Can't Scan since Tiger!

I have an Epson CX6400 multifunction printer that worked great until now. I can't scan with Epson scan or Image capture. I tried advice in this forum, namely uninstalling and reinstalling- to no avail. I downloaded a demo version of VueScan which works wonderfully well, but I hate to spend $50 to be able to scan again, if there's another way. Any help would really be appreciated!! thanks!

Have you checked the Epson site for an updated driver? Is the problem with scanning only, or printing as well? Assuming you have EpsonScan software, can you launch it directly? You might also email Epson & see what they suggest.
In the meantime, if you have Word, try going to Insert>Picture>From Scanner or Camera to see if the unit is recognized.

  • Can not print nor scan since Tiger upgrade

Since I've upgraded to Tiger I can not print using my Canon i9900 (driver version 2.5.1) or scan using my Epson perfection 3200. Both use firewire. My Sandisk card reader which is USB is fine. When I try to print using Photoshop, Photoshop says I need an "acquistion module interface" (some plug-in). In system profiler, under firewire it doesn't list either my printer or scanner.... it just gives the maxium speed of the firewire bus.
I've tried reinstalling the printer & scanner, I tried downloading the latest Epson scanner driver from their website, I've checked all the connections, I reset the printing system and I've tried everything I could think of with adding, deleting and reconfiguring the printer. In the printer set up menu, I couldn't find my printer so I manually typed it in, the location was unknown. Does anyone know what the choices should be for location? I only use one printer and it's plugged directly into the computer.

you might try to re-import them (from the iP library 4) into the iP library 5, (while iP5 is running).
Drag pics from old library4 onto the iP5 window while it's in operation. It will import your pics into the new IP5 library.
Else, when you upgraded to iP5, and opened iP5 for the first time, you should have gotten a message that the old iP4 library needed to be updated. If you said yes, then the old/newly converted iP library, will not open with iP4 anymore. You can move up, but not down!
So if you are not sure, always make a backup of your ip4 library, before upgrading to ip5!
    hope it helps!

  • Can't scan or connect to WPA network since kernel upgrade

    Hi guys,
I upgraded to kernel 2.6.29 earlier today and have been having trouble with scanning and connecting to WPA encrypted networks since. I'm stuck with a wired connection for the minute, but I can't have the wire going through the house for so long otherwise somebody will trip over it - probably me.
I usually use netcfg to connect to the network, but since the update that has failed.
My network called is a Belkin USB Wireless G, model number F5D705ed version 5000ed. It worked perfectly fine on 2.6.28 using the rtl8187 native drivers.
    dmesg output for 2.6.29

I can start the card up using
    sudo ifconfig wlan0 up
When I attempt to scan for a wireless network, I get
    sudo iwlist wlan0 scan
    wlan0 No scan results
The network is WPA, and would scan fine on 2.6.28.

I should note though, that since the update - /var/run/wpa_supplicant seems to have disappeared.

I've made some progress though - but still can't connect. I can now scan for a network though.
    /etc/conf.d/wireless-regdom
    WIRELESS_REGDOM="GB"
/var/run/wpa_supplicant still didn't exist, so I created a /var/run/wpa_supplicant folder - and saw a few success messages in the log. This allowed me to bring the card up again and scan for a network.
At this point, I was getting excited until netcfg2 still kept telling me that it couldn't associate with the network.
    I installed wicd and gave that a go and got the following. I did a 'tail -f /var/log/wicd/wicd.log' and got this;

  • Why can't I see Tiger as a startup disk on external drive since upgrade?

    Hi,
Before I upgrade my Powerbook G4 Aluminum 15" to Leopard, I decided to create a bootable external drive, both with Tiger and Leopard partitions installed on it, to try Leopard out and also so I can later boot into Tiger if I need to. Now that I've booted into Leopard on my external drive, when I go to "startup disk" in system preferences, the Tiger OS on the same external drive isn't showing. I know it's on there and it showed up as an option when I was running Tiger off of the PB's internal drive, but now it's gone when booted in Leopard from my external drive.
I do see the option to choose to boot from Tiger on my PB, but my fear is that once I upgrade it to Leopard, it won't recognize Tiger on my external drive and I'll be unable to boot back into Tiger if needed.
Does anyone know why this might be happening?
    Thanks!

