Can't scan on 2540. Scan option icon on HP s/w no loger showing up

2540 and HP s/w on my laptop successfully installed at home on WiFi.  Then I moved everything to my RV...which meant placing PCs and the 2540 on a different network.   Had to uninstall HP desktop s/w (on Toshiba Win8.1 64) and REMOVE the printer and then install s/w again in order to achieve printing capability on my RV-based WiFi (the process included using USB).  I can print now, but cannot scan.  Even ran HP print/scan doctor with no satisfaction.   Again: I cannot scan.  The HP s/w doesn't offer this as an option as it did in my original "home" installation.  When I click on the HP desktop icon now, I'm prompted with "Do you want to allow the following program to make changes?"  I've proceeded with YES several times.  No help. Further:Under Control Panel / Devices & Printers, there are two HP icons:  (1) reads HP Deskjet 2540 series, the other (2) reads the same but includes the word "driver"....and the "driver" icon is the default and is functional for printing.  The (1) icon cannot be made default, and when clicked upon, the new screen reads "No tasks are available on this page".   FWIW, I cannot scan when attempting IE web page straight to the HP's IP address. When at home, I had an HP desktop icon that, when clicked, took me to a HP screen that included "Scan".   The current/same icon now forces me to "Do you want to install more s/w" ..... and when "yes", I have 2 viable options but the "Add More Software" is in black print (cannot click on it).  To the right of this 3rd option, if I choose "Visit HP.com", I am overwhelmed at what HP wants me to do next (spend money, is clearly the goal of the screen).  No help there. Several times, I've tried removing all HP s/w and printers and whatever I could imagine....then re-locaded the s/w both from the CD and via the web.  Signed:  Truly Frustrated.

Hi , Welcome to the HP Forums! I noticed that you cannot scan with your HP 2540, on Windows 8.1. I am happy to look into this scanning issue for you!  To verify the printer's hardware is fully functional, are you able to make copies? Copying Documents.  Also, if you are able to copy, what happens when you try to scan without HP software?
