Can't see airport extreem in Airport utility

I have a airport extreem that has a green blinking light displaying and I am unable to see it in Airport Utility..

Try temporarily connecting your computer directly to one of the available LAN ports on the Extreme, and then, try accessing it with the AirPort Utility. Can you access it now?

I can not open Airport utility on my iMac after updating to maverick 10.9.4 . Error Message:[You can’t use this version of the application “AirPort Utility.app” with this version of OS X. You have "Airport Utility.app"5.4.2] It also will not allow me to install "airport Utility 6.3. Does anybody has a fix for this?

Re-run Software Update and see if there is a newer version of Airport Utility. I suspect your router or iMac may be too old to use Airport Utility 6.3 . As a work- around if Software Update does not work then try reading this article and see if the suggested solution help you.

  • Can't install Airport Utility 5.6 in OSX 10.7.5

I have a 2005 Airport Extreme that I manage using an iMac running Mac OSX 10.7.5. I recently tried to access my airport to check the IP address. Airport Utility could not access the Airport and told me that I needed to install Airport Utility 5.6 to access the Airport. I installed AU 5.6 and tried to access the Airport, but this time was told that this version of AU does not work with Mac OSX 10.7.5. So I downloaded AU 6.2. On this third attempt to access my Airport, I was told that this version of AU does not work with this Airport  and I need to install version 5.6. I'm stuck. Does anyone have any suggestions (other than buying a new Airport, that is).
    Thanks for the help,
    Paul

Make sure you download it from this URL
AirPort Utility 5.6 for Mac OS X Lion
It should install without any difficulty.
AU 5.6.1 is for the latest AirPort Base Stations for systems running Snow Leopard.
    NB from the following
AirPort Base Station: How to set up and configure an 802.11g AirPort Extreme Base Station or AirPort Express in OS X Lion
If you are using OS X Lion and wish to set up or configure an older 802.11g AirPort Extreme Base Station, or 802.11g AirPort Express, manually download and install AirPort Utility 5.6. AirPort Utility 5.6 can be used to configure earlier 802.11g AirPort Extreme Base Station, and AirPort Express; it can also be used for 802.11n AirPort base stations.
To obtain and use AirPort Utility 5.6:
    Go to http://support.apple.com/downloads/.
Search for AirPort Utility 5.6 and download it.
Allow AirPort Utility 5.6 to install.
Open AirPort Utility from the /Applications/Utilities folder.
Note: If you are configuring or setting up a newer AirPort Base Stations that support 802.11n, you should use AirPort Utility 1.0 for iOS or AirPort Utility 6.0 for OS X Lion, or later.
You can have both AirPort Utility 6.0 and 5.6 in the /Applications/Utilities folder.
AirPort Utility 5.6 will appear in the /Applications/Utility folder as "AirPort Utility 5.6"
AirPort Utility 6.0 will appear as "AirPort Utility"

  • Would using a Apple Time Capsules be easier to use as you can use the Airport Utility to set everything up? Would using encryption affect the speed / durability / life span of the drive in a computer or Time Capsule?

Would using a Apple Time Capsules be easier to use as you can use the Airport Utility to set everything up?
OR would there be better programs out there that would do more than Airport Utility on a non Apple drive?
Would using encryption affect the speed / durability / life span of the drive / Fusion drive in a computer or Time Capsule?

    1. Time Capsules are the easiest device to setup for Time Machine.
    2. Sorry this is unclear. There are a huge number of routers available that have far superior controls than apple routers.. some support Time Machine.. most don't. They negate your question 1. in being difficult to setup. And alot of 3rd party devices that claim Time Machine compatibility are unreliable.
    3. Encryption is irrelevant.