No but you still can boot up into Tiger if you want to. Plug in your external HDD. Restart your computer holding the option button. You'll have the option to choose which start up drive you want to boot into. That's how I do it all the time.

  • How can I convert my Tiger DVD into a CD without spending more money?

How can I convert my Tiger DVD into a CD without spending more money and time? I've spent over seven hours trying to upgrade an iMac 350 Hz OS 9.1 to Tiger. I have changed the iMac firmware to 4.1.9, but found that my Panther disc was only an OSX Upgrade, although the 3 cds are labeled as Installation Discs. Since I have a Tiger disc I thought I would use that. Unfortunately, my iMac only reads CDs, not DVDs. I tried networking the iMac to my G5, but upon shutdown, the OSX disc cannot be accessed. I copied the DVD files to my iMac hard drive, but again, the OSX disc cannot be accessed after shutdown.
Is there a way I can burn a CD from the files of my Tiger DVD to get this task accomplished?

Excuse me, but I never thought of that, nor did I have any intention of trying to rip off your company.
I purchased four iPods for my family this Christmas. I have six iMacs just sitting around not being used. I thought that I would turn one into an iPod work station, so everyone can use one computer to recharge and hook up to iTunes 7.
Unfortunately, iTunes does not work very well in OS9. Apple decided not to continue to support OS9 very well. I’ve spent several hours attempting to upgrade the iMac so I could set up iTunes 7. Unfortunately, my 3 Panther Installation Discs were mislabeled, and did not allow me to install OSX over OS9. My OSX 10.2.7 Installation Disc is a DVD, and my Tiger Installation disc is a DVD. Neither usable to update the iMac.
All I want to do is set up a dumb iMac as a network interface to my G5 because I've use all of the G5's ports for our recording studio and the iPods need external power source if they are plugged directly into the G5.
If you could show me an easier way to run iTunes 7 on the iMac I wouldn't be as ****** off as I am at Apple for not supporting the 9 older computers I own with usable help and upgrades.

  • Can't scan from Lexmark multifunction printer - firewall issue?

    Hi there!
I got a Lexmark printer/scanner combo which used to work fine on my arch install. However, its mobo died, so now I'm back at another install which refuses to scan. Scanning is done through the browser via a java applet residing on the printer's webserver. The applet does start (so it's not a java issue), but refuses to receive data from the scanner. Within the printer's web interface, it reads
If using Windows XP, the Windows XP personal firewall must be disabled before using Scan to PC profiles.
, so I'm assuming it might be a firewall issue. Lexmark's website provides the following advice:
The following two command lines will open the port 5353 for incoming and outgoing connections:
    iptables -I INPUT -p udp -m udp --sport 5353 -j ACCEPT
    iptables -I OUTPUT -p udp -m udp --dport 5353 -j ACCEPT
NOTE: These steps will work on most distributions configured with IPTABLES. There is no common command to make these rules persistent.
As I don't know anything about IP tables, I've simply copied these commands (as root, obviously). Still, I can't scan.
    So, my questions are:
    1. Has anybody else ever come across an issue like this?
    2. I don't even know for sure, whether this is a firewall issue - What iptabled magic would I need to temporarily disable the firewall to check?
    3. I tried checking my rules by "iptables -L". How can I tell "iptables -L" to specify the ports it is working on (as I did in the commands copied from lexmark's website)?
    Best wishes,
    Rufus

    Hi Bob
I believe so.  We put the install disc into this mac back when we bought it to set up the printer.  I'm assuming the scanning drivers were there as well since it's a multifunctional printer/scanner/fax wireless printer.
We've tried it both ways.  If I press the button scan on the printer, it reads can't find computer (or something like that).  When we go thru the HP icon on my computer screen and choose scan to computer, it does nothing.
We don't scan that often.  So the few times when we ran into this problem, we just did something else (like take a pic from our iPhone and email the pic...kinda stupid but did the trick.
But I want to have the function of the scanner available.  So that's why I'm here asking...thought others had this issue and had a solution.

