Can't see/access iphoto photos from Photoshop....

Thanks to those who responded to my last thread..... I am going to try those suggestions. Interestingly, when I took the imac to the genius bar, they threw their hands up and said it couldn't be done ......
meanwhile, I have the same issue trying to open iphoto photos from other apps, like Facebook, Snapfish, etc when trying to upload photos... will the same advice from before also work for this?
Thanks very much,
Aeron

There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:
*For Users of 10.5 and later*
You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Command-Click for selecting multiple pics.
Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
(Note the above illustration is not a Finder Window. It's the dialogue you get when you go File -> Open)
You can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
*For users of 10.4 and later* ...
Many internet sites such as Flickr and SmugMug have plug-ins for accessing the iPhoto Library. If the site you want to use doesn’t then some, one or any of these will also work:
To upload to a site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. However, if you're using Gmail you can use iPhoto2GMail
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
*If you want to access the files with iPhoto not running*:
For users of 10.6 and later:
You can download a free Services component from MacOSXAutomation which will give you access to the iPhoto Library from your Services Menu. Using the Services Preference Pane you can even create a keyboard shortcut for it.
For Users of 10.4 and later:
Create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser
Other options include:
1. *Drag and Drop*: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
2. *File -> Export*: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
3. *Show File*: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.

Is this external drive a Time Machine backup?
Then find what you want using Time Machine (or whatever application you used to make the backup).
Your iPhoto pictures are in the iPhoto library in Users/Pictures.

Newer versions have similarity recognition software but in PSE6 you have to do it manually.

  • How can I easily access my photos from outside iPhoto?

My wife recently got a Mac for the first time and imported all of her photos into iPhoto. Today she was trying to upload some photos to a community website. The website had a Browse button that opened a Finder window. We were quite surprised to find that there was no easy way to access her photos. It seems like they are all in one big 100GB database file. We can "open" that file and in a Master subarea we can find the photos arranged by the date of import.
Is there a way to easily access photos, and find the ones we want? On Windows here photos were just kept in the file system with Albums correspondiong to directories and both Picasa and Windows Live Photo Gallery worked fine with this approach, and it was trivial to find a photo from the explorer.

Is there a way to easily access photos, and find the ones we want?
    Absolutely
Under the media heading in the lower left of the browse window click on Photos  ==> iPhoto and you events/albums/etc from iPhoto will be there - not sure how much easier it could be

  • How can I see my old photos from icloud?

I saved everything in icloud before I totally reset my phone. Is it still possible to see my photos from itunes?

I would not expect anything to download, since streaming only starts when you turn on photostream on the device and you just turned it on. Once you make first picture it will stream right away. Check out photostream FAQs.
iCloud: Photo Stream FAQ - Support - Apple
in order to get all pictures from old phone, you need to create old phone back up and restore new phone from that back up.

  • Can i see my iphoto library from my mac on my iphone via icloud

I have just upgraded my iCloud storage on my iPhone and selected my photos to be stored on the iCloud, it cleared the albums I had on my iPhone that I put there via iTunes sync, how do I now view these albums  now and also the photos on my mac can I view them  on my iphone
    Regards Neil

I have just upgraded my iCloud storage on my iPhone
I take it, you upgraded your iPhone to iOS 8 and enabled iCloud Photo Library (Beta)? (iCloud Photo Library beta FAQ)
That will stop all easy ways to get your photos from your Mac to the iPhone, because it disables My Photo Stream from the Mac to other devices, and it disables iTunes Photo Sync. You can no longer upload photos from iTunes.
What you can do, is use the iCloud web interface ( https://www.icloud.com/#photos ) to upload photos from your Mac or send them by Mail or Shared Photo Stream. You can also browse the photos in your iCloud Photo Library using the Photos.app on https://www.icloud.com/#photos. This will easier, when iCloud Photo Library beta will become available on the Mac with the Photos.app early next year.

  • IPad 3 Can't Sync All iPhoto Photos

    Here's the problem:
iPad2 has no photos on it, but can see all 14000 photos on my iMac iphoto library.  Every time I upload photos, it adds it and the count increases.  All is good.
iPad3 has no photos on it, but can only see about 2000 photos from my iMac iphoto library.  New photos uploaded seem to be lost in the shuffle.
iCloud is enabled on iMac Mt Lion.  iCloud is enabled on both iPads identically.
I've removed the icloud account and added it back.
I'm a bit confused.  Any suggestions out there?