  • Utility Airport can't see Airport Express on my MacPro, although the same AE operates properly with a MacBook Pro

I've unsuccefully spend almost three days on the web to find the solution to a particular problem.
The configuration  I'm running is as follow:
    - one Airport Express attached to the Orange box to communicate through internet
    - one printer attached to the AE through USB
    Two Mac :
    - one MacBook Pro : it operates with no problem using the AE and the printer, internet is fine since I write this message with that Apple. The two machines may operate simultaneously under different or identical softwares.
    - one Macpro : two points:
         * the Airport utility does not see the Airport Express, but the AE logo is fully active on the computer and I can read information with Preferences/Network.
         * the Network diagnostic, launched from the MacPro, yields GREEN from Airport to FAI included steps ( green LED), but fails at the Internet step (red LED)
The computers are in the same bench, the AE being at 2 meter distance with no shield in between.
The Orange box is proved fine since all the internet communications are OK when I use the MacBook Pro . The phone is fine as well.
There are no other WiFi in the neighbourg.
The problem occured on Sunday evening for an unclear reason, while I was trying to connect a window XP based PC to link to the printer using the same wireless network ( I miserably fail as well, although the PC sees the Airport Express, but no way to connect to the printer : this is another issue )
The full network is running permanently for a couple of years with no issue, no fault, no reset, no slow down, just fine !
Both machines use the same OSX 10.6.8.
Information system returns the same data when reading the Airport network file.
Of course, the Airport Express yields solid Green light .
I've already checked the trouble shoot procedures as recommended by Apple with no success.
Well, this is a major issue since I do need my MacPro to handle work that must go through the internet.
Any advise and/or recommendation will be highly appreciated.
    Michael

    Hello,
Finally, I solve the issue by re loading the mDNSResponder which has been deactivated for an unknown reason. The system is back to normal operation.Thank so much to the Krypted.com site to provide the appropriate command to handle theplist file.

  • Can't see airport express in airport utility

Just purchased an airport express to add to my network for the purpose of steaming music wirelessly.  The network already has an airport Extreme as the base and four other expresses wired via CAT-5e in an distributed network that is working great. I had one other room that I wanted to stream music without running additional CAT 5e. I cannot get the express to show in airport utility so I can configure it.
    Computer: I-mac  OS X 10.8.4
airport extreme: bridge mode  with 4 expresses underneath in bridge mode
Do have a verizon router above the extreme (FIOS) but the wireless is turned off

Assuming that the AirPort Express is in range of a wireless signal, with the AirPort Express powered on, push and hold the reset button on the back of the device for 7-8 seconds and release.
Allow a full minute for the AirPort Express to restart
Close AirPort Utility if it is open
Click the AirPort icon at the top of the screen on your Mac and wait a few seconds for a listing of New AirPort Base Station to appear
Just below that, click on AirPort Express
AirPort Setup will open automatically and take a minute to analyze the network, then announce that the Express will be configured to extend the network.
Enter a device name that you want to use for the Express, and click Next
AirPort Setup will take another minute to configure things. When you see the message of Setup Complete, click Done.
    That's it.
If you want the Expess to "join" the wireless network and not provide any additional wireless coverage......
    Open AirPort Utility
Click on the AirPort Express, then click Edit
    Click the Wireless tab
Click the Network Mode selection box and choose Join a wireless network
If the setting does not appear, hold down the option key on your Mac while you click on the Network Mode selection box

  • Airport Utility can't see Airport Express!

Running Snow Leopard. Just installed latest version of Airport Utility. I use a D-Link Wireless router which my Airport has no problem connecting to. My wireless printer has no problems connecting to the network. I've disabled all security on the router just in case. The AE is three feet away from the laptop and one room away from the wireless router.
I've plugged the AE directly into into the DSL modem, directly into the router, and then directly into the laptop. Each time the AE turns green. However, never does the Airport Utility see the AE. Everything is grayed out so I can't configure anything. I've done a hard reset, rebooted the router and modem. Rebooted my MacBook Pro. I just want to stream my music because my current router set up works just fine. I've spent about 4 hours on this so far tonight and after reading pages of support postings still can't solve the problem. Any ideas?

