Can't scan (HP All in One) with my MacBook

My HP All in One scanner works fine with my iMac desktop, but I can't get it to work with my MacBook. The device scans (but says "Enter Fax Number") but won't transfer the scanned sheet to the desktop. Thanks for any suggestions!

The reason for asking which OS X version you are using is that as of OS X 10.7, all scanning functions that previously required HP's proprietary software have been incorporated in OS X.
You can scan three ways:
Preview > Import from Scanner...
If the scanner is wireless or otherwise networked select "Include Networked Devices" (select this menu option once - it will appear to do nothing but the next time you select it, your scanner will appear).
Preview is in your Applications folder.
The Image Capture program in your Applications folder
System Preferences > Print & Scan > (select your HP) > Scan tab.
As much as I have tried, I was never able to initiate scanning from the scanner, not for any version of OS X, ever. You must initiate scanning from the Mac. HP's support forum is filled with questions regarding this problem. I never found a solution.

There is a program that comes with the printer called the IJ Scan Utility that can assist you with scanning multiple pages into a single file. To scan using the IJ Scan Utility, please follow these steps:
1. Start IJ Scan Utility by going to your Start menu, then selecting All Programs, then Canon Utilities, then IJ Scan Utility (folder), then IJ Scan Utility (program).
2. In the Canon IJ Scan Utility window that opens, click SETTINGS.... in the bottom right of the window. The Settings dialog box appears.
3. Click the DOCUMENT SCAN option on the left pane of the window.
4. In the right pane of the window, locate the SELECT SOURCE field and select the DOCUMENT option.
5. Set the color mode, document size, and scanning resolution as required in the rest of the fields shown in the window. Click DOCUMENT SCAN ORIENTATION SETTINGS... to specify the orientation of the documents to be scanned.
6. In the SAVE SETTINGS section of the window, you will select the save format and location of the document you are about to scan.
a.) In the FILE NAME field, specify the name you would like to give the file. By default the filename will begin with IMG; you can remove IMG and change it to whatever you would like to name the file.
b.) In the DATA FORMAT field, use the drop-down arrow to select the PDF (Multiple Pages) option.
c.) In the SAVE IN field, please navigate to the area where you would like the file to be saved once it is scanned in. By default, the file will be saved in the DOCUMENTS folder.
7. Once all settings have been selected, click the OK button at the bottom of the SETTINGS (DOCUMENT SCAN) window. The IJ Scan Utility main screen appears.
8. Click the DOCUMENT button. Scanning starts. After a page has scanned, the screen to continue or end scanning appears. If you have more pages to scan, place the next page on the platen and click Scan. Do this each time a page has completed scanning. After the last page has been scanned, click Exit. Scanned images are saved in previously selected folder location specified in the SETTINGS... window. Click the CANCEL button to cancel scanning if needed during scanning.

I was trying to move several albums onto a USB drive and it stated all other files exist at this location. They are pictures taken at different times and have the same number I guess.

In iPhoto albums may contain photos with the same file name - iPhoto handles that just fine
If you are exporting them to move somewhere else use the sequential file name feature of export to give each file a unique name

I Have a HP all in one with Windows 7 With a touch sccreen. I would like to use it as monitor of my mac mini.
I do not care for the Windows 7. My PC does not have any display port. Only has usb 2.0 and ethr]ernet port.
Right now I am uisng an all in one Sony Windows 8, wich is adapted for that purpose. But I like the HP Better.

And it's totally impractical for any OS to provide complete backwards compatibility in perpetuity. So no, Apple cannot grant your request. As WJ said, it's the developers' reponsibility to provide updates to their applications to be compatible with newer operating system releases, whatever the platform might be.

If this is a fairly new Mac running either v10.7 Lion or v10.8 Mountain Lion she can use Lion or Mountain Recovery to repair the startup disk or reinstall OS X.

How can I control my my mac mini with my macbook air (no wifi)? Also...what is the best method (less lag) for screen sharing?
I own a mac mini Quad Server 2.0 i7 and I use it for audio production. It's great but I need to travel with it. I was hoping some form of screen sharing could be useful using the macbook air to control the mac mini. Therefore, I'd be using the stronger processor of the mac mini but would still be using the keyboard and trackpad from the air.
My two problems:
1. I can't depend on wifi to make this happen. Wifi is not always available when travleing. What would be the best way to configure a LAN connection?
2. The less lag the better for screen sharing. Which apps are fastest?

If you are using airplay then that should be fine once the content is playing. You can't use home-sharing in this manner however.

Elgato provides a download link to their latest Video Capture software v1.1.5. Supposedly runs on Snow Leopard and later. They recommend Yosemite.