  • Can't scan from M1536dnf after reformatting computers

After formatting two computers in our office they can no longer scan from our M1536dnf, which is connected via Ethernet to our local network. The error message says "Scanner communication cannot be established. Ensure your product is powered on, check the connection, and ensure your network is functioning properly. If these conditions are correct, restart the product and try scanning again."
They could scan before being formatted and all other computers in the office can still scan documents. They Operating system wasn't changed (they were running Windows 7 before and are running Windows 7 now, the same as all the other computers in our office). I've tried updating the firmware on the I've tried version 4.3 of the HP Print and Scan Doctor and it says there's a Windows (WIA) scan error. I've tried what it recommends, which is completely uninstalling the software, rebooting, and reinstalling everything with the most current full feature software version. I've tried turning off and on everything involved (printer, computers, network gear, everything). I've checked that the Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) service is set to Automatic. I've tried disabling the built-in Windows Firewall and we're not using any antivirus software nor any firewalls on the local Ethernet switch. I've tried manually specifing an IP address, which does not conflict with any other IP addresses on the network. Throughout all of this I can still print from these two computers and other machines in the office can print & scan just fine. We have another older scanner in the office and these two computers can still scan using that one but it doesn't have as many features. The HP ToolboxFX still works from these two computers.
I'm completely out of ideas on how to fix this. It's especially annoying since it was working before & continues to work on the other computers in the office. Any clues on what I should try next?

  • Internet kernel panics since Tiger upgrade

Last Friday (9/9) I upgraded my eMac from Panther 10.3.9 to Tiger 10.4.2, and added memory (purchased from Apple), increasing from 256 to 768 MB. Since then I have experienced kernel panics four times while connected to the Internet (Safari) via built-in cable modem (I use dial-up, 56k modem). Anyway, I think it's a kernel panic-- gray screen descends and says I must restart computer using power button; when I restart, message appears saying: "The computer was restarted after MAC OS X quit unexpectedly." On a few other occasions, my modem is disconnecting and I have to dial up again. Anyone have any ideas what might be going on and what I can do to solve the problem?

JMVP: I did update Safari; as far as Java, I was downloading update via my dial-up with 56k modem; with only about 7 minutes remaining (after a nearly two-hour download) the modem disconnected, so I have to start from scratch tomorrow. The install disk for Tiger was for 10.4, then I used Software Update to download 10.4.2 Combo Updater and did permissions repair.
Someone at my office suggested that perhaps the newly-installed memory module is defective; I guess that's a possibility, but my guess is that the odds are small that Apple would ship a defective module (or am I naive?) Guess my first step will be to remove the new module and see if computer runs smoothly. I hope it does; at least I'll know what the problem is. I fear, however, problems will persist and I'll be back to Square 1.
One other thing, I noticed that since Tiger/memory installation, when I put the computer to sleep a small but very bright flash of light is emitted in the center of the screen just as computer enters sleep mode. I'm certain this never used to occur. Wonder what that's all about.

  • How can I upgrade from Tiger to Leopard

Hello all, hope you can help me.
I´m running Tiger Last Vers on a white MacBook with 1.83 GHz, 55GB Hd and 2 GB RAM.
The thing is that the iPhone 3gs is running quite well (not last version updated, but at least, it runs) and I recently got an iPhone 4, that is too new for my Tiger.
Thus, needs an upgrade, but the Apple Store only provides  the Snow Leopard.
    So:
.- Can I upgrade the Tiger to the SnowLeopard directly, buying the OS from the Apple Store?
.- Do I need first to upgrade Tiger to Leopard? If so, how do I do that?
I know the very best option is buying a new Mac, but currently for me it doesn´t make any sense as I only want it to sync my devices...
    So, any idea?
It´s been almost 10 days since I got my iPhone 4, and I cannot even start it!
    Much appreciated

  • F2180 - Can't scan in Windows 7 , the rest works.

    hi .
I looked in the entire forum for this solution . the software is working. the driver passed. it prints . everything is ok with the printer
I have windows 7 64 bit and I just can't scan! maybe there is no support for this old printer at windows 7? or there is.
everything is updated . I install the software 10 times . delete lvl 4 everything . just can't use the scan feature. it stuck when I try to scan.
    Thanks .