Sadly yes. I've reset it twice but no luck. It's odd that it doesn't show up anywhere. Any reason that the Airport wouldn't recognize that the AE transmitting? If I plug it directly into the Macbook using a ethernet cable, it does see it then but no information, just recognizes there's something plugged into it

  • Airport Utility can't see Airport Express Device

I tried to print some documents and I received a message telling me the printer is not ready or may not exists, so I launch the Airport Utility to see what is going on and there is no Airport Express just my Time Capsule.
I already reset the airport express to factory settings and everything goes ok until the green light shows but the airport utility can't see it.
    Any help will be appreciate
    thanks
    Dan
I already tried connecting the Airport Express to my computer with an ethernet cable

Connect an Ethernet cable between the wall jack and the WAN (circle of dots) port on the AirPort Express. Connect a second cable between the LAN (opposing arrows) port on the Express to your computer.
You should now be able to access the Express using the AirPort Utility to configure the Express as a WAP.

  • Airport Utility on Server can't see Airport N Gigabit

First off, my setup: A server running 10.5.4 Server; a MacBook Pro running 10.5.4 client; an Airport Extreme Base Station-N/Gigabit.
The problem is that from my server neither Airport Utility or the RADIUS service can see or config my Airport, but from my MacBook Pro, Airport Utility can see it just fine whether wired to the same network as my server or when connected via Wi-Fi. The version of Airport Utility is the same on my server and MBP. All three –– the Airport, the server, and the MBP –– are connected via the built-in switch on my router, so there should be no reason why my MBP can see the Airport but my server can't. I've also tried pinging the Airport from my server and did so successfully, so I know there's a good network connection (besides the fact that no other service is having trouble talking to my server from either inside or outside my network).
    Thoughts?

Airport utility on my Mac (10.7.5) doesn't see AX although it is connected to the internet through it.
Apple uses the AX abbreviation for the AirPort Express. The AirPort Extreme is known as an AEBS.
If you have an AirPort Extreme, temporarily connect a spare Ethernet cable from your Mac to a LAN <-> port on the Airport router to see if AirPort Utility can "see" it that way.
If you happen to have an older "round" AEBS, AirPort Utility 6.2 cannot be used to configure this older version of the AirPort. Instead, you will need to use AirPort Utility 5.6 for Mac OS X Lion for that task.
My objective was to install an extern backup drive (to configure Time Machine through the wifi)
Apple does not officially support Time Machine backups to a drive at the USB port of the AirPort Extreme, so your results may not be to your liking if you try this. It does seem to work for some users....while other users (like me) have nothing but problems when they try this.
If you happen to have the older "round" version of the AirPort Extreme, the USB port on that version will only support the print function.

  • Airport Utility on Mac and iPad can't see Airport Extreme or AEs

Airport Utility on my Mac can't see my Extreme base station or two extending AEs. I thought this might be because I've yet to upgrade my Mac software, so tried using Airport Utility on my iPad--same story. The Mac lists the Airports but with yellow ! warnings; the iPad just keeps searching. Yet the Internet is OK (and shows up with a green light) and I can connect to everything on the network.
Possibly unrelated, but our two Macs have each gotten the "IP address assigned to another device" message. Click Ok and it goes away and everything works, no rebooting or lease renewing needed.
It's weird. Not critical, as everything works, but worrisome. Ideas?

I had the same problem. My AirPort utility in Windows would not detect the AirPort Extreme until I was already connected to the internet. I have two routers in my house. When I connected to my other router and was connected to the internet via that, then my AirPort Extreme showed up in my AirPort.

  • Can't see Airport Express from Airport Utility anymore

I unplugged my airport express when I went out of town for a week. Now that I'm back, I plug in the airport express and it just blinks amber. In Airport Utility I cannot see any networks. Other notes:
    - I'm running XP, using the Airport Express with Airtunes to run my stereo
    - when I 'View Wireless Networks' I see both the airport express and my neighbor's Apple base station (so it's odd that they don't show up in Airport Utility
    - I have tried resetting Airport Express several times, along with my wireless router, cable modem, and computer
    - I have checked to make sure software is up-to-date, and even re-installed the Airport Utility.
    - I recently purchased an iPhone, and before I left town it worked (with the Remote app and updated iTunes) with the stereo via the Airport Express
    - Both the computer and iPhone see my home network just fine, but Airport Utility sees nothing, despite rescanning
    - It is possible that either iTunes and/or Windows may have updated since this last worked a week ago.
    - I started debugging this three days ago with no progress (it is not intermittent)
    Any advice?

