Can't save PDFs from Safari or Firefox after latest (10.1.3) update

I just installed the latest update, and now when I open a PDF in Safari, I can't save it to my computer. I get a message saying "The document XXX.pdf could not be exported as XXX." When I try to do it from Firefox, the PDF won't even open. I tried deleting the plugins and reinstalling Reader and that didn't help. Any ideas? Thanks!

Hi mccradks1,
Regarding firefox, update it to version 10.0 or later and use it in 32-bit mode only.
To save pdf's in safari, please try using the save button in toolbar and see if it works.
Toolbar is present in two different forms:
1.
2. This toolbar appears when you hover the mouse at bottom of pdf screen.
Thanks,
Nikhil

  • Can't save pdfs from web browser

I recent;y had to reinstll adobe pro on a new computor (purchased here). Now I cannot save pdfs from my web browser. Very frustrating. Any help would be appreciated.

    What browser, and what happens?
Are you trying to save PDF as PDF or create PDF?

  • Can't e-mail from Safari's Reader after upgrading to 7.0

How come I can't e-mail directly from Safari's Reader after upgrading to 7.0?  That was a great feature.  Why did Apple disable this or is something wrong with my Safari browser?

Thanks.  I didn't know the command but the old version had a menu that appeared at the bottom of the page.

  • Cannot print or save pdf from Safari

When I try to open a page in preview from Safari to save it to my document management program or print it from Preview, I get the error message "Error in printing".  Any thoughts?

Back up all data before making any changes. Please take each of the following steps until the problem is resolved.
    Step 1
If Adobe Reader or Acrobat is installed, and the problem is just that you can't print or save PDF's displayed in Safari, you may be able to do so by moving the cursor to the the bottom edge of the page, somewhere near the middle. A black toolbar should appear under the cursor. Click the printer or disk icon.
    Step 2
There should be a setting in its preferences of the Adobe application such as Display PDF in Browser. I don't use those applications myself, so I can't be more precise. Deselect that setting, if it's selected.
    Step 3
If you get a message such as ""Adobe Reader blocked for this website," then from the Safari menu bar, select
              Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Security
    and check the box marked
              Allow Plug-ins
    Then click
              Manage Website Settings...
and make any required changes to the security settings for the Adobe PDF plugin.
    Step 4
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens by pressing command-V, then press return.
From the folder that opens, move to the Trash any items that have "Adobe" or “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari.
    Step 5
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it, if it's present. The same goes for a plugin called "iGetter," and perhaps others—I don't have a complete list. Don't remove Silverlight if you use the "Netflix" video-streaming service.
    Step 6
Do as in Step 4 with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari.

  • Can't save pdf from a web site - HELP!

I can't seem to save pdf files from a brokerage account.  I have Reader 9, and one one PC, there is no "save icon" on the tool bar, and no "wording tool bar" -ie, no headong of:  File - Edit - View, etc.  On the other , there is no edit portion of the tool bar.
On the one PC that displays the picture of the floppy disc - the "save icon"-  when I click on it, nothing happens.  I think i have a problem with the security settings, but can't figure it out.  the financial advisor company can save it just fine, so i think the problem is in my PCs.
There is a security section that says the contents of the pdf can be copied, butdoesn't work  not in the file copy mode.  (These are not "fill out the form" pdfs, just regular files posted to a web site to allow viewing, downloading, printing, etc.  i could print, but want to save electronically instead.
    Any ideas?

I have also had this problem with some different web sites - you mention that possibly  it is a security issue so I added the web site I was having this problem with to my "Trusted Sites" list and re-tried saving the PDF and it worked!  Don't know if this will solve your problem, but it did work for me (still don't understand why some sites work and others require an entry in the "Trusted Sites" list.   I'm running Windows 7 (32 bit) and my Adobe version is 9.4.2 and I'm using Internet Explorer 8.  Hope this solution works for you.

  • Can't print pdf from safari

Ive been having this issue forever
When I need to print a PDF file, I cannot do so from Safari.  It just comes up blank pages.
If I go to another browser like Chrome, I have no problems.
Anyone know why or what I can do?
It seems Safari causes so many problems in addition to this one that I seem to have to use other browsers more and more

Also, the little printing window that usually pops up on the dock when you print something and then quits itself after printing doesn't quit itself anymore. I have to actually select it and quit it myself. It's very annoying.