Thanks for reporting the photo problem.  I am interested in such comments.  I too am getting frustrated with
the use of my new Ipad 3 but for a different reason.  I haven't even tried to sync photos yet. My frustration comes from receiving Yahoo Email with attachments and not being able to open the attachments.  I went into the
[mail, calendar,...] settings to setup the two different Emails that I use.  They are Gmail and Yahoo.  I have strong
Wi-Fi signal in my home.  I have a PC desktop for my main computer.  I receive all of my mail perfectly with no problems opening attachments.  I will be the first to admit that I am not up on Tech stuff and what makes it all work.  But it just seems like this Ipad doesn't make life easier, just more frustrating.
I am also thinking about taking my Ipad 3 back for a full refund.  Maybe in the future I will read about how problems like yours and mine are resolved with clear instructions on what to do.  Thanks again Johneo1 and others who have already reported their frustrations.  TLPutnam

  • HT1338 I have added photos from iPhoto into Photo Stream and enabled my iCloud but I can't see any uploaded photos. Does this sound right?

I have added photos from iPhoto into Photo Stream and enabled my iCloud but I can't see any uploaded photos. Does this sound right?

Enable PhotoStream in iCloud first, then add the photos to PhotoStream in iCloud. Of course, you will need PhotoStream also enabled on your other devices also in order to view them.

  • How can I export a RAW photo from iphoto to anywhere without it changing into a jpg?

How can I export a RAW photo from iphoto to anywhere (PSE, or desktop) without it changing into a jpg???

See if any of this info will help:
Using Photoshop (or Photoshop Elements) as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop.  When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.  3 - however, if you get the navigation window
that indicates that  PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file.  You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements 9 the Saving File preferences should be configured as shown:
I also suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.  In PSE’s General preference pane set the Color Picker to Apple as shown:
NOTE: If you want to use both iPhoto's editing mode and PS without having to go back and forth to the Preference pane, once you've selected PS as your editor of choice, reset the Preferences back to "Open in main window".  That will let you either edit in iPhoto (double click on the thumbnail) or in PS (Control-click on the thumbnail and seledt "Edit in external editor" in the Contextual menu).  This way you get the best of both worlds.

  • How can I move my iPhoto Library from one Mac to another without losing the comments on the individual photos in the process?

How can I move my iPhoto Library from one Mac to another without losing the comments on the individual photos in the process? The source Macbook (OS 10.4.11 and iPhoto 6.0.6 (3.2.2.)) is with my husband in Germany, the target MacBook Pro (OS 10.8.5, iPhoto 11) is with me in Japan. Thanks for your help.

I copied the iPhoto Library to a CD and from there to the new MacBook
If you copied the library to the CD via the Finder it would be no different than the methods Terence suggested.  If you used the Share ➙ Burn menu option from inside iDVD you'll get a mini library that has to be accessed from the open library and the events/alubums copied into the destination library.  Not the same as the other methods.
The Share ➙ Burn method is no longer supported with iPhoto 9 and later.

  • My ex can access my photos from his apple TV still, how can I stop this?

I logged in at his house ages ago using my apple id and it showed all my photos on his TV. Now we are no longer together, he informed me that he still has access and can see my text messages! I didnt even give him the password, so I have no idea how he can still see my phone photos and messages?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
It's possible he can see your photos, but not your messages since messages aren't on the Apple TV, unless you logged into your account from his mobile device.
Do you remember exactly how you logged into your account and viewed your pictures when you were there.

  • After iPhoto upgrade i can no longer access the photos stored on my external hard drive, after iPhoto upgrade i can no longer access the photos stored on my external hard drive

I was just about to order a photo book, using photos stored on an external hard drive. I organised the book and pressed 'buy'. IPhotos instructed me that I needed to upgrade and so I went on the ASpp store, bought the upgrade and installed as directed. I then used the iPhoto Library upgrader as directed.
After the iPhoto upgrade I can no longer access the photos stored on my external hard drive. I am able to access the photos stored on my internal hard drive - the remainder (including the photo album) seem to have vanished into thin air.
    Any suggestions please?

What format is the external drive?