I still had phone support, and they showed me how to fix this.
The piece that I was missing is that after I reset the AX, I have to connect to it directly through the wireless connection (dropping to connection from my PC to my home wireless network). From this connection, I can see the AX in Airport Utility and change the settings.
One other piece of info, I was using a manual setup on the AX. This was necessary due to the 26 character WEP password (not using WPA2).

  • Internet works fine, but can't see Airport Base Station w/ Airport Utility

I'm running Windows XP Pro on a Dell Latitude laptop with linksys wireless-n PCMCIA card. I have a Cable Modem running to a Linksys router (cloning a MAC address), running to the Airport Extreme Base Station. Internet works fine (as I type this), but Airport Utility cannot see the Airport Base Station. This has happened repeatedly after hard reset and re-configuration of Airport Extreme Base Station.
Do I have a bad piece of hardware?

After doing a lot of research, this appears to be a pretty common problem for Windows users.
The only thing that has worked for me is to go into the Airport Utility, and under the file menu, click on configure other. Then enter the LAN IP address of your airport extreme. I think the default is 10.0.1.1, although I have a separate router between my cable modem and my airport express providing IP addresses, so mine was different. It didn't always work at first, but now almost every time my base station disappears, if I do this it can be found again.

  • Airport Utility can't see Airport Extreme

    (moved from another thread)
I get the "Airport Utility was unable to discover any Airport wireless devices" as I'm trying to manage an ancient Airport Extreme.
I took advice from this forum and restarted the base station and then plugged it into the mac directly with an ethernet cable. Still nothing. Any ideas?
Base Station is model M8440, trying to manage it with a Macbook Pro and OS 10.6.4. Thanks in advance...

    Did you try Google?

  • Airport Utility in Lion can't see Airport Express

Hi, I am using my 13 inch Macbook to set up a home wireless network. I have a base station downstairs and an Express I am trying to use upstairs to extend the network. I was setting up the network and everything went great. Then I went back in to change the name of the network and now the Airport Express is not visible in Airport Utility. I have no idea why. It was fine one second and gone the next. I have reset the Express several times and tried connecting it to my computer via an Ethernet cord but nothing it working. I just resently installed Lion but that was not a problem when I originally set everything up the first time so I don't think that is the issue. Suggestions?

Step 1.. get the proper utility.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1482
    AU v6.1 is useless.
Step 2.. Plug the TC directly into the computer by ethernet. You might need to press reset to get it to appear. Setup in bridge mode, which I presume is how the old one was setup.
Is the AEBS the main router in the network??
If not the TC should be plugged into the main router and put in bridge.

  • Airport Extreme card can't see Airport Snow...

As the title says...My brand new MacBook (1 day old) can see my belkin54g router network but there's no connection showing up in Internet Connect to my Airport (Snow). It can't see my Airport Express either...
Neither show up in Airport Admin Utility.
My existing iBook sees the Airport and Express fine...
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

The antenna IS plugged in properly and I have triple checked it. More info:
My system: PowerMac G5 Dual 2.0ghz w/2.5gb ram running most up to date OSX. Airport Extreeme Wireless Card, properly installed with antenna plugged in.
My Wireless Network: D-Link DL-614+ 802.11b wireless router. Comcast Digital cable.
Additional Info. My roommates computer, a P.O.S. 5yr+ old HP desktop with a "free" wireless card on it, can easily access our wireless network along with 5 other wireless networks in our area. So I know for sure that our network is setup properly and has an internet connection.
I read the other post and what made me go "hmm..." is this part:
"The AirPort Admin Utility is only for use with AirPort base stations."
So... What do I use to view non-AirPort base stations or as Apple calls it "Third Party Wireless Stations?????" I've clicked the airport icon at the top of the screen and selected "other.." and have tried manually adding the SSID and WEP password, but I always get the error message "AirPort had a problem connecting to the network MyNetworkSSID." or something to that effect. So if I'm not supposed to use the AirPort Admin Utility to view non-third party networks.. how do i get my computer to read my d-link network???