  • Can not download PDFs to Safari or Firefox. 27" iMac running 10.8.2. Have disabled two Adobe plug ins per search in community. Did not work. Dowloads fine on other computer (older iMac, 10.6.8). Advice appreciated. Lyman

New iMac 27" running 10.8.2. Can not dowload PDFs. Have taken two Adobe plugins out of library (as suggested in comments I found last night). Did not fix proglem. Older iMac running 10.6.8 sitting next to new one can download fine. Then have to move downloads to new machine to use them. Thanks for help and suggestions. Lyman

My own answer. This was solved by a simple restart of the computer. This is the second time in a week that a restart has been needed to resolve "refuseal to work" type problems. I don't recall restarting being a regular fix in earlier OSs.Hope this doesn't become a standard fix as that could be really tedious. Lyman.

  • Chinese display improperly in Safari and Firefox after OSX 10.6.7 update

After updating to 10.6.7 some Chinese websites don't display properly in both Safari and Firefox on my '08 book pro, while the '09 iMac has no such problem. On the book pro Chinese characters appear as unreadable squiggles. Other apps (word, mail, photoshop) seem to do fine post-update.
    Anyone encountered this? solution?

Puzzling. Why should it happen after the 10.6.7 update?
There is a long history of duplicate fonts causing problems in OS X. Do you know for sure whether you had duplicates of that one in 10.6.6?
Is this related to other more serious font problem reported by other users after the update?
I don't think the other one can be fixed by getting rid of duplicates.

  • I can't open pdf from safari. I get a blank black page

On a Mac, I can right click if the option is available and download to downloads and open that way but I can't click on a link that is a pdf and it open. It loads a blank black page. Am I missing a plug in? What? IT is driving me crazy.

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems. <br>

  • Can't save PDF from Internet Explorer embedded Adobe Reader

One of our clients use an application to digitally distribute and
approve incoming invoices.  The scanned invoices (PDF's) are
visualised in the webbased application by using the embedded Adober Reader 9.0 in Internet Explorer 8.0.
While there is no problem printing PDF's, on some pc's it is impossible to save a PDF.  When you click on the save icon, nothing happens.
This issue has been resolved on some pc's by reinstalling Adobe Reader, but not on others.
Does anyone know what causes this problem and how it can be resolved?
    Thanks in advance!
    Thomas

    Hi Guys,
I have Win 7 64bit as well, and I have the same problem.
A pain when you're doing research and opening lots of browser windows
    with PDFs in em.
What I've found is that this is an Internet explorer issue.
Everything works perfectly fine in Firefox.
You can save, print, the works, with no problems.
Looks like Microsoft have to do something with IE.

  • Can I save files from 2nd internal HHD after drop?

I have a year or two old HP Envy dv7t notebook which has a 750gb SSD which I use for running windows and programs.
It also has a second internal 1tb HHD which I use to contain my photos & videos as I am an editor, videographer, photographer. This drive has about 200gb of media Files.
I dropped my laptop while it was encoding video in Adobe premiere (running on C drive) running files contained on the D drive. It fell flat on the top side, closed, but fell hard. I was able to turn it right back on, but it all of a sudden couldn't read the files from the D drive.
Let it sit overnight, wouldn't boot this morning. No boot, so I removed the back and disconnected and reconnected both drives from underneath. Still no boot. Did a hard reset, got it up and running. Took some time but eventually I was able to see some folders on the D drive so I started the backup process to my USB external drive.
It ran about 6 hours unsupervised, when I came home and looked at the computer it now is not even picking up the D drive at all. Some files transferred but not many. Restarted computer, still no D drive.
Where do I go from here?
If I get a SATA enclosures I'll I be able to salvage my files??? I'm letting it sit without the battery overnight and figure I will post this and try suggestions in the AM.. In panic mode... Thank you!
    -Emilie

You really need to save the file(s) to a Flash Drive or External Hard Drive.
Also if you don't mind me asking, why do you want to re-install the OS X instead of just cleaning out some of the things that you no longer want?

  • My macbookpro is not opening pdf sites from safari or firefox, it goes to the address but just gives me a black screen. I can however open a pdf file that I have saved on my HD, it opens on preview. any thoughts?

    Back up all data.
Triple-click the line of text below to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste (command-V) into the text box that opens, then press return.
From the folder that opens, remove any items that have the letters “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari, and test.
I've seen an unconfirmed report that the "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can also interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you might need to remove it as well, if applicable.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.
