fixed until Apple dedicates the necessary resources to fix this. It is a pervavsive issue that has been going on for years.

"Can't Save- Program Error" Update OS?

We have now twice encountered a situation where Photoshop CS5 is "unable to save file due to a program error". This occured before and AFTER I reset Photoshop prefs -which typically fixes any corruptions resulting in operating errors. We have also had PShop freezes when the SAVE dialog has been invoked. When prefs reset does not solve the problem, I tend to suspect sytem errors. I have run disk utility & repaired disk permissions. I have not yet reset PRAM.
Unit has been mostly stabile until recently. We have NOT added any software or hardware recently.
Does resetting PRAM resest Mac system prefs? Any additional basic fixes I should run?
This MacPro has a model ID: MacPro5,1 (quad core Intel Xeon 2.8GHz, 4 core, 8gb ram. Running OS 10.6.8
Should we "upgrade" the OS? Not sure if this vintage MacPro would benefit from an upgrade. (I used to have a very stable G5 which never ran well after "upgrading" to 10.5.8)

In the meantime,
If you do go to 10.8.3 first clean out and look for anything that would use Rosetta and PowerPC, that is gone.
I would if you have the time do a clean OS install and then Migrate or use Setup Assistant. - Lion and ML do not like carrying over old items from before and nothing of PowerPC era.
PRAM and NVRAM are unlikely as they are hardware, nor does repairing permissions.
Where are you saving to? how many drives? where? what type?
Where is scratch preference set to?
how many pageouts in Activity Monitor?
You could also create a new user account and try working from there and not copy over anything until you straighten it out.
I prefer to see the system on its own drive, scratch drive or array, media drive or array for your work and media, and the user account folders other than ~/Library NOT be on the same drive as system.
8GB RAM is minimal for what you run.

Can't save file: Error Code 0

I'm having trouble saving my files using InDesign CS5. The following message comes up: Cannot save... the file "DBTmp534-829951059" is damaged (error code: 0) (Also this affects saving my "Word" documents.) Please help! This project is due tomorrow! Thanks!

This is a file problem, not something that is likey to be fixed by deleting anything. That's a very serious error, are you still able to open the file? If you can try exporting to .idml and see if that can be saved to a new name. See Remove minor corruption by exporting

I am not able to 'save as' a file I created yesterday. An error message box comes up & states that line 249 is an 'unbalanced tag' I am hoping someone can explain what I need to do to get this problem resolved. I was making a 'blurb optin page' just playing around with the newly downloaded DW & ended up (kinda) liking what I had made by the seat of my pants not knowing obviously what I was doing. I inserted a 1shoppingcart html at one point & that is when things got screwey...Line 249 is very close to where I inserted the extra html code... Can someone help me please? ... The unbalanced tag is listed above. I don't know if this is all the info that would be needed for the solution.... Please let me know...

Could also mean there is an unclosed tag of some sort either a div, a table, .. it's only a guessing game without actually seeing the working page.
Could you upload the page (and associated files) to a server and provide a link.
Another way would be to put the page through the html validator and see if it picks up where the error is;

Can not find library error

Hi,
Forms 9.0.4.0.19
I put FORMS_PATH in default.env file to point to all the plls.
When opening a pll I am getting
PDE-PLI018 Could not find library FNDSQF
Just in case I also created env var FORMS_PATH to point to the same place. Doesn't work either.What am I missing?

I thought may be you help me with the next error tjhat I am getting now - PDE-PEP006 Encoded Program Unit has an unknown format.
The thing is that the custom.pll that I need to make a change to was last developed with Developer 10G Forms Builder 10.1.2 (as I was told).
I downloaded Developer 10G from OTN last week, installed, but the forms builder version there is 9.0.4.
So I guess that may be a problem, I wonder I can get the right one on if there is any workaround.

Can't save library over the network.

Long ago I replaced my itunes library on my laptop with an alias to the library on my iMac. Maybe this isn't supported, but iTunes was handling it very well and seemed to be well aware that it was not a local library. Just today, however, I was forced to hard boot my laptop while iTunes was open. This seemed to have corrupted my library, or left a lock, or something. I replaced the library and XML from backup, but now my laptop is complaining about not having sufficient privileges to save the file. I set both files to 777 and I still get the same error, so I don't really believe it. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks!

Problem solved.
The reason is the IP for the printer is set at 192.168.2.20 while my router is 192.168.1.1.
So after I changed the printer's IP to 192.168.1.20, it works.

Error message (-48) cannot save library

I have the library saved on a network drive and it was working fine until I just started getting the error message "cannot save library error (-48). But the library is still there and it appears that new songs/pods are being saved. Any idea what this error message is? Thanks

That error is referring to the iTunes Library.itl or .xml file, as explained in this article:

WHen are you seeing this error, when you try to close itunes?
Can you rename that file? Because if you can't, the operating system is confused and thinks something has a lock on it. Restarting your PC should clear that situation.