I'm no expert but don't think it's because of Windows 7 - I've had this printer for about 4 years and used it ok ALL FUNCTIONS on Vista. Now my new laptop's OS is Windows 7 64-bit and until recently it did scan ok on Windows 7. It is only in last 2 days the problem has arisen and it won't Copy or Scan but prints ok.
The last time I uninstalled the HP drivers etc and downloaded the current version from HP I successfully installed everything and then tried a scan and "lo and behold" it started working - BUT about three quarters through, the image which was slowly appearing on my screen, suddenly stopped and since then nothing works on scanner function. The HP manager keeps telling me to align the new cartridges but although I can print the alignment test page I can't scan it so I'm totally bemused and will probably just dump the printer when the ink cartridges run out and buy another model - maybe a different manufacturer.

  • Scanning with Tiger

Please can someone help, since I updated to 10.4.2 I cannot use the image capture . I want to scan a photo. I could do this before in 10.4 What can I do? The help menu doesn't seem to work very well either. Any help would be very welcome Thank you Teresa

Yes, I bought the missing manual too. I think I would have been completely lost without it! Everything is so well hidden that for someone like me who finds it very difficult to remember the sequence that brings success it is hard.
Donna, I really don't know why the scan button was grey until I pressed the box on the programme in the top left hand corner but then I chose to 'frame' the image that I wanted to scan and the scan button was dark and useable. You know far more about these things than I do. My son says that I should get 'Photoshop" but then he knows how to use it and needs it for his work . I looked up the price and it is very confusing. All I need is something to scan . I did find out how to change the colour in 'image capture' this morning Thank you very much for your interest. Teresa

  • Can you scan w/officejet 4500 to Windows 8.1RT surface

We checked the window8.1 rt compatibility to see if the the HP Officejet 4500 Wireless All-in-One G510n to z printer would work on the Surface (since our 4400 would not). The 4500 is compatible. We got the wireless network set up, got the printer on the network and we can print wirelessly - yeah!  BUT we can not scan. The HP Scan and Capture App only lets us use the camera to "scan" the document. We would prefer to use the glass to scan documents (they come out better).  We have looked all over the web for solutions, some say to enable EWS - We accessed the printer via its IP address, but we don't see the "scan" tab all the sources say to access.
Is it possible to scan using the HP Officejet 4500 Wireless All-in-One G510n to z to a Windows Surface (8.1rt)?
(FYI we can't update any drivers, windows RT platform does not allow it and we don't have any other computer to work from.)
    Thanks

Hi jacorcoran. Scanning should be possible with built in scanning capability. This document shows 2 different ways to scan in the "Windows RT" section.
How to Scan: Windows RT or Windows 8 Tablets:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c03536828&tmp_task=useCategory&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=e...
If this doesn't allow for scanning, the printer's scanning component will need to be troubleshot. Make sure you can do a stand alone copy (direct from the front of the printer) to ensure the scanning hardware is functioning. Let me know how it goes.

  • HT1338 Can I upgrade from Tiger (10.4) to Lion (10.7)

Can I upgrade from Tiger (10.4) to Lion (10.7) without purchasing and installing Leopard (10.5) and Snow Leopard (10.6)?
The spects on this MacBook5,1 is MacBook (13-inch, Aluminum, Late 2008)

    You can't.
In order to get Lion you must be running Snow Leopard 10.6.8
To get there you must purchase the Snow Leopard install DVD from Apple
Then update to 10.6.8 which will give you the App Store to purchase Lion
Since Lion is no longer available on the App Store, you will have to call Apple and purchase a code to download it from the App Store
